• When RAID 10 is SLOWER than RAID 1, why?

    - by Paul
    We have a Dell 2950 with PERC and 14 external SAS 15K 73GB drives. An Oracle database job takes 3 hours to run with the drives set as hardware RAID 10 (striped across 7 mirrored pairs). The same job with the drives in RAID 1 takes only 1 hour. OS is Win 2008 R2 I think. Before we change the RAID level (with considerable downtime) on the production box, does anyone know why we're seeing this odd result, and if there's a better way to fix it?

  • Problem with two kernels installed and '@fedora' entries in 'yum list'?

    - by Paul
    FC11 beta upgraded to FC12. When I do yum list I see listing on the far right column as follows: 'fedora' 'installed' and '@fedora'. Previously I never had '@fedora' and only seemed to appear when I upgraded from FC11-FC12. Also when i look at the kernels installed I have kernel-PAE 2.6.30-0.97.rc.fc12 installed kernel-PAE 2.6.31.5-127.fc12 @fedora Why do I have two entries?

  • wget recursive limited within subdomain

    - by Paul Seangwongree
    I want to download the following subdomain with the recursive option using wget: www.example.com/A/B So if that URL has links to www.example.com/A/B/C and www.example.com/A/B/D, these two should also be downloaded. But I don't want anything outside the www.example.com/A/B subdomain to be downloaded. For example, if www.example.com/A/B/C has a link back to www.example.com, the page www.example.com should not be downloaded. What wget command should I use?

  • Windows Vista Context Menu>New... does not find entries

    - by Paul
    I was trying to remove a virus and foolishly did not backup registry keys I deleted because I (thought) I only deleted entries from the folders of programs I did not care about. However, I think I have done something wrong here: Now when I open a context menu (right click) in any location and hover over the "New..." option I don't get any options. It has a greyed out box saying "(Empty)". So far I have found out the the entries themselves are still there (using the locations provided here: Windows 7 - Add an item to 'new' context menu). I have also used a program recommended in that thread which also finds the entries intact and enabled. So it seems maybe I have deleted the entry which tells Vista where to look to find the files that can be created. How can I restore this so entries are shown again? I know system restore is an option but as I have said I did this when removing a (very stubborn) virus so that is the last resort.

  • Move email off Small Business Server to Google Apps, retain other SBS functions?

    - by Paul S.
    Recently, an in-house Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 was installed where I work. Unfortunately, our buildings have a bad electrical power supply and we suffer frequent outages. We have a large percentage of staff working off-site. Now when the power goes off here, everyone everywhere loses email functionality. I have been assigned to research the possibility of routing our email to Google Apps while maintaining LAN functions on the SBS. I haven't worked with Microsoft products for several years now, so do not know how SBS is structured. Can anyone here tell me if this is possible, or point me to good resources that explain our options?

  • strange Kernel Process Threads taking over my AIX box....

  • Is there a Linux mail server with an outgoing pickup directory?

    - by Paul D'Ambra
    On my Exchange server I can drop appropriately formatted text files in the "pickup" directory and Exchange will process them. I'd like to split this bulk mailing functionality onto another box to protect our business mail IP from the bumpy ride that our monthly newsletter gives us. I should note at this point that the mailing is opt-in with an opt out link included and only goes to people who pay to be a member of our organisation The ideal solution for me would be to add a linux box to use just for this purpose so we're not paying for Exchange licenses. So is there a linux equivalent of the Exchange pickup directory?

  • Can I change a user password in Linux from the command line with no interactivity?

    - by Paul Hoffman
    I have a specific use case where I would really like to be able to change a user's password with a single command with no interactivity. This is being done in a safe fashion (over SSH, and on a system with only one user able to be logged in), so it's fine to expose the new password (and even the old one, if necessary) on the command line. FWIW, it's a Ubuntu system. I just want to avoid having to add something Expect-like to this system for just this one task.

  • Windows 7 100% Memory Usage (without any process listed as using that much memory)

    - by Paul Tarjan
    When I plug my external USB 2TB hard drive into my windows 7 box, my RAM usage climbs up to all 4 Gigs (but in task manager it shows that all process are small) and the hard drive is churning like crazy. My CPU is only about 20% utilized All I can think of is there is a Virus scanner or an indexer running like crazy. I've tried to kill all virus scanners (AVG and Windows Security Essentials) and it still keeps going. My computer is completely unusable as everything is constantly swapping. I've tried leaving it on for 2 days now and it still hasn't finished whatever it was doing. Any ideas?

  • Treeview - Hierarchical Data Template - Binding does not update on source change?

    - by ClearsTheScreen
    Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. XAML - page: <controls:TreeView x:Name="SankeyTreeView" ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource expandedTreeViewItemStyle}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource SankeyTreeTemplate}"> <controls:TreeViewItem IsExpanded="True"> <controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="This is just for loading and will be replaced directly after the data becomes available..."/> </DataTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem> </controls:TreeView> XAML - ResourceDictionary <Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate x:Key="SankeyTreeTemplate" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <Grid Height="24"> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockName" Text="{Binding Path=Value.name, Mode=TwoWay}" VerticalAlignment="Center" Foreground="Black"/> <TextBox x:Name="TextBoxFlow" Text="{Binding Path=Value.flow, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{box\}}"/> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockThroughput" Text="{Binding Path=Value.throughput, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{block\}}"/> </Grid> </Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate> Now, as you can see, the TextBoxFlow and the TextBlockThroughput share the same space. What I aim at: The "Throughput" value of a node is how much of something 'flows' through this node from its children. It can't be changed directly, so I want to display a text block. Only leaf nodes have a TextBox to let someone enter the 'flow' that is generated in this leaf node. (I.E.: Node.Throughput = Node.Flow + Sum(Children.Throughput), where Node.Flow = 0 for each non-leaf.) What the BoxConverter (silly name -.-) does: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if ((value as NodeList<TreeItem>).Count > 1) // Node has Children? { if ((parameter as String) == "{box}") { return Visibility.Collapsed; } else ((parameter as String) == "{block}") { return Visibility.Visible; } } else { /* * As above, just with Collapsed and Visible switched */ } } The structure of the tree that is bound to the TreeView is essentially stolen from Dan Vanderboom (a bit too much to dump the whole code here), except that I here of course use an ObservableCollection for the children and the value items implement INotifyPropertyChanged. I would be very grateful if someone could explain to me, why inserting items into the underlying tree does not update the visibility for box and block. Thank you in advance!

  • ELMAH - Filtering 404 Errors

    - by Nathan Taylor
    I am attempting to configure ELMAH to filter 404 errors and I am running into difficulties with the XML-provided filter rules in my Web.config file. I followed the tutorial here and here and added an <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.IO.FileNotFoundException" /> declaration under my <test><or>... declaration, but that completely failed. When I tested it locally I stuck a breakpoint in protected void ErrorLog_Filtering() {} of the Global.asax found that the System.Web.HttpException that gets fired by ASP.NET for a 404 doesn't have a base type of System.IO.FileNotFound, but rather it is simply a System.Web.HttpException. Next I decided to try a <regex binding="BaseException.Message" pattern="The file '/[^']+' does not exist" /> in the hopes that any exception matching the pattern "The file '/foo.ext' does not exist" would get filtered, but that too having no effect. As a last resort I tried <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.Exception" />, and even that is entirely disregarded. I'm inclined to think there's a configuration error with ELMAH, but I fail to see any. Am I missing something blatantly obvious? Here's the relevant stuff from my web.config: <configuration> <configSections> <sectionGroup name="elmah">

</sectionGroup> </configSections> <elmah> <errorFilter> <test> <or> <equal binding="HttpStatusCode" value="404" type="Int32" /> <regex binding="BaseException.Message" pattern="The file '/[^']+' does not exist" /> </or> </test> </errorFilter> <errorLog type="Elmah.XmlFileErrorLog, Elmah" logPath="~/App_Data/logs/elmah" /> </elmah> <system.web> <httpModules> <add name="ErrorFilter" type="Elmah.ErrorFilterModule, Elmah"/> <add name="ErrorLog" type="Elmah.ErrorLogModule, Elmah"/> </httpModules> </system.web> <system.webServer> <modules> <add name="ErrorFilter" type="Elmah.ErrorFilterModule, Elmah"/> <add name="ErrorLog" type="Elmah.ErrorLogModule, Elmah" /> </modules> </system.webServer> </configuration>

  • How do you pass user credentials from WebClient to a WCF REST service?

    - by Alex
    I am trying to expose a WCT REST service and only users with valid username and password would be able to access it. The username and password are stored in a SQL database. Here is the service contract: public interface IDataService { [OperationContract] [WebGet(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] byte[] GetData(double startTime, double endTime); } Here is the WCF configuration: <bindings> <webHttpBinding> <binding name="SecureBinding"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Basic"/> </security> </binding> </webHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="DataServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <serviceCredentials> <userNameAuthentication userNamePasswordValidationMode="Custom" customUserNamePasswordValidatorType= "CustomValidator, WCFHost" /> </serviceCredentials> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="DataServiceBehavior" name="DataService"> <endpoint address="" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="SecureBinding" contract="IDataService" /> </service> </services> I am accessing the service via the WebClient class within a Silverlight application. However, I have not been able to figure out how to pass the user credentials to the service. I tried various values for client.Credentials but none of them seems to trigger the code in my custom validator. I am getting the following error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Here is some sample code I have tried: WebClient client = new WebClient(); client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("name", "password", "domain"); client.OpenReadCompleted += new OpenReadCompletedEventHandler(GetData); client.OpenReadAsync(new Uri(uriString)); If I set the security mode to None, the whole thing works. I also tried other clientCredentialType values and none of them worked. I also self-hosted the WCF service to eliminate the issues related to IIS trying to authenticate a user before the service gets a chance. Any comment on what the underlying issues may be would be much appreciated. Thanks. Update: Thanks to Mehmet's excellent suggestions. Here is the tracing configuration I had: <system.diagnostics> <sources> <listeners> <add name="xml" /> </listeners> <listeners> <add name="xml" /> </listeners> </sources> <sharedListeners> <add name="xml" type="System.Diagnostics.XmlWriterTraceListener" initializeData="c:\Traces.svclog" /> </sharedListeners> </system.diagnostics> But I did not see any message coming from my Silverlight client. As for https vs http, I used https as follows: string baseAddress = "https://localhost:6600/"; _webServiceHost = new WebServiceHost(typeof(DataServices), new Uri(baseAddress)); _webServiceHost.Open(); However, I did not configure any SSL certificate. Is this the problem?

If using a custom encoder, be sure that the IsContentTypeSupported method is implemented properly The php side of service is <?php // Pull in the NuSOAP code require_once('../../lib/tools/nusoap/nusoap.php'); $ns = "urn:currencywebservice"; // Create the server instance $server = new soap_server(); // Initialize WSDL support $server->configureWSDL('currencywebservice', $ns); $server->xml_encoding = "utf-8"; $server->soap_defencoding = "utf-8"; $server->wsdl->schemaTargetNamespace = $ns; $server->register('GetAllCurrencies', array(), array('return' => 'xsd:string'), $ns, $ns."#GetAllCurrencies", 'rpc', 'literal', 'Get all currencies available'); // Define the method as a PHP function function GetAllCurrencies() { return "test return"; } // Use the request to (try to) invoke the service header('Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf8'); $server->service($HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA); ?> Please help me out what is this problem?

  • [Android] Launching activity from widget

    - by Steve H
    Hi, I'm trying to do something which really ought to be quite easy, but it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to launch an activity when a home screen widget is pressed, such as a configuration activity for the widget. I think I've followed word for word the tutorial on the Android Developers website, and even a few unofficial tutorials as well, but I must be missing something important as it doesn't work. Here is the code: public class VolumeChangerWidget extends AppWidgetProvider { public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int[] appWidgetIds){ final int N = appWidgetIds.length; for (int i=0; i < N; i++) { int appWidgetId = appWidgetIds[i]; Log.d("Steve", "Running for appWidgetId " + appWidgetId); Toast.makeText(context, "Hello from onUpdate", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT); Log.d("Steve", "After the toast line"); Intent intent = new Intent(context, WidgetTest.class); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, intent, 0); RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.button, pendingIntent); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, views); } } } When adding the widget to the homescreen, Logcat shows the two debugging lines, though not the Toast. (Any ideas why not?) However, more vexing is that when I then click on the button with the PendingIntent associated with it, nothing happens at all. I know the "WidgetTest" activity can run because if I set up an Intent from within the main activity, it launches fine. In case it matters, here is the Android Manifest file: <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.steve" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0"> <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:name=".Volume_Change_Program" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
</intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name=".WidgetTest" android:label="@string/hello"> <intent_filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
</intent_filter> </activity> <receiver android:name=".VolumeChangerWidget" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.appwidget.action.APPWIDGET_UPDATE" /> </intent-filter> <meta-data android:name="android.appwidget.provider" android:resource="@xml/volume_changer_info" /> </receiver> </application> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" /> Is there a way to test where the fault is? I.e. is the fault that the button isn't linked properly to the PendingIntent, or that the PendingIntent or Intent isn't finding WidgetTest.class, etc? Thanks very much for your help! Steve

  • Silverlight 3.0 Custom Cursor in Chart

    - by Wonko the Sane
    Hello All, I'm probably overlooking something that will be obvious when I see the solution, but for now... I am attempting to use a custom cursor inside the chart area of a Toolkit chart. I have created a ControlTemplate for the chart, and a grid to contain the cursors. I show/hide the cursors, and attempt to move the containing Grid, using various Mouse events. The cursor is being displayed at the correct times, but I cannot get it to move to the correct position. Here is the ControlTemplate (the funky colors are just attempts to confirm what the different pieces of the template pertain to): <dataVisTK:Title Content="{TemplateBinding Title}" Style="{TemplateBinding TitleStyle}"/> <Grid Grid.Row="1"> <chartingPrimitivesTK:EdgePanel x:Name="ChartArea" Background="#EDAEAE" Style="{TemplateBinding ChartAreaStyle}" Grid.Column="0"> <Grid Canvas.ZIndex="-1" Background="#2008AE" Style="{TemplateBinding PlotAreaStyle}"> </Grid> <Border Canvas.ZIndex="1" BorderBrush="#FF250010" BorderThickness="3" /> <Grid x:Name="gridHandCursors" Canvas.ZIndex="5" Width="32" Height="32" Visibility="Collapsed">

</Grid> </chartingPrimitivesTK:EdgePanel> </Grid> </Grid> </Border> and here are the mouse events (in particular, the MouseMove): void TimelineChart_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { chartTimeline.UpdateLayout(); List<FrameworkElement> chartChildren = GetLogicalChildrenBreadthFirst(chartTimeline).ToList(); mChartArea = chartChildren.Where(element => element.Name.Equals("ChartArea")).FirstOrDefault() as Panel; if (mChartArea != null) { grabCursor = chartChildren.Where(element => element.Name.Equals("cursorGrab")).FirstOrDefault() as Image; grabbingCursor = chartChildren.Where(element => element.Name.Equals("cursorGrabbing")).FirstOrDefault() as Image; mGridHandCursors = chartChildren.Where(element => element.Name.Equals("gridHandCursors")).FirstOrDefault() as Grid; mChartArea.Cursor = Cursors.None; mChartArea.MouseMove += new MouseEventHandler(mChartArea_MouseMove); mChartArea.MouseLeftButtonDown += new MouseButtonEventHandler(mChartArea_MouseLeftButtonDown); mChartArea.MouseLeftButtonUp += new MouseButtonEventHandler(mChartArea_MouseLeftButtonUp); if (mGridHandCursors != null) { mChartArea.MouseEnter += (s, e2) => mGridHandCursors.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; mChartArea.MouseLeave += (s, e2) => mGridHandCursors.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } } } void mChartArea_MouseLeftButtonUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { if (grabCursor != null) grabCursor.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; if (grabbingCursor != null) grabbingCursor.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } void mChartArea_MouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { if (grabCursor != null) grabCursor.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; if (grabbingCursor != null) grabbingCursor.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } void mChartArea_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (mGridHandCursors != null) { Point pt = e.GetPosition(null); mGridHandCursors.SetValue(Canvas.LeftProperty, pt.X); mGridHandCursors.SetValue(Canvas.TopProperty, pt.Y); } } Any help past this roadblock would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, wTs

  • FusionCharts Sharepoint And dataUrl param.

    - by oivoodoo
    Hi, everyone. I have problem with fusioncharts evaluation in the ASP .NET(Sharepoint Portal). I am customizing survey list for providing new view. I added to scheme.xml the next code. <View BaseViewID="4" Type="HTML" WebPartZoneID="Main" DefaultView="TRUE" DisplayName="Charts" SetupPath="pages\viewpage.aspx" ImageUrl="/_layouts/images/survey.png" Url="overview.aspx" FreeForm="TRUE" ReadOnly="TRUE">  <Toolbar Type="Standard" /> <ViewFields> </ViewFields> <ViewEmpty> <SetVar Name="HandlerUrl">/_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx</SetVar>
      <param name="FlashVars" value="&chartWidth=350&chartHeight=350&debugMode=1&dataURL=
<GetVar Name="HandlerUrl" />
"/>

   <embed src="/_layouts/IEFS/FusionCharts/MSCombi3D.swf" FlashVars="&chartWidth=350&chartHeight=350&debugMode=1&dataURL=
<GetVar Name="HandlerUrl" />
" quality="high" width="350" height="350" name="ChartName" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
</ViewEmpty> As you can see I've just create standard object tag of fusioncharts control(I got it from examples). But when page is rendered I can see the next following error: And I have error: INFO: XML Data provided using dataURL method. dataURL provided: ./_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx dataURL invoked: ./_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx?FCTime=223 ERROR: An error occurred while loading data. Please check your dataURL, by clicking on the "dataURL invoked" link above, to see if it's returing valid XML data. Common causes for error are: No URL Encoding provided for querystrings in dataURL. If your dataURL contains querystrings as parameters, you'll need to URL Encode the same. e.g., Data.asp?id=101&subId=242 should be Data%2Easp%3Fid%3D101%26subId%3D242 Different sub-domain of chart .swf and dataURL. Both need to be same owing to sandbox security. Network error My data-page(handler) is rendered valid xml data. I read this link http://www.fusioncharts.com/docs?/Debug/Basic.html, but it doesn't help me. Have ever you seen same error before? With The Best Regards, Alexander.
