• Integrating NetBeans for Raspberry Pi Java Development

  Raspberry Pi IDE Java Development The Raspberry Pi is an incredible device for building embedded Java applications but, despite being able to run an IDE on the Pi it really pushes things to the limit.  It's much better to use a PC or laptop to develop the code and then deploy and test on the Pi.  What I thought I'd do in this blog entry was to run through the steps necessary to set up NetBeans on a PC for Java code development, with automatic deployment to the Raspberry Pi as part of the build process. I will assume that your starting point is a Raspberry Pi with an SD card that has one of the latest Raspbian images on it.  This is good because this now includes the JDK 7 as part of the distro, so no need to download and install a separate JDK.  I will also assume that you have installed the JDK and NetBeans on your PC.  These can be downloaded here. There are numerous approaches you can take to this including mounting the file system from the Raspberry Pi remotely on your development machine.  I tried this and I found that NetBeans got rather upset if the file system disappeared either through network interruption or the Raspberry Pi being turned off.  The following method uses copying over SSH, which will fail more gracefully if the Pi is not responding. Step 1: Enable SSH on the Raspberry Pi To run the Java applications you create you will need to start Java on the Raspberry Pi with the appropriate class name, classpath and parameters.  For non-JavaFX applications you can either do this from the Raspberry Pi desktop or, if you do not have a monitor connected through a remote command line.  To execute the remote command line you need to enable SSH (a secure shell login over the network) and connect using an application like PuTTY. You can enable SSH when you first boot the Raspberry Pi, as the raspi-config program runs automatically.  You can also run it at any time afterwards by running the command: sudo raspi-config This will bring up a menu of options.  Select '8 Advanced Options' and on the next screen select 'A$ SSH'.  Select 'Enable' and the task is complete. Step 2: Configure Raspberry Pi Networking By default, the Raspbian distribution configures the ethernet connection to use DHCP rather than a static IP address.  You can continue to use DHCP if you want, but to avoid having to potentially change settings whenever you reboot the Pi using a static IP address is simpler. To configure this on the Pi you need to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file.  You will need to do this as root using the sudo command, so something like sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces.  In this file you will see this line: iface eth0 inet dhcp This needs to be changed to the following: iface eth0 inet static     address 10.0.0.2     gateway 10.0.0.254     netmask 255.255.255.0 You will need to change the values in red to an appropriate IP address and to match the address of your gateway. Step 3: Create a Public-Private Key Pair On Your Development Machine How you do this will depend on which Operating system you are using: Mac OSX or Linux Run the command: ssh-keygen -t rsa Press ENTER/RETURN to accept the default destination for saving the key.  We do not need a passphrase so simply press ENTER/RETURN for an empty one and once more to confirm. The key will be created in the file .ssh/id_rsa.pub in your home directory.  Display the contents of this file using the cat command: cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub Open a window, SSH to the Raspberry Pi and login.  Change directory to .ssh and edit the authorized_keys file (don't worry if the file does not exist).  Copy and paste the contents of the id_rsa.pub file to the authorized_keys file and save it. Windows Since Windows is not a UNIX derivative operating system it does not include the necessary key generating software by default.  To generate the key I used puttygen.exe which is available from the same site that provides the PuTTY application, here. Download this and run it on your Windows machine.  Follow the instructions to generate a key.  I remove the key comment, but you can leave that if you want. Click "Save private key", confirm that you don't want to use a passphrase and select a filename and location for the key. Copy the public key from the part of the window marked, "Public key for pasting into OpenSSH authorized_keys file".  Use PuTTY to connect to the Raspberry Pi and login.  Change directory to .ssh and edit the authorized_keys file (don't worry if this does not exist).  Paste the key information at the end of this file and save it. Logout and then start PuTTY again.  This time we need to create a saved session using the private key.  Type in the IP address of the Raspberry Pi in the "Hostname (or IP address)" field and expand "SSH" under the "Connection" category.  Select "Auth" (see the screen shot below). Click the "Browse" button under "Private key file for authentication" and select the file you saved from puttygen. Go back to the "Session" category and enter a short name in the saved sessions field, as shown below.  Click "Save" to save the session. Step 4: Test The Configuration You should now have the ability to use scp (Mac/Linux) or pscp.exe (Windows) to copy files from your development machine to the Raspberry Pi without needing to authenticate by typing in a password (so we can automate the process in NetBeans).  It's a good idea to test this using something like: scp /tmp/foo [email protected]:/tmp on Linux or Mac or pscp.exe foo pi@raspi:/tmp on Windows (Note that we use the saved configuration name instead of the IP address or hostname so the public key is picked up). pscp.exe is another tool available from the creators of PuTTY. Step 5: Configure the NetBeans Build Script Start NetBeans and create a new project (or open an existing one that you want to deploy automatically to the Raspberry Pi). Select the Files tab in the explorer window and expand your project.  You will see a build.xml file.  Double click this to edit it. This file will mostly be comments.  At the end (but within the </project> tag) add the XML for <target name="-post-jar">, shown below Here's the code again in case you want to use cut-and-paste: <target name="-post-jar">   <echo level="info" message="Copying dist directory to remote Pi"/>   <exec executable="scp" dir="${basedir}">     <arg line="-r"/>     <arg value="dist"/>     <arg value="[email protected]:NetBeans/CopyTest"/>   </exec>  </target> For Windows it will be slightly different: <target name="-post-jar">   <echo level="info" message="Copying dist directory to remote Pi"/>   <exec executable="C:\pi\putty\pscp.exe" dir="${basedir}">     <arg line="-r"/>     <arg value="dist"/>     <arg value="pi@raspi:NetBeans/CopyTest"/>   </exec> </target> You will also need to ensure that pscp.exe is in your PATH (or specify a fully qualified pathname). From now on when you clean and build the project the dist directory will automatically be copied to the Raspberry Pi ready for testing.

This is not the single problem happen to me.   In my case I use .net connector 6.7.4.0 and let’s see what happen to me after I start using it. 6.7.4.0 install register the mysql module in machine.config and it’s broke every software you haven’t deployed with Mysql.   Suppose for example I just create a website ( in webmatrix 3) put my index.cshtml and now see what it preview for me. This means I need to add the mysql.Web even I don’t use any kind of database. I need to do every asp.net mvc project no matter they use mysql. it’s problematic when we use older .net  mysql connector in some of my project.   If you have trouble like this simply use nuget and say Bye bye to this trouble.

• Bind the windows key to Lubuntu start menu

  I am running Lubuntu 11.10. By default the main menu is bound to Alt+F1 (A-F1) which works. Here is the relevant code from ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml <keybind key="A-F1"> <action name="Execute"> <command>lxpanelctl menu</command> </action> </keybind> This works. When I hit Alt+F1, I can see the start menu. If I change the keys to "Windows key + M" (W-m), I can pull up the start menu using Win+M <keybind key="W-m"> <action name="Execute"> <command>lxpanelctl menu</command> </action> </keybind> However, I cannot bind the start menu to the Windows key alone. If I try replacing "W-m" by "W", the "W" alphabet key gets bound to the start menu. If I try "W-" nothing happens, I have tried the "Super" option too but to no avail. How can I bind the Lubuntu main menu to the windows Key? I have been through some relevant lubuntu questions, like this one, which tries to do the opposite. How do I unbind Super key from menu in Lubuntu

• Rhythmbox 2.99.1 crashes when playing any song on Ubuntu 13.10

  Yesterday rhythmbox was running smoothly but today it crashes only a few seconds after I hit the play button, regardless of track. I've tried disabling plugins, re-installing rhythmbox via synaptics, clearing the library and the rhythmdb.xml-file and just adding one album. Still, it crashes. If I run the rhythmbox from the command line i get the following before I have to force quit: :~$ rhythmbox Failed to create secure directory (/run/user/1000/pulse): Permission denied Killed :~$ However, if i run rhythmbox via the command line as superuser it does work. Run sudo restart vsftpd (or sudo service vsftpd restart if you like) in a terminal. Try to connect with an FTP user client. You should see a message more or less like this: GnuTLS error -15: An unexpected TLS packet was received. This is an issue for me, as I do not want FTP-sessions to be able to list files outside the user's home folder. I have checked with several client-side apps, and I get the same results with every one of them. Filezilla is not so good regarding cipher methods nowadays, but as I am able to make an FTP(e)s-connection over TLS (as long as chroot'ing is disabled and ssl_ciphers is set to HIGH) I have a feeling ciphers are not the issue this time, and that I won't find the answer by tweaking configs on the client side. My vsftpd.log stays empty, even though debug_ssl and log_ftp_protocol are enabled, so no info there either.

• Seamless Mode Not Working Correctly in Virtual Box

  I run Ubuntu Desktop in a VirtualBox seamless mode, hosted on Windows 7. I recently upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 and seamless mode no longer works correctly. I have re-installed guest extensions. The problem is that the Ubuntu desktop wallpaper is shown, effectively blocking the Windows desktop. I can bring Windows apps to the foreground, but as soon as I bring any Ubuntu window to the foreground, all the windows apps will disappear, hidden by the ubuntu desktop even if I activated an Ubuntu window in a different monitor. So, it is not very much different from full-screen mode at this time. I suspect if I could turn off the Ubuntu desktop or wallpaper this would be a sufficient workaround (this is basically what Seamless mode is) but that does not seem to be possible within Ubuntu itself. [Jeremy doesn't specify system config, but I can confirm I'm seeing this behavior in Win 7 64-bit with both 32-bit and 64-bit guests. Giovanni sees the same thing on his laptop running Vista Ultimate 64 bit after upgrading his 32-bit guest to 12.04 (forums.virtualbox.org p225407, requires logging in with your free Oracle account). I was using vbox 4.1.14r77440 and matching Guest Additions. I upgraded to 4.1.16-78094 vbox+additions. Still a problem. And I filed launchpad bug 999929 to see if I can get feedback from developers. – tbc0] Any other ideas?

As we all know unlike windows form web forms are state less so when user interacts with web application we need to maintain state amongst web pages and we are using session for maintaining state between web pages for each users. ASP.NET is also provide same kind of session state functionalities. ASP.Net Session state identify request coming for same user and same browser for specific session time out interval and its preserves values in session for that specific time intervals and that’s help us in maintaining state amongst web pages for a specific user. ASP.NET Session state allows us to store session in three way 1. IncProc 2. Session State Service 3. SQL Server. In SQL Server mode it will store session in SQL Server tables instead of storing it in Server Memory. ASP.NET 4.0 provides a new property called Compression Enabled that means when we store values in serialized form in SQL Server with GZip Compression and that results in better performance.   I have a developer environment setup with WAMP, Wordpress, and PHPEdit IDE. I use the Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube API's in a sidebar. I'm using Facebook's PHP SDK to display information(no login or admin functions). • Apache VERY high page load time

  My Drupal 6 site has been running smoothly for years but recently has experienced intermittent periods of extreme slowness (10-60 sec page loads). Several hours of slowness followed by hours of normal (4-6 sec) page loads. The page always loads with no error, just sometimes takes forever. My setup: Windows Server 2003 Apache/2.2.15 (Win32) Jrun/4.0 PHP 5 MySql 5.1 Drupal 6 Cold fusion 9 Vmware virtual environment DMZ behind a corporate firewall Traffic: 1-3 hits/sec avg Troubleshooting No applicable errors in apache error log No errors in drupal event log Drupal devel module shows 242 queries in 366.23 milliseconds,page execution time 2069.62 ms. (So it looks like queries and php scripts are not the problem) NO unusually high CPU, memory, or disk IO Cold fusion apps, and other static pages outside of drupal also load slow webpagetest.org test shows very high time-to-first-byte The problem seems to be with Apache responding to requests, but previously I've only seen this behavior under 100% cpu load. Judging solely by resource monitoring, it looks as though very little is going on. Here is the kicker - roughly half of the site's access comes from our LAN, but if I disable the firewall rule and block access from outside of our network, internal (LAN) access (1000+ devices) is speedy. But as soon as outside access is restored the site is crippled. Apache config? Crawlers/bots? Attackers? I'm at the end of my rope, where should I be looking to determine where the problem lies?

• iOS: Using Jenkins for nightly internal builds (TestFlight), plus frequent client builds

  I'm an iOS dev, working for a small agency. I'm currently on a few smaller projects where I'm the only developer. We recently acquired a Jenkins server, but each project is left to fend for themselves as for how to use it. I'd like to use it for making and distributing builds. My ideal would be: Every commit is built as a single IPA that is placed in a HTTP-accessible location. (It only needs to keep the latest one, otherwise the disk would fill up — some of our apps are 500MB or more.) Once a day it makes a build, signs it with our internal provisioning profile, tacks a build number onto the end of the version number, and sends it to our internal TestFlight team. When manually prompted, it builds the latest commit, gives it a manually specified version number, signs it with the client's provisioning profile and sends it to TestFlight. I'm pretty new to Jenkins. The developer who set up the server is running it on one of our projects, so I know it has the right stuff installed to do Xcode builds. I believe he's only using it to run unit tests though, not to do any of the code signing, IPA creation or TestFlight stuff. So my questions: I've listed three distinct kinds of build. How does Jenkins cope with that? I see there's a "build triggers" section in the config for a Jenkins project, but it doesn't seem to mention different types of build. Should I just set up multiple Jenkins projects, called "App X (continuous)", "App X (nightly)" and "App X (client)"? How do I specify the provisioning profile through Jenkins? If there isn't a way, I guess I could make different configurations in the Xcode project… Has anyone else used Jenkins to actually do the release (i.e. build and push to TestFlight) of beta builds of their apps? Is it a good idea? Or should I continue just doing it manually?

• Raleigh theme on LightDM, Ubuntu desktop, Nautilus window, menus & menu-bars

  After performing an upgrade from Natty to Oneiric, I had a problem similar to the one reported in here at every system boot: Desktop forgets theme? Everything, from the LigthDM greeter to the ubuntu desktop used the ugly raleigh theme, apart from firefox, thunderbird few other applications after logging in. Unfortunately none of the solutions suggested in the topic above worked for me. The only way I could get acceptable appearance would be to switch to gnome at login and using the Adwaita theme. The lightdm greeter still uses the raleigh theme though. Unfortunately, I tried some "brute-force" methods by reinstalling (sudo apt-get install --reinstall) ubuntu-desktop, unity, unity-common, unity-greeter, gnome-session, gtk2-engines. I also tried moving .config, .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome, .gnome2 to a backup dir to reset account desktop preferences. None of the above solved the issue. On the contrary, logging-in to Ubuntu setup does not show unity and window decorations anymore. My fallback remains the Gnome logon and the Adwaita theme. This is my workstation machine I am hosting Ubuntu on, so, though possible, it is time consuming to perform a backup and format-reinstall ubuntu 11.10. Could you please let me know if I can get an alternative way of repairing my ubuntu desktop? (I believe it all started when, during the 11.04-to-11.10 upgrade, the installation of downloaded packages for oneiric broke when nautilus-dropbox failed to access the dropbox servers - I am behind a proxy but with proper proxy settings had no problems using apt-get & synaptic. However I removed dropbox and resumed partial installation on second boot.)

• Can't adjust backlight on an Nvidia 335m GT

  I have a laptop mySN QMG6 / Chiligreen Mobilitas NW which is Quanta TW9 barebone with intel i3 and nvidia 335m GT onboard. On ubuntu distros 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 and 11.10 i had problem with changing screen backlight with nouveau and nvidia drivers. FN+F4/F5 buttons did not change my brightness. I tried to edit xorg.conf, adding Option “RegistryDwords” “EnableBrightnessControl=1? Also tried to add some lines to grub acpi_osi="Linux" acpi_backlight=vendor Neither worked for me. Today I installed Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 and... With nouveau driver my FN key works, and changes the brightness (is it a new 3.0.22 linux kernel, or patched nouveau driver, i don't know). This is a big step forward. But, when installing proprietary nvidia driver (295.33) FN button stops working and i can't change brightness. I also tried workaround with xorg and grub with no result. Tried to install acpi from apt - no result. Is there anything left to try? I really need that nvidia driver working with FN keys, as i would like to have a working 3D acceleration. P.S. Does the nouveau driver has 3d acceleration like nvidia drivers??? If there is need to provide some log data, please write what should i print, as i'm a bit new to Ubuntu. P.P.S. Same problems i had with other Linux distros (Mint, Fedora and others) P.P.P.S. Other FN buttons work with both drivers (Mute, VOL UP/DOWN, WiFi on/off, Bluetooth, Sleep, Start/Pause, Stop, Next/Prev song) Some new thoughts... CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_GENERIC=m could this be an issue?   I'm new to game physics and I am trying to adapt a simple 2D ball simulation for a 3D simulation with the Java3D library. I have this problem: Two things: 1) I noted down the values generated by the engine: X/Y are too high and minX/minY/maxY/maxX values are causing trouble. Sometimes the balls are drawing but not moving Sometimes they are going out of the panel Sometimes they're moving on little area Sometimes they just stick at one place... 2) I'm unable to select/define/set the default correct/suitable values considering the 3D graphics scaling/resolution while they are set with respect to 2D screen coordinates, that is my only problem. • JDBC Connection Pools in Glassfish

  I've been attempting to configure Glassfish 3.1.2.2 for ADF 11g and the need arose to create a jdbc connection pool to my Oracle XE 11g database. While this is really very trivial there were no samples of how to do this and documentation, while good, rarely ever provides concrete examples. After fumbling around for a few minutes searching for an example I gave up and figured it out on my own. Here are the steps for any of you that may be in need. This can be done either via the Glassfish command line tool asadmin or through the admin console. I'm doing this through the admin console. Start Glassfish and connect to the admin console with the credentials you defined at installation: http://localhost:4848 Navigate to Resources | JDBC | JDBC Connection Pools and select New. Be sure to enter Resource Type & Datasource Classname under General Settings tab. You can go with the defaults for Pool Settings etc... View Image Go to the Additional Properties tab and create username, password, and url properties with the respective values. View Image Navigate to Resources | JDBC | JDBC Resources and select New. Be sure to enter the JNDI Name and select the Pool Name for the jdbc connection pool you created previously. View Image Navigate to Configurations | server-config | JVM Settings and select the JVM Options tab. Add the values highlighted: -Doracle.jdbc.J2EE13Compliant=true is used to make sure the driver behaves in a JEE-compliant manner. View Image To integrate the JDBC driver into a GlassFish Server domain, copy the JAR files into the domain-dir/lib directory, then restart the server. The JAR file for the Oracle 11 database driver is ojdbc6dms.jar. An upcoming entry will demonstrate configuring Glassfish for Oracle ADF Applications.
