• Add an entry for Ubuntu on Windows 8 boot loader

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 by creating free space in Windows 8 and then using that space to create 3 partitions, one for SWAP, one for GRUB (mounting point is /boot) and one for the actual OS. I did this so the Windows 8 boot loader wouldn't be overwritten in case I ever wanted to remove Ubuntu. I can still boot into Ubuntu if I select the boot loader from the BIOS. I want to add Ubuntu to the Windows 8 boot loader and I've been told to use EasyBCD. The issue with that is it doesn't actually direct Windows to the GRUB file, but rather to something like autogrub0.mri. I have found another programme called Visual BCD which will allow me to actually set the bootloader paths and drives. From here, I don't quite know what to do. I believe I have it set to the correct drive but I don't know if I'm directing to the right file. I think it's /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/grub.efi. I don't know if that's the right file, if I need to remove /boot or if the / need to be \ as that's what Windows uses. Sorry for such a lengthy post, please help!

  I am new using xgettext command So I don't know what am I doing wrong. I put the command xgettext -n *.php -o --output='/home/public/sample' in my script but I get an error: xgettext: cannot create output file "--output=/home/public/sample": No such file or directory But when I run xgettext -n *.php - messages.po file gets created in my current directory! Is there a way to specify the location where to create messages.po file?

  As we all know Google treat sub-domain as completely separate domain so we have to fight for both, to get ranked in search results. Right! So one of my client website was like they having "example.com" and "Blog.example.com".   I have Ubuntu 12.04 working fine, but need W7 occasionally. I just wanted to check that my plan for installing would work? Any help appreciated. • Remote Access to Owncloud Server

  I'm currently trying to setup my own own-cloud server, and I've got it fully installed, configured, and accessible from within my own local network. I cannot figure out how to access it from the outside. So far I've: Successfully setup port-forwarding on my local router. I've done so via 'single port forwarding' and 'port range forwarding' Ports 80, 443, 3306 (Apache-Full and MySQL) Successfully obtained my external IP address. I've also tested this magic number from within the network at #insertIPhere/owncloud and it did work. Successfully setup the server using SQLite Successfully setup the server using MySQL Created the following exceptions in my firewall: Allow In Port 80 (Apache Full) Allow In Port 443 (Apache Full) Allow In Port 3306 (MySQL) Tried connecting from several different remote networks, as to troubleshoot something on their end As far as trying to access it, I'm doing so through Google-Chrome and Mozilla Firefox trying to reach the server through #insertIPhere/owncloud using the above public IP address. So what have I missed, and how do I access my server from outside? Thanks in advance for your help and time, and I apologize in advance for what will probably result in my noobish mistake in networking. I've looked at the official documentation. • Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

  I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

• Screenflick Audio option in MacBook Pro

  When after I shut down my MacBook Pro by holding the power button for a few sec, (which I found is bad for the computer, so I will not do anymore) I found that my speaker doesn't play until I plug in and out earphone into the machine. When my speaker is not working like this, and when I am on a random webcam chatting site like chatroulette.com, they can hear the music playing on my iTunes when I choose Screenflick Audio option in the Mic setting. But when the Speaker is working back again, they don't hear the music playing even when I do Screenflick Audio mode. How can I make it work? Also, how do you make the chatting partner hear my music playing on my computer while I talk to them (not via my speaker, since it's bad quality).

• How do I make Ubuntu go past the splash screen?

  I recently upgraded my desktop mac to Precise and now can't get past the Ubuntu 12.04 splash page. The splash freezes with ubntu and the dots turning from white to orange forever. This is when I choose 3.2.0-generic from the grub menu. If I choose to load up older kernels, I still get the same thing. How can I make my computer finish booting again? I'm able to ssh into the machine and poke around, but the actual screen freezes at the splash. dmesg cat kern.log

• Share buttons vs sharer urls

  As some people might know, adding share buttons from Facebook and Twitter can cause a page to slow down. I've seen many sites pass on the common iframe implementations that these sites offer and simply create icons that link to a sharer url for better control of page performance. http://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F&t=CNN%26s+website%27 However, I've also read that Facebook is dropping support for these links. For example, this link now redirects to the Like Button. http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/share.php Here is an article noting that Facebook is deprecating/has deprecated it's share functionality and is sticking with the Like button. http://www.barbariangroup.com/posts/7544-the_facebook_share_button_has_been_deprecated_called_it I'm assuming this is the same for the sharing url. If the sharer url is no longer a reliable option, what other methods are there besides using 3rd party widgets (like Addthis)?

• Directing Multiple ccTLD's to 1 gTLD with a country specific subdirectory?

  We have multiple ccTLDomains and are thinking about how to best combine these into one. We want to do this to focus our link building efforts. We are running a website through which we offer a software-as-a-service. Therefore we could potentially sell to any country in the world. However, Germany is our most important market. We currently have a .com, .de, .nl. and .pl domain. All these domains have a high amount of unique content pages. What we are planning is to change everything to .com with language-based subdirectories, so .com/en/, .com/de/, etc. I have two questions concerning this issue: 1) How much of an advantage does a ccTLD have over a gTLD with country specific subdirectories in search rankings? So let’s say .de versus .com/de/? 2) How could we best redirect the visitors of our old ccTLD’s to our gTLD’s subdirectories? We would like to loose as few search engine rankings as possible. I tried with squid(squid.conf): acl Badsites dstdomain .yahoo.com http_acces deny Badsites and i wrote in elinks.conf: set.protocol.http.proxy.host = "proxy.host:3128" set.protocol.http.proxy.user = "" set.protocol.http.proxy.passwd = "" and it dosent work. it tells me Host not found on every site i whant to enter. DO you have any idee why it works that way and can you tell me a solution?

  I read this question, but I'm more confused yet. In developer.ubuntu.com/showdown I read: "(2) run out of /opt" (I understand "run out" is not in /opt :O Am I wrong?) In https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AppReviewBoard/Review/Guidelines#Packaging I read: "our package should install most files in /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/" It's not clear for me if the app must be in the /opt or out /opt :$ Then, can I use the /usr?
