The people who would actually do the customizations are analysts. I.e. non-programmers who are technically skilled (usually have a degree in sciences). What are the criteria to evaluate business rules engines? Are there open source and comercial ones? What are your experiences in ease of use, documentation, support, price, etc. Our app is in Java.

  I'm trying to simply test my RESTful API with cURL. Using the following invocation: curl -d "name=jimmy" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" http://127.0.0.1:3000/people.xml -i Rails is dying though: ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken (ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken): :8:in `synchronize' Looks like it's running this through a protect_from_forgery filter. I thought protect_from_forgery is excluded for non-HTML HTTP POST/PUT/DELETE type requests? This is clearly targeting the XML format. If I pass actual XML content, it works. But my users will be submitting POST data as URL encoded parameters. I know all the various ways I can disable protect_from_forgery but what's the proper way of handling this? I want to leave it on so that when I do have HTML based forms and handle format.html, I don't forget to re-enable it for then. I want users to be able to make HTTP POST requests to my XML-based API though and not get bombarded with this.

After signing, the message and the signature are transmitted via a webservice (.net) to the server. Everything is fine until this point. on the server, the XML shall be included in another XML-document, which is publicly accessible. The signature should be published as well in order to grant non-repudiation. Q: Is there a smooth option to convert the detached Pkcs#7 into XML-DSIG (e.g. functionality within the .net framework)? • How to style content in jQuery Facebox

  I'm using jQuery Facebox plugin to create some modal windows. One situation is to display errors that might occur. If JS is disabled, I do this by displaying any errors in a normal div that is styled by CSS using a class selector. If the user does have JS enabled however, that div is hidden and the info is displayed in a facebox. The problem I have is that all the CSS styling is lost when the data is displayed within a facebox window. I understand that you can attach extra classes if you're calling facebox from a rel attribute in an anchor tag, but I'm using it programatically. Is there a way I can bind something to the facebox method? • Properly handling unicode characters in Rails

  By default Rails allows users of our application to input non-utf8 data, such as: ¶®«¼ However when we attempt to retrieve the data from our database and render it in a template Rails incorrectly assumes that it is in UTF-8 format and throws an error. ArgumentError: invalid byte sequence in UTF-8 What is the best way to handle this? I have seen one fix that suggested sanitizing the data in every place the user can input it. However, that would involve changing a considerable amount of code and it would strip out the characters entirely. Ideally we would want some characters converted to their UTF-8 equivalents. Our environment: Ruby: 1.9.1 Rails 2.3.5 MySql Gem: 2.8.1 This is a serious and urgent problem for us so your answers are very appreciated!

• Wordpress auto-generated "canonical" links - how to add a custom URL parameter?

  Hello - Does anyone know how to modify the Wordpress canonical links to add a custom URL parameter? I have a Wordpress site with a page that queries a separate (non-Wordpress) database. I passed the URL parameter "pubID" to display individual books and it is working OK. Example: http://www.uglyducklingpresse.org/catalog/browse/item/?pubID=63 But the individual book pages are not showing up properly in Google - the ?pubID parameter is stripped out. I think maybe this is because all the item pages have the same auto-generated "canonical" URL link tag in the source - one with the "pubID" parameter stripped out. Example: link rel='canonical' href='http://www.uglyducklingpresse.org/catalog/browse/item/' Is there a way to perhaps edit .htaccess to add a custom URL parameter to Wordpress, so that the parameter is not stripped out by permalinks and the "canonical" links? Or maybe there's another solution ... Thank you for any ideas!

• WCF - Compact Framework - Pull data from mobile client

  Hello guys, I want to communicate xml serialized objects from the server to the client and the other way arround. Now it is (probably) easy to invoke methods from a mobile client (compact framework) using WCF, but is there a way so that the server can invoke methods on the client side or some other way to pull data from the client? I know that callback contracts are not available in the compact framework as you can see here: http://blogs.msdn.com/andrewarnottms/archive/2007/09/13/calling-wcf-services-from-netcf-3-5-using-compact-wcf-and-netcfsvcutil-exe.aspx Originally I thought of socket programming and of developing this by myself, then someone here mentioned WCF. But it seems like WCF only would work in a non mobile environment as I need callbacks. Anyone can help me with this? Is it possible to develop a two way communication with a desktop server and multiple mobile clients using WCF, or will I have to do socket programming? Thanks for any advice or any kind of help!

• Why does Java read its default settings from the system

  Java is reading the locale, timezone and encoding information (and perhaps more) from the system it is installed on. This often brings bad surprises (brought me one just yesterday). Say your development and production servers are set to have TimeZone GMT+2. Then you deploy on a production server set to GMT. a 2-hour shift may not be easy to observe immediately. And although you can pass a TimeZone to your calendars, APIs might be instantiating calendars (or dates) using the default timezone. Now, I know one should be careful with these settings, but are easy to miss, hence make programs more error-prone. So, why doesn't Java have its own defaults - UTF-8, GMT, en_US (yes, I'm on non-en_US locale, but having it as default is fine). Applications could read the system settings via some API, if needed. Thus programs would be more predictable. So, what is the reason behind this decision?

• Viewing HTML inside Applet without using JEditorPane

  Hello, I have a small (500kb) swing applet that displays very simple/limited set of small HTML page(s) inside it with JEditorPane, however this does not seem to work 100% fluently, some customers get a blank page displayed without any java exceptions. The page works OK from my machine. I need a more reliable way to show HTML page to all our users. I've sent a list of appropriate DNN modules to our client but it may take them forever to get back to me. • Why can't I log in with "claimid.com" as an OpenID?

  Hi, I need to implement a relying party for Open ID in a load balanced environment. Following the suggestions found here I have tried passing null to the OpenIdRelyingParty constructor. The results are somehow not consistent. If I use www.myopenid.com as a provider it works. If I use www.claimid.com as a provider I get the following exception: ProtocolException - No OpenID endpoint found. This exception is thrown on the CreateRequest method call even in a non balanced environment (my local workstation). Any idea what can I do to make it work for both providers ?

  Hi everyone, i'm trying to realize non-editable QTableView with widgets in cells that should contain clickable listed text. With following code i'm setting widget in definite cell: view = QTableView() label = QLabel( <some html text> ) ... view.setIndexWidget(index, label) I used html to make label's text clickable, but links became blue with underline and moreover by clicking on it with right mouse button appears popup menu with "Copy Link Locaion" option, where i wanted to place some hidden information instead of url and of course do not let user see this info. I'm looking for light-weight widget, i thought that insertion of QGraphicsView in each cell will lead to big computer loads, but can't think of any other solution.   Hello, looking for some help with images referenced within the stylesheet. I have no problems with these from non secure locations within the site but only from https. The stylesheet loads fine and displays everything correctly except for the images. example: body { margin: 0; padding: 0; background: url(/img/background_tile.gif) top left repeat-x; text-align: center; background-color: #fff; } All my css files and other image paths inside the code use relative urls to images. How can I make sure they all work fine without hard coding my image paths with https or http? I want the code to work fine with http and https. Thanks

On XP this works fine without being admin. On this link MS states that 'Windows 7: Low-integrity users have read-only permissions for local WMI operations.'. I guess this is the problem. But I can't find any clue on how to change this.

• ODBC datasource for DB2 on 64 bit Windows 2008

  First of all, sorry for this non-programming question. I just finished development of some code that communicates with DB2 and want to test/deploy it on a Windows 2008 machine. I'm a bit concerned about not being able to find a working ODBC datasource (DSN/client) driver for DB2 on Windows 2008 (x64). I have a 32-bit driver for XP but that one (obviously) won't install on 2008-64. The IBM web site comes up with 1844 results when searching for "ODBC Windows 2008", but none of them are relevant. The web site's also a pain to use, btw. While googling around I found some solutions by 3rd party vendors but they all want money :) And the DB2 client and ODBC driver from IBM have always been free-of-charge. Does anyone have a solution?

• Problem serving video to iPad from Mongrel 1.1.5 , RoR 2.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.3 Server

  I am working off the Final Cut Server Integration sample provided by Apple that is a Rails app using 2.0.2 and runs on Mongrel 1.1.5. I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad?   I'm trying to process a list of files that may or may not be up to date and may or may not yet exist. In doing so, I need to resolve the full path of an item, even though the item may be specified with relative paths. However, Resolve-Path prints and error when used with a non-existant file. For example, What's the simplest, cleanest way to resolve ".\newdir\newfile.txt" to "C:\Current\Working\Directory\newdir\newfile.txt" in Powershell? Note that System.IO.Path's static method use with the process's working directory - which isn't the powershell current location.

• Why does [NSOutlineView clickedRow] always return -1?

  I have a fairly pedestrian non-editable NSOutlineView setup. In the bindings for the outline view, I have set the binding to my file's owner (MyDocument FWIW) with a selector of outlineViewWasDoubleClicked The method exists and is called, but when I call -clickedRow it consistently returns -1 rather than the row number of the row that I double clicked to trigger the method. My _outlineView is an IBOutlet and I've verified that it is hooked up correctly by using -selectedRow for the method rather than -clickedRow (I would rather use -clickedRow though because it seems unintuitive for the user to have a row selected, double click another row to do something with it and have the method triggered with the row they had selected.) My best guess right now is that the -clickedRow value is getting cleared out before my method fires, but I don't know where or what might be gobbling it up. Thanks in advance for any help.

• CentOS Client - Unable to Establish iSCSI connection with multiple interfaces on the initiator

  So after upgrading to CentOS 6.2, I am seemingly no longer able to login into my iSCSI targets. I have multiple interfaces on different subnets on the system, and I first thought that it had to do with the fact that I may not be binding correct interfaces, which seems to be the case when looking at netstat, as this is clearly wrong: [root]? netstat -na|grep .90 tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:42354 10.10.8.90:3260 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:40777 10.10.9.90:3260 SYN_SENT I then went ahead and disabled all but one interface, and so as a result netstat appears to be correct, but the issue with login remains. I am positive that the target never sees a packet, because I see nothing by SYN_SENT. I know the problem is on my client, because the target is servicing multiple systems, none of which are CentOS 6.2. At this point I am pretty confident that some things changed between CentOS 6.0/6.1 and 6.2. So, if anyone have any thoughts, or ran into this, I would very much like to hear your thoughts. I went a few weeks back and grabbed a snapshot of this system from before upgrading to 6.2. I spun up a new system from the snapshot, and reconfigured interface info and host keys, as well as iSCSI initiator and iscsi interface info to match new MACs. Changed nothing else. Then, I attempted to connect to my targets, and no issues at all. I cannot say that this was unexpected. I then went ahead and compared sysctl settings from both systems and there were differences after the upgrade, but nothing seemingly relevant to iSCSI or IP that could contribute to this. I also noticed that by default now two sessions per connection were enabled after the upgrade, but I changed it back to 1 session in /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf. On the problematic system we can see that source interface is seemingly wrong, but even when I disable the 10.10.100 interface, problems persist. So, while this may be relevant, I could not validate it for certain. Needless to say, further research is necessary. Something is clearly different between releases. It is quite obscure and I doubt this will happen to anyone else any time soon. It turns out that setting iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress in the interfaces configuration file is not legal. When one manually adds an iscsi target, such as below, all settings from the interface config file are copied into the node config file, that gets created by the below command. Result is parameters iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress together in the same config file. These parameters are seemingly mutually exclusive, which does not exactly make sense, or there is perhaps an oversight in the codepath. Perhaps I will investigate further. # iscsiadm -m node --op new -T iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:01:lab-centos-servers-00001 -p 10.10.8.90,3260,2 -I sw-iscsi-0 # iscsiadm -m node --op new -T iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:02:lab-centos-servers-00001 -p 10.10.9.90,3260,2 -I sw-iscsi-1 Notice, below I commented out iface.hwaddress and iface.ipaddress, after which I re-added targets, with same command as above.   I am trying to move project which was using MySQL database to the one that uses MSSQL 2008, But the select that was working in mysql is no longer working in MSSQL PreparedStatement statement = connection .prepareStatement("select u.user_firstname,u.user_lastname from user_details u, login l where l.username=? and l.login_user = u.user_id"); statement.setString(1, userName); ResultSet resultSet = (ResultSet) statement.executeQuery(); It always gives me empty resultset even when there are values corresponding to that username, When I run query using MSSQL management studio - query works properly i.e. it gives non-zero rows, Are there any MSSQL specific change I need to do ?

  Hello. I have this problem where i need to convert the following CFG to CFG in CNF. S- ABa A- aab B- Ac I know the steps are as follows. 1) Remove epsilon transitions - Done 2) remove unit productions 3) convert to CNF by: 3.1] introduce a new non terminal for each term 3.2] replace terminals in the productions rules with the new nonterminal 3.3] introduce new nonterminals to reduce the length of the right side of each production i'm a bit confused on how i would do that with the problem above. Mostly i am confused on step 2 and unit productions. If i could get some help or perhaps a link to a good tutorial that would be most helpful.

  I'm currently working on building a RESTful web api with ruby on rails. I haven't bothered putting a proper authentication scheme into the API yet as I'm ensuring that tests and the basic behavior of the API is working all locally first. Upon testing non-HTTP GET type requests such as HTTP POST/DELETE/PUT, stuff chokes because protect_from_forgery is on by default. How does this work when I'm working in practice since essentially the idea is in a RESTful API that there is no state. The client does not have a session or a cookie associated with the server. Each request is an atomic, self-executed request. The user will supply some credentials to ensure they are who they say they are, but other than that, does protect_from_forgery make sense at this point? Should it remain enabled?
