• Wordpress auto-generated "canonical" links - how to add a custom URL parameter?

  Hello - Does anyone know how to modify the Wordpress canonical links to add a custom URL parameter? I have a Wordpress site with a page that queries a separate (non-Wordpress) database. I passed the URL parameter "pubID" to display individual books and it is working OK. Example: http://www.uglyducklingpresse.org/catalog/browse/item/?pubID=63 But the individual book pages are not showing up properly in Google - the ?pubID parameter is stripped out. I think maybe this is because all the item pages have the same auto-generated "canonical" URL link tag in the source - one with the "pubID" parameter stripped out. Example: link rel='canonical' href='http://www.uglyducklingpresse.org/catalog/browse/item/' Is there a way to perhaps edit .htaccess to add a custom URL parameter to Wordpress, so that the parameter is not stripped out by permalinks and the "canonical" links? Or maybe there's another solution ... Thank you for any ideas!

• Playing flash (.flv) videos on the web in a way that portable devices can view them

  A friend of mine has created a movie for my site, it's in .flv format. I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. Is there a way to play a video in the flash format through a non-flash player so that the content can be viewed on all devices? I'm open to any ideas. Perhaps I may even need to convert the video to another format somehow. Thanks for any help, Evan

  Hi everyone, i'm trying to realize non-editable QTableView with widgets in cells that should contain clickable listed text. With following code i'm setting widget in definite cell: view = QTableView() label = QLabel( <some html text> ) ... view.setIndexWidget(index, label) I used html to make label's text clickable, but links became blue with underline and moreover by clicking on it with right mouse button appears popup menu with "Copy Link Locaion" option, where i wanted to place some hidden information instead of url and of course do not let user see this info. I'm looking for light-weight widget, i thought that insertion of QGraphicsView in each cell will lead to big computer loads, but can't think of any other solution. • Windows CE 5.0 emulator needed

  I need an emulator for Windows CE 5.0 to test an embedded device (not PDA or smartphone) application that I am developing. This is what I have already tried: Visual Studio 2008 Pro includes an emulator. Unfortunately, it does not include a Windows CE image (only Windows Mobile and Smartphone). Yes, there is a difference, see the screenshots here. Windows CE includes a "start button", windows that can be minimized, moved around etc. There is a Windows CE Device Emulator available from Microsoft. Apart from the fact that its license only permits non-commercial use, it does not run in Windows 7 (it requires .net Framework 1.1, which is incompatible with Windows 7) nor in Windows XP mode (error message: "Emulator for Windows CE will not run one virtual machine within another. Please run the virtual machine on the host operating system"). Is there any option that I have missed?

• How to style content in jQuery Facebox

  I'm using jQuery Facebox plugin to create some modal windows. One situation is to display errors that might occur. If JS is disabled, I do this by displaying any errors in a normal div that is styled by CSS using a class selector. If the user does have JS enabled however, that div is hidden and the info is displayed in a facebox. The problem I have is that all the CSS styling is lost when the data is displayed within a facebox window. I understand that you can attach extra classes if you're calling facebox from a rel attribute in an anchor tag, but I'm using it programatically. Is there a way I can bind something to the facebox method? S- ABa A- aab B- Ac I know the steps are as follows. 1) Remove epsilon transitions - Done 2) remove unit productions 3) convert to CNF by: 3.1] introduce a new non terminal for each term 3.2] replace terminals in the productions rules with the new nonterminal 3.3] introduce new nonterminals to reduce the length of the right side of each production i'm a bit confused on how i would do that with the problem above. Mostly i am confused on step 2 and unit productions. If i could get some help or perhaps a link to a good tutorial that would be most helpful.

  Hello, looking for some help with images referenced within the stylesheet. I have no problems with these from non secure locations within the site but only from https. The stylesheet loads fine and displays everything correctly except for the images. example: body { margin: 0; padding: 0; background: url(/img/background_tile.gif) top left repeat-x; text-align: center; background-color: #fff; } All my css files and other image paths inside the code use relative urls to images. How can I make sure they all work fine without hard coding my image paths with https or http? I want the code to work fine with http and https. Thanks

  Hello, I have a small (500kb) swing applet that displays very simple/limited set of small HTML page(s) inside it with JEditorPane, however this does not seem to work 100% fluently, some customers get a blank page displayed without any java exceptions. The page works OK from my machine. I need a more reliable way to show HTML page to all our users. • Properly handling unicode characters in Rails

  By default Rails allows users of our application to input non-utf8 data, such as: ¶®«¼ However when we attempt to retrieve the data from our database and render it in a template Rails incorrectly assumes that it is in UTF-8 format and throws an error. ArgumentError: invalid byte sequence in UTF-8 What is the best way to handle this? I have seen one fix that suggested sanitizing the data in every place the user can input it. However, that would involve changing a considerable amount of code and it would strip out the characters entirely. Ideally we would want some characters converted to their UTF-8 equivalents. Our environment: Ruby: 1.9.1 Rails 2.3.5 MySql Gem: 2.8.1 This is a serious and urgent problem for us so your answers are very appreciated!

• Why does Java read its default settings from the system

  Java is reading the locale, timezone and encoding information (and perhaps more) from the system it is installed on. This often brings bad surprises (brought me one just yesterday). Say your development and production servers are set to have TimeZone GMT+2. Then you deploy on a production server set to GMT. a 2-hour shift may not be easy to observe immediately. And although you can pass a TimeZone to your calendars, APIs might be instantiating calendars (or dates) using the default timezone. Now, I know one should be careful with these settings, but are easy to miss, hence make programs more error-prone. So, why doesn't Java have its own defaults - UTF-8, GMT, en_US (yes, I'm on non-en_US locale, but having it as default is fine). Applications could read the system settings via some API, if needed. Thus programs would be more predictable. So, what is the reason behind this decision?

• WCF - Compact Framework - Pull data from mobile client

  Hello guys, I want to communicate xml serialized objects from the server to the client and the other way arround. Now it is (probably) easy to invoke methods from a mobile client (compact framework) using WCF, but is there a way so that the server can invoke methods on the client side or some other way to pull data from the client? I know that callback contracts are not available in the compact framework as you can see here: http://blogs.msdn.com/andrewarnottms/archive/2007/09/13/calling-wcf-services-from-netcf-3-5-using-compact-wcf-and-netcfsvcutil-exe.aspx Originally I thought of socket programming and of developing this by myself, then someone here mentioned WCF. Is it possible to develop a two way communication with a desktop server and multiple mobile clients using WCF, or will I have to do socket programming? Thanks for any advice or any kind of help!

• Hiding flash component scrollbars using object/param syntax

  Hi all, I'm not sure if this is possible (complete non-flash developer speaking), but we have a 3rd party component that we want to only show a certain topleft hand portion of. I've tried limiting the size of the HTML object container as: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" height="415" data="<url>"> <param name="movie" value="<url>" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="flashvars" value="<vars>" /> </object> So limiting it to 600x415, but this causes horizontal and vertical scrollbars as part of the flash component to appear. Is there any standard way to override this behaviour? Thanks.

• Why does [NSOutlineView clickedRow] always return -1?

  I have a fairly pedestrian non-editable NSOutlineView setup. In the bindings for the outline view, I have set the binding to my file's owner (MyDocument FWIW) with a selector of outlineViewWasDoubleClicked The method exists and is called, but when I call -clickedRow it consistently returns -1 rather than the row number of the row that I double clicked to trigger the method. My _outlineView is an IBOutlet and I've verified that it is hooked up correctly by using -selectedRow for the method rather than -clickedRow (I would rather use -clickedRow though because it seems unintuitive for the user to have a row selected, double click another row to do something with it and have the method triggered with the row they had selected.) My best guess right now is that the -clickedRow value is getting cleared out before my method fires, but I don't know where or what might be gobbling it up. Thanks in advance for any help.

• Problem serving video to iPad from Mongrel 1.1.5 , RoR 2.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.3 Server

  I am working off the Final Cut Server Integration sample provided by Apple that is a Rails app using 2.0.2 and runs on Mongrel 1.1.5. I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad? • Why can't I log in with "claimid.com" as an OpenID?

  Hi, I need to implement a relying party for Open ID in a load balanced environment. Following the suggestions found here I have tried passing null to the OpenIdRelyingParty constructor. The results are somehow not consistent. If I use www.myopenid.com as a provider it works. If I use www.claimid.com as a provider I get the following exception: ProtocolException - No OpenID endpoint found. This exception is thrown on the CreateRequest method call even in a non balanced environment (my local workstation). Any idea what can I do to make it work for both providers ?

• Using info.plist for storing target-specific values for a multi-target app

  I have a multi-target iPhone app which currently includes a header file with constant definitions that are conditionally included at build time depending on which target is being built. However, I was wondering if it might be better to instead include this information in the info.plist for the build, as this generally holds target-specific meta, so logically seems more appropriate. Therefore, my questions are: Is it acceptable to include custom (non-Apple defined) keys in the info.plist file? Is this a suitable place to include meta for the app which changes between targets?

• ODBC datasource for DB2 on 64 bit Windows 2008

  First of all, sorry for this non-programming question. I just finished development of some code that communicates with DB2 and want to test/deploy it on a Windows 2008 machine. I'm a bit concerned about not being able to find a working ODBC datasource (DSN/client) driver for DB2 on Windows 2008 (x64). I have a 32-bit driver for XP but that one (obviously) won't install on 2008-64. The IBM web site comes up with 1844 results when searching for "ODBC Windows 2008", but none of them are relevant. The web site's also a pain to use, btw. While googling around I found some solutions by 3rd party vendors but they all want money :) And the DB2 client and ODBC driver from IBM have always been free-of-charge. Does anyone have a solution?

  I'm trying to process a list of files that may or may not be up to date and may or may not yet exist. In doing so, I need to resolve the full path of an item, even though the item may be specified with relative paths. However, Resolve-Path prints and error when used with a non-existant file. For example, What's the simplest, cleanest way to resolve ".\newdir\newfile.txt" to "C:\Current\Working\Directory\newdir\newfile.txt" in Powershell? Note that System.IO.Path's static method use with the process's working directory - which isn't the powershell current location.

On XP this works fine without being admin. On this link MS states that 'Windows 7: Low-integrity users have read-only permissions for local WMI operations.'. I guess this is the problem. But I can't find any clue on how to change this.

However, when GWT starts up, I get this error: 00:00:18.359 [ERROR] Rebind result 'com.mystuff.mypackage.FileUploadPanel.ValidatingFileUpload' has no default (zero argument) constructors. java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: com.mystuff.mypackage.FileUploadPanel$ValidatingFileUpload.<init>() Any idea what might be going wrong here?
