I"m adding a UITextView to a UIAlertView with the following code: UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Enter Name Here" message:@"this gets covered!" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:@"OK!", nil]; UITextField *myTextField = [[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(12, 45, 260, 25)]; CGAffineTransform myTransform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, 60); [alert setTransform:myTransform]; [myTextField setBackgroundColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [alert addSubview:myTextField]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [myTextField release]; If I place that code in a standard action method: (IBAction)testAlertView:(id)sender { ...the above code... } Then the first time I show the UIAlertView the cut/copy/paste popup menu will show in UITextField that's been added to the UIAlertView. (For instance if I tap and hold, then "Paste" will popup after I release. The problem is after working correctly the first time, none of the cut/copy/paste buttons will show up again next time I show the UIAlertView (new instance) unless I restart the app. Does anyone know why, or how to fix this problem? Bonus information I just found out that I can get things to always work if I create an show the alert within a UIActionSheet delagate callback. For instance this always works (cut/copy/paste always shows up when in the UITextField when appropriate) (void)actionSheet:(UIActionSheet *)actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { ...the above code... } Any idea what might be happening in this second case that make things work? I don't want to use a UIActionSheet in my app, so I'd like to find a way to make it work from a plain old action method. Thanks, Jesse

• Try/Catch with jquery ajax request

  I am trying to build a Google Chrome extension that makes an ajax request. Something similar to the GMail Checker extension. The problem is that when I do the request using jquery, and I put in the wrong username/password, it fails silently, with the error callback function ignored. If I move the ajax call out of the background.html script (where I can't see the requests in the developer window), to the options.html script, I get a dialog box to re-authenticate. If I hit cancel, THEN the jquery error callback fires. But in the original model extension (again, the Gmail checker), they use plain (non-jquery) ajax calls with a try/catch, and if I put in the wrong credentials, I get an alert saying as much. I tried wrapping the entire jquery call in a try/catch, like so: try { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: someurl, contentType : "text/xml", data: somedata, username: user, password: pass, success: function(data,status,xhr){ alert("Hurrah!"); }, error: function(xhr, status, error){ alert("Error!" + xhr.status); }, dataType: "xml" }); } catch(e) { alert("You messed something up!"); } But still nothing. • jQuery ajax call doesn't seem to do anything at all

  I am having a problem with making an ajax call in jQuery. Having done this a million times, I know I am missing something really silly here. However, I never get an alert back that says success or an alert that says failure. I did go into my CS code and put a breakpoint on the GetEmployee method. The breakpoint did hit, so I know jQuery is successfully calling the method. I stepped through the method and it executed just fine with no errors. I can only assume the error is happening when the jQuery ajax call is returning from the call. Also, I looked in my event logs just to make sure there wasn't an ASPX error occurring. There is no error in the logs. I also looked at the console. There are no script errors. Anyone have any ideas what I am missing here? `

The second Person2 set alerts "sal", then "bill", but it fails when the showPrivate function is called. The new keyword here works as I'd expect, but showPrivate (which I thought was a publicly exposed function within the closure) is apparently not public. I want to get my object to have distinct copies of all local variables and also expose public methods -- I've been studying closures quite a bit, but I'm still confused on this one. • Rspec Selenium. Test to check certain Ajax functions passes when i expect it to fail.

  I am testing a Ajax action using Rspec and Selenium. This test should pass right ? I also kept an alert and tried @browser.is_alert_present.should be_true but i got the same error. I tried @browser.is_text_present("test") and this test succeeded. In the test database a record was created for Alok Swain but when I tried the above assertion it passed when i expected it to fail. Is there any thing else to be done here. What am I missing ?

• Javascript code works only when the page loads

  I have a page with a dropdown and two textboxes. The javascript code checks to make sure that if the dropdown says Appointment Made or Patient Scheduled, the appropriate text boxes will have dates in them. When the page loads and the drop down shows either of the two above, all works fine but when I change the drop down the script does not work. I have put an alert statament after the third line and do see that when I make a change to patient_status, the variable a gets updated but for some reason the script fails and does not prompt. For example if the page loads and Appointment Made is selected, the script will prompt, but if I change the drop down to Patient Scheduled, it will not prompt. • Sticky/static variable references in for loops

  In this example I create three buttons 'one' 'two' 'three'. In JavaScript, variables inside for-loops seem to be 'static' in the C language sense. Is there some way to create separate variables for each click function, i.e. not using the same reference? • Associative Array / Object can't be read in functions

  At the very beginning of the javascript file, I have: var lbp = {}; lbp.defaults = { minLength: 40 }; I can successfully alert it afterwards, with: alert(lbp.defaults.minLength); But as soon as I put it inside a function, when I alert, I get "Undefined". What gives, and how do I avoid this? Is it absolutely necessary to pass this variable into each function, for example, by doing: function(lbp) { alert(lbp.defaults.minLength); } I would have thought that defining it first, it would attain global scope and not be required to be passed in? Thanks in advance for enlightening me :) ==================================== EDIT: The problem seems like it might be my initialize function is itself defined within lbp. Please check your email."; } ?> In the controller the redirect to that URL is else //email id does not exist in our database { //redirecting back with invalid email(invalid) msg=invalid. $this->_redirect($url."?msg=invalid"); } I know there are a few other validation types for disabled accounts etc. I'm in the process of redesigning the entire interface and would like to get rid of this kind of validation so that the div tags display when logins fail but not show the URL strings. If it matters the new div I want to display is <div class="alert alert-error alert-login"> Email or password incorrect </div> I'd like to replace the php my self in my login.phtml and controller but not a good programmer.   Hello, Today i discovered that my dev version of my website do not execute success callback, but all other javascript and jquery code is running good. But redirect is not happening and even if i replace that redirect with something like alert or console.log nothing comes up. What could cause this? It's really hard to track since firebug gives no errors.

• .htaccess file on localhost throwing an error when using a Virtual Host config on my Localhost!!

  I am trying to set-up my localhost development server. I have everything working but when I try to add an .htaccess it throws this error: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.   I'm seeing a lot of answers on StackOverflow that say that JavaScript executes code sequentially, but I can actually see my own JavaScript not doing so. • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

  Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated.
