  • Expression Encoder SDK - WMA Pro Codec Issues with Windows Server 2003

    I am using the Expression Encoder SDK to encode .avi and Flash files to a .wmv format suitable for Silverlight. By default, EE encodes files with audio using the the WMA PRO codec. If you are running Windows Server 2003, this is a problem as it doesn't support the WMA PRO codec and produces and error message similar to the following. Error Message: The Audio Profile settings do not match a valid system profile. Error Source: Microsoft.Expression.Encoder Error Target Site: System.String GetProfileString() I am looking for a way to change the default audio codec to something suitable for WS 2003. I am aware that although not supported natively, there is a highly invasive way to install Windows Media Player 11 and it's codecs on WS 2003 but this involves registry tinkering and other hacks not suitable for our production environments so that solution is out.

  • What is the need for 'discoverability' in a REST API when the clients are not advanced enough to make use of it anyway?

    The various talks I have watched and tutorials I scanned on REST seem to stress something called 'discoverability'. To my limited understanding, the term seems to mean that a client should be able to go to http://URL - and automatically get a list of things it can do. What I am having trouble understanding - is that 'software clients' are not human beings. They are just programs that do not have the intuitive knowledge to understand what exactly to do with the links provided. Only people can go to a website and make sense of the text and links presented and act on it. So what is the point of discoverability, when the client code that accesses such discoverable URLs cannot actually do anything with it, unless the human developer of the client actually experiments with the resources presented? This looks like the exact same thing as defining the set of available functions in a Documentation manual, just from a different direction and actually involving more work for the developer. Why is this second approach of pre-defining what can be done in a document external to the actual REST resources, considered inferior?

My IP address is 192.168.1.101 While http://localhost and http://192.168.1.101 work fine in my PC, I cannot access it from within my laptop using http://192.168.1.102 It's strange. I can ping 192.168.1.101 but I got "The connection has timed out." in browser.     Running 12.04, installed and updated latest drivers for MP495 but nothing stil. latest drivers provided here: https://code.launchpad.net/~michael-gruz/+archive/canon-trunk/+packages Followed this guide to the letter: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1602839&page=11 Xsane and simple scan do not work. I have tried various other programs and have nothing... People are saying it works well with 11.10, so I don't know what the deal is with 12.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need this printer for my out-of-home business, and I really don't want to switch back windows just for a freaking scanner to function. Why don't these companies realise ubuntu users need to print things too?!

Ok, you're right Mr. FxCop, I'll add a private constructor: Private Utilities() Now I'm having: "It appears that field 'Utilities.Utilities' is never used or is only ever assigned to. Use this field or remove it." Any ideas of what should I do to get rid of both warnings?

    Why ISO/ANSI didn't standardize C++ at the binary level? There are many portability issues with C++, which is only because of lack of it's standardization at the binary level. Don Box writes, (quoting from his book Essential COM, chapter COM As A Better C++) C++ and Portability Once the decision is made to distribute a C++ class as a DLL, one is faced with one of the fundamental weaknesses of C++, that is, lack of standardization at the binary level. Although the ISO/ANSI C++ Draft Working Paper attempts to codify which programs will compile and what the semantic effects of running them will be, it makes no attempt to standardize the binary runtime model of C++. The first time this problem will become evident is when a client tries to link against the FastString DLL's import library from a C++ developement environment other than the one used to build the FastString DLL.     I am not very experienced with non-windows operating systems, so please if you can answer, consider me to be a complete newbie with this. I have a Ubuntu Server 12.04, I installed Wine on it so I could install some familiar programs with GUI on my Ubuntu. I installed Filezilla Server using Wine, that went fine, the server is running, but I cannot find the GUI anywhere. I know it is running because in the winefile, if I execute the filezille server.exe, it says it is already running. However I have not been able to configure anything on the filezilla server because I can't see it anywhere. What am I missing?

    I am trying to run 'make' on a module in User Mode Linux to install a simple makefile. Here is my make file: obj-m := hello.o KDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build PWD := $(shell pwd) default: $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) modules When I run this in User Mode Linux I get the following error: make[1]: Entering directory /lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make targetmodules'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make: * [default] Error 2 The problem is that no files are present under /lib/modules/. There's no directory for 2.6.28 or build. From what I've read, these should be symlinks to /usr/src, but under /usr/src, I don't see any files under that either.

    Every time I try to open a word document I get this error. LibreOffice 3.5 Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user "closes LibreOffice on host". Do you want to continue? I've been onto different forums to find out a remedy but nothing yet. I've recently done a fresh install of 12.04 (64bit) and have been having some issues with different programs and have been able to work through most of them but this one, I'm lost.

    Hi, I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. If I use code behind( default.aspx default.aspx.cs) in a different solution with the same folder strucuture, browser is able to load the flash file.     On a new Rackspace Cloud Server box (Ubuntu 9.10), I've installed apache2, libapache2-mod-mono, and mod-mono-server2. I've disabled mod_mono and enabled mod_mono_auto, but whatever I do, requests for Default.aspx return the actual contents of Default.aspx (in this case, "This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!") I've installed XSP, and it looks like it works okay, but I'd like to use Apache with mod_mono (seems a more common configuration) if I can get it running. However, this is no error messages and no hints, with Google obviously not terribly helpful. What else can I look for to make sure I'm configured correctly? How can I test further?

    I don't like to use IE for my system default web browser. but I do want to set IE as my browser in VS2010 because it works a little nicer for debugging and I like to develop to the lowest common denominator. (jab, lol)... anyhow, can I default to debugging against IE? I know in VS2008 you just had to "Browse With..." on an .aspx page. But that option doesn't exist in VS2010 RC. What gives?

    Short: Do triangle strips and Tangent Space Normal mapping go together? According to quite a lot of tutorials on bump mapping, it seems common practice to derive tangent space matrices in a vertex program and transform the light direction vector(s) to tangent space and then pass them on to a fragment program. However, if one was using triangle strips or index buffers, it is a given that the vertex buffer contains vertices that sit at border edges and would thus require more than one normal to derive tangent space matrices to interpolate between in fragment programs. Is there any reasonable way to not have duplicate vertices in your buffer and still use tangent space normal mapping? Which one do you think is better: Having normal and tangent encoded in the assets and just optimize the geometry handling to alleviate the cost of duplicate vertices or using triangle strips and computing normals/tangents completely at run time? Thinking about it, the more reasonable answer seems to be the first one, but why might my professor still be fussing about triangle strips when it seems so obvious?

  • setting up log4j for gmail, does not recognize System.setProperty("mail.smtps.port", "587")

    Hi I am trying to setup a smtpappender for log4j using gmail as the smtp host. I have read that the port number needs to be 465 or 587 (depending on tls or ssl) and that log4j for some reason doesnt allow a different port to be set inside log4j.properties configuration file. I have read that the best way of doing this would be to use System.setProperty which would change the default javaxmail port to gmail. However when I try to set the System.property entries the the default port still remains as 25 System.setProperty("mail.smtp.starttls.enable", "true"); System.setProperty("mail.smtp.port", "587"); I was wondering if someone could help me out, I am open to suggestions, I just need to smtpAppender to work for gmail, dont really care how to get it to work.
