  • Chrome Countdown Extension [migrated]

    I have modified this countdown script to countdown to 4:20pm everyday. I have attempted to create a Google Chrome app that displays the countdown. The javascript is supposed replace a paragraph tag with id of "note" with the time left. It works when I load the page in chrome, but does not work when I load the extension. Example, if I put: <p id="note">asdf</a> I get just the text, "asdf", but when I open the html file I get the countdown.   • Installing Ubuntu by writing on the Hard Drive

    I have a laptop whose CD drive is not operational and is too old to boot from a flash stick. I have bought a new hard drive for it for which I have an enclosure. Is there a way to configure the disk as an external to my current ubuntu setup, copy some form of ubuntu on the hard drive, place the HD in the old laptop, and have ubuntu install ubuntu from there? Effectively what I am asking about is some sort of live cd that installs on itself (since the HD is writeable).

  • Updating Ubuntu

    I installed 9.04 from a disc but apparently need to download a new image then burn a CD to get n upgrade to later versions (v12) as there is no supported upgrade from 9.04. When I try to download the latest version I find my partition hasn't got sufficient space, but have no idea if (or how) I can resize the partition to store the image before I can burn the CD to update my version. Caught in a bit of a viscious circle here! Any suggestions please?

  • Installed without the usual menus. Now I can't log in

    I tried to install from CD. The computer wouldn't boot from the CD, so I clicked on the 'boot helper', and rebooted the machine. And the first thing I see is do I want to open Windows or Ubuntu (without it asking me whether I wanted to install it alongside Windows or replace it), and when I click on Ubuntu, after a very long time, I finally get a login screen. But I don't have a login, because I never set one up. Help!

    I download an iso file and installed Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB , i had windows -7 installed already on C drive , i installed ubuntu on E drive (sda5) , after the installation completed , it asked to restart , then i restarted , but the machine automatically loads windows-7 , ubuntu doesn't show up , help me out please ! Okk , my machine doesn't support CD's , so can i do this boot repair without any Live CD !

  • apt-get -f install removed software center and several other files

    I ran sudo apt-get -f install and several files and programs were removed including software center. Is there a way to re-download everything as if ubuntu was new again without a cd? This computer does not have a cd-rom drive. I'd be fine with losing all the data on this computer. Also, when I run sudo apt-get install (almost anything) I get errors about dependencies and files not being available. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    I'm trying to set up root certification authority, subordinate certification authority and to generate the client certificates signed by any of this CA that nginx 0.7.67 on Debian Squeeze will accept. My problem is that root CA signed client certificate works fine while subordinate CA signed one results in "400 Bad Request. The SSL certificate error".   • Problem upgrading kernel on debian 3.1

    Hi, I have a quite old box in a remote server farm. So I have no direct access. Only remote SSH (and via SSH to a serial console). I haven't updated this box in ages. Now, whenever I want to install a new package, a dependency to glibc appears. Unfortunately, the install of glibc depends on a 2.6 kernel and I am running a venerable 2.4 kernel (one more reason to upgrade). The problem is, that the install of a new kernel has an indirect (over locales) dependency to glibc. So, to install glibc, I need a new kernel. For a new kernel, I need to upgrade glibc. Essentially I am blocked. What's the best way to proceed considering I have no "hardware" access?   • I created a custom (WPF) DataGridBoundColumn and get unexpected behaviour, what am I missing?

    Hi, I am using a DataGrid (from Microsoft.Windows.Controls.DataGrid) to display items on and on this DataGrid I use a custom Column which extends DataGridBoundColumn. I have bound an ObservableCollection to the ItemSource of the DataGrid. Conversation is one of my own custom datatypes which a (among other things) has a boolean called active. I bound this boolean to the DataGrid as follows: DataGridActiveImageColumn test = new DataGridActiveImageColumn(); test.Header = "Active"; Binding binding1 = new Binding("Active"); test.Binding = binding1; ConversationsDataGrid.Columns.Add(test); My custom DataGridBoundColumn DataGridActiveImageColumn overrides the GenerateElement method to let it return an Image depending on whether the conversation it is called for is active or not. However: When there are more entries on the DataGrid then fit at any one time (and vertical scrollbars are added) the behavior with respect to the column for all the conversations is strange. The conversations that are initially loaded are correct, but when I use the scrollbar of the DataGrid conversations that enter the view seems to have a random status (although more inactive than active ones, which corresponds to the actual ratio). When I scroll back up, the active images of the Conversations initially shown (before scrolling) are not correct anymore as well. When I replace my custom DataGridBoundColumn class with (for instance) DataGridCheckBoxColumn it works as intended so my extension of the DataGridBoundColumn class must be incomplete. Personally I think it has something to do with the following: From the MSDN page on the GenerateElement method (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.datagridcolumn.generateelement%28VS.95%29.aspx): Return Value Type: System.Windows. FrameworkElement A new, read-only element that is bound to the column's Binding property value. I do return a new element (the image) but it is not bound to anything. I am not quite sure what I should do. Should I bind the Image to something? To what exactly? And why? (I have been experimenting, but was unsuccessful thus far, hence this post) Thanks in advance.

It leads me to believe that I am not getting that full image out of memory the correct way. What am I missing here? And on a second note, does the Camera source use significantly more memory than the Photo Albums source? I tend to get more crashes when using the camera.

  • Deserializing Metafile

    I have an application that works with Enhanced Metafiles. I am able to create them, save them to disk as .emf and load them again no problem. I do this by using the gdi32.dll methods and the DLLImport attribute. However, to enable Version Tolerant Serialization I want to save the metafile in an object along with other data. This essentially means that I need to serialize the metafile data as a byte array and then deserialize it again in order to reconstruct the metafile. The problem I have is that the deserialized data would appear to be corrupted in some way, since the method that I use to reconstruct the Metafile raises a "Parameter not valid exception". At the very least the pixel format and resolutions have changed. Code use is below. Indeed if I check the Metafile properties in the debugger I can see that the ImageFlags, PropertyID, resolution and pixelformats change. Original Format32bppRgb changes to Format32bppArgb Original Resolution 81 changes to 96 I've trawled though google and SO and this has helped me get this far but Im now stuck. Does any one have enough experience with Metafiles / serialization to help..? EDIT: If I serialize/deserialize the byte array directly (without embedding in another object) I get the same problem.

    I have a java programme than when a button is clicked it updates the image on screen to the according image. this will work for the first 15 or so clicks then it causes a java heapspace error. I think it is because of the way I am updating the jpanel that contains the bufferedimage but not sure what the reason is.   • C# DotNetNuke Module: GridVIew AutoGenerateEditButton is skipping over a field on update.

    I have a GridView with an automatically generated Edit button. I wanted some customized behavior for the Image column, since I wanted it to be a drop down list of items as opposed to a simple input field, and I also wanted some nice "fallback" in case the value in the database didn't actually exist in the drop down list. With the code I have done so far, I have gotten the behavior I desire out of the Image field. The problem is that when i attempt to update that particular field, I get an error spit out back at me that it can't find a method to update the form with: ObjectDataSource 'objDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'UpdateDiscovery' that has parameters: ModuleId, Visible, Position, Title, Link, ItemId. That's not good, because I DO have an UpdateDiscovery method. However, between Title and Link, there is supposed to be another param that belongs to the Image field, and it's not being passed. I realize that it's probably the update button doesn't know to pass that field, since it's a TemplateField and not a BoundField, and when I use Bind('image') as the selected value for the drop down list, it seems to update fine...but only as long as the field in the database when I try and edit the row actually exists, otherwise it bombs out and gives me an error about the value not existing in the drop down list.     I am trying to get a button to appear over an image when there is a mouseover event over the image. I have multiple images on the screen that I would like to have the same functionality.   • z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

    I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot.     I have a client that has an IBM xSeries 345 eServer. Per the IBM support website, I have downloaded the ServerGuide Setup 7.4.17 installation ISO and burned a bootable CD. The CD boots fine and loads the utility. I walk through the following screens without any issue: Set the date and Time Detect the IBM ServeRAID card and install the latest firmware Clear the hard disks Set up the RAID array The next step is format the NOS partition. I select my partition size and the utility goes through the following steps: Creating NOS partition Formatting NOS partition (NTFS) Copying W32 files The copying W32 files takes about 10 minutes. I see the CD drive and disks working hard. When the copying is complete, I'm taken to a blank page just NOS Partitioning at the top. At the bottom of the screen are the familiar Back and Exit buttons. I see the place where the Next button should be, and if I click on it I can tell there is something there, but the space is empty. No button is displayed and clicking the empty spot doesn't ever take me to the next screen. I can't load the OS until I get past this part. I have already tried: Burning multiple copies and versions of the ServerGuide CD Letting the final screen just sit there over the weekend thinking it might advance after syncing the drives or something Has anybody else seen this?     I am writing a script that gets called when a user logs in and check if a certain folder exists or is a broken symlink. (This is on a Mac OS X system, but the question is purely bash). It is not elegant, and it is not working, but right now it looks like this: #!/bin/bash # Often users have a messed up cache folder -- one that was redirected # but now is just a broken symlink. This script checks to see if # the cache folder is all right, and if not, deletes it # so that the system can recreate it. The crux of the problem is that the tilde expansion is not working as I'd like. Let us say that I have a user named george, and that his home folder is /a/path/to/georges_home. If, at a shell, I type: cd ~george it takes me to the appropriate directory. If I type: HOME_DIR=~george echo $HOME_DIR It gives me: /a/path/to/georges_home However, if I try to use a variable, it does not work: USERNAME="george" cd ~$USERNAME -bash: cd: ~george: No such file or directory I've tried using quotes and backticks, but can't figure out how to make it expand properly. How do I make this work?
