• Sum an Array - Objective-C

  Hi Guys, I'm just starting out and I'm looking for an easy way to sum a simple array. I've read into apple developer site on key value coding and I don't understand how to apply that to my array or if that's the appropriate way to sum this. My stumbling block with the key value coding is the .keypathToProperty - I can sort of understand that you need a further reference in a 2D array but they don't show the array code, only the keypath to the title of the row so I can't figure it out yet. • ASP.net error message when using REST starter kit

  Hi all, I've written some code using the REST starter kit and it works fine on my development machine. However, when I upload it to our server the page gives me the following error message... CS1684: Warning as Error: Reference to type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' claims it is defined in 'c:\WINNT\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.ServiceModel.Web\3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.ServiceModel.Web.dll', but it could not be found I've removed code line by line and it appears that the following line of code is triggering the error... HttpContent newOrganizationContent = HttpContentExtensions.CreateXmlSerializable(newOrganizationXml); Really haven't got a clue how to fix it. I assumed it might be because it needs a newer version of the framework to run, but looking in IIS it says it's running version 2.0.50727 which I think is the lates version because it says that even when we're using framework 3.5 Very confused, any ideas? • Compiler/Linking Error: Freedup

  I've been trying to compile a program for hardlinking duplicate files called freedup. I did try to email the author/maintainer of the program, but it's been a long time and I haven't heard anything back from him. I'm trying to compile the program from a cygwin environment using the latest stable versions of gcc (3.4.4-999) and make (3.81-2). I've tried deleting all the object files and running make, but I always get the following error: freedup.o: In function 'main': /home/[user]/freedup-1.5/freedup.c:1791: undefined reference to '_hashed' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: * * * [freedup] Error 1 I did take a look at the source code and saw that the "hashed" function is an inline function (which I didn't think had to be declared outside of the source file... but that's just what I gathered from some preliminary googling). If anyone would be kind enough to try compiling this program in a windows environment and has any luck, I'd really appreciate it. • How does mysql define DISTINCT()

  AFAIK SQL defines two uses of DISTINCT keywords - SELECT DISTINCT field... and SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT field) ... However in one of web applications that I administer I've noticed performance issues on queries like SELECT DISTINCT(field1), field2, field3 ... DISTINCT() on a single column makes no sense and I am almost sure it is interpreted as SELECT DISTINCT field1, field2, field3 ... but how can I prove this? I've searched mysql site for a reference on this particular syntax but could not find any. Does anyone have a link to definition of DISTINCT() in mysql or knows about other authoritative source on this? Best

• Binary search of unaccesible data field in ldap from python

  I'm interested in reproducing a particular python script. I have a friend who was accessing an ldap database, without authentication. There was a particular field of interest, we'll call it nin (an integer) for reference, and this field wasn't accessible without proper authentication. However, my friend managed to access this field through some sort of binary search (rather than just looping through integers) on the data; he would check the first digit, check if it was greater or less than the starting value, he would augment that until it returned a true value indicating existence, adding digits and continuing checking until he found the exact value of the integer nin. Any ideas on how he went about this? I've access to a similarly set up database.

  I'm just getting started with ASP.NET MVC. I'm going to be using JQuery on the website I'm making, but I'm not really sure about one thing: where would JQuery code be placed? This concerns two things: Where do I import the JQuery JavaScript file? (I've been thinking that the Master page would be a good place to do this; am I right, or do I have to import it in each view?) Should all my JQuery code be referenced from the Master page (i.e., I store my code that uses JQuery in a separate .js file and reference it in a <script> tag)? Thanks in advance.

  I'm writing a kind of HTTP proxy, so I need to be able to do 3 things: Parse an HTTP-date given any of the 3 formats specified in RFC 2616, sec 3.3, Convert a file date-time to an HTTP-date string, and Output the date to a string. For reference, theses are examples of the date-times I need to parse. I will output only the first format: Sun, 06 Nov 1994 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 822, updated by RFC 1123 Sunday, 06-Nov-94 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 850, obsoleted by RFC 1036 Sun Nov 6 08:49:37 1994 ; ANSI C's asctime() format I'm pretty sure Boost date_time can do all of this, but I'm having some trouble with number 1. Does anyone already have code to do this? Perhaps I'm not using google proficiently, but I can't find an example of how to do this with boost anywhere. Thanks for any help!

• How to center an R plot after removing axis labels

  I'm working on visualizing a matrix in R (almost exactly like http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/MatrixPlot.html), and I've been using image(<matrix>,axes=FALSE) to draw the picture. However, I noticed that with the y-axis turned off, the plot isn't centered--the space is still there for the axis ticks + label. I can finagle some centering with par(oma=c(0,0,0,2.5)) but this seems inefficient and error-prone (if my matrix were to change dimensions/become non-square). Is there a better way to force the graphic to center? The right hand margin is significantly smaller than the left.

  Are there any .NET APis that can read/update the system.webServer node in web.config? I know I can do it via reading/parsing the web.config file as xml but that's awkward. To read/update the system.web node in .NET 2 I can use: HttpModulesSection httpModulesSection = (HttpModulesSection)configuration.GetSection("system.web/httpModules"); But is there any API based way of accessing system.web/modules using .NET 2? I have to reference the .NET 2 version of system.web.configuration because I don't know in advance if my web app will be run on a server with .NET 2 or 3.5. So it is limited to .NET 2 API calls only. • Why is the servlet request not available in the portlet API

  The portlet API deos not provide any reference to the enclosing servlet request and response objects. I know it is not the preferred model of interaction with the user, but it seems draconian to remove all access. I understand that for portlet driven interaction with the user, you want to use portlet URLs, and let the portlet container manage all the complexity. However if you have a number of portlets which are basically showing variants of the same data, it makes sense for them to be able to use the enclosing request to drive the data. We ended up using using a Liferay specific call to get the request, and it all seems to work as we wish. However I do feel the guilt. So my question really is, is there an underlying deep reason for the prohibition, or is it just to enforce the authors view of the API environment?

• C# ASP.Net The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found

  Morning all, I know that this sounds like a simple referencing problem from the title this is becoming a nightmare! I have a code class that uses the "iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient.dll". This Dll is referenced in the project and in the code class I have added this dll in the Using section. Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: using iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient; I have set the dll to copy local and it makes no difference, the Dll is installed on my PC so is in the GAC, I use this Dll with many other C# projects and have no problems. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be brilliant!

That time problem was resolved himself (without any actions from my side, with Visual Studio restart). At the moment, I had the same problem on another PC (Vista x64, VS2008, Silverlight 3.0, RIA Services Toolkit): ThomasDomainContext class that inherits DomainContext was not visible from the page's codebehind file. Again, it was resolved after VS restart and after that I got another problem: Error 1 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' does not contain a definition for 'employee' and no extension method 'employee' accepting a first argument of type 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) D:\Project\Budda\VFMElita\VfmElitaSilverlightClient\MainPage.xaml.cs for the following lines of code (error is noticed for the 31st line): 30: var context = new ThomasDomainContext(); 31: grid1.ItemsSource = context.employee; 32: context.Load(context.GetEmployeeQuery()); Any help is welcome.   Say you have a linked list structure in Java. It's made up of Nodes: class Node { Node next; // some user data } and each Node points to the next node, except for the last Node, which has null for next. Say there is a possibility that the list can contain a loop - i.e. the final Node, instead of having a null, has a reference to one of the nodes in the list which came before it. What's the best way of writing boolean hasLoop(Node first) which would return true if the given Node is the first of a list with a loop, and false otherwise? How could you write so that it takes a finite amount of space and a reasonable amount of time?

  Naming things well is arguably Job 1 for professional programmers. Yet we have all suffered from some bad naming choices from time to time. So just to vent a little, what are some doozies that you may have run across? Just to get things started: One of our original developers wasn't sure what to call a secondary key - on what turned out to be a primary table for this app - so he called it: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs. Unfortunately this system generates entity mappings from the XML, and attributes defined there result in classes, methods, and constants that are referenced through-out the app. To this day it is very hard to find a source file that does not reference this, er, thing! A few actual examples: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIsBean cos = (DL2WhateverTheHellThatIsBean)itr.next(); String code = getDL2WhateverTheHellThatIs().getCode(); From from = new From("DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs"); String filter = "_dL2WhateverTheHellThatIs._code"; (Very difficult to refactor)

• MYSQL Inner Join two table over two keys

  I am doing a query to return all users shopping carts, stored in the sb_carts table. The product information stored in sb_carts is referenced over two keys product_sku and school_id. It needs to reference both to return a unique product with unique stock levels etc. When I execute the following query it returns one row, I am expecting 3 rows. I have tried breaking the inner join into two separate joins but this still returns only 1 result. joining only on one key has the desired result, but may be retuning the wrong product. A left join returns 3 rows but some data is missing product specific Here is a simplified example of what I am doing SELECT sb_carts.product_sku FROM sb_carts INNER JOIN sb_products ON sb_products.sku = sb_carts.product_sku AND sb_products.school_id = sb_carts.school_id WHERE sb_carts.order_id = 0 AND sb_carts.user_id = 2 GROUP BY sb_carts.cart_id

• Line numbering in Visual Studio

  Why doesn't VS have any sort of line numbering? Is there any way to enable it, or a plugin for it? I know, the number of lines of code in a program doesn't matter, but sometimes it is nice to know how long a program is, or what line number something is for reference. I can't seem to find that as an option anywhere, to my surprise. Thanks for the help! This is Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. • How can I use offline access with the Facebook javascript SDK?

  In the Facebook javascript api there is a login function in which you specify extended permissions: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/javascript/FB.login One of these permissions is offline access. So I can save the facebook user's session key and assume it will not expire for a long time. The question I have is simple - how do I use the session key? I understand that the session key will last longer, but I don't understand how to use it in the Facebook API. For one of my products, a user must restart his/her browser and I would like to recognize them when they restart. The problem is that they are logged out of facebook, so they must login on my site again where I would rather just use offline access. Sample code would be great! Thanks

  Douglas Crockford describes the consequence of Javascript inquiring a node's style. How simply asking for the margin of a div causes the browser to 'reflow' the div in the browser's rendering engine four times. So that made me wonder, during the initial rendering of a page (or in Crockford's jargon a "web scroll") is it faster to write CSS that defines only the non-zero/non-default values? To provide an example: div{ margin-left:2px; } Than div{ margin:0 0 0 2px; } I know consequence of this 'savings' is insignificant, but I think it is still important to understand how the technologies are implemented.
