  • Problem with the hosts file in Windows XP

    I have a computer with Windows XP SP2 with a weird problem. The hosts file doesn't work. No matter what I do, adding or removing entries in the file doesn't make any difference, pinging the added names times out. I tried flushing the DNS cache (using ipconfig /flushdns) but that didn't work, I even tried to restart the DNS client service but that made no difference too. Removing entries also has no effect, I ping the names and I get a reply. Help!!! Edit: Thanks for your answer guys, but the problem is more complicated than this. It seems I'll have to reinstall Windows.

  • server shrinks html file to 0bytes on upload

    Hi there, I have come across a very unusual problem. I am working on a website at the moment and whenever I upload a file to the server, it becomes a 0kb file. I have changed ftp software to filezilla to see would this help and it hasn't. I have compared it to other sites I am working on the permissions are the same numbers 0644 but on the site that I am having the trouble with the permissions have the prefix- flcdmpe(0644). Would this be the problem and if so any ideas how to change it?, changing the permissions doesn't work. I have been onto the host company and they cannot figure it out at all.   • proxy.pac file performance optimization

    I reroute certain websites through a proxy with a proxy.pac file. It basically looks like this: if (shExpMatch(host, "www.youtube.com")) { return "PROXY proxy.domain.tld:8080; DIRECT" } if (shExpMatch(host, "youtube.com")) { return "PROXY proxy.domain.tld:8080; DIRECT" } At the moment about 125 sites are rerouted using this method. However, I plan on adding quite a few more domains to it, and I'm guessing it will eventually be a list of 500-1000 domains. It's important to not reroute all traffic through the proxy. What's the best way to keep this file optimized, performance-wise ? Thanks

    I downloaded something and now, it is show this open file security warning. I have searched but I have only found how to disable security warnings globally. I only want to say NO forever to this warning, but it keeps showing up whenever Windows starts. The "Name" and "From" are: "C:/Users/MyUser/AppData/Local/Temp/Windows-Update.exe" I cannot even find that folder and file! I don't really know what was downloaded, I am helping someone else. (I am not a Windows user, so I am very lost here)

    I'm upgrading a website and I use this .htaccess file to show maintenance page: #MAINTENANCE-PAGE REDIRECT RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^127\.0\.0\.0 # Bogus IP address for posting here RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^127\.0\.0\.0 # Bogus IP address for posting here RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/maintenance\.html$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.no/maintenance.html [R=307,L] This opens the maintenance page for all users except the two IP addresses I've added. They get an Internal Server Error. I've used thesame script on another site, and that worked fine. Looking at the error log, I see the following: /var/www/vhosts/mysite.no/httpdocs/.htaccess: RewriteCond: bad flag delimiters If I remove my .htaccess file, I can work with my site just fine. My site is hosted on a VPN using CentOS 5. How can I fix this problem?

  • Why does a pdf file download result in varying bytes logged, all with sc-status 200

    I have a mojoportal CMS installation on an IIS7 server where users are reporting problems downloading a pdf file. It always downloads fine for me and most others, either displaying in browser or in Adobe Reader. Using logparser to query the IIS logs, all the responses are status 200 (OK) or 304 (Not modified), but the bytes sent vary quite a bit. Sometimes zero, some 211, some about half the full file size of 27059, and lots in between. Plenty show the full size of 27059. Do these other entries for smaller byte counts represent errors of some kind, correlating with the problems reported? Is this likely to be a browser/client issue or a server side problem? If there is any other info that would be helpful let me know. This is a shared hosting server though so I am somewhat limited in what I can dig into on the server.

    Has anyone had any issues with logrotate before that causes a log file to get rotated and then go back to the same size it originally was?     I'm having the following issue on a host using Apache 2.2.22 + PHP 5.4.0 I need to provide the file /home/server1/htdocs/admin/contents.php when a user makes the request: http://server1/admin/contents, but I obtain this message on the server error_log. Negotiation: discovered file(s) matching request: /home/server1/htdocs/admin/contents (None could be negotiated) Notice that I have mod_negotiation enabled and MultiViews among the options for the related virtualhost: <Directory "/home/server1/htdocs"> Options Indexes Includes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride All </Directory> I also use mod_rewrite, with the following .htaccess rules: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^([^\./]*)$ index.php?t=$1 [L] </IfModule> It seems very strange, but on the same box with PHP 5.3.6 it used to work correctly. Any idea on why Apache cannot match contents.php when asking for content (which should be what mod_negotiation is supposed to do)?

  • My PC becomes very slow after changing page file in XP.

    Hello there, I have 5 partitions in my computer (C, D, E, F, G), and C: is the system partition. Recently I changed the page file setting to use 768-768 MB from the G:, without changing the C: default value (256-512 MB). Everything runs fine until I rebooted my PC. I unset the G:'s page file before I rebooted my PC. Well, after I rebooted my PC, my XP becomes VERY slow. damn slow. I don't know how long I wasted to wait for the boot screen to disappear. (Well, maybe about 1-3 mins. Normally it is under 10 secs) and when I tried to enter the desktop, it just like using a computer without a VGA card, or VGA driver installed. Very slow. Any suggestions to fix this problem? Because I hate to repair-install my XP =\ Thanks.

    Let's say we have two files. match.txt: A file containing patterns to match: fed ghi tsr qpo data.txt: A file containing lines of text: abc fed ghi jkl mno pqr stu vwx zyx wvu tsr qpo Now, I want to issue a grep command that should return the first and third line from data.txt: abc fed ghi jkl zyx wvu tsr qpo ... because each of these two lines match one of the patterns in match.txt. I have tried: grep -F -f match.txt data.txt but that returns no results. grep info: GNU grep 2.6.3 (cygwin) OS info: Windows 2008 R2 Update: It seems, that grep is confused by the space in the search pattern lines, but with the -F flag, it should be treating each line in match.txt as an individual match pattern.

  • Get sessions' remote IP from Teamviewer log file

    I'd like to know who has logged in to my machine and when. I have two TeamViewer log files: Connections_incoming.txt and TeamViewer7_Logfile.log. The first one is quite plain and lists, as its name says, the incoming connections to the machine, reporting the local name of the remote host, login time, logout time, and some ids. e.g.: 173274362 MYLAPTOP 20-02-2012 17:32:16 20-02-2012 17:50:42 Master RemoteControl {C5AAE483-ED0B-54B8-9235-7AE597CAD342} This is almost all what I need, but unfortunately no remote IP address is reported here, so I checked for IPs in TeamViewer7_Logfile.log but it is really messy. It indeed contains some IP addresses but I can't understand which one is bound with the items in the first log file. Is there a way to interpolate the two logs to get what I need? Should I search the second file for some particular text? What do you suggest?

File Zilla asks for a Host name, Username, password to connect to the remote server. Now all I want is my users in LAN should be able to access this directory from their system using FTP software like FileZilla.
