• Strange type-related error

• When to use () with classes?

  This is really starting to confuse the hell out of me. When do I use them, when don't I? For example I was reading a .cpp on linked lists whose class declaration was: struct CarPart { long PartNumber; char Partname[40]; double UnitPrice; CarPart *next; }; class ListOfParts { int size; public: CarPart *head; ListOfParts(); ~ListOfParts(); const int count() const; void insert( CarPart *item ); CarPart *retrieve( int pos ); }; With this code, why am I allowed to write ListOfParts *pPart = new ListOfParts(); CarPart *pCarPart = new CarPart; Declaring an instance of ListOfParts requires (), but not my CarPart? That's confusing me. When I asked a question before and people told me that such a declaration is a function that returns a ListOfParts object, but not the actual constructor. So I'm guessing this is still something different. What's happening here? PS: Am I correct to assume that the const to the right of count() means I cannot modify any values in count?

• What does the Asterisk * mean in Objective-C?

  Is it true, that the Asterisk always means "Hey, that is a pointer!" And an Pointer always holds an memory adress? (Yes I know for the exception that a * is used for math operation) For Example: NSString* myString; or SomeClass* thatClass; or (*somePointerToAStruct).myStructComponent = 5; I feel that there is more I need to know about the Asterirsk (*) than that I use it when defining an Variable that is a pointer to a class. Because sometimes I already say in the declaration of an parameter that the Parameter variable is a pointer, and still I have to use the Asterisk in front of the Variable in order to access the value. That recently happened after I wanted to pass a pointer of an struct to a method in a way like [myObj myMethod:&myStruct], I could not access a component value from that structure even though my method declaration already said that there is a parameter (DemoStruct*)myVar which indeed should be already known as a pointer to that demostruct, still I had always to say: "Man, compiler. Listen! It IIISSS a pointer:" and write: (*myVar).myStructComponentX = 5; I really really really do not understand why I have to say that twice. And only in this case. When I use the Asterisk in context of an NSString* myString then I can just access myString however I like, without telling the compiler each time that it's a pointer. i.e. like using *myString = @"yep". It just makes no sense to me.

• I can't seem to figure out type variables mixed with classes.

  I pretty much understand 3/4 the rest of the language, but every time I dip my feet into using classes in a meaningful way in my code I get permantently entrenched. Why doesn't this extremely simple code work? data Room n = Room n n deriving Show class HasArea a where width :: (Num n) => a -> n instance (Num n) => HasArea (Room n) where width (Room w h) = w So, room width is denoted by ints or maybe floats, I don't want to restrict it at this point. Both the class and the instance restrict the n type to Nums, but it still doesn't like it and I get this error: Couldn't match expected type `n1' against inferred type `n' `n1' is a rigid type variable bound by the type signature for `width' at Dungeon.hs:11:16 `n' is a rigid type variable bound by the instance declaration at Dungeon.hs:13:14 In the expression: w In the definition of `width': width (Room w h) = w In the instance declaration for `HasArea (Room n)' So it tells me the types doesn't match, but it doesn't tell me what types it thinks they are, which would be really helpful. As a side note, is there any easy way to debug an error like this? The only way I know to do it is to randomly change stuff until it works.

• Is there command-line tool to extract typedef, structure, enumeration, variable, function from a C or C++ file?

  I am desiring a command-line tool to extract a definition or declaration (typedef, structure, enumeration, variable, or function) from a C or C++ source file. Also a way to replace an existing definition/declaration would be handy (after transforming the extracted definition by a user-submitted script). Is there such generic tool available, or is some resonably close approximation of such a tool? Scriptability and ability to hook-up with user created scripts or programs is of importance here, although I am academically curious of GUI programs too. Open source solutions for Unix/Linux camp are preferred (although I am curious of Windows and OS X tools too). Primary language interests are C and C++ but more generic solution would be even better (I think we do not need super accurate parsing capabilities for finding, extracting and replacing a definition in a program source file). Sample Use Cases (extra - for the curious mind): Given deeply nested structs and variable (array) initializations of these types, suppose there is a need to change a struct definition by adding or reordering fields or rewriting the variable/array definitions in more readable format without introducing errors resulting from manual labor. This would work by extracting the old initializations, then using a script/program to write the new initializations to replace the old ones. For implementing a code browsing tool - extract a definition. Decorative code generation (e.g. logging function entries / returns). Scripted code structuring (e.g. extract this and that thing and put in different place without change - version control commit comment could document the command to perform this operation to make it evident and verifiable that nothing changed). Note about tags: More accurate tag than code-generation would be code-transformation but it does not exist.

  I don't understand templates really and was trying to run a simple find the minimum for ints, doubles, chars. First question, why is template<typename T> sometimes used, and other times template<>?   I'm new to java and I'm learning about creating object classes. One of my homework assignment requires that I call the constructor at least once within a method of the same object class. • Solr DataImportHandler configuration

  I want to get data from mysql database with the help of DataImportHandler so i can create indexes. Now I've configured my Solr instance so that it works on Tomcat (the example admin page), but if I try to change the sorlconfig.xml file i'll get the error message. I'm working with Solr 3.6 So my configuration is: In solrconfig.xml i added: <dataDir>${solr.data.dir:/usr/share/tomcat7/solr2}</dataDir> to specify my working directory and then <requestHandler name="/dataimport" class="org.apache.solr.handler.dataimport.DataImportHandler"> <lst name="defaults"> <str name="config">/usr/share/tomcat7/solr2/conf/data-config.xml</str> </lst> </requestHandler> to specify new request handler. Theese two are my lib directives for DIH.   I am trying to support UTF-8 characters in my ANT script. As long as the character string are made up of 2-byte UTF-8 characters, such as: Lògìñ Ùsèr ÌÐ Then things work fine. When I use Unicode Han Character: ? Which, according to this site: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/6211/index.htm Has a UTF-8 encoding of 0xE6 0x88 0x91 I can see in UltraEdit, my input properties file has the values "E6 88 91" all in a row, so I'm fairly confident that my input is correct. And When I open the same file in Notepad++ I can see all the characters correctly.   Hi, I'm trying to call a thread on a button click (btn_more) but i cant get it right. The thread is to get some data and update the images. The problem i have is if i only update 4 or 5 images then it works fine. But if i load more than 5 images i will get a force close. At times when the internet is slow I will face the same problem too. Can please help me to solve this problem or provide me some guidance? • Windows 7 Sysprep Default User

  I seem to be having a problem with implementing my sysprep. I have been playing with Windows 7, WAIK, Server 2008 R2 and various other things. I managed to create a WIM with everything I need installed and I have worked out the autounattend.xml. I now have a Windows 7 64-bit complete unattended install from a USB device. It has all my programs, setting and everything done except one thing - the default profile set up 100% correctly. I have created a mostly set up default profile. I booted into audit mode, customized the Administrator account (mostly anyway) and then used sysprep with an unattend.xml file containing the copyprofile=true command. The file was set up with the WSIM and does not contain any extra info. This all works wonderfully. I recreated the WIM and all was good. I then decided to move the default location of the visible stuff in the user profile (Documents, Music, Pictures etc.) without changing the location of Appdata or other hidden folders. This is where things went a little... wrong. I went to the user folder (generally has the User name) with all the other folders in it. I right clicked on My Documents, found the location tab and changed it to M:\Documents. Now if I run sysprep /generalize /oobe /reboot /unattend:unattend.xml it starts the generalise... then spits out a fatal error and goes no further.   Hello I am trying to setup nginx with stub status so I can monitor nginx requests etc.. with serverdensity.com. However It seems I lost "include" part in my nginx.conf and now none of vhosts in sites-enabled work. • Assign fixed IP address via DHCP by DNS lookup

  Preface I'm building a virtualization environment with Ubuntu 14.04 and LXC. I don't want to write my own template since the upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 has shown that backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. Therefore I'm deploying my virtual machines via lxc-create, using the default Ubuntu template. The DNS for the servers is provided by Amazon Route 53, so no local DNS server is needed. I also use Puppet to configure my servers, so I want to keep the manual effort on the deployment minimal. Now, the default Ubuntu template assigns IP addresses via DHCP. Therefore, I need a local DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the nodes, so I can SSH into them and get Puppet running. Since Puppet requires a proper DNS setup, assigning temporary IP addresses is not an option, the client needs to get the right hostname and IP address from the start. Question What DHCP server do I use and how do I get it to assign the IP address based only on the host-name DHCP option by performing a DNS lookup on that very host name? What I've tried I tried to make it work using the ISC DHCP server, however, the manual clearly states: Please be aware that only the dhcp-client-identifier option and the hardware address can be used to match a host declaration, or the host-identifier option parameter for DHCPv6 servers. For example, it is not possible to match a host declaration to a host-name option. This is because the host-name option cannot be guaranteed to be unique for any given client, whereas both the hardware address and dhcp-client-identifier option are at least theoretically guaranteed to be unique to a given client. I also tried to create a class that matches the hostname like this: class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; fixed-address my-client-name.my-domain.com; } Unfortunately the fixed-address option is not allowed in class statements. I can replace it with a 1-size pool, which works as expected: subnet 10.103.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 { option routers 10.103.1.1; class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; } pool { allow members of "my-client-name"; range 10.103.1.2 10.103.1.2; } } However, this would require me to administer the IP addresses in two places (Amazon Route53 and the DHCP server), which I would prefer not to do. About security Since this is only used in the bootstrapping phase on an internal network and is then replaced by a static network configuration by Puppet, this shouldn't be an issue from a security standpoint. I am, however, aware that the virtual machine bootstraps with "ubuntu:ubuntu" credentials, which I intend to fix once this is running.

  My Tomcat 6.0.26 sometimes dies saying: SEVERE: All threads (150) are currently busy, waiting. Increase maxThreads (150) or check the servlet status ... then Tomcat shuts down, and users can't access the webapp until I restart Tomcat manually. Some of the threads indeed take a long time to execute, it is by-design, not a thread-gone-wild problem. I know I could increase maxThreads, but that is not a viable solution, because the server might receive requests even more requests. QUESTION: Instead of dying, can I tell Tomcat to just drop requests when maxThreads is reached and the AJP/1.3 backlog is full? First and foremost, I want to automatically redirect visitors to the www subdomain (in case they leave that off), and internally rewrite the root URL to /blog/, so that the front page of the blog appears on the front page of the site. The problem is that the front page of the blog now appears at two distinct URLs: / and /blog/. So I'd like to redirect the /blog/ URL to the root URL. So then I tried this set: RewriteEngine On # Rewrite monkey-robot.com to www.monkey-robot.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^monkey-robot\.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.monkey-robot.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteRule ^$ /blog/ [L] RewriteRule ^blog/?$ http://www.monkey-robot.com/ [R,L] RewriteRule ^feeds/blog/?$ /feeds/blog/atom.xml [L] But I got a 500 Internal Server Error with the following log message: Invalid command '[R,L]', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration What gives? I don't think [R,L] is a syntax error.

• I have added a port to the public zone in firewalld but still can't access the port

  I've been using iptables for a long time, but have never used firewalld until recently. I have enabled port 3000 TCP via firewalld with the following command: # firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=3000/tcp --permanent However I can't access the server on port 3000. From an external box: telnet 178.62.16.244 3000 Trying 178.62.16.244... telnet: connect to address 178.62.16.244: Connection refused There are no routing issues: I have a separate rule for a port forward from port 80 to port 8000 which works fine externally. My app is definitely listening on the port too: Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State User Inode PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 99 36797 18662/node firewall-cmd doesn't seem to show the port either - see how ports is empty.
