  • Android - Avoiding an activity to destroy, just stopping or pausing it when pushing the back button

    Hi, I would like to pausing or putting the application on background when pressing the back button, I don't want the application to go through the destroy state. Things are when I override onKeyDown and when I force to pause or stop the application by using onPause, I have some issuees with the wakelock and application crash, but when I press home button I go through onPause method and I have no exception, it's weird!!

  • Monitor USB optical mouse activity for movement and call a program on Windows

    I'm essentially looking to monitor a USB port input for whatever happens when the optical mouse detects its own movement and turns itself on. These mice usually have a dim red light when in "standby" mode and then the red light becomes brighter once you start moving it around. I want to use Visual Basic or something else native to the Windows environment to open an exe file or play a wav sound or call a bat file when the mouse "wakes up". Any suggestions or pushes in the right direction are appreciated.

    Is there a way run an intent from packageinfo? I've been searching and I don't find it. I tried like that Intent i = new Intent(); i.setAction(Intent.ACTION_MAIN); i.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER); i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_RESET_TASK_IF_NEEDED); i.setComponent(new ComponentName(p.applicationInfo.packageName,p.applicationInfo.name)); startActivity(i); but it doesn't work because [p.applicationInfo.name] is always null.

    I have an application where users can: Write reviews about products Add comments to products Up / Down vote reviews Up / Down vote comments Every Up/Down vote is recorded in a db table. What i want to do now is to create a ranking of the most active users in the last 4 weeks. Of course good reviews should be weighted more than good comments. But also e.g. 10 good comments should be weighted more than just one good review. What are ways that could you tell whether the amount of mentions per entity per a given time period was unusual relative to their normal degree of frequency of appearance? I imagine that for a more popular person like Steve Jobs an increase of like 50% might be unusual (an increase of 1000 to 1500), while for a relatively unknown CEO an increase of 1000% for a given day could be possible (an increase of 2 to 200). If you didn't have a way of scaling that your unusualness index could be dominated by unheard-ofs getting their 15 minutes of fame.

  • Background Activity for Map in Android started again if phone orientation is changed

    Hi, i've developed an android app that's fetches an xml file and displays this data via several markers on the map. This works fine so far. The problem right now is that when i switch the orientation of the phone (portrait-landscape or vice versa) the markers disappear for a small moment, the xml processing is started again and then they reappear. Is there a way to prevent this re-loading of the file? It only takes about 2-3 seconds..so no big deal, but still disturbing

    I want to hide the title bar for some of my activities. The problem is that I applied a style to all my activities, therefore I can't simply set the theme to @android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar. Using the NoTitleBar theme as a parent for my style would remove the title bar for to much activities. Can I set a no title style item somewhere?

    Hello again, I am writing an application which is composed of an underlying service and a GUI controller. The service collects data and sends to the controller, I used Messenger and put an array of parcelable objects into the bundle of the message. But when it is received at the controller side, error occurs: android.os.BadParcelableException: ClassNotFoundException in unmarshalling MyData ... I am sure that MyData implements correctly Parcelable interface. It seems I have to do something with ClassLoader? or what else? Please help me. Thank you very much!

  • Can I install 12.04 packages on 11.10?

    I'm running 11.10 and am trying to apply the fix to this bug in Empathy, shown at the very bottom. There is an updated package for the offending component available in the Precise repository, and someone even posted a backported .deb package for use on Oneiric. However, when I try to install that package, it seems to have a dependency on a package that isn't available for Oneiric: (Reading database ... 254452 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace telepathy-indicator 0.0.7-0ubuntu1 (using telepathy-indicator_0.1.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ... Unpacking replacement telepathy-indicator ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of telepathy-indicator: telepathy-indicator depends on libunity9 (>= 3.4.6); however: Package libunity9 is not installed. dpkg: error processing telepathy-indicator (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: telepathy-indicator The person who posted the backported telepathy-indicator package indicated that it depends upon libunity-dev-5.0; the latest version in the Oneiric repositories is a 4.0 vintage. I also can't find a libunity9 available for Oneiric, so I'm wondering: is it possible to just add the Precise repository to my list and pull the updated packages from there, or should I not expect that they would operate correctly?

    I hava a simple program about video recording . I use the surfaceView to show the preview screen. and I also want to put some buttons on the screen. I put all the component mentioned above into a XML file which is "ipcam.xml" I use MediaRecorder , SurfaceView , SurfaceHolder to complete this program because the preview screen does not orientate correctly when I rotate my phone. so I use "setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);" but , the button in the program is always in LANDSCAPE direction . it will not auto change direction when I rotate my phone , but the preview is ok!! so is there anyway to solve this problem. I was thinking of implementing an AlertDialog but as I need more than 3 options it is not possible... I also thought of putting my ListView in a FrameLayout and have an view with a gone visibility that I would turn visible at the click and update the content but I don't know If it's a good idea.     I have associated my app with txt file. So user can select a file in File explorer app and select my app to open it. In OnCreate: Intent intent = getIntent(); String action = intent.getAction(); if (action != null && action.equals(Intent.ACTION_VIEW)) { txtFilePath = intent.getData().getPath(); } However, when user did not close my app, and he goes back to file explorer and open another file, OnCreate is not called. OnResusme is called instead. I put below code in OnResume: Intent intent = getIntent(); String action = intent.getAction(); if (action != null && action.equals(Intent.MAIN)) { txtFilePath = intent.getData().getPath(); } However, txtFilePath is null.     For example, In an ActivityA there's a button to create an Intent that will start ActivityB in a new task, like this: Intent i = new Intent(this, ActivityB.class); i.setData(Uri.parse("http://www.google.com")); long timestamp = System.currentTimeMillis(); i.putExtra("ts", timestamp); i.addFlag(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Log.d(TAG, "Sending: " + timestamp); startActivity(i); Then in ActivityB's onResume() method, there's this code to check the timestamp: long timestamp = getIntent().getExtras().getLong("ts"); Log.d(TAG, "Receiving: " + timestamp); Now the first time I invoke ActivityB from ActivityA I get the following logs: Sending: 120006000 Receiving: 120006000 Then if I left ActivityB running in the background (by pressing Home button), and start ActivityA then invoke ActivityB again, the following is printed: Sending: 120013000 Receiving: 120006000 It seems although ActivityB is brought to front by the new Intent. The extra field in the intent is being left behind. Is this a bug or an intended behavior?

  • even small file upload stops activity on apache/rails

    on my rails(2.3.5) app(currently 50-70rpm, maximum response time around 0.7s), uploading even 700k file(using paperclip plugin) locks up the server for web requests for everyone for 2 minutes! (other apps on same server work normally) does anyone have a clue why that might be happening? i am using some mysql transactions which lock the database also if that might be an issue i read http://www.therailsway.com/2009/4/23/uploading-files but it couldn't be locking server for 2 minutes for a small file, could it?!

    I am running my application locally -- ie. No external traffic and very low number of queries, fully under my control. I see tons of 'Audit Login' and 'Audit Logout' events. What are these and where are they actually stored (ie. Where is this audit log)? Are these a hint of a problem with connections, because I have only a simple connection string within my app and thought that connections would remain active throughout the operation of my app (ie. a single login at launch, and then a single logout when terminating).
