    In an interview with John Hughes where he talks about Erlang and Haskell, he has the following to say about using stateful libraries in Erlang: If I want to use a stateful library, I usually build a side effect-free interface on top of it so that I can the use it safely in the rest of my code. What does he mean by this? I am trying to think of an example of how this would look, but my imagination and/or knowledge is failing me.

  • Windows 2008 R2, UDDI 3.0 and No Admin Links

    Windows 2008 R2 might end up giving me a heart attack at some point. Yesterday I installed and configured UDDI 3.0 as part of an ESB 2.0 install & config.  After configuring UDDI 3.0, if I browsed to the localhost/uddi virtual directory from IIS, all of the links would show up in UDDI.  If opened up IE and went to the UDDI site only the Home and Search links would show up. You've probably already guessed at what the "fix" was... I had to Run IE as Administrator.  Then when I browse to the UDDI site all of the links show up.

  • Lost network interface after mac change

    I'm using Ubuntu server 12.04 inside Virtualbox and everything was working as expected, but since I changed the mac address in Virtualbox network settings the network interface is not being recognized on Ubuntu. I don't remember the old mac address and everytime Ubuntu starts shows waiting for network configuration when I use ifconfig only appears lo (loopback device) and eth0 is lost, how can I fix this problem?

  • IPv6 routing to another interface

    I'm trying to get an IPv6 enabled router to forward data from one interface to the other and I'm having issues. When following this example (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk872/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080ba6106.shtml) I am able to get full connectivity between all 3 routers in my simulator. However when I try to use only 1 router; I can't get connectivity to the other interfacs on the same router. My PC is directly attached to FA 0/1 and it can ping the router's interface. However it can not ping any other interface on the router(which unless I'm missing something it should be able to do). The router on the other hand can ping everything. I thought static routes might help; but the router already has routes for everything. I'm thinking the packet should come in; router looks up the destination in it's ipv6 routing table and then realizes it's for itself, and should respond. I thought maybe it couldn't respond directly; so I tried pinging a device like 2001:0000:0000:1000::2, but i don't get a response. I'm running on IOS 12.4. I'm missing something(hopefully simple), but I just can't see what it is. With only 1 router; how do I enable my PC to talk to the other subnets?   • After update UBUNTU 12.04 changes wired interface from eth0 to eth1, network configuration fails

    I have been running UBUNTU 12.04 for a couple of months on this system with no problems. After a recent update, the bootup fails to define the wired network interface as eth0, so the default network configuration fails. ifconfig -a shows eth1 instead, as unconfigured. Booting from CD works OK, configures eth0 as normal. Solution: sudo NetworkManager The network manager figures out the situation, and configures eth1 Question: Where did this problem come from all of a sudden?

  • What exactly is bootstrap admin-template and how it is supposed to be used

    So this is my second ASP.NET MVC 4 project. It's decided that for this one we will use this template and it was said in a way that I felt really stupid for not knowing how exactly this template will help us and what exactly we gain by using it. I'm used to using HTML/CSS for the UI combined with jQuery. Now it seems that instead of jQuery we will be using bootstrap which as far as I understand is just another JS library created from twitter, so if that's it then this part is clear. What I really need to clarify for myself is what exactly this theme is used for, what is offering, why one would want to use such a theme? From what I see in the live demo maybe it's just a stack of premade controls that you can use in the front end along with bootstrap.js and maybe I'm just confused because on the page is shown as much as possible just for presentational purposes. If that's right, still I wonder where I can find info for the current theme, the controls that it offers and the functionality that I get and not least - how to use it. But still those are just my assumptions. What I really need is a clarification on what exactly is this theme for, what is the advantage using it, is there a good tutorials about how to use such themes in the context of ASP.NET MVC 3+. Also any additional info about this theme and generally on using themes in ASP.NET MVC will be much appreciated.

    I know that you can make a virtual network interface in Windows (see here), and in Linux it is also pretty easy with ip-aliases, but does something similar exist for Mac OS X? I've been looking for loopback adapters, virtual interfaces and couldn't find a good solution. You can create a new interface in the networking panel, based on an existing interface, but it will not act as a real fully functional interface (if the original interface is inactive, then the derived one is also inactive). This scenario is needed when working in a completely disconnected situation. Even then, it makes sense to have networking capabilities when running servers in a VMWare installation. Those virtual machines can be reached by their IP address, but not by their DNS name, even if I run a DNS server in one of those virtual machines. By configuring an interface to use the virtual DNS server, I thought I could test some DNS scenario's. Unfortunately, no interface is resolving DNS names if none of them are inactive...
