    I am an Ubuntu user... and willing to buy a laptop for my undergraduate study, but the brand which I am likely to buy does not fall on Ubuntu certified hardware. I am willing to buy vaio S series laptop. Can anyone answer my following questions? will Ubuntu 11.10 run smoothly with full hardware compatibility on vaio S series laptop? is there ubuntu support for vaio or vaio support for Ubuntu? googling on net found that there are some problems running Ubuntu on vaio is that true? if so will I get support from any community?

  • If you can't do a Support Role, does this mean you should not be in development?

    Hi, I've been shifted around roles a lot, and have been put in a support role which seems to deal out a lot of rubbish due to poor business management. Anyway, my line manager says that he's not sure he would recommend me for a developer role as they regard support as a poor technical role. What I resent is the fact that not all the information is available to us about what we're supporting and I miss coding. This thing I'm supporting has been regarded as a disaster when it went in and is still highly unstable. The thing is...does he have a point about Support roles being under developers, or are they completely two different kettle of fish?

This morning we are also excited to announce that the general availability image of Windows Server 2012 RC is now supported on Windows Azure.  Windows Azure is the first cloud provider to offer the final release of Windows Server 2012 R2, and it is incredibly easy to launch your own Windows Server 2012 R2 instance with it. To create a new Windows Server 2012 R2 instance simply choose New->Compute->Virtual Machine within the Windows Azure Management Portal.  You can select the “Windows Server 2012 R2” image and create a new Virtual Machine using the “Quick Create” option: Or alternatively click the “From Gallery” option if you want to customize even more configuration options (endpoints, remote powershell, availability set, etc): Creating and instantiating a new Virtual Machine on Windows Azure is very fast.  In fact, the Windows Server 2012 R2 image now deploys and runs 30% faster than previous versions of Windows Server.   • Wifi Direct P2P-go and P2P-client support in ubuntu

    I am trying to get wifi direct working on a laptop with ubuntu 12.04 When I type the command 'iw list' it doesn't show P2P-client or P2P-go under 'supported interface modes.From http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/iw/replace-iwconfig I found that 'iwconfig' was replaced with 'iw'.Does it mean that my hardware doesn't have support for wifi-direct or is it just the software(drivers) issue? If is it just sofware issue please help me to find the right drivers which support wifi-direct.   • Unity 2d support dropped in 12.10, what now?

    So its been announced. Ubuntu is dropping unity 2d support. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for two things that are important to me. 1) A working system Unity is nice, i try to use it quite often. But it lags. 2) Support for older hardware. I also have old computers. You can imagine how they would work with unity if my current laptop is slog in Ubuntu. I guess i could use another desktop environment/ window manager , like switching to fluxbox. Anyone have any suggestion ideas/solutions on how to proceed with Ubuntu in the future? All insights welcome

  • Does md2 support skeletal meshes?

    I'm creating an FPS game. I'm writing my own game engine. So far all the backend stuff is going great. I'd like to support md2 as the native file format for 3D Objects, but I also want to use skeletal meshes. Does anyone know if the md2 file format supports skeletal meshes? In-case you need to know, I'm going to use blender as my Mesh creation tool and C++ as my programming language... Thanks For got to mention, the engine is based on OpenGL... Alright, for anyone who is reading this, I just found the Doom 3 md5 specifications (http://tfc.duke.free.fr/coding/md5-specs-en.html). It gives you some help on writing a parser (see bottom of link), but the example doesn't support lighting and texture mapping (the second set of example code allows for animation).     I'm curious to hear what approach people take to planning for cross-browser support when developing a website. There are generally two approaches I've seen developers take in their workflow: -optimize for webkit then apply hacks for IE7-9, or -optimize for IE7-8 then apply newer features for IE9/webkit Basically starting at the front of technology and working toward the back, or starting at the back of technology and working toward the front. How do you do things? What advantages or disadvantage do you perceive in the different way of doing things wrt to developing cross-browser support?

    I am trying to setup Appgate Ip tunneling driver on my ubuntu 12.04 by following appgate instructions listed below: Installation, Linux Make sure the kernel has support for the Universal TUN/TAP device driver, and then log in as root and create a new directory somewhere, and copy the files ag_iptd add_route add_gw_route add_hosts_entry ag_iptd clean_hosts_file del_route del_gw_route del_hosts_entry interface_down interface_up remove_dns_server set_dns_server fix_localhost into that directory. Then start the IPTD daemon by doing modprobe tun <directory-somewhere>/ag_iptd There is also an init script 'ag_iptd.init' that can be installed to automatically start the IPTD daemon every time the OS is loaded.Please check the documentation of your Linux distribution on howto do this. so is there any way to checkif my ubuntu 12.04 kernel has support for the Universal TUN/TAP device driver? and how to do so? I am interested in being able to play H.264 video online when using the Chrome web-browser in Ubuntu (and in the future on Firefox when Firefox supports H.264). Is H.264 support enabled on self-installs of Ubuntu? If not, is there some way I can buy H.264 support for my Ubuntu install? Assume a scenario where I self-installed Ubuntu on a computer that came pre-installed with Windows OS. I'd like to know any and all options available to me for getting H.264 to work on Ubuntu.

Is there any open-source game editor that uses Bullet Physics engine with C++ code edit support.I have read about blender but it allows python based editing(if I am not wrong here). I need an editor to quickly draw the needed objects and concentrate more on the logic on their interactions(mostly magnetism based). This(my project) is part of an already existing legacy code in C++ which is forcing the dependency. Also, is there any physics engine which provides support for magnetism?
