    Hi everybody!! I am trying to install libxml2 on unbuntu 9.10 and getting errors: $ sudo python setup.py develop Its a very lengthy error message but the last error is Setup script exited with error: Command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1. Can anybody tell me why i am getting this error? What are the dependencies or libraries required to install this? scenario: I am trying to setup the reddit.com clone, and when i run develop command, its generating a huge error as stated above.     i have noticed that every area has some tools you can use to make things easier. eg. css = dreamweaver doctrine/propel = orm designer // you dont have to hardcore code schemas manually and remembering all the syntax/variables mysql = mysql workbench // the same etc. in this way you get aided and dont have to type things the hard way, and can learn the structure, but then use GUI tools to help you develop faster. now i'm learning design patterns (singleton, factory, command, memento etc) and im wondering if there are some kind of tools you can use that will help you develop faster. i dont know exactly what tools i'm trying to find, just helping me when coding with design patterns (schema drawings? references?) are there any?

    How do you deal with analysis and design phases when you plan to develop a system using a functional programming language like Haskell? My background is in imperative/object-oriented programming languages, and therefore, I am used to use case analysis and the use of UML to document the design of program. But the thing is that UML is inherently related to the object-oriented way of doing software. And I am intrigued about what would be the best way to develop documentation and define software designs for a system that is going to be developed using functional programming. Would you still use use case analysis or perhaps structured analysis and design instead? How do software architects define the high-level design of the system so that developers follow it? What do you show to you clients or to new developers when you are supposed to present a design of the solution? How do you document a picture of the whole thing without having first to write it all? Is there anything comparable to UML in the functional world?

  • Writing iPhone apps on linux - What tools do you need

    Hello. I wanted to know if it's possible to WRITE and COMPILE/TEST iPhone apps on a linux platform. I've been on google for a couple of days now, and people either talk about "Mac OS X only!", or "Develop jailbroke apps on Linux". My dev partner has a mac and has a certificate to sign the apps. I don't have a mac, but I will be doing most of the development. So what I want to do is simply develop/test the app in linux, and when it's finished, simply hand over the code to him, who will then compile the finalized app and sign it ready for submission to the app store. Could anyone tell me what linux tools I would need to accomplish this?

    Hello, I'm sick of using vim to develop on some far Amazon-ec2 machine. I'm wondering if there is any way to Use NetBeans on my laptop to develop on and run the code on that machine. Basically I want a way to let NetBeans operate on an external disk space that I connect to using SSH, In my case I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.3 locally and the external disk space is located on some Amazon-ec2 machine. Any ideas? Or solution for such cases when a developer needs to code on some external machine and use a good IDE? Cheers,

    Hi there, I'm a newbie in the field, but in the near future I have to develop an application for a friend(I've already did some work of the app and the friend is happy). I assume that I need 3 places to store my work, but I'm not sure if this is the best approach. I need your advice, opinion, link,book, blog about this subject. I plan to have: a place where I develop the application a place where I keep a back-up of the application a place with the application ready for use I'll use git in the development stage, but for the later I don't know what tools to use, or which are the good practices.     New to iOS development and everything with the license is driving me nuts. So i got a few questions. I have a developer account but not a license yet. If i buy a iOS developer license for $99, that license is then stuck to my account? Can one developer account have multiple iTunes Connect accounts or is it stuck to one? Before i started to read up on stuff my account got added to a company's iTunes Connect account. If i then buy a license would i be stuck to just develop to that company or is it possible to change? I want to develop for my self and also one specific company. Can i use the same licence or do i need two? Can you have multiple licenses/certifications or whatever its called in Xcode? Is the iOS Developer Program both for development and distribution?

    Hi, A lot of interesting code/projects are implementations of protocols, eg SNMP. How are projects like these, which depend on implementing a certain format, developed? Is the process something like get the guidelines of the protocol and then implement code which follows it. For example, XML-RPC is about transmitting XML docs between client/server, so the documentation on this protocol must outline the structure of the XML documents and then the way the transportation between client and server works, so the coder will implement this sort of functionality (xml doc construction, networking between the client and server). Projects I am thinking of (not to develop) are C# libraries which can interpret .PSDs, make VHDs, etc. So if I was to develop a C# app to implement .AI files (Illustrator files), what would be the steps I would look at (such as contacting Adobe, etc)? Is this the way such projects are developed?

  • Advice about testing an application before release?

    I would like to get some tips from peer developers about how you go about testing an application you developed, prior to release to QA. Keep in mind, this is a small scale application (requirements are verbal), and so doing formal testing processes wont work, especially, since your boss told you to develop this app quick, push it out the door. Despite the time restraints, I would like to make sure it is bug free, however, numerous times in the past, I have had the app sent back to me because clicking the "Reset" button, messes up the other controls alignment etc. I know there are people out there that develop small scale apps fast, and send them out with minimal bugs. How can I achieve that? I researched this post, but it didnt quite answer my question. Testing your code before releasing to QA

I have to develop this patch with a friend of mine and we need to edit the same files on our computers (2-3 PCs).   • Specify artifact version outside of pom

    Is there a way to specify the artifact version outside of the POM file? I have 2 CI projects that build an artifact. One builds a "stable" development version from a 'develop' branch and the other builds an unstable version which is the result of merging all active feature branches into the develop branch. I want the stable version to build as xyz-1.0.jar and the integration build to go in as xyz-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar. Is there a way for the CI job to run a maven task or specify via the command line if a release or snapshot jar should be built without manually modifying the POM? Currently I have the version specified as 1.0 in the pom. I considered using the release plugin but I don't want the automatic version number increase and tagging that it does.

  • Developing a high-performance, scalable Comet application

    Well, the title says most of it. I'm looking to develop a chat application that will hopefully become something more, and currently I'm considering my options for what I should build it on top of. I've taken a look at Tornado with Redis as my primary option - Tornado, being a Comet server, is perfect for long polling to retrieve the messages on Redis, which I have the intention of using as both a persistent data store, as well as a message queue with its nifty subpub features. However, I've also heard good things about Django, RabbitMQ, MongoDB and Orbited. JavaScript isn't a big problem for me, so Orbited's JavaScript support isn't too much of a boon. Really, I'd probably be happy to develop on the route I've chosen for myself, but if there are any gaping deficiencies in my plan, I'd like some kind person to point them out before I find I've wasted months on this.

    Hello everyone, I need to develop an instant messenger (like MSN Messagner, but only simple and basic function is fine), based on .Net (C#). I want to integrate the instant messenger with my current web site user. I want to know any open source (better C#) instant messenger to reference? BTW: some of the users are using internal IP address (behind a gateway or proxy, like 10.10.xxx.xxx) -- so in this scenario two users can not use point to point message transfer if both of them are behind a gateway?     I'd like to start developing for iPhone or Android in my spare time, as a chance to learn something new but also hoping make some extra income. I'm not sure which is the best development for me to start developing on. I own an iPhone, but I don't have a Mac (which I would need to use the SDK), plus with the iPhone I believe there's an annual charge to develop for it. As far as I understand Android, the SDK is free and can be used on Windows. Professionally I develop using .net and C#, which sounds more similar to the Java based Android enviroment. Another negative I perceive against iPhone is it has a much more crowded App Store, I would think apps get better exposure on Android?

I am going to use it on my website and thinking it to share as iframe like facebook but I cannot think its securty because someone can develop a script that can click on it automatically. I thought a solution using sessions but I couldn't make an algorithm completely. How can I disallow autoclicks and which solution is the best? It can be any language I just want algorithm.
