The M2M platform has taken over as one of the industry’s main buzz words and there is no question as to why! Just 5 months ago we had a guest post on “Machine to Machine – The Internet of Things – It’s about the Data.” Now companies are extending the use of M2M data to increase opportunity and intelligence across the Enterprise. Just this week, Oracle announced the results of its “Designing an M2M Platform for the Connected World” research, examining the evolving drivers behind ‘Machine to Machine’ (M2M) projects and how those changes are impacting solution requirements. • Book suggestions for GUI related topics [closed]

    - by asrijaal
In the past, I've developed more on the server side, so no big GUI/graphic programming topics have crossed my way so far. I'm switching a little bit to the mobile plattforms (iOS, android) and would like to gather more info on the visual/graphic side. Using the SDK controls/widgets isn't that challenging and I would love to get deeper into the view/presentation layer. Animations, drawing itself, probably OpenGL. Any books that would take me a little deeper in understanding how drawing actually works would be helpful.

Yes, I know I’ve been gone for a long time. I haven’t professionally blogged for years. But, the good folks here, Adam and Peter have out of the goodness of their hearts, left my blog around and well, I though I’d check in. Since then, I’ve changed jobs, gotten divorced, bought a few more laptops, bunches of guitars, a snowboard or two, iPads, iPhones, a few cars, travel to India, Europe, Middle East, backpacked Scotland (and still damp), Nepal and all over the US. I’m three roles away from the SSIS...(read more)

She talks about installers now being standardized in Oracle for greater consistency -- no more WebLogic native installers. Also, JDK is no longer a part of the WebLogic install. The various installers she discusses include OUI, ZIP, OEPE, Coherence and more. Monica then takes us through a step by step install process. After the install process is complete the video takes us through the configuration wizard. The ZIP installer is then discussed and its effectiveness, such as it being the smallest downloadable option, easy, and very popular with our customers and limitations (such as for development only and not to be used in production) highlighted. Monica then takes us through the configuration wizard, its usage, and when to use WLST scripts. The video then discusses NodeManager and its usage and discusses how to reconfigure a WebLogic domain on upgrade – through our GUI tools or through command line interface. Lastly, it highlights Opatch – a patch application tool used by our customers and standardized across all Oracle products. Really detailed video. • poor font rendering in browsers on 12.04

    - by Alecs
I'm using a Lenovo B570e. I've installed the mesa-utils for the graphic driver because it wasn't recognized by default. Now I have this: graphic card : Intel® Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2. I don't know if it's just my impression but I think all the images are a little bit pixelated and I think it have something to do with the drivers. Maybe is not the correct driver associated with it, I'm saying this because when I was on Windows 7 the name of the driver was something like " Intel hd graphics..." Any suggestions? Thank you! Later edit: This seems to happen only in browsers.

  • Render SVG font in Adobe Illistrator or Corel Draw

    - by Viktor Burdeinyi
Hello! I'm developing a project that produces SVG files with custom embed fonts. SVG font definition I compose as SVG font tag with help of http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator or Batik SVG Toolkit. The resulted SVG file I try to open in following applications: Adobe Illustrator CS4 - text has default font and message noticed about font not found in system CorelDRAW X5 - text has default font and any messages don't noticed Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) - renders text correctly The problem is all modern typographies use CorelDRAW and Abode Illustrator for print vector graphic and them render not correctly SVG. Solution As for me, I see follow solutions: Save the text with custom font as SVG path. This will work but, I can't find any solution that can convert text + TTF to SVG path data; Use other vector format, f.e. AI, EPS or CDR. This solution is difficult for me, because I use SVG paths as part of input data; Recommend our users to use Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) or any other application which are based on Batik SVG Toolkit library. Batik SVG Toolkit requires Java runtime :( If anyone know some knowledge to open SVG embed fonts in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW please share them. I would be grateful for any help. Thank you. -Viktor Burdeinyi

  • How to force an HTML JLabel in a JTree to resize when the font changes

    - by Mike
I'm updating a Java Swing application to support the user switching the app's font from normal size to a larger size (so the user can switch between the two sizes at runtime). One problem I'm having is with a JTree that uses HTML for the tree nodes to underline the text in some nodes (the HTML is just embedded in the JLabel of each tree node). One extra thing to know about the nodes is that they're a custom component, adding a JCheckBox in front of each JLabel. The problem is that once the JTree is visible, increasing the font size causes the nodes (containing underlined text) to not resize. The HTML for those nodes seems to prevent the node from becoming wider, so when the font changes, the text becomes truncated. I think my options are to either: 1) use another approach to make the text underlined, since removing the HTML from the JLabel causes it to resize properly when the font size changes, or 2) keep the HTML formatting and somehow force the JTree/JLabels to resize when the font size is updated (possibly by firing a property change event?). The code already calls SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI() on the parent JFrame when the font size gets updated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Mike

  • Adding a font for use in ReportLab

    - by Jimmy McCarthy
I'm trying to add a font to the python ReportLab so that I can use it for a function. The function is using canvas.Canvas to draw a bunch of text in a PDF, nothing complicated, but I need to add a fixed width font for layout issues. When I tried to register a font using what little info I could find, that seemed to work. But when I tried to call .addFont('fontname') from my Canvas object I keep getting "PDFDocument instance has no attribute 'addFont'" Is the function just not implemented? How do I get access to fonts other than the 10 or so default ones that are listed in .getAvailableFonts? Thanks. Some example code of what I'm trying to make happen: from reportlab.pdfgen import canvas c = canvas.Canvas('label.pdf') c.addFont('TestFont') #This throws the error listed above, regardless of what argument I use (whether it refers to a font or not). c.drawString(1,1,'test data here') c.showPage() c.save() To register the font, I tried from reportlab.lib.fonts import addMapping from reportlab.pdfbase import pdfmetrics pdfmetrics.registerFont(TTFont('TestFont', 'ghettomarquee.ttf')) addMapping('TestFont', 0, 0, 'TestFont') where 'ghettomarquee.ttf' was just a random font I had lying around.

  • SQLAuthority News – SQL Server Wait Stats – eBook to Download on Kindle – Answer to FREE PDF Download Request

    - by pinaldave
Being a book author is a completely new experience for me. I am yet to come across the issues faced by expert book authors. I assume that these interesting issues can be routine ones for expert book authors. One of the biggest requests I am getting for my SQL Server Wait Stats [Amazon] | [Flipkart] | [Kindle] book is my humble attempt to write a book. This is our very first experiment, and the book is beginning of the subject of SQL Server Wait Stats; we will come up with a new version of the book later next year when we have enough information for the SQL Server 2012 version. Following are the top 2 requests that I keep on receiving in emails, on blogs, Twitter, and Facebook. “Please send us FREE PDF of your book so we do not have to purchase it.” “If you can share with us the eBook (free and downloadable) format of your book, we will share it with everybody we know and you will get additional exposure.” Here is my response for the abovementioned requests: If you really need my book and cannot purchase it due to financial trouble, then feel free to let me know and I will purchase it myself and ship it to you. If you are in a country where the print book not available, then you can buy the Kindle book, which is available online in any country, and you can just read it on your computer and mobile devices. You DO NOT have to own a Kindle to read a Kindle format book. You can freely download Kindle software on your desired format and purchase the book online. For next 5 days, the kindle book is available at 3.99 in USA, and in other countries, the price is anywhere between 3.99 and 5.99. The price will go up by USD 2 everywhere across the world after 1st November, 2011. Here is the link to download Kindle Software for free PC, WP7, and in marketplace for various other mobile devices. I thank you for giving warm response to SQL Server Wait Stats book. I am motivated to write the next expanded version of this book. • Funny statements, quotes, phrases, errors found on technical Books [closed]

I found some funny or redundant statements on technical books I've read, I'd like to share. And I mean good, serious, technical books. Ok so starting it all: The .NET framework doesn't support teleportation From MCTS 70-536 Training kit book - .NET Framework 2.0 Application Development Foundation Teleportation in science fiction is a good example of serialization (though teleportation is not currently supported byt the .NET Framework). C# 3 is sexy From Jon Skeet's C# in Depth second Edition You may be itching to get on to the sexy stuff from C# 3 by this point, and I don’t blame you. Instantiating a class From Introduction to development II in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 To instantiate a class, is to create a new instance of it. Continue or break From Introduction to development II in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Continue and break commands are used within all three loops to tell the execution to break or continue. These are just a few. I'll post some more later. Share some that you might have found too.

  • Firefox: substitute a font with another in any page

    - by kemp
I'm using the stylish addon and it works great. However I would like to substitute a specific font - say Arial - with another of my choice every time it is found instead of setting a global font (which I don't like as I just want to substitute Arial) or using a stylish rule for every page. Is it possible to do this? Maybe with a greasemonkey script?
