    I'm looking for a UUID library for programming in C, that has a reasonable probability of being installed (or at least installable by package manager) on most modern Linux desktops, and works with pkg-config. The following two possibilities seem most obvious: OSSP UUID Libuuid from e2fsprogs Does anybody have experience with these two and can recommend one over the other, or a third possiblity?

    I'm looking for a good book on how modern microprocessors are designed and work as I would like to increase my understanding of what makes them tick. Something that covers pipelines, superscalar architectures, caches etc. A book that is suitable for a programmer with several years of experience and has done and understands assembly programming and machine language, so basically not "CPUs for Dummies" or anything such. What books do people who design today's processors read for instance?

When developing in Java I used Struts1, which I remember as a hideous framework with loads of XML. Now I suspect that Java MVC frameworks have moved on from the Struts times.   • Azure Membership UI

    Using AspProviders (TableStorageMembershipProvider etc) from Microsoft WCF Azure Samples. It is WCF Service Web Role, and in Azure Storage Explorer I can see Membership, Roles and Session tables appearing nicely when I try to connect. But is there any exisiting code to manage Membership and Roles? Some ASPX pages I guess, something like this for plain old ASP.NET, but more modern and Azure-tested hopefully? Thanks, Andres

  • em vs px... for mobile browsers...

    For desktop browser all modern browser uses Zoom functionality so we can use PX but if same site can be seen on mobile then would px not be good for zooming in mobile browsers. or use of px is also fine for mobile browsers. even if we don't care for IE 6 , should we use em in place of px still if we are not making different site for mobile, same site will be seen on both desktop and mobile phones (iphone, blackberry, windows mobile, opera mini, android etc?

    I saw a similar question about the reason Google Chrome wasn't written in C#. But with the upcoming version of Windows and Microsoft's flagship language, I am having a hard time understanding why Microsoft isn't pushing C# to its fullest potential to give it more exposure via their market share? In addition can be interpreted as "Is C# and the .Net framework suitable to run a modern OS like Windows 7" Btw this is not a flaming question, but curiosity. I use C# daily and really love it.

    I'm using jquery.qTip on http://comps.gunnjerkens.com/phws/services/ Looks beautiful with the drop shadow and rounded borders in modern browsers...unfortunately the drop shadow is lost on IE. So I want to specify an IE-only rule that makes the border a different color than white.     I'm looking for the smallest (in terms of filesize) transparent 1 pixel image. Currently I have a gif of 49 bytes which seems to be the most popular. But I remember many years ago having one which was less than 40 bytes. Could have been 32 bytes. Can anyone do better? Graphics format is no concern as long as modern web browsers can display it and respect the transparency.

    I read this article: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-genericdao.html several times and believe I understand what it is saying. However, it is 4 years old and I have a JPA compliant Java application to contend with. In addition, I see that there is a JPATemplate in Spring that has some good functionality, but the Spring documentation says it is already deprecated! Can anybody point me to a solid, modern, JPA compliant, Spring based, working example of a GenericDAOImpl that proxies an Interface to provide generic finder execution?
