  • Stand alone or free application to backup ADAM / AD LDS database files

    Do you know any small standalone and free tool, that can be run in console, to backup / restore ADAM / AD LDS database files (like adamntds.dit, edbres00001.jrs etc.). I tried to stop ADAM service and copy / paste these files to other location but afterwards I was unable to restore ADAM from these files. I know I could use on ws 2003 some backup tool that was provided by microsoft but it seems to be unavailable on ws 2008.

I tried packaging the KitchenSink app, but it came up with packaging error. I assume if I can get pass the packaging stage, I can just simply copy and paste the app file into my iPhone (following the previous iPhone guide) THanks

  • Cannot copy non-latin characters from PDF document

    Hi, I have a pdf file which contains some non-latin european characters. If I copy some text with the highlight tool, and paste it into another program (word, notepad) - the 'special' characters do not transfer correctly (I get other odd characters in their place). I have tried copying the text from both Acrobat Reader and Foxit. Is there anything I can do here to copy this? Thanks

    Assume I have around 50 Cisco IE2000 Switches connected together and I want to reconfigure some settings, the same settings for every switch. Normally I would open a command line session via Putty and paste the commands. But as the number of switches is growing, even this method takes its time. I am aware of Kiwi CatTools. Unfortunately it's not free so I'm wondering if there are other efficient ways to configure a large number of Cisco switches.

As this appears to be some sort of spam, I won't paste the output here. I'd like to check for exactly the name I typed in. I thought the following would work, but it doesn't.     I work on a remote machine through ssh. I have a very large text file there (approx. 500 lines) which I usually need to modify, then copy the contents of that file and paste it in my local browser. The way I usually do this is cat filename and then select/copy the ssh output. That takes a lot of time. I was wondering if there is a utility that will put the remote file's contents in my local clipboard.

I did a 'Save as text' in Adobe Reader and the resultant text file is the same garbled text. Any ideas how I can get this text out non-garbled? (Other than manual typing... there's a lot of text to extract.)

    I have a Windows application which is deadware, and it lacks the option of exporting data into a file. The only way to extract data is to copy each line into the clipboard, and paste it in an editor. As a work-around, I'm thinking of recording the action once, and loop through it until it reaches the last line in the application. I know there are quite a few such utilities for Windows, so I'd appreciate it if you could recommend one for this task. Thank you.

  • Why can't I wrap text around grouped images in Word?

    When I paste two images into Microsoft Word and I set Wrap Text To Square: and then group them so they stick nicely together, I can no longer Wrap Text around this newly grouped image. Any explanation why text wrapping is disabled for grouped images? Note: if I don't change the Wrap Text option, I can't group them. This is for Word 2010 on Windows 7, but I've had this problem with every version of Word.

  • Unable to watch a high resolution and high frame rate video

    I have a video of a tennis match whose Resolution = 1280 * 720 Codec = H264 Frame rate = 50fps (Copy paste from info given by totem media player) My laptop is not powerful enough to play this video smoothly. How can I reduce the frame-rate of this video so that my laptop can play it? I have observed that my laptop can play videos with 25fps without an issue. I use ubuntu. I wouldn't mind using windows to edit/re-encode this video.

  • Wake On Lan only works on first boot, not sequent ones

    I have converted my old Dell Latitude D410 laptop to a server for tinkering. It is running an updated Debian Squeeze (6) with a Xen enabled kernel (I want to toy with virtual machines later on). I am running it 'headless' via an ethernet connection. I am struggling to enable Wake On Lan for the box. I have enabled the setting in the BIOS, and it works nicely, but only for the first time after the power cord is plugged in. Here is my test: Plug in power cord, don't boot yet Send magic Wake On Lan packet from test machine (Ubuntu) using the wakeonlan program Server expected to start (does every time) Once server has booted, log in via ssh and shut it down via the operating system After shutdown, wake server up via WOL again (fails every time) Some observations: Right after step 1 I can see the integrated NIC has a light on. I deduce this means the NIC gets adequate power and that the ethernet cable is connected to my switch. This light is not on after step 4 (the shutdown stage). The light becomes back on after I disconnect and reconnect the power cord, after which WOL works as well. After step 4 I can verify that wake on lan is enabled via the ethtool program (repeatable each time) This blog post suggested the problem may lay in the fact the motherboard might not be giving adequate power to the NIC after shutdown, so I copied an acpitool script that supposedly should signal the system to give the needed power to the card when shut down. Obviously it did not fix my issue. I have included the relevant power settings in the paste below. I have tried different combinations of parameters of shutdown (the program) options, as well as the poweroff program. I even tried "telinit 0", which I figured would do the most direct boot via software. If I keep the laptop's power button pressed down and do a hard boot this way, the light on the ethernet port stays lit and a WOL is possible. I copied a bunch of hopefully useful information in this paste I have tried this with the laptop battery connected and without it. I get the same result. Promptly pressing the power button causes the system to shut down with the message "The system is going down for system halt NOW!", and WOL is still unsuccessful.

  • Increase process memory cap.

    Doing copy/paste in Visual Studio 2010 RTM on Windows 7, 3GB ram machine, I was unable to copy text because of an error: Task Manager shows that devenv.exe is using a little more than 500MB. However I still have almost 1GB of free RAM available. Is that somekind of memory cap? If so, is there a way to increase it? It may be a bug, but maybe there is a workaround?

  • Debug JS from browser without a server/localhost

    So something I do very frequently is writing random scripts in JS without really being part of an app. To run them I just paste them in the console of either Chrome of FF which works as a nice REPL, or if I really need more fancy debugging I just add it to my test app on localhost and browse it from the browser. Is there a way to get all the good debugging of a browser (breakpoints, locals, etc), without it being served from a server?, e.g by just copy-pasting my code into console or something?

  • Some sites won't load on Ubuntu/Mint

    I have a REALLY weird problem with either my network or my OS. Last week I've suddenly had difficulties loading some websites or even more odd some parts of different websites. For example, I could load gmail.com, login and view the list of emails in my inbox but when I clicked one of them it would just time out. Another example is http://www.ynet.co.il, I can view the home page but going into any one of the articles fails (times out). I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Opera, all fail the same way. If I take a URL of a page I cannot load via the browser and try to wget it though the console I get the file just fine. I've formatted my machine (Used to run Ubuntu 13.04) and installed Mint Linux this time, it worked fine for a few days and now, again, having the same exact issues. Important to note that I have other machines connected either directly or via Wi-Fi to the router and they are all working fine (two win7 machines and 1 raspberry pi). Another strange behavior is that I can ftp or ssh to remote machines but cannot send files via ftp (times out) even if I set passive mode ON and when using ssh I can do just about anything but I cannot paste text into the remote machine, for example if I nano a file on the remote machine and try to paste anything from my clipboard it freezes. What I've tried so far: Disable IPv6 on the networking admin (and on firefox disabling ipv6 on the about:config page) Changing the port and the network cable I went to the store and bought a new standalone PCIe network adapter Connected my win7 laptop using the same cable and router port (sites that were not working on my Mint are working just fine on the win7 machine) Loaded Mint from a livecd, got the same result Tried changing the MTU (was 1500, tried 1492) Some observations: When I clear my browser cache and go to facebook.com for example, the homepage loads but I fail to load any profile/group page. If I refresh facebook.com homepage a couple of times it stops and fails to load until I clear my browser cache. I changed the chrome cache folder permissions to 0777 but that did not help. When I run netstat -n I see A LOT of connections that are in 'FIN_WAIT' mode (I'm guessing that's when I try to refresh pages that are not working and timing out), I have no idea what it means or if it helps anyone figure out what's wrong. The sites that are not loading correctly are always that same, they don't vary or anything and they fail to load exactly the same way on all three browsers that I've tried. When I Googled 'Ubuntu some sites not loading' I see a huge amount of complaints just like mine, but none of them that I could find actually says what the problem is or how they fixed it.     I just had trouble running VMWare player (version 3.1.0 build-261024) on Win 7 and got this error: Error while powering on: The following error occurred when starting VMware Player.W32AuthConnectionLaunch: Reply error "The system cannot find the file "" (code: 3).". I Googled the error and turns out the fix is to run VMWare Player as Administrator. I decided to paste the error and fix here so this site would also include the fix :) (I hope this get's indexed by google)

    I always use the same picture style when pasting (not attaching) images into e-mails in Outlook 2007. Even with the Ribbon, setting this style every time is a 4-click process. Is there anyway to set a picture style (Picture Tools | Format Picture Styles) as default on every paste, preferably without creating a macro?
