• Netgear routers don't allow you to disable wireless admin??

  I just bought a new router, the NetGear WGR614. Nowhere in the settings can you disable the ability to administrate the router from a wireless connection, which opens it up to brute force attacks from outside the building. Furthermore, it doesn't require a direct connection to the router to admin either, you can admin it while you're connected to the Internet. This means it opens itself to the possibility of an attack from within the network. This is unbelievable to me. What am I missing? Can this be possible?

• Is it possible to restrict the connection duration per client on the router (say with OpenWRT)?

  How to limit the connection duration per client per period (say, one MAC-address can connect only for 3 hours per week to the network). Where could be defined such a rule? In the firewall? So the rule should define not statically times (this is simple), when the client is allowed to access the network, but the duration of the connection per day/week/month, etc. How/where to implement such rules? Is it possible to do so with OpenWRT/DD-WRT?

• Access Domain over Wireless

  I have an active directory server and all hard wired clients connect perfectly fine. However any wireless clients do not recognize that they are connected to the domain, despite the dns server being appropriately set to the domain controller for both wired and wireless connections. Also - both wired and wireless clients are on the same subnet. I am using a Verizon food actiontec router. What am I missing? For instance, this is the same computer connected first via an Ethernet cable and second via the wireless.

  Possible Duplicate: HP Presario CQ 61-322ER (VV884EA) Wi-Fi hang up! I have my new laptop and don't have Windows XP drivers for it. I found that it contains the Broadcom BCM4310 chip, but when I install any Broadcom driver my laptop hangup on installing bcm5*.sys driver. Only power-off button make any effect. After reboot the device list (Device Manager) contains Broadcom WLAN adapter, but it is marked as disabled, for some hardware errror! Also if I disable device before, and install driver - then - all is OK! But when I try to enable it, Windows hang up anyway (no speaker beep, no mouse input, no keyboard input - nothing) What is the solution?

  Hi, I have a wifi network at home with a couple of laptops. I am running a Tapestry webapp on my machine. I can access this webapp from the other laptop if I use the IP address of my machine (I mean enter something like : http://192.168.1.53:8080/webapp/index.html). However, when I try to do so in Safari on my iPodTouch, it fails. Could someone point out what's the problem here ? Thanks, Abhinav.

  I got a new laptop recently, and have been having trouble with it dropping wifi since I got it, the card is Qualcomm Atheros ar9485wb-eg. I've updated to the latest available drivers, currently 10.0.0.263, and tried other suggestions on the lenovo website, including uninstalling the driver and letting it install again. One thing I've noticed is when I look at the troubleshooting log, it gives the device driver number as 10.0.0.209. Does this mean the update isn't applying properly? Any help appreciated, Thanks

  I currently have an iPhone app that communicates with a C++ server running on a computer, over WiFi. This app is sending its data (x,y coordinates) in a c-struct to the server. For further development, we would like the iPhone application to communicate directly with a java server, however the major issue is that java does not have the ability to emulate or use a c-struct. What would be the best way to send data (x,y coordinates) between the two devices? I can already establish a connection between the two devices. • Network topology for both direct and routed traffic between two nodes

  Despite it's small size, this is the most difficult network design problem I've faced. There are three nodes in this network: PC running Windows XP with an internal WiFi adapter.Base station with both WiFi and a Wireless Modem (WiModem)Mobile device with both WiFi and WiModem The modem is a low-bandwidth but high-reliability connection. We'd like to use WiFi for high-bandwidth stuff like file transfers when the mobile is nearby, and the modem for control information. Here's the tricky part: we'd like the wifi traffic to go directly from the mobile to the PC, as rebroadcasting packets on the same WiFi channel takes up double the bandwidth. We can do that with a manual configuration by giving the both the PC and the base station two IP addresses for their WiFi interfaces: one on a subnet shared with the mobile, and one on their own subnet. The routes on the PC are set up so that any traffic going to the mobile via WiModem goes through the secondary IP address so that return traffic from the mobile also goes through the WiModem. Here's what that looks like: PC WiFi 1: 192.168.2.10/24 WiFi 2: 192.168.3.10/24 Default route: 192.168.2.1 Base Station WiFi 1: 192.168.2.1/24 WiFi 2: 192.168.3.1/24 WiModem: 192.168.4.1/24 Mobile WiFi: 192.168.3.20/24 WiModem: 192.168.4.20/24 We'd like to move to having the base station automatically configure the mobile and PC, as the manual setup is problematic when you start having multiple mobiles and PCs. This means that the PC can only have 1 IP address and needs to be treated as being pretty simple. Is it possible to have a setup driven by DHCP on the base station that is efficient with bandwidth?

• Android - Redirect sending of SMS message

  I currently use a ContentObserver to listen for changes in the SMS ContentProvider and tell my application whether a message has been sent or received. Upon getting notification that a message is being sent I would like to present the user the option to send that SMS normally over GSM/CDMA or if connected to Wifi to send the SMS over an ip connection. I am aware of how to present my own application as an option to create and send an SMS when a user clicks on a contacts information and "Send SMS" but this is not what I want. I want the user to be able to use the native or a 3rd party SMS application and when they try to send an SMS present them with a dialog screen giving them the option to send the SMS in whichever direction they want. So is it possible that once I get notified an SMS is being sent to pause it, allow the user to pick the desired route to send it and then change the sms from being sent over GSM/CDMA to being sent using a protocol over IP if required?

I see them as complex vector with 4.6 mln of complex samples. I see their spectrum quite nice. I am looking document a bit less complicated as IEEE 802.11 standard (which I have).   Hello. I'm trying to compile some WiFi drivers I downloaded from SerialMonkey: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads It's about a driver for a Ralink rt73 chipset. I already got the build-essentials and the kernel-headers on my computer. When I try to compile the driver using the "make" command I get this error: root@curro-ubuntu:/usr/src/rt73-cvs-2009041204/Module# sudo make make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.31-20-generic' Building modules, stage 2.   I am attempting to get the string representation of an Android device's current WiFi state. I am using the getWifiState() method of the WiFiManager and am getting an integer returned depending on the current state. This makes total sense as getWifiState() is supposed to return an integer. The method's documentation indicates that the possible return values translate to one of the following constant values 0 WIFI_STATE_DISABLING 1 WIFI_STATE_DISABLED 2 WIFI_STATE_ENABLING 3 WIFI_STATE_ENABLED 4 WIFI_STATE_UNKNOWN Is there an easy way to translate the integer returned from getWiFiState() to a string representation? I've looked at getIntExtra but am unsure of its use.

• NSURLConnection on simulator and iphone performance issues

  I'm experiencing a weird problem and i wonder if anybody else has noticed this: I'm using NSURLConnection as it appears in apple's examples to get xml files from a certain server - pretty straight forward. And most of time it works, but sometimes it's just stuck after initialing and don't get into connection's delegate methods. I'm working with WiFi & 3G and the same server all the time. When it comes to didFailWithError i see that mostly it was a timeout error. When I enter same link in Safari it takes a second to bring data. And after another trial I can access the link. What might be the reason for such a weird behavior? How can I improve it? What is the role of cache policy with NSURLConnection? Thanks, Nava
