• Looking for a good Dynamic Imaging Solution

  I work for a small E-Commerce shop and we are looking for a process that will handle resizing our product images dynamically. Currently our designers take high resolution photos, either provided by the manufactures or created in house, and alter them to fit various pages on our site. The designers are constantly resizing, cropping, altering compression levels, etc., of each product photo to fit the needs of the business. Being that our product line is updated frequently, this becomes a monotonous task. Abobe Scene7 does exactly what we are looking to do and the images are served up from a CDN. Unfortunately we found it to be too expensive. I'm curious to learn how others handle this process at their organizations. Does anyone know of any good 3rd party tools or other SAAS providers that can handle performing some basic image manipulation and serving them on the fly?

• Many to Many DataSet Insert to Database using Stored Procedures

  I'm trying to do a many-to-many bulk insert to the database using a list of three different types of models. The only tools I can use are stored procedures and datasets. (But I can't use DataSet fills or DataAdapters, just plain ol' Stored Procedures). Is there an easy way to pass multiple values, let alone, pass three different lists and bulk insert them to a table in the database using stored procedures? (As specified in the title, the three tables are actually two tables and a third table to establish the many-to-many relationship between the two.)

Or will the iframe request get processed concurrently while rest of the document is downloaded and rendered?

  Consider this situation: There's a critical VB6 desktop application running on a production box. There is a possibility of installing a .NET application that queries the same DB that the VB6 application queries, which is an SQL Server 2000 DB. The VB6 application also depends on third-party ActiveX controls (registered .ocx files). The concern is - will the .NET Framework installation replace any files or break the VB6 runtime in any way. In other words, can we safely assume that an installation of the .NET Framework is completely independent of any previous VB6 installations and will not interfere with the running application?

  I faced a problem recently with a 3rd party library which generates classes from a xml. Here is a gist of it: class B; class A { void doSomething(); friend class B; }; class B { void doSomething(); void doSomethingMore() { doSomething(); } }; The compiler flags call to the function doSomething() as ambiguous and flags it as an compiler error. It is easy to understand why it gives the error.Class B being friend of class A, every member of class B has access to all the members of class A. Renaming of the either of functions resolved my problem but it got me thinking that shouldn't in this case the compiler should give a priority to the class's own member function over the function in another class of which it is a friend?

• How to cancel a web service call if it's not responding

  Hi, I have a web page (.aspx) that calls a third party web service to get some data. It usually takes couple of seconds to get the response back, and then the rest of the page will load. Occasionally the call gets stuck either due to the web service is down, or internet connection, etc., the page just hang there and will not load. My questions is: 1) Is there a way to abort/cancel the web service call after a set amount of time? 2) Is it even possible to verify the status of the web service before calling it? Thanks.

I would like to know when a player reach a milestone (eg 100 goals, 100 assists, 500 goals...) I would like to know also when a team reach a milestone. I want to know which player or team reach 100 goals first, second, third... I thought to use triggers with tables to accumulate the totals. Table player_accumulator (and team_accumulator) table would be player_id total_goals total_assists 1 3 6 team_id total_goals total_assists 8 3 1 9 0 5 Each time a row is inserted in stats table, a trigger will insert/update player_accumulator and team_accumulator tables. This trigger could also verify if player or team has reached a milestone in milestone table containing numbers milestone 100 500 1000 ... A table player_milestone would contains milestone reached by player: player_id stat milestone date 1 goal 100 2013-04-02 1 assist 100 2012-11-19 There is a better way to implements a "milestone" ? There is an easiest way without triggers ? I'm using PostgreSQL

• Unit testing a SQL code generator

  The team I'm on is currently writing code in TSQL to generate TSQL code that will be saved as scripts and later run. We're having a little difficulty in separating our unit tests between testing the code generator parts and testing the actual code that they generate. I've read through another similar question, but I was hoping to get some specific examples of what kind of unit test cases we might have. As an example, let's say that I have a bit of code that simply generates a DROP statement for a view, given the view schema and name. Do I just test that the generated code matches some expected outcome using string comparisons and then in a later integration or system test make sure that the drop actually drops the view if it exists, does nothing if the view doesn't exist, or raises an error if the view is one that we are marking as not allowing a drop? • How to convert a DOM node list to an array in Javascript?

  I have a Javascript function that accepts a list of HTML nodes, but it expects a Javascript array (it runs some Array methods on that) and I want to feed it the output of Document.getElementsByTagName that returns a DOM node list. Initially I thought of using something simple like: Array.prototype.slice.call(list,0) And that works fine in all browsers, except of course Internet Explorer which returns the error "JScript object expected", as apparently the DOM node list returned by Document.getElement* methods is not a JScript object enough to be the target of a function call. Caveats: I don't mind writing Internet Explorer specific code, but I'm not allowed to use any Javascript libraries such as JQuery because I'm writing a widget to be embedded into 3rd party web site, and I cannot load external libraries that will create conflict for the clients. My last ditch effort is to iterate over the DOM node list and create an array myself, but is there a nicer way to do that?

• convert int to string for use in allegro function

  I am trying to run the following code using allegro. textout_ex(screen, font, numbComments , 100, 100, GREEN, BLACK); numbComments is an integer, the function prototype of this function is void textout_ex(BITMAP *bmp, const FONT *f, const char *s, int x, int y, int color, int bg); and i cannot, according to my understanding pass this integer in the third position. I therefore need to convert the integer into a string. I did it like this, but it didnt work. • PayPal testing without using Sandbox

  I am developing a website in PHP that accepts PayPal payments. It uses the IPN from PayPal and has a custom payment template etc etc. It all works great through the Sandbox server but when it comes to showing my client, I don't want to have to tell them to login to/create a Sandbox account, create a buyer account and make a payment - he hasn't got time for that and probably won't be able to do it. Therefore, my question is - is there any simple way that I can show my client the PayPal integration in "test mode" without him using the sandbox? I realise that I can set the transaction value to 0.01 and just test on the live PayPal server but that isn't an ideal solution. Cheers! Edit: Just to better explain what I mean, this is what my client sees when he first goes to checkout; As you can see, he has to login to his Sandbox account before then purchasing the item using the buyer email that he sets up. It's just confusing and totally non user-friendly.

  Hi, My question is not exactly about coding, and I'm not sure if I can ask it here. Nevertheless, it's somewhat related to the payment integration process. I'm going to establish a service, and deliver it through a website. When you accept payments through PayPal, they display your actual name to every client, and I'm not that comfortable with such lack of privacy. Is there any way around that?   Have: xCode project with Google Analytics lib, could be normally compiled. Want just to put it to already working SVN to build project from the work macosx without any additional steps. I've tried different ways to add *.a file to the svn, but all just have not worked. When adding a directory there is all files except *.a in the svn. I bet there is not such problem with 3d party SVN clients, but want to give the xCode one more chance, so asking there. Guys, is it possible to add *.a files to SVN using xCode?

• Sorting of table column by string length not working as intended when done in IB via cocoa - binding

  Hi all, I made a sample application displaying list of employees with their salaries over NSTableView using NSArrayController. Basic functionality is working as intended. Also sorting is working fine when Selector - compare or caseInsensitiveCompare is assigned in attribute pane for table column- employeeName. Problem occurs when I try to sort it by string length by setting selector in IB as - length, for the table column - employeeName. It does sorting by string length but does it inappropriately. It is doing sorting on alternate clicks ie. on first click it sorts the content in table in descending order by length. Then on second click it does not arrange contents in ascending order by length but sets arrow on top as in ascending. Then on third click it arranges contents in ascending order by length but sets arrow on top of table column as in descending and so on... Can anyone suggest if I am wrong somewhere? Thanks, Miraaj

• WPF DataGrid Vs Windows Forms DataGridView

  I have experience in WPF and Windows Forms, however have only used the Windows Forms DataGridView and not the WPF DataGrid (which was only included in .Net 4 or could be added to .Net 3.5 from Codeplex, I understand). I am about to devlop an app using one of these controls heavily for large amounts of data and have read performance is an issue with the WPF DataGrid so I may stick to the Windows Forms DataGridView.. Is this the case? I do not want to use a 3rd party control. Does the Windows Forms DataGridView offer significant performance over the WPF DataGrid for large amounts of data? If I were to use WPF I would prefer to use .Net 3.5S SP1, unless the DataGrid in the .Net 4 is significantly better? Also I want to use ADO with DataTable's which I feel is better suited to Windows Forms..

• Source code annotation tool

  I'm looking for a tool with which I can annotate source code. I have some 3rd party source code (JavaScript) I need to understand and I don't want to change it (add inline comments) so that line numbers can stay intact (for communication with others), I can avoid accidentally changing something and my annotations stand out compared to the authors comments. Normally I would print the whole thing out an scribble on it, but the code is too long for that and I need to share it per email. I would be great if one could do some like that including being able to create "links" between so places in the code, possibly even visually with a lines or arrows.

• Is there a built-in way to determine the size of a WCF response?

  Before a client gets the full payload of the web request, we'd like to first send it a measurement of the size of the response it will get. If the response will be too large, the client will present a message to the user giving them the option to abort the operation. We can write some custom code to preload the response on the server, determine the size, and then pass it on to the client, but we'd rather not if there's another way to do it. Does anyone know if WCF has any tricky way to do this? Or are there any free third party tools out there that will accomplish this? Thanks.

• Database error when deleting entry in my rails app.

  Hi Everyone...again! I have almost everything in my Rails app working, with the exception of detroying entries. I can destroy entries for companies but not kases and people. The following error show when trying to do so: SQLite3::SQLException: no such column: kases_people.kase_id: SELECT * FROM "kases" INNER JOIN "kases_people" ON "kases".id = "kases_people".kase_id WHERE ("kases_people".person_id = 5 ) I suspect this is an error with the party model for the has_many :through associations that I dont fully understand.   Hi, i have little dilemma, i often use data-bound controls such as Gridview in conjunction with ObjectDataSource. But i have two possible options when can i bind data to Gridview. The first is that i set datasourceid of gridview in aspx file and databind occurs in a moment before PreRender event occurs or i can set datasource in Page_Load event and databinding occurs immediately, something like this: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { testGridView.DataSource = testObjectDataSource.Select(); testGridView.DataBind(); } } I think that in second approach i have more control above databinding. But how it is in real programming life? Which of the above two options is commonly used? Or is there some third option how can i bind data to data-bound control? • URLClassLoader does not find folders in jar if not ending with '/'?

  A 3rd party library (jersey) is trying to find Java packages by ClassLoader#findResource passing in the package name as file name (replacing dots with slashes). What I see is that if I pass a package name as 'a.b.c' (converted to 'a/b/c') it is not found, but if I pass 'a.b.c.' it is found. This translated directly to URL#inputStream that uses ZipFile which doesn't find the entry a/b/c, but finds the entry a/b/c/ I'm trying to find if this is the intended behavior or is there something wrong with my packaging (maven) or the URLs passed to the classloader (which look like jar:file://C:/.../foo.jar!/)
