• Django: How do I position a page when using Django templates

  I have a web page where the user enters some data and then clicks a submit button. I process the data and then use the same Django template to display the original data, the submit button, and the results. When I am using the Django template to display results, I would like the page to be automatically scrolled down to the part of the page where the results begin. This allows the user to scroll back up the page if she wants to change her original data and click submit again. Hopefully, there's some simple way of doing this that I can't see at the moment.

• I am totally unable to add a fileTree (JQuery fileTree addon) to my asp.net page

  okay, so i have an asp.net (C#) application and i want to add a list of file and folders on the page, so i figured i should use JQuery fileTree (http://abeautifulsite.net/2008/03/jquery-file-tree/#download) but now i am totally unable to display the file list.   From the preface of the second edition of Kernighan and Ritchie's "The C Programming Language": As before, all examples have been tested directly from the text, which is in machine-readable form. That quote threw me for a loop. What exactly does it mean? Was the original manuscript written as a literate program? My first thought was that this book, published in 1988 (original, first edition in 1978) predates literate programming, but now I'm not so sure. Can anybody shed some light on this?

  Hi, I've written a program in C++. It's just using the console to have it as portable as possible. Unfortunately, many Windows-Users seem not to understand how to use the program (Linux Users are just fine with it :) ). So I'd like to write a GUI for that program. As this needs to run on Windows only, I'd like to write it in C#. But I want to maintain the GUI apart from the original program. So basically, I need a way to include a compiled *.exe into another program. Is there a way to catch the console output from another program and send inputs to it? • Is NSDictionary key order guaranteed the same as initialized if it never changes?

  I've run into the same problem as found in this question. However, I have a follow-up question. I seem to be in the same situation as the original asker: I have a plist with a hierarchy of dictionaries that define a configuration screen. These are not mutable and will stay the same throughout the application. Since the original discussion seems to focus on problems arising from mutating the dictionary, I must ask for comfirmation: is the order of a dictionary guaranteed the same as they are in the plist, i.e. as it is read (with initWithContentsOfFile)? Can I use allKeys on it in this case to get a correct-order array of keys if the dictionary never changes?

• What should the standard be for ReSTful URLS?

  Since I can't find a chuffing job, I've been reading up on ReST and creating web services. The way I've interpreted it, the future is all about creating a web service for all your data before you build the web app. Which seems like a good idea. However, there seems to be a lot of contradictory thoughts on what the best scheme is for ReSTful URLs. Some people advocate simple pretty urls http://api.myapp.com/resource/1 In addition, some people like to add the API version to the url like so http://api.myapp.com/v1/resource/1 And to make things even more confusing, some people advocate adding the content-type to get requests http://api.myapp.com/v1/resource/1.xml http://api.myapp.com/v1/resource/1.json http://api.myapp.com/v1/resource/1.txt Whereas others think the content-type should be sent in the HTTP header. Soooooooo.... That's a lot of variation, which has left me unsure of what the best URL scheme is. I personally see the merits of the most comprehensive URL that includes a version number, resource locator and content-type, but I'm new to this so I could be wrong. On the other hand, you could argue that you should do "whatever works best for you". But that doesn't really fit with the ReST mentality as far as I can tell since the aim is to have a standard. And since a lot of you people will have more experience than me with ReST, I thought I'd ask for some guidance. So, with all that in mind... What should the standard be for ReSTful URLS?

• Passing IDisposable objects through constructor chains

  I've got a small hierarchy of objects that in general gets constructed from data in a Stream, but for some particular subclasses, can be synthesized from a simpler argument list. In chaining the constructors from the subclasses, I'm running into an issue with ensuring the disposal of the synthesized stream that the base class constructor needs. Its not escaped me that the use of IDisposable objects this way is possibly just dirty pool (plz advise?) for reasons I've not considered, but, this issue aside, it seems fairly straightforward (and good encapsulation). It's not in scope, so I can't explicitly Dispose () it later in the constructor, and adding a using statement in GenerateRaw () is self-defeating since I need the stream returned. Is there a better way to do this? Preemptive strikes: yes, the properties calculated in the Node constructor should be part of the base class, and should not be calculated by (or accessible in) the subclasses I won't require that a stream be passed into CompositeNode (its format should be irrelevant to the caller) The previous iteration had the value calculation in the base class as a separate protected method, which I then just called at the end of each subtype constructor, moved the body of GenerateRaw () into a using statement in the body of the CompositeNode constructor. But the repetition of requiring that call for each constructor and not being able to guarantee that it be run for every subtype ever (a Node is not a Node, semantically, without these properties initialized) gave me heebie-jeebies far worse than the (potential) resource leak here does.

• Cocoa : Scale Image dragged into an ImageWell

  I am working on application to keep a comic book collection in order. The user should be able to drag an image of the cover artwork into the program via an ImageWell. Since it is not possible to drag the image out of the application again I don't need to save the picture in it's original size. An image at the size of the ImageWell would be just fine. The question is how do I rescale the image with my application? To make things even more complicated the ImageWell is bound with Core Data. So I need to rescale the image before Core Data will save the picture in its original size.

  I know that with Network Load Balancing and Failover Clusteringwe can make passive services highly available. But what about active apps? Example: One of my apps retrieves some content from a external resource in a fixed interval. I have imagined the following scenarios: Run it in a single machine. Problem: if this instance falls, the content won't be retrieved Run it in each machine of the cluster. Problem: the content will be retrieved multiple times Have it in each machine of the cluster, but run it only in one of them. Each instance will have to check some sort of common resource to decide whether it its turn to do the task or not. When I was thinking about the solution #3 I have wondered what should be the common resource. I have thought of creating a table in the database, where we could use it to get a global lock. Is this the best solution? How does people usually do this? By the way it's a C# .NET WCF app running on Windows Server 2008

• Jquery problem - cant expand the row above in a table

  Hi People, What I cant figure out is how I would toggle a row in a table using the one below it. So say I have a table with 2 rows the first contains content and the one below contains a button, when the page loads the content row is hidden and when you click the button it toggles the content row on and off. Later it read using file handle 256. So what's the point to duplicate the file handle? • Restoring web session in struts2

  Hi, I have a classical scenario of a website and payment gateway integration, where the request for payment is sent to payment processor, and the payment processor calls back my application once it's done with some parameters I passed to it in the original request. Among parameters, we pass jsessionid and we expect that when the remote server makes request to our server (via customer browser redirect to our server) that the session will be the same as the session used to send the initial payment request. This does not happen, we have two different sessions, although the payment processor includes our original jsessionid in the request to us (https://blabla/?jsessionid=something). How should we go about recreating a session in struts2, in the only thing that connects the 'OLD' and 'NEW' session is the jsessionid in the request URL? Any ideas? Is this possible at all or is the 'OLD' session data deleted when the user moves away from our server onto a completely different domain of a payment processor with their data-entry form? This would explain our innability to recreate the session. Thanks a lot for your replies.

• Trying to find a PHP5 API-based embeddable CMS

  I've been making the rounds for a CMS that I can use as an API, in a sort of "embedded" mode. I mean by this that I don't want the CMS to do any logic or presentation. I want it to be used as an API, which I can then use within an existing site. I don't want to be tied to the architecture of the CMS. A good example of this is NC-CMS (http://www.nconsulting.ca/nc-cms/). All it needs is an include at the top, then wherever editable content is desired it's only a function call with a unique label. It's also perfect in the sense that it allows to differentiate between small strings (like titles, labels) and texts (which require a rich-text editor). It's the only CMS I found that fits this description, but it is a little too light as it does not handle site structure. I need to be able to allow my client to add pages, choosing an existing template for the layout. A minimal back-end is required. Wordpress also fits some requirements in that it handles only content editing and allows freedom for the themes by letting them call the content where and how they want it. But it is article-based and backwards, in that it embeds sites (as themes) within its structure, rather than being embeddable in sites like NC. It's funny how checking out all the CMS out there, almost all of them claim that most CMS are not self-sufficient, that they do not handle application logic, while (almost) every single on I found with only one exception do so. Many are mostly article-based blog engines, which does not fit my need. I would appreciate any CMS that fits the general description.

• Visual Studio macro to navigate to T4MVC link

  I use T4MVC and I'm happy with it and want to keep it - it keeps down run time defects. Unfortunately, it makes it harder to navigate to views and content (a.k.a. Views and Links in T4MVC) though. Even using Resharper, I can't navigate to the referenced item: T4MVC and Resharper Navigation Can I get a hand building a macro to do this? Never having built a VS IDE macro before, I don't have a grasp on how to get at some things, like the internal results of the "Go To Definition" process, if that's even possible. If you aren't familiar with T4MVC, here's generally what the macro might do to help: Given the token: Links.Content.Scripts.jQuery_js in the file MyView.cshtml, '(F12) Go To Definition'. This behaves properly. Having arrived at the the related assignment: public readonly string jQuery_js = "~/Content/Scripts/jQuery.js"; in a file generated by T4MVC (which is very nice, thank you David, but we really don't ever need to see), capture the string assigned and close the file. Navigate in Solution Explorer to the PhysicalPath represented by the captured string. This process would also work for views/layouts/master-pages/partials, etc. If you provide a macro or link to a macro to do this, or have another solution, wonderful. Otherwise, hints on how to do step 3 simply in a VS macro would be especially appreciated and receive upvote from me. I'd post the macro back here as an answer when done. Thanks!

• ASP.NET MVC2 and Browser Caching

  Hi I have a web application that fetches a lot of content via ajax. For example when a user edits some data, the browser will send the changes using an ajax post and then do an ajax get to get fresh content and replace an existing div on the page with that content. This was working just find with MVC1, but in MVC2 I would get inconsistent results. I've found that MVC1 by default included an Expires item in the response headers set to the current time, but in MVC2 the Expires header is missing. This is a problem with some browsers (IE8) actually using the cached version of the ajax get instead of the fresh version. To deal with the problem I created a simple ActionFilterAttribute that sets the reponse cache to NoCache (see below), which works, but it seems kind of sillly to decorate every controller with this attribute. Is there a global way to set this for every controller? Is this a bug in MVC2 and it really should be setting the expires on every ActionResult/view/page? Don't most MVC programs deal with data entry where stale data is a very bad thing? • JQuery UI Tabs - replace tab and contents

  What is the best way to replace the currently selected tab and its contents? The content is dynamically generated with jquery, not loaded via a URL. I need to do this from outside of any tab code or tab event handler (show, add, etc.). There is a link elsewhere on the page that should do the following when clicked: Change the tab's title Change the tab's className Clear out all elements of the tabcontent div Change the tabcontent div's className Generate new content inside the tabcontent div Note that the only reference this link's click() handler has is to the JQuery tabs object ($Tabs). I can get the selected tab with $Tabs.tabs('option','selected'). But how can I get a reference to the selected tab's tab and panel? Inside of a jquery tab handler (show, add, etc.), I have access to ui.tab and ui.panel, but is there a way to get them from a tabs option? Would it be better to simply remove the currently selected tab and then add a new tab in the same index location? I'd have to put the code to generate the tab content into the add() handler then I suppose.

  Hello, I have a single spool mbox file that was created with evolution, containing a selection of emails that I wish to print. My problem is that the emails are not placed into the mbox file chronologically. I would like to know the best way to place order the files from first to last using bash, perl or python. I would like to oder by received for files addressed to me, and sent for files sent by me. Would it perhaps be easier to use maildir files or such?   I am working on an app that is not core data based - the data feed is a series of web services. Two arrays are created from the data feed. The first holds season data, each array object being an NSDictionary. Two of the NSDictionary entries hold the data to be displayed in the popup ('seasonName') and an id ('seasonID') that acts as a pointer (in an external table) by matches defined for that season. The second array is also a collection of NSDictionaries. Two of the entries hold the data to be displayed in the popup ('matchDescription') and the id ('matchSeasonId') that points to the seasonId defined in the NSDictionaries in first array. I have two NSPopUps. I want the first to display the season names and the second to display the matches defined for that season, depending on the selection in the first. I'm new at bindings, so excuse me if I've missed something obvious. I've tried using ArrayControllers as follows: SeasonsArrayController: content bound to appDelegate seasonsPopUpArrayData. seasonsPopup: content bound to SeasonsArrayController.arrangedObjects; content value bound to SeasonsArrayController.arrangedObjects.seasonName I see the season names fine. I can obviously follow a similar route to see the matches, but I then see them all, instead of restricting the list to the matches for the season highlighted. All the tutorials I can find seem to revolve around core data and utilise the relationships defined therein. I don't have that luxury here. Any help very gratefully received.

  Hello, I want to know why the flash movie in the header located here: http://www.dolphintemplate.com/demo/dolphin7/index.php?skin=dt_firestarter_red only loads in Firefox but NOT in IE and Chrome.. • First test of a Windows Phone application

  I downloaded the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and I wrote a simple application to make a first test of the emulator. In this application I have only a button with the property Content binded to a string called ButtonText and with the property Background binded to a SolidColorBrush named FillColor. I handled the Click event with this code: void MyButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (toggle == true) { ButtonText = "Blue"; FillColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Blue); } else { ButtonText = "Red"; FillColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Red); } toggle = !toggle; } Unfortunately this doesn't work. While the Content of the Button changes each time the button is pressed, I cannot say the same for the Background which remains at the same color. Could you tell me what is wrong? Thank you. • How to make scipy.interpolate give a an extrapolated result beyond the input range?

  I'm trying to port a program which uses a hand-rolled interpolator (developed by a mathematitian colleage) over to use the interpolators provided by scipy. I'd like to use or wrap the scipy interpolator so that it has as close as possible behavior to the old interpolator. A key difference between the two functions is that in our original interpolator - if the input value is above or below the input range, our original interpolator will extrapolate the result. If you try this with the scipy interpolator it raises a ValueError. Consider this program as an example: import numpy as np from scipy import interpolate x = np.arange(0,10) y = np.exp(-x/3.0) f = interpolate.interp1d(x, y) print f(9) print f(11) # Causes ValueError, because it's greater than max(x) Is there a sensible way to make it so that instead of crashing, the final line will simply do a linear extrapolate, continuing the gradients defined by the first and last two pouints to infinity. Note, that in the real software I'm not actually using the exp function - that's here for illustration only!
