• C Remove the first line from a text file without rewriting file

  Hi, I've got a service which runs all the time and also keeps a log file. It basically adds new lines to the log file every few seconds. I'm written a small file which reads these lines and then parses them to various actions. The question I have is how can I delete the lines which I have already parsed from the log file without disrupting the writing of the log file by the service? Usually when I need to delete a line in a file then I open the original one and a temporary one and then I just write all the lines to the temp file except the original which I want to delete. Obviously this method will not word here. So how do I go about deleting them ?

• How to change the view if I am not present in the viewController class?

  I am doing an app with about 6-7 views and their corresponding controllers. I am in a view with a toolbar and button. When I click this button a popup view comes and my control is being moved to the popup view's Controller. But my view is still the same. From this popupview Controller's class, I want to change my original view. But since I am not in my original viewControllers class, I am not able to change it. How can I overcome this? Can anyone plz help me?

• How can data templates in generic.xaml get applied automatically?

  I have a custom control that has a ContentPresenter that will have an arbitrary object set as it content. This object does not have any constraint on its type, so I want this control to display its content based on any data templates defined by application or by data templates defined in Generic.xaml. If in a application I define some data template(without a key because I want it to be applied automatically to objects of that type) and I use the custom control bound to an object of that type, the data template gets applied automatically. But I have some data templates defined for some types in the generic.xaml where I define the custom control style, and these templates are not getting applied automatically. Here is the generic.xaml : If I set an object of type 'PredefinedType' as the content in the contentpresenter, the data template does not get applied. However, If it works if I define the data template in the app.xaml for the application thats using the custom control. Does someone got a clue? I really cant assume that the user of the control will define this data template, so I need some way to tie it up with the custom control.

• Python 2.6 does not like appending to existing archives in zip files

  Hello, In some Python unit tests of a program I'm working on we use in-memory zipfiles for end to end tests. In SetUp() we create a simple zip file, but in some tests we want to overwrite some archives. For this we do "zip.writestr(archive_name, zip.read(archive_name) + new_content)". Something like import zipfile from StringIO import StringIO def Foo(): zfile = StringIO() zip = zipfile.ZipFile(zfile, 'a') zip.writestr( "foo", "foo content") zip.writestr( "bar", "bar content") zip.writestr( "foo", zip.read("foo") + "some more foo content") print zip.read("bar") Foo() The problem is that this works fine in Python 2.4 and 2.5, but not 2.6. In Python 2.6 this fails on the print line with "BadZipfile: File name in directory "bar" and header "foo" differ." It seems that it is reading the correct file bar, but that it thinks it should be reading foo instead. I'm at a loss. What am I doing wrong? Is this not supported? I tried searching the web but could find no mention of similar problems. I read the zipfile documentation, but could not find anything (that I thought was) relevant, especially since I'm calling read() with the filename string. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Anybody has any ideas on what's going on here?

  Hello, I am writting program for my iphone and have a qestion. lets say i have class named my_obj class my_obj { NSString *name; NSinteger *id; NSinteger *foo; NSString *boo; } now i allocate 100 objects from type my_obj and insert them to array from type NSArray. then i want to sort the Array in two different ways. one by the name and the second by the id. i want to allocate another two arrays from type NSArray *arraySortByName *arraySortById what i need to do if i just want the sorted arrays to be referenced to the original array so i will get two sorted arrays that point to the original array (that didnt changed!) i other word i dont want to allocate another 100 objects to each sorted array.

• Jquery animate negative top and back to 0 - starts messing up after 3rd click

  The site in question is this one: http://www.pickmixmagazine.com/wordpress/ When you click on one of the posts (any of the boxes) an iframe will slide down from the top with the content in it. Once the "Home" button in the top left hand corner of the iframe is clicked, the iframe slides back up. This works perfectly the first 2 times, on the 3rd click on of a post, the content will slide down, but when the home button is clicked, the content slides back up normally but once it has slid all the way up to the position it should be in, the iframe drops straight back down to where it was before the home button was clicked, I click it again and then it works. • Stretch ListBox Items hit area to full width if the ListBox?

  I've looked around for an answer on this, but the potential duplicates are more concerned with presentation than interaction. I have a basic list box, and each item's content is a simple string. The ListBox itself is stretched to fill it's grid container, but each ListBoxItem's hitarea does not mirror the ListBox width. It looks as if the hitarea (pointer contact area) for each item is only the width of the text content. How do I make this stretch all the way across, regardless of the text size. I've set HorizontalContentAlignment to Stretch, but this doesn't solve my problem. My only other guess is that the content is actually stretching, but the background is invisible and so not capturing the mouse pointer. <ListBox Grid.Row="1" x:Name="ProjectsListBox" DisplayMemberPath="Name" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Projects}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedProject}" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch"/> The XAML is pretty straight forward on this. If I mouse over the text in one of the items, then the entire width of the item becomes active. I guess I just need to know how to create an interactive background that is invisible.

• Is SHA sufficient for checking file duplication? (sha1_file in PHP)

  Suppose you wanted to make a file hosting site for people to upload their files and send a link to their friends to retrieve it later and you want to insure files are duplicated where we store them, is PHP's sha1_file good enough for the task? Is there any reason to not use md5_file instead? For the frontend, it'll be obscured using the original file name store in a database but some additional concerns would be if this would reveal anything about the original poster. Does a file inherit any meta information with it like last modified or who posted it or is this stuff based in the file system? Also, is using a salt frivolous since security in regards of rainbow table attack mean nothing to this and the hash could later be used as a checksum? One last thing, scalability? initially, it's only going to be used for small files a couple of megs big but eventually... Edit 1: The point of the hash is primarily to avoid file duplication, not to create obscurity.

  I'm developing in Google App Engine (python sdk) and I want to use jQuery to send an Ajax request to store an answer to a question. What is the best way to send this data to the server? But on the server-side, I'm unable to access the content of the answer control which I want to store. Without Ajax, I'm able to perform this operation with the following: class StoreAnswers(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): question_id = self.request.get("question_id") answer_text = self.request.get("input_answer" + question_id) But when doing this call through Ajax, my answer_text is empty. Do I need to send the contents of this control as part of the data with the Ajax request? Do I add the control itself to the query string? Its contents? Does it matter that the content might be a few hundred characters long? Is this the most-recommended practice? If sending it as a query string, what's the best way to escape the content so that a malicious user doesn't harm the system?

• CodeIgniter - the right way to create "block" elements on web page

  Hello. I've been searching for a solutions for this problem a while but haven't seen any "valid mvc" solution for this. I hope I can explain my problem clearly enough for you guys. I need to create a dynamic block of HTML on my website. (eg. a block containing user's latest blog comments). I have a template view file (a file containing header, content container and a footer) where I need to add some content AND this block element. The problem is that I don't want to duplicate this block code on every controller. It just feels stupid and I'm sure there's a better way to do this than just duplicating same stuff all over again on all the controller files? I can add view inside another view just fine, but what bugs me is how to actually generate that dynamic content to this block's view-file. I can't call controller from view file, controller from controller filem or model from view file because what I understand that just isn't the "mvc" way? Anyone got any tricks or tips for this?

• Javascript Replace Child/Loop issue

  I have this really bizarre issue where I have a forloop that is supposed to replace all divs with the class of "original" to text inputs with a class of "new". When I run the loop, it only replaces every-other div with an input, but if I run the loop to just replace the class of the div and not change the tag to input, it does every single div, and doesn't only do every-other.   I am storing documents in sql server in varbinary(max) fileds, I use filestream optionally when a user has: (DB_Size + Docs_Size) ~> 0.8 * ExpressEdition_Max_DB_Size I am currently zipping all the files, anyway this is done because the Document Read/Write work was developed 10 years ago where Storage was more expensive than now. Many files when zipped are almost as big as the original (a zipped pdf is about 95% of original size). And anyway unzipping has some overhead, that becomes twice when I need also to "Check-in"/Update the file because I need to zip it. So I was thinking of giving to the users the option to choose whether the file type will be zipped or not by providing some meaningful default values. For my experience I would impose the following rules: 1) zip by default: txt, bmp, rtf 2) do not zip by default: jpg, jpeg, Microsoft Office files, Open Office files, png, tif, tiff Could you suggest other file types chosen among the most common or comment on the ones I listed here?

• Send SOAP via curl

  Hi. This has been bugging me for days, i'm trying to send a SOAP post via curl but i just keep getting a 'couldn't connect to host' error but i really cant see how. I have an asp version which works fine with the same url and data, i think it's just a php/curl thing...? • Reading HTML header info of files via JS

  I have a product list that is generated in ASP. I have product descriptions for each product in an HTML file. Each HTML file is named: <product.id>.html. Each HTML file size is only 1-3 kb. Within the HTML file is <title> and <meta name="description" content="..." />. I want to access these in an efficient way so that I can output this as e.g.: document.write(<product.id>.html.title);<br/> document.write(<product.id>.html.description); I have a working solution for the individual products, where I use the description file - but I hope to find a more efficient / simple approach. Preferably, I want to avoid having 30+ hidden iframes - Google might think that I am trying to tamper with search result and blacklist my page. • Salesforce/PHP - outbound messages (SOAP) - memory limit issue? DOMDocument::loadXML() issue?

  I'm using Salesforce to send outbound messages (via SOAP) to another server. The server can process about 8 messages at a time, but will not send back the ACK file if the SOAP request contains more than 8 messages. SF can send up to 100 outbound messages in 1 SOAP request and I think this is causing a memory issue with PHP. If I process the outbound messages 1 by 1 they all go through fine, I can even do 8 at a time with no issues. But larger sets are not working. ERROR in SF: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file Looking in the HTTP error logs I see that the incoming SOAP message looks to be getting cut of which throws a PHP warning stating: DOMDocument::loadXML() ... Premature end of data in tag ... PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function getAttribute() on a non-object This leads me to believe that PHP is having a memory issue and can not parse the incoming message due to it's size. I was thinking I could just set: ini_set('memory_limit', '64M'); // This has done nothing to fix the problem But would this be the correct approach? Is there a way I could set this to increase with the incoming SOAP request dynamically?
