  first of all: I don't use stackadmin or similar so please don't vote for moving there, I'm reading man top and paper "what every programmer should know about memory ..." • Server redirect

  I have asp.net app XYZ which requires SSL. I am supposed to work with IIS that has only one Web Site - DefaultWebSite - containing multiple apps and virtual directories (3rd party). So, my app is located at domain.com/XYZ. I have to meet these conditions: 1.) requesting DefaultWebSite (domain.com) will run my app. It could redirect to ../XYZ, but I would rather not to. If it has to be done this way, requesting DefaultWebSite or my app over both HTTP and HTTPS will always ends up with redirecting to https://domain.com/XYZ 2.) I can't touch any other apps or virtual directories, can't create additional Web Site, can't set DefaultWebSite to require SSL, ... EDIT: 3.) transmitted data (GET or POST) must be preserved I tried to: set Web Site root directory to my app, but it this caused other apps to crash because of my Web.config (not sure why). set up HTTP redirect on DefaultWebSite to https://domain.com/XYZ. This seems to work correctly, but this doesn't work if user requests my app directly (redirected to domain.com/XYZ/XYZ, or redirect loop). set up Default Document, but this seems to work only if it is located in the Web Site root directory. I know I could write simple .aspx with Response.Redirect, but... is there any better solution? Am I missing something?

• Expanding raidz vdev

  I'm currently planning on installing FreeBSD 9 on my home server. The machine has 4x 1.5TB disks, and at some point, when HDD prices drop I'll be upgrading to something bigger, perhaps 3TB. The disks are connected to an IBM ServerRaid m1015 in IT mode, this card has room for up to eight disks. Now here is the problem, currently the 4x 1.5TB will be connected to the m1015. Then when prices drop I'll be adding something like 4x 3TB, also connected to the m1015. No problem yet, I can just run 2 raidz2 vdevs and put them in the same pool. But, at some point the 1.5TBs will start to break, or I will have to upgrade them when the pool runs out of space. So I started researching if it's possible to expand a raidz vdev, and I found several pages explaining the same procedure, like this on SF: How to upgrade a ZFS RAID-Z array to larger disks on OpenSolaris?. So I went a head and tried that in vmware, I installed FreeBSD 9 and created 6 virtual disks, 3 of 1GB each and 3 of 10GB each. After building a raidz vdev of the 1GBs I replaced them one by one with the 10GB, but the pool did not increase in size. Is this a limitation of the ZFS implementation in FreeBSD? Or am I just doing something wrong?

• apache front-end rewriting URL to different https ports?

  Hi all, One of my users is having some trouble with forwarding to an internal web app from a public address. Everything worked fine for him when the situation was like this: front page: http://www.myexample.com/ public ref to internal app: http://www.example.com/app-8903/app.html secretly goes to: http://secret.example.com:8903/app-8903/app.html This is to say, my user is providing the very last URL, with the port information duplicated in the URL base, and they were using that to give a public face that hid both the port and the internal machine name. You could still read the port in the URL base if you looked, but the obvious reference and machine name were hidden. Doing it this way, he could have several different instances of the application running on secret.example.com with different ports, and on the front end it just looked like it was changing the URL directory/base. Now the user wants to do the same thing over https:, and the people helping him with apache config say it can't be done. Is that so? Without being there to tinker with the configuration myself, I'm not sure what his IT people have tried, but reading through the apache2 SSL FAQ and other docs, it seems like it should be possible to rewrite URLs to different ports and still use https:.

• Too many connections to Sql Server 2008

  I have an application in C# Framework 4.0. Like many app this one connects to a data base to get information. In my case this database is SqlServer 2008 Express. The database is in my machine In my data layer I’m using Enterprise Library 5.0 When I publish my app in my local machine (App Pool Classic) Windows Professional IIS 7.5 The application works fine. I’m using this query to check the number of connections my application is creating when I’m testing it. SELECT db_name(dbid) as DatabaseName, count(dbid) as NoOfConnections, loginame as LoginName FROM sys.sysprocesses WHERE dbid > 0 AND db_name(dbid) = 'MyDataBase' GROUP BY dbid, loginame When I start testing the number of connection start growing but at some point the max number of connection is 26. I think that’s ok because the app works When I publish the app to TestMachine1 • XP Mode Virtual Machine (Windows XP Professional) • IIS 5.1 It works fine, the behavior is the same, the number of connections to the database increment to 24 or 26, after that they stay at that point no matter what I do in the application. The problem: When I publish to TestMachine2 (App Pool Classic) • Windows Server 2008 R2 • IIS 7.5 I start to test the application the number of connection to the database start to grow but this time they grow very rapidly and don’t stop growing at 24 or 26, the number of connections grow till the get to be 100 and the application stop working at that point. I have check for any difference on the publications, especially in Windows Professional and Windows Server and they seem with the same parameters and configurations. Any clues why this could be happening? , any suggestions?

• Two Way Sync of folder on PC to USB Thumb Drive over the internet.

Thanks Im looking for an app that will let me automatically sync a usb drive with a folder on my home system over the internet. I would like to roam from computer to computer and run this syncing app from the usb drive. Im looking for the same functionally as DropBox but without the 2gb restriction and without the need to fully install. Two Way sync between a usb drive and pc over the net Utilizes the full size of the usb drive not limited by an online storage size. (I dont need online backup or versioning) Allows the removal of the usb drive, Plugging it in to another computer will resume its sync. While the drive is connected the app should run silently keeping changed files in sync. (I dont want to run a manual process other than simply starting the app) Must be able to run as a portable app from the usb drive but can fully install on home pc. Window 7 Support is preferable. Please let me know if such and awesome app exists. TIA!

This app is on a public computer that's easily accessible and anyone can easily copy the .EXE and .CONFIG of my app into another machine and start using it. • Drawing performance with CGImageCreateWithJPEGDataProvider?

  I've actually curious about this for the iPhone. I am getting an MJPEG stream from a server and trying to render it natively on the iphone (without the use of safari class). Reasons for this is because the safari class while CAN render MJPEG natively, does not do so at the framerate I would like. So I tried drawing it natively, but I've come up with performance issues, namely a syncing issue between what I'm getting from the server and what I am able to draw onto the screen of the phone. (There should be a little lag, but the drift gets really bad, which is what I want to avoid). So I have a connection set up to my server and I do get the JPEGS.   I am trying to add the Parsekit framework to my OSX Xcode project. I've never added a 3rd party framework before and I can't get it to work right. I dragged the included Xcode project into my 'Groups & Files' pane and chose to Add it to my project. I then dragged Parsekit.framework underneath the Link Binary With Libraries heading. Then I double-clicked my target app and added Parsekit as a Direct Dependency. I also added libicucore.dylib as a Linked Library (as it says to do this on their site). Finally, in the Build settings tab of my target info I set the Header Search Paths to /Users/path/to/include/directory and the Other Linker Flags to -ObjC -all_load. Running this as a debug build work fine with no errors. However, when I build my app to release and then try to run the executable created, the app fails to load with the following error message: MyApp cannot be opened because of a problem.   Hi, I am changing the image in UIImageView based on accelerometer input. The images are stored in an array. The application runs fine for a while and then crashes. warning: check_safe_call: could not restore current frame I am not using "UIImage ImageNamed" method when populating the array. The total size of all images is around 12 Mb. But individual images are very light (<100 kb) and i am using only one image at a time from the array. Just in case there are any autoreleases, I have allocated a NSAutoreleasePool in view did load and am draining it in the didReceiveMemoryWarning method (which does get called 2, 3 times before the app crashes?).   I'm using Executors.newScheduledThreadPool() to create a ScheduledExecutorService, specifying the number of threads like so: int corePoolSize = 42; ScheduledExecutorService foo = Executors.newScheduledThreadPool(corePoolSize); According to the JavaDocs, the corePoolSize argument sets the number of threads to keep in the pool, even if they are idle. Does this mean that this ExecutorService implementation may create more than corePoolSize threads as needed, similar to a cached thread pool?

• Settings.bundle Not Appearing on Application Updates

On a fresh install, the settings are added to the Setting App as expected, but upon updating from the old install, the bundle is not added.
