  • Run script when shutting down ubuntu before the logged in user is logged out

    I'm writing a script to backup some local directories on a unix machine (Ubuntu) to a samba drive. The script works fine and I've got it running at shutdown and restart using the method described at http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3348-ubuntu-executing-a-script-at-startup-and-shutdown It works by placing the backup script into the /etc/rc6.d and /etc/rc0.d directories. However there is a problem. After looking at the scripts logfile it seems to be run after the user is logged out. We are using LDAP authentication and when the user logs out, the system cannot backup to their samba share. Does anyone know of anyway to run the script before the user is logged out?

  • Web based interface for open SSL client certificates

    Hi there! We are currently developing a apache2-based web application and want to invite some beta testers to give it a try. To be on the safe side, access should be provided by individual browser certificates (.p12) which are issued using a (fake) CA. Our users should be passing a complete register/login process and some of them will be granted administrative privileges within the application. That's why a preceding simple web-based authentication won't be sufficient. Atm, I am using a serverside shellscript to generate the certificates each time. Do you know about a small, web-based tool to simplify the process of generating / revoking those certificates? Maybe an overview of the CA's index.txt plus the option to revoke a cert and a link to download them directly?

    Our small business currently has 3 wireless access points around the building, each with their own SSID. Security is done with WEP (ick) and MAC address filtering (double ick). We are trying to reconfigure the setup, with these goals: wifi roaming between the access points user-based authentication that isn't as annoying as MAC address filtering. 1) The entire building is hardwired with ethernet, so I assume it should be easy to set up the routers to act as one big network, but I can't figure out how. Can someone point me in the right direction? The routers are consumer-grade linksys routers, is it possible to do this without getting new hardware? 2) For security, we will probably upgrade to WPA2, and I'm thinking of using the Enterprise version so that users can log in with a username, instead of having a single key (so if an employee leaves or something, their access can be removed). We have several on-site Windows servers, can one of them be set up as a RADIUS server, or is that best left to a dedicated machine (again, using existing hardware is good).

I'm trying to separate the data from the view, so that I can also use that data to feed into an OpenLayers map (using GeoExt). How can I point a TreePanel to an Ext.data.Store rather than to a URL?

    I wanted to run a script on a remote machine. The simple solution is this: ssh remote1 some-script This works until the remote script doesn't want to connect to another remote machine (remote2) which requires interactive authentication, like tis one (remote2 is only reachable through remote1 in this case): ssh remote1 "ssh remote2 some-script" The solution for the problem is to use the -t option for ssh. ssh -t remote1 "ssh remote2 some-script" This works, but I get probems in case I use this (where some-script may execute further ssh commands): ssh -t remote1 some-script I found that some environment variables are not set which are set when I don't use the -t option. These envrionment variables are set in scripts from /etc/profile.d. I guess that these scripts are not run for some reason if using the -t option, but are run if I don't use it. What's the reason of this? Is there any way to work around it? I am using SUSE linux (version 10).

    im new to LDAP. i wonder what are some concrete examples of using LDAP. things that are MUCH more easier to do when you got 3-7 linux computers in a small company network. one use that is very important for me seems to be that you configure LDAP to handle system authentication. then you dont have to create same accounts in all computers. are there other things that are a MUST DO for a small network to save more time? my small network is for apache servers and database servers. and should LDAP be in an own machine? cause i guess its not good to put it in apache or database servers since these are performance dependent.

  • Is there a way to correct wrongly typed password / abort the operation while on password prompt in the console in MINGW32?

    I sometimes mistype a password when being asked for it, e.g. by Git when pushing to remote repository. The password is not displayed (even masked as asterisks) in the console. Is there a way either to correct the password, or to abort the operation? Backspace for editing and CtrlC for aborting do not seem to work. I want to save some time instead of waiting for the remote authentication to fail, or providing a bad password, then Enter, CtrlC. Edit: Unfortunately CtrlU doesn't work for me (MINGW32 @ Windows XP). Any other guesses?

  • Redmine Subversion: LDAP _and_ local auth

    I need to set up a subversion repository with apache authentication against both an external LDAP server as well as the local Redmine database. That is, we have users whose accounts exist only in the LDAP directory and some users whose accounts only exist in the local Redmine db - all should be able to access the repo. I can't quite seem to get the apache config right for this. I know I saw a how-to for this at some point, I think using Redmine.pm, but I can't seem to find it anymore.. Thanks.

  • Does Hibernate always need a setter when there is a getter?

    We have some Hibernate getter methods annotated with both @Column and @Basic. We get an exception if we don't have the corresponding setter. Why is this? In our case we are deriving the value returned from the getter (to get stored in the DB) and the setter has no functional purpose. So we just have an empty method to get around the error condition..

  • Generating custom-form documents from base-form plus XML?

    Hi all, this is my first stack overflow, and it's a complex one. Sorry. My task is to generate custom documents from a basic template plus some XML without having a custom form design element for each case. Here's the whole picture: We are building a Lotus Notes (client, not web) application for world-wide application access control; the scope is something like 400.000 users being able to request access to any of 1000+ applications. Each application needs its own request form -- different number of approvers, various info required, that sort of thing. We simply can't have a thousand forms in a database (one per application), and anyway their maintenance really needs to be pushed from the developers to the application owners. So instead of custom forms, we'd like to create a generic "template" form that stores a block of basic fields, but then allows application owners to define another block of fields dynamically -- "I want a mandatory plain-text field named 'Name' here, and then a date field named 'Due' here that must be later than today's date, and then ...". I hope this makes sense (if not, think of it as a generic questionnaire application). I pretty much have the structure in place for designing the dynamic fields (form builder GUI - XML-encoded data - pre-rendered DXL for injecting into a form), including mark-up for field types, value options, and rudimentary field validation instructions. My problem is generating a document with this dynamic content injected at the proper location (without needing a custom form design element for each case). Doing the dynamic content via HTML is out. The Notes client web rendering is simply way too poor, and it would be quite a challenge to implement things like field validation instructions, date selectors, and name look-ups. DXL, on the other hand, would allow us to use native Notes fields and code. As a tech demo, I've managed to implement a custom form generator that injects the pre-rendered DXL for the dynamic content into a base form; but as I said, we don't want a ton of custom form design elements. I've tried to implement a way to create a document with the "store form in document" flag set, but once I've created the document from the base form, I can't get DXL access to the stored form design, and so I can't inject my dynamic content. I know this is not something Notes was ever intended to do. Has anyone ever tried something like it (and gotten away with it)? Thanks for reading this far.     Well i'm totaly lost here, i am using jquery ui sliderwidget to make this quite simple menu but i just can't figure out a basic formula to make menu items slide along with with scroll bar.
