  • Cannot submit form when disabling JSF page

    Simple submit button. <h:commandButton actionListener="#{regBean.findReg}" action="#{regBean.navigate}" value="Search" /> The form tag is displayed like so: <h:form onsubmit="this.disabled=true;busyProcess();return true;"> This is so if the submit button is pressed, the page shows a "busy" icon until request is processed. The problem is, the request is never submitted and it never reaches the backend. However, if I instead take out the "disabled" call like so: <h:form onsubmit="busyProcess();return true;"> Everything works. Any ideas?

  • Setting zoom level on mobile browser

    I am designing website for mobile access and I want to set page width, height and button sizes, so they display filling up the screen. For example if user is using HTC HD , the whole screen would be 480x800 with button sized 240x200. However IE mobile as well as Opera load the page with some zoom level, so the buttons display either too large or too small. How can I either read current zoom level in javascript or set it from javascript?

I open all .js files on Dokuwiki, search for "$(" and replace it with "$DW(", and it works like a charms, but I had to deal with every Dokuwiki plugins that has javascript in it. So, how to alter "$" in prototype libaries/ Dokuwiki?

    I'm making html widget for websites. Let's say, it will display current stock indexes. In short, arbitrary website owner takes code snippet from me and includes it on his webpage http://website.com/index.html. When arbitrary user opens http://website.com/index.html, my code sends request to my server (provider.com), which performs necessary operations and returns information to user's browser. When response has arrived, user will see relevant stock value on http://website.com/index.html. In index.html service could be called like this <script type="text/javascript" src="provider.com/service.js"> </script> <div id="target_area"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> service.show("target_area", options); </script> Now, the problem is in the same origin policy: I can't just send ajax request from website.com to provided.com and return html to embed in client's webpage. I see several solutions, which I list below, but none quite satisfy me. I wonder, if you could suggest something, especially if you had some relevant experience. 1) iframe, plain and simple. Disadvantage: must have fixed dimensions + stupid scroll bars appearing in some browsers. Can be fixed with javascript, but all this browser-specific tinkering doesn't sound good to me. 2) JSONP. Problem: can't return whole chunk of html, must return only data. Then, on browser side, I'll have to use javascript to embed data into html snippet placed statically in index.html. Doesn't sound nice, because data format is not very simple and may even change later. 3) Use hidden iframe to do ajax requests. A bit tricky, but sounds like a way to go. Well, that's my thoughts on the subject. Are there any better ways? BTW, I tried to check some existing widgets too, but didn't find much useful information. All domain names used in this text are fictional and any resemblance is purely coincidental :)

  • Converting Straight Quotes to Curly Quotes

    I have an application which uses a javascript based rules engine. I need a way to convert regular straight quotes into curl (or smart) quotes. It'd be easy to just do a string.replace for ["], only this will only insert one case of the curly quote. The best way I could think of was replace the first occurrence of a quote with a left curly quote and every other one following with a left, and the rest right curly. Is there a way to accomplish this using javascript?

  • Do any JS implementations currently support (or have support on the roadmap for) fast, vectorized op

    I'd like to do a bit of matrix/vector arithmetic in JavaScript, and was wondering if any browsers or other JS implementations actually have support for vectorized operations, for instance for quickly summing the entries of two Arrays (or summing, or whatever). Even if that currently doesn't mean it compiles down to vectorized operations, at least some language support would be nice for when it does get implemented - I'd take the existence of functions or syntax to support it as a step in the right direction. (Understandably, "vectorization javascript" searches are pretty much all about graphics and SVG.)

  • Would Like Multiple Checkboxes to Update World PNG Image Using Mogrify to FloodFill Countries With C

    Hi. I'm seeing in another forum if the best way to do this is with Javascript or Ajax but I'm wondering if there is an even easier simpler way. I'm trying to create a web service where users can check which countries they have visited from a list of 175 or so and a World map image would then instantly update with a filled color. There are other similar services, but I'm envisioning mine to be both updating from checks in checkboxes and by clicking on the target country in the displayed image say with an imagemap. Additionally other solutions display all the visited countries in the same color. I would like different colors for different countries or at least for those countries that touch. Eventually I would like to include a feature that enables the choice of which colors to assign countries. I found a Sourceforge project called pwmfccd. It's simply an open source image of the world and the coordinates on the PNG image for all the countries. You can use mogrify from ImageMagick and floodfill to fill the countries with color. I have done this successfully, locally with batch files. My ISP has told me where mogrify is located, basically "/usr/bin/mogrify". I now have a horrendously complicated cgi script which if it worked is set to redraw the world map image with each checkbox. It's here. It also redraws the whole web page with each check. The web page starts here. Of course this is not at all efficient, and I think probably the real way to go is Ajax or Javascript, so that maybe just the image gets changed and redrawn, not the whole web page. Sorry I don't even know the difference between Javascript and Ajax and their relative merits at this point. I suppose you could make just one part of the image update with each check or click on the image instead of even just the image redrawing, but I have never even heard of a hint at being able to do that for irregularly shaped image elements like countries. So I guess an Image map and sister checkbox entries tied to mogrify events redrawing the user's personal copy of the image with an image refresh would be the only way to go. So how do you do this with something other than Javascript or Ajax or is that definitely the way to go and if so, how would you do it? Or can you after all cut up a web based image into irregular puzzle shaped piece which you can redraw individually at will. Thanks in advance for reading and considering answering this post.

  • HTML client-side portable file generation - no external resources or server calls

    I have the following situation: I have set up a series of Cron jobs on an internal company server to run various PHP scripts designed to check data integrity. Each PHP script queries a company database, formats the returned query data into an HTML file containing one or more <tables>, and then mails the HTML file to several client emails as an attachment. From my experience, most of the PHP scripts generate HTML files with only a few tables, however there are a few PHP scripts the create HTML files with around 30 tables. HTML files have been chosen as the distribution format of these scans because HTML makes it easy to view many tables at once in a browser window. I would like to add the functionality for the clients to download a table in the HTML file as a CSV file. I anticipate clients using this feature when they suspect a data integrity issue based on the table data. It would be ideal for them to be able to take the table in question, export the data out to a CSV file, and then study it further. Because need for exporting the data to CSV format is at the discretion of the client, unpredictable as to what table will be under scrutiny, and intermittently used I do not want to create CSV files for every table. Normally creating a CSV file wouldn't be too difficult, using JavaScript/jQuery to preform DOM traversal and generate the CSV file data into a string utilizing a server call or flash library to facilitate the download process; but I have one limiting constraint: The HTML file needs to be "portable." I would like the clients to be able to take their HTML file and preform analysis of the data outside the company intranet. Also it is likely these HTML files will be archived, so making the export functionality "self contained" in the HTML files is a highly desirable feature for the two previous reasons. The "portable" constraint of CSV file generation from a HTML file means: I cannot make a server call. This means ALL the file generation must be done client-side. I want the single HTML file attached to the email to contain all the resources to generate the CSV file. This means I cannot use jQuery or flash libraries to generate the file. I understand, for obvious security reasons, that writing out files to disk using JavaScript isn't supported by any browser. I don't want to create a file without the user knowledge; I would like to generate the file using JavaScript in memory and then prompt the user the "download" the file from memory. I have looked into generating the CSV file as a URI however, according to my research and testing, this approach has a few problems: URIs for files are not supported by IE (See Here) URIs in FireFox saves the file with a random file name and as a .part file As much as it pains me, I can accept the fact the IE<=v9 won't create a URI for files. I would like to create a semi-cross-browser solution in which Chrome, Firefox, and Safari create a URI to download the CSV file after JavaScript DOM traversal compiles the data.   • Event Listener in Google Charts API

    I'm busy using Google Charts in one of my projects to display data in a table. Everything is working great. Except that I need to see what line a user selected once they click a button. This would obviously be done with Javascript, but I've been struggling for days now to no avail.   • Export multiple values from a single Combo Box? (Adobe Acrobat)

I have found two methods to insert items into a combo box: 1) insertItemAt http://www.verypdf.com/document/acrobat-forms-javascript/pg_0048.htm 2) setItems http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9/Acrobat9_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=JS_API_AcroJS.88.748.html but neither method allows two parameters (im always get "missing ) after argument list" error from the Acrobat JavaScript Debugger) Does anyone know of a better solution for this problem?     I want my javascript object to be initialized just once, so each new browser window will not create new data items, new functions, etc... usually we initialize the code at the end of main javascript using load window.addEventListener("load", main.onLoad, false); so once the second browser window opened, the initialization code will start from scratch. However, I would like to re-use the existing object on consequent browsers. Any mechanism that I can use?

I can't seem to find it anymore. Are there any libraries out there that do something like this? What I'm looking for is something like http://clixpy.com/, where you can include some javascript on a page and get videos of what users do.
