  • best way to store list of websites on iphone app

    - by Jonathan
    By best I mean most efficient. So don't go on about subjectiveness. I have a list of websites and I want to store the list on the iphone locally, there must be an URL, title and a small image (like 32x32 max image size). I don't think I should be using CoreData for this. Should I be using a plist?

  • Enums in java compile error

    - by London
    Hi, I'm trying to learn java from bottom up, and I got this great book to read http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0071591060/ca0cc-20 . Now I found example in the book about declaring Enums inside a class but outside any methods so I gave it a shot : Enum CoffeeSize { BIG, HUGE, OVERWHELMING }; In the book its spelled enum and I get this compile message Syntax error, insert ";" to complete BlockStatements Are the Enums that important at all?I mean should I skip it or its possible that I will be using those some day?

  • Where c++ really shines?

    - by pygabriel
    I know C and python, and I'm moving toward another language for learning purposes. My problem is that I like to learn things with something to do (for example contributing to some project or do something amazing, not boring plain algebra). I would like to hear suggestions about the fields in which C++ shines and where I can found interesting programming with C++. (for fields I mean networking/gui programming/algorithms/games ...)

  • How to implement callback functions inside classes (PHP)

    - by sombe
    I need to use a class callback method on an array inside another method (the callback function belongs to the class). class Database { public function escape_string_for_db($string){ return mysql_real_escape_string($string); } public function escape_all_array($array){ return array_filter($array,"$this->escape_string_for_db"); } } Is this the right way to go about that? (I mean, in terms of the second parameter passed to array_filter)

  • Is C really a subset of C++?

    - by Allopen
    What I mean is, can any C code be implemented via C++? Maybe just simply change a compiler? I know C is much more efficient and concise. But despite of these, can C++ used to implement all functions that are implemented by C?

  • Subclassing Cocoa means no subclass ivars in some cases?

    - by Michael
    The question is generally coming from self = [super init]. In case if I'm subclassing NSSomething and in my init's method self = [super init] returns object of different class, does it mean I am not able to have my very own ivars in my subclass, just because self will be pointing to different class? Appreciate if you could bring some examples if my statement is wrong.

  • What Parallel computing APIs take good use of sockets?

    - by Ole Jak
    What Parallel computing APIs take good use of sockets? So my programm uses soskets, what Parallel computing APIs I can use that would help me but will not obligate me to go from sockets to anything else... I mean when we are on claster with some special, not socket infrastructure sistem that API emulates something like socket but uses that infrustructure (so programm peforms much faster then on sockets, but keeps having nice soskets API)

    Hello, I am trying to install the PotionStore on my Mac OS X 10.6 server with Ruby on Rails 3 installed. I'm not too advanced with Ruby on Rails, so this throws me a bit.

  • What is the meaning of client coordinates in SetWindowPos

    - by user1775315
    The documentation for SetWindowPos says the following for the X and Y parameters: X [in] Type: int The new position of the left side of the window, in client coordinates. Y [in] Type: int The new position of the top of the window, in client coordinates. By "client coordinates", does it mean that the parameters specify the position of the client area of the window, or that they specify the position of the window (not the client area) relative to the parent window's client area? Or something else?

  • From a Java programming perspective, what difference does multicast make to a networking program?

    - by pnut butter
    My manager has asked me to assess what changes would be required to add multicast support to a socket-based TCP/IP networking program that is part of a trading system. As far as I can tell, from the perspective of a Java program, it doesn't seem to matter too much whether the program is unicast or multicast. Doesn't the Java networking API make all of this transparent? By this I mean, wouldn't the change be a simple one of simply adding additional destinations for the outgoing connections?
