• What is the difference betweeen "Network install" and "Network Boot" options in virt-manager when installing a new virtual machine

  From my understanding of PXE (Preboot Execution Environment), I know that there must be some negotiation first between the booting client and a DHCP server to obtain network parameters (IP address, etc) in order for the client to be able to fetch the boot loader and kernel image from the boot server. In other words, and aside from being a "virtual" machine, we're talking here about a "bare metal" machine, so there must be some "pre boot" mechanism for those negotiations to take place, and this is exactly what PXE is all about. When I think about the "Network install" option, I can't figure out how the new VM would be able to fetch the boot images (bootloader and kernel) without the previously mentioned mechanism. So, here is a short version of the question: When provisioning a new virtul machine, how do you expect the "Network install" option in virt-manager to work behind the scenes? Many thanks.

• Create an Alias Directory inside a Virtual Host

I guess my search skills are weak. I am using the WampServer version 2.2e. I have a need like, I need a virtual path inside a virtual host. Let me say the two hosts that I have. • Filezilla/Puttygen doesn't recognize private key file

  I have generated a key for an Ubuntu Virtual Machine running on Azure Cloud Services http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/manage/linux/how-to-guides/ssh-into-linux/ openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout myPrivateKey.key -out myCert.pem When loading the private key into Filezilla, it asks me to convert the format, however, when converting the key it fails, the same happens with puttygen from linux console, using this: puttygen myPrivateKey.key -o myKey.ppk In both cases I have the following error: puttygen: error loading `myPrivateKey.key': unrecognised key type By the way, this key doesn't have a passphrase. I found an old thread about it, but I'm using 0.6.3 version which is newer than what this thread recommends: http://fixunix.com/ssh/541874-puttygen-unable-import-openssh-key.html I've managed to solve this issue by using another gui client Fugu for Mac, but one of my co-worker uses windows and I still have to figure this out. Since Filezilla is the de-facto ftp client, I thought it would be easier to solve it there. Thanks

  SQL Transaction Control Language Commands (TCL)                                           (COMMIT) Commit Transaction As a SQL language we use transaction control language very frequently. Committing a transaction means making permanent the changes performed by the SQL statements within the transaction. A transaction is a sequence of SQL statements that Oracle Database treats as a single unit. This statement also erases all save points in the transaction and releases transaction locks. Oracle Database issues an implicit COMMIT before and after any data definition language (DDL) statement. Oracle recommends that you explicitly end every transaction in your application programs with a COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement, including the last transaction, before disconnecting from Oracle Database. If you do not explicitly commit the transaction and the program terminates abnormally, then the last uncommitted transaction is automatically rolled back.   Until you commit a transaction: ·         You can see any changes you have made during the transaction by querying the modified tables, but other users cannot see the changes. After you commit the transaction, the changes are visible to other users' statements that execute after the commit ·         You can roll back (undo) any changes made during the transaction with the ROLLBACK statement   Note: Most of the people think that when we type commit data or changes of what you have made has been written to data files, but this is wrong when you type commit it means that you are saying that your job has been completed and respective verification will be done by oracle engine that means it checks whether your transaction achieved consistency when it finds ok it sends a commit message to the user from log buffer but not from data buffer, so after writing data in log buffer it insists data buffer to write data in to data files, this is how it works.   Before a transaction that modifies data is committed, the following has occurred: ·         Oracle has generated undo information. The undo information contains the old data values changed by the SQL statements of the transaction ·         Oracle has generated redo log entries in the redo log buffer of the System Global Area (SGA). The redo log record contains the change to the data block and the change to the rollback block. These changes may go to disk before a transaction is committed ·         The changes have been made to the database buffers of the SGA. These changes may go to disk before a transaction is committed   Note:   The data changes for a committed transaction, stored in the database buffers of the SGA, are not necessarily written immediately to the data files by the database writer (DBWn) background process. This writing takes place when it is most efficient for the database to do so. It can happen before the transaction commits or, alternatively, it can happen some times after the transaction commits.   When a transaction is committed, the following occurs: 1.      The internal transaction table for the associated undo table space records that the transaction has committed, and the corresponding unique system change number (SCN) of the transaction is assigned and recorded in the table 2.      The log writer process (LGWR) writes redo log entries in the SGA's redo log buffers to the redo log file. It also writes the transaction's SCN to the redo log file. This atomic event constitutes the commit of the transaction 3.      Oracle releases locks held on rows and tables 4.      Oracle marks the transaction complete   Note:   The default behavior is for LGWR to write redo to the online redo log files synchronously and for transactions to wait for the redo to go to disk before returning a commit to the user. However, for lower transaction commit latency application developers can specify that redo be written asynchronously and that transaction do not need to wait for the redo to be on disk.   The syntax of Commit Statement is   COMMIT [WORK] [COMMENT ‘your comment’]; ·         WORK is optional. The WORK keyword is supported for compliance with standard SQL. The statements COMMIT and COMMIT WORK are equivalent. Examples Committing an Insert INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (val1, val2); COMMIT WORK; ·         COMMENT Comment is also optional. This clause is supported for backward compatibility. Oracle recommends that you used named transactions instead of commit comments. Specify a comment to be associated with the current transaction. The 'text' is a quoted literal of up to 255 bytes that Oracle Database stores in the data dictionary view DBA_2PC_PENDING along with the transaction ID if a distributed transaction becomes in doubt. This comment can help you diagnose the failure of a distributed transaction. Examples The following statement commits the current transaction and associates a comment with it: COMMIT     COMMENT 'In-doubt transaction Code 36, Call (415) 555-2637'; ·         WRITE Clause Use this clause to specify the priority with which the redo information generated by the commit operation is written to the redo log. This clause can improve performance by reducing latency, thus eliminating the wait for an I/O to the redo log. Use this clause to improve response time in environments with stringent response time requirements where the following conditions apply: The volume of update transactions is large, requiring that the redo log be written to disk frequently. The application can tolerate the loss of an asynchronously committed transaction. The latency contributed by waiting for the redo log write to occur contributes significantly to overall response time. You can specify the WAIT | NOWAIT and IMMEDIATE | BATCH clauses in any order. Examples To commit the same insert operation and instruct the database to buffer the change to the redo log, without initiating disk I/O, use the following COMMIT statement: COMMIT WRITE BATCH; Note: If you omit this clause, then the behavior of the commit operation is controlled by the COMMIT_WRITE initialization parameter, if it has been set. The default value of the parameter is the same as the default for this clause. Therefore, if the parameter has not been set and you omit this clause, then commit records are written to disk before control is returned to the user. WAIT | NOWAIT Use these clauses to specify when control returns to the user. The WAIT parameter ensures that the commit will return only after the corresponding redo is persistent in the online redo log. Whether in BATCH or IMMEDIATE mode, when the client receives a successful return from this COMMIT statement, the transaction has been committed to durable media. A crash occurring after a successful write to the log can prevent the success message from returning to the client. In this case the client cannot tell whether or not the transaction committed. The NOWAIT parameter causes the commit to return to the client whether or not the write to the redo log has completed. This behavior can increase transaction throughput. With the WAIT parameter, if the commit message is received, then you can be sure that no data has been lost. Caution: With NOWAIT, a crash occurring after the commit message is received, but before the redo log record(s) are written, can falsely indicate to a transaction that its changes are persistent. If you omit this clause, then the transaction commits with the WAIT behavior. IMMEDIATE | BATCH Use these clauses to specify when the redo is written to the log. The IMMEDIATE parameter causes the log writer process (LGWR) to write the transaction's redo information to the log. This operation option forces a disk I/O, so it can reduce transaction throughput. The BATCH parameter causes the redo to be buffered to the redo log, along with other concurrently executing transactions. When sufficient redo information is collected, a disk write of the redo log is initiated. This behavior is called "group commit", as redo for multiple transactions is written to the log in a single I/O operation. If you omit this clause, then the transaction commits with the IMMEDIATE behavior. ·         FORCE Clause Use this clause to manually commit an in-doubt distributed transaction or a corrupt transaction. ·         In a distributed database system, the FORCE string [, integer] clause lets you manually commit an in-doubt distributed transaction. The transaction is identified by the 'string' containing its local or global transaction ID. To find the IDs of such transactions, query the data dictionary view DBA_2PC_PENDING. You can use integer to specifically assign the transaction a system change number (SCN). If you omit integer, then the transaction is committed using the current SCN. ·         The FORCE CORRUPT_XID 'string' clause lets you manually commit a single corrupt transaction, where string is the ID of the corrupt transaction. Query the V$CORRUPT_XID_LIST data dictionary view to find the transaction IDs of corrupt transactions. You must have DBA privileges to view the V$CORRUPT_XID_LIST and to specify this clause. ·         Specify FORCE CORRUPT_XID_ALL to manually commit all corrupt transactions. You must have DBA privileges to specify this clause. Examples Forcing an in doubt transaction. Example The following statement manually commits a hypothetical in-doubt distributed transaction. Query the V$CORRUPT_XID_LIST data dictionary view to find the transaction IDs of corrupt transactions. You must have DBA privileges to view the V$CORRUPT_XID_LIST and to issue this statement. • SCCM 2007 managing hosts in non trusted forest

  I have an implementation of SCCM 2007 in forest "A" that manages hosts in that Windows 2008 forest. There is another forest/domain, "B", which I have no trust with that I need to manage hosts in as well. I don't need to push out clients from the SCCM console, I am going to install them manually. I just need the hosts in domain "B" to connect back to the forest/domain "A" for management purposes. To date, I have not added any AD objects to domain "B" for hosts to query for site, SLP or management point info. I am installing the hosts with the command line: ccmsetup.exe /mp:SCCM_Server /site:mysite SCCM_Server = FQDN of my sccm server (which is resolvable by the client) There are no ACL's between the two servers. From the logs, I can see the install complete and the client tries to query the local AD for the site info for "mysite" but it can't find it and it stops and never connects. Can anyone give me some direction as to how this should be setup?

• Intel 520 SSD drives not working with lsi controller on VMware esxi 5

  We have a problem with our LSI 9266 controller. LSI have vmware drivers which normally show the health status of connected drives, raid controller, battery etc from within the vSphere Client. This driver also allows connectivity from the LSI MSM utility from a windows workstation. The problem is as soon as I connect my intel 520 SSD drives the health status in the vsphere client disappears, also we lose connectivity via the LSI MSM utlity. Any other drives we test are fine, 1TB SAS drives, other SSD drives etc are all OK. The Intel drives are on the compatability list and are supported by LSI but dont work with the VMware driver. If I install a windows OS on the physical server we have no problems. I have logged a ticket with LSI but they havent been very helpful. I am trying to find other people that may have had the same issue and maybe even a fix

  Need help moving a web site for a client, which I will call ClientABC. The web site is ClientABC.com, which is hosted at Rackspace, with their email hosted at eHost. We are transferring the site from Rackspace to WinHost and are keeping the email hosted at eHost. I would like the transfer to happen with little to no down time for the web site and email (email is most important). Current Config: Client owns domain and registrar is Network Solutions Domain name is managed by VendorX at Rackspace Web site is hosted on Rackspace servers Email is hosted at eHost Post-Move Config: Web site is hosted at WinHost Keep Email at eHost Here is my plan for the transfer: Copy the site files to WinHost and test to assure site is fully functional Set up the MX record in the WinHost account to point to eHost servers Change the DNS in Network Solutions from Rackspace to Winhost Questions: Will this work? What am I missing? Should I expect down time or any issues with email? I understand that there will be a period of time that traffic to the site is handled at both Rackspace and Winhost and that email traffic will be routed through both hosts as well. Will this cause issues? How will I know when the change is fully propagated and that Rackspace is out of the equation and WinHost is handling everything (so I can kill the Rackspace account) Thanks in advance!

• Oracle 64-bit assembly throws BadImageFormatException when running unit tests

  We recently upgraded to the 64-bit Oracle client. Since then, Visual Studio 2010 unit tests that hit the database (I know, unit tests shouldn't hit the database--they're not perfect) all fail with this error message:Test method MyProject.Test.SomeTest threw exception: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.I resolved this by changing the test settings to run tests in 64-bit. From the Test menu, go to Edit Test Settings, and pick your settings file. Go to Hosts, and change the "Run tests in 32 bit or 64 bit process" dropdown to "Run tests in 64 bit process on 64 bit machine". Now your tests should run.This fix makes me a little nervous. Visual Studio 2010 and earlier seem to change that file for no apparent reason, add more settings files, etc. If you're not paying attention, you could have TestSettings1.testsettings through TestSettings99.testsettings sitting there and never notice the difference. So it's worth making a note of how to change it in case you have to redo it, and being vigilant about files VS tries to add.I'm not entirely clear on why this was even a problem. Isn't that the point of an MSIL assembly, that it's not specific to the hardware it runs on? An IL disassembler can open the Oracle.DataAccess.dll in question, and in its Runtime property, I see the value "v4.0.30319 / x64". So I guess the assembly was specifically build to target 64-bit platforms only, possibly due to a 64-bit-specific difference in the external Oracle client upon which it depends. Most other assemblies, especially in the .NET Framework, list "msil", and a couple list "x86". So I guess this is another entry in the long list of ways Oracle refuses to play nice with Windows and .NET.If this doesn't solve your problem, you can read others' research into this error, and where to change the same test setting in Visual Studio 2012.

  Well, day 2 of the MIX10 conference did not disappoint.  The keynote speakers introduced the preview release of IE9, which looks really cool and quick, and Visual Studio 2010 RC that is scheduled to RTM on April 12th.  It seemed to have a lot of improvements aimed at making developers more productive.  Here are the current links to these two offerings: Internet Explorer 9 – Platform Preview Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4 – Release Candidate While both of these were interesting, the demos that really blew me away today centered around the work being done with The Open Data Protocol, or OData for short!  OData is a recommended standard being pushed by Microsoft that uses a REST based interface to interact with various types of data in a uniform manner.  Data producers then provide the data to consumer in either ATOM or JSON formats as requested by the client application.   I use TightVNC, RealVNC to access the Remote Linux(CentOS,Ubuntu) desktops by running a vncserver on the remote machine. When I connect to those servers from my Windows host: Can I use the Copy/Paste functionality on the VNC client desktop window. i.e. Copy some text on some terminal open inside the VNC client desktop window and paste it into some text file on my local windows machhines and vice-a-versa? I checked TightVNC options but did not see anything. Can it be done by a)Running vncserver on the remote machine with some options or b)By running some configuration on remote machine to enable this. How could I get it done? Also is this kind of Copy/Paste functionality possible in Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop connection/Terminal session protocol?

  Hi, We have a client running ISA2006 with logs going to MSDE. The MSDE database gets rotated. We have NO control over the client infrastructure. We need to get the logs out to a TEXT file on the server itself which will be forwarded to a remote server by other software we already have in place. My first thought was doing it via Stored Procs. Another option is vbscript? The actual table holding the logs has no primary key or other identifier so I think the dump should be done once a day for the previous day, but ideally it should run several times a day. Any ideas?

  I have a client who has a hosting arrangement with 400 customer sites all hosted through SuPHP in CGI mode on Apache. The sysop is now gone and the client is calling on me for rolling out a new PHP thing. Trouble is -- server load is very high right now and we have found that it's due to the crawlers. We had one customer in particular who complained of slow websites, and we engaged a 304 header plugin in his site against most crawlers, and his site perked right up. We'd like to lower that load by issuing a global 304 header to all the crawlers, letting human visitors through. I have a long list of user agent keywords to trap for. What's the best way to temporarily engage that global 304 header, while allowing human visitors to get right on through? I mean, I could roll out 400 .htaccess file changes, but it would be ideal to make this change in like one central Apache config and then it automatically affect all the sites at once.

Regular releases ensure that the UPK Developer supports updates to targeted applications as well as new Java updates. Installing an ESP is quick and easy. • Download the latest ESP from My Oracle Support (requires a My Oracle Support account). • Run the setup for each client machine that uses the UPK Developer • Run the Library Updates from one of the clients (multi-user only) Enablement Pack 1 for UPK 3.6.1 contains new features such as a new Tabbed Gateway, FireFox 3.6 support for the Player and SmartHelp, and several new target application versions. But a very exciting feature that is part of this ESP is now available to all Oracle E-Business Suite customers. Until now, a requirement for EBS customers who wish to record UPK content is to install delivered library files (CUSTOM.pll and ODPN.pll) on to the Oracle Application Server. These files were required to present context information to the UPK Developer so that content can be launched in a context sensitive manner. This requirement involved the Oracle system administrator to transfer, install and compile these libraries into the system. Usually a simple process, however, we understood the need to streamline the procedure. With ESP 1 for UPK 3.6.1, these pll files are no longer required. Now, a simple procedure from within the EBS application can make context available to the UPK recorder. From the System Profile, search for UPK: Change the Site field to Enable UPK Recording. Save the Form. Context information will now be made available to the UPK Recorder without involving the System Administrator or DBA. The setting you see here makes context available to all client machines recording content with UPK and does not affect the performance of your EBS application.

  im trying to connect LDAP over StartTLS but Im stuck with an issue. • Some DHCP clients end up with wrong DNS server

  The scenario: DC running Windows Server 2008 R2 providing DNS + DHCP Cisco 1811 Router as the gateway 30 Windows XP DHCP clients on the LAN The problem: Some workstations are spontaneously switching to an incorrect DNS server. Specifically, ipconfig /all shows that they start using the gateway as a DNS server. This happens about 5-10 times a day to various computers, sometimes more than once per day. The workaround: Repairing the connection on the XP client always fixes the problem, and the correct DNS server address is obtained. We lost our main DNS/DHCP machine a week ago, and had to bring this one online as a spare. We've been having this issue since then. DHCP leases on the old and new servers are configured for "wired" (8 day) duration. There are definitely no other DHCP servers active on the LAN. So far there is no discernible pattern about which clients will show this problem, or when. When I ran DCDIAG /test:DNS it came back clean. Manual inspection of the DNS zone shows that all the records are appearing as expected, with no traces of the previous machine in there. Update Feb 27: Added screenshots. Here is a screenshot of the DHCP scope options on the 2008 R2 server. And here is a screenshot of ipconfig /all running on a healthy host. I don't have any ailing hosts at the moment, but will grab a screencap next time it happens. Update Feb 28: More screenshots. Here's a screenshot of DHCP and DNS traffic from a healthy client when repairing the local area connection. There's definitely only one server responding, but it does seem strange that the negotiation takes place twice. I'll try to get a similar capture from a sick machine this coming week. Update Mar 01: Caught a bad ipconfig. Here's a screenshot of ipconfig /all from a client that had this issue. It says the lease was issued this morning, but it doesn't even have an entry for the secondary DNS I set up yesterday. Both DNS servers were discovered properly when repairing the connection. Update Mar 01: It even got the sysadmin! This issue finally affected my personal workstation this morning. Unfortunately I had just rebooted and wasn't running a packet dump at the time. I set up a secondary server yesterday, and was logging all DNS traffic to it. My machine had not contacted the secondary DNS in over half an hour, so that says to me that it's just spontaneously reverting to the gateway without even failing over to secondary DNS first. Today I swapped the order of the DNS servers in DHCP, so the secondary is primary and vice versa. I will update again once I know how that goes.

  I've got a very simple need and I don't know what are the options available. If I simplify, users see webpage like this server by a Java webapp server: [-] red [x] green [-] blue [-] yellow The selected color is green And then I want the user to be able to select the yellow color and have the part of the page containing the relevant text change to: [-] red [-] green [-] blue [x] yellow The selected color is yellow Basically I want something a bit more user friendly than simply using HTTP GET all the time. There shall be a lot of options the user can select from and this shall affect an (HTML formatted) text displayed on the page. And I want the user to see his change as soon as possible, without having the page to fully reload and without being redirected to another page. There shall be a client/server round-trip (the information to display depending on the options selected ain't available on the client-side so I cannot do it all in JavaScript in the browser). I'd like to use Ajax requests but I don't know which way to go: jQuery GWT something else What are my options and what would be the pros and cons of the various approach? P.S: I'm very familiar with Java (SCP since the last century and basically being a Java programmer for the last 12 years or so) but not familiar at all with JavaScript (though I did hack a few Ajaxy-calls years ago, way before great libraries existed).

  When I try to connect to my Tomcat server on http://<servername>:8080 it works fine, but from another ISP provided it gives the following error: HTTP through a proxy server is not allowed. Some ISP apparently don't allow http over the port 8080, as they think the client uses a proxy. I also have a httpd running on port 80 for my website. So in order to avoid the proxy error, I would like to make to following routing: If the user connects to http://<servername>, then the website is served via apache. If the user connects to http://<servername>/AppName, then the port is rerouted to 8080, without the client (or his ISP) knowing. Is that possible (using iptables or something else) ? Thank you
