• UpdatePanel + ToolkitScriptManager work in FF but blows up in IE 6+

  I just upgraded my ASP.NET application from AjaxToolkit version 1.0 to version 3.5. The only code that I had to change as a result of the upgrade was to replace instances of ScriptManager with ToolKitScriptManager. UpdatePanels that used to work flawlessly in both FF and IE6+ now only work in FF. The specific problem in IE is twofold: PostBackTriggers don't perform any PostBack at all (i.e button clicks do nothing) AsyncPostBackTriggers do perform an async PostBack, but outside of a single hidden field (created by the ToolKitScriptManager itself) no ViewState is being sent back to the server for any controls. Needless to say, controls tend to fail in rather spectacular fashion when they can't access their ViewState during a PostBack. :) The only thing I can think of that would account for this only failing in IE6+, is that there is some malformed JavaScript getting piped down that FF is able to work around/ignore but that causes IE to self-destruct Downgrading to the 1.0 version of AjaxToolkit would probably fix this issue, but there are several key features in the 3.5 I need to leverage so this would be painful. • Is there a way to mark up code to tell ReSharper not to format it?

  I quite often use the ReSharper "Clean Up Code" command to format my code to our coding style before checking it into source control. This works well in general, but some bits of code are better formatted manually (eg. because of the indenting rules in ReSharper, things like chained linq methods or multi-line ternary operators have a strange indent that pushes them way to the right). Is there any way to mark up parts of a file to tell ReSharper not to format that area? I'm hoping for some kind of markup similar to how ReSharper suppresses other warnings/features. If not, is there some way of changing a combination of settings to get ReSharper to format the indenting correctly? EDIT: I have found this post from the ReSharper forums that says that generated code sections (as defined in the ReSharper options page) are ignored in code cleanup. Having tried it though, it doesn't seem to get ignored.

• Good tutorial for ASP.net mvc 2

  I am an experienced asp.net web forms developer using c# but i have never used asp.net MVC. As I am just starting out with mvc i would like to start with mvc 2. I am looking for a good intro/tutorial to help me understand the basics. I am aware of the Nerd Dinner but that is based around MVC 1. What would you guys recomend for me to get started. Should i work through the nerd dinner tutorial then once i have a good understanding of mvc then research the new features of mvc 2 or is there a similar getting started tutorial for mvc 2. Sugestions of good books to read are also welcome. In fact any advice on getting started on mvc 2 would be good.

• Are you as productive in Javascript as you are in .Net or Java?

  I code primarily in javascript and in vb.net. I've found that if I can achieve the same thing in both javascript and vb.net that I feel far more productive and expressive using javascript for the task. I often find myself researching server-side javascript implementations to see if anything has gone mainstream so that I can code my back-end business logic and data access in javascript. Given all the advanced tooling and language features in .Net this preference seems somewhat paradoxical to me. I'm not suggesting one is better than the other (I've been a vb programmer since I started programming), I'm just wondering if my preference is entirely subjective or if anyone else shares it. So, does anyone else enjoy coding in javascript to the point where you prefer it to the .Net and Java environment, and if, so why?

• Firefox jQuery Drag and Drop File Upload together with PHP

  Hi, Hoping to get some assistance but I am after a jQuery/PHP means of allowing a user to drag and drop files and then via PHP, upload one or more files to a specific directory on a Linux box. I only have Firefox 3.6 as my base browser but can also move to FFox if need be. Cann use any HTML5 features as long as I'm using Firefox 3.6 Can someone possibly point me to any examples/sites where this process is demonstrated? I have had a look at http://www.plupload.com/index.php but this does not work in IE6. As mentioned, would like it to work in FFox only. Thanks.

• ADD COLUMN to sqlite db IF NOT EXISTS - flex/air sqlite?

  I've got a flex/air app I've been working on, it uses a local sqlite database that is created on the initial application start. I've added some features to the application and in the process I had to add a new field to one of the database tables. My questions is how to I go about getting the application to create one new field that is located in a table that already exists? this is a the line that creates the table stmt.text = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tbl_status ("+"status_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,"+" status_status TEXT)"; And now I'd like to add a status_default field. thanks!   I've chosen JQuery as my JavaScript library but now I'm a bit frustrated by the JQuery plugin site... the site kinda sucks... the plugin area isn't designed very well and I can only find a few treeviews. The one with the most votes (link text) isn't supported anymore. Can someone please point me to an industrial strength treeview? Desired Features: 1. stable 2. async / ajax would be nice 3. drag and drop nodes would be nice I've been delighted so far with JQueryUI--nice design. • Failure connecting to Dell MD3200i from XenServer 6.2 pool

  This question also asked at Citrix Forums http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=332289 I have a MD3200i that is currently working fine with my Xen5.6 pool, but I cannot get a connection to the new 6.2 pool to work. I previously had a problem with a 6.0 upgrade (which is why the old pool is still on 5.6), but rolled back rather than fix it as it wasn't urgent at the time. This install is on new machines - I tried 6.1 first (which had the same problems) then 6.2 was released the second day after installation so I switched to that. I've not installed anything from the Dell resource DVD at this point - I can't find anything saying I should, and everything I have read suggests it shouldn't be necessary. I can ping all 8 ip addresses from both servers in the pool, iscsiadm -m discovery works fine, I can login to the nodes and iscsiadm reports the sessions active correctly. I've added the required sections to multipath.conf, but multipath -ll reports DM multipath kernel driver not loaded immediately after boot. • What to do with CSV after export on the iPhone?

  One of the requested features for my apps is to have an export feature. Most of the time the data is table-like in nature. As an example, users might enter every day what types of food they ate that day, and how many portions of each food type. As the data is table-like, I figure the most useful for export would be into CSV format. Then it can be read in spreadsheet software. Can I attach it to an email? How else can I make it available to the user so that it has some use? • Debugging with Visual Studio 2010 and VB.NET: Immediate fails due to proection level

  It happens quite frequently, more times per day, that with Visual Studio 2010, during the debugging, when I used Immediate commands like: ? NamedVariable I receive the following error: 'NamedVariable' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level. In this case also other debug features seems gone, but I can set breakpoints, step into, step over, etc. The solution is stop debugging, clean and rebuild the project, and retry. I am developing a VB.NET Windows Forms application, but it happened with VB.NET WPF projects too. I never had this behavior with VS 2008. Is this a known bug or could it be a problem of my environment/installation? Do you have any idea how to solve this little, but annoying issue?

• Any Flex 4 migration experience?

There are cool features like Data Centric Development (DCD), form generation etc... Do you know how Spring Blazeds Integration works with BlazeDS 4? What about Mate? Is there any issues with Flex 4 ? How DCD suits with mate eventmaps. I know it is better to try it out myself but I just want to check if somebody ever tried to migrate Flex 4. If so what are the issues? • Adaboost algorithm and its usage in face detection

  I am trying to understand Adaboost algorithm but i have some troubles. After reading about Adaboost i realized that it is a classification algorithm(somehow like neural network). But i could not know how the weak classifiers are chosen (i think they are haar-like features for face detection) and how finally the H result which is the final strong classifier can be used. I mean if i found the alpha values and compute the H ,how am i going to benefit from it as a value (one or zero) for new images. Please is there an example describes it in a perfect way? i found the plus and minus example that is found in most adaboost tutorials but i did not know how exactly hi is chosen and how to adopt the same concept on face detection.   I'm trying to write a Greasemonkey script to update the onclick value of a bunch of links on a page. • Cucumber Textmate Highlighting

  I am trying to get highlighting for Cucumber to work with Textmate. I already installed the Cucumber Textmate Bundle (which is supposed to include the highlighting). I am working with Ryan Bates' Railscasts theme (description for it is in the about page) for textmate, but for some reason In order to, As a, I want, etc do not get highlighted in foobar.feature located in my features folder. Seems like it's working for for Ryan in his "Beginning with Cucumber" screencast. Any help? Thanks!

Some questions: 1) Is an SVM appropriate for this task? 2) Can I train it with the raw URLs? - without explicitly specifying 'features' 3) How many URLs will I need for it to be good at predictions? 4) What kind of SVM kernel should I use? 5) After I train it, how do I keep it up to date? 6) How do I test unseen URLs again the SVM to decide whether it's good or bad? • Dashcode development for iPhone resources

  I've been developing web applications and iPhone applications for years. Now I want to create a web application oriented to the iPhone browser. I willing to use Dashcode, since it seams to have tons of cool features that make my web app look like an native iPhone app. The problem I face is twofold: On one side I don't know it Dashcode development will allow me to do all I want (session control, runtime datasources, etc); on the other side I'm having a hard time finding good documentation, tutorials and books on Dashcode programing for the iPhone. Looks like 90% of the links out there are for Dashcode widgets. Can you advise me on the best resources to learn Dashcode (for mobile Safari) programming? Thanks Gonso

  I am writing an Excel 2007 Addin. using VS2008 and .net 3.5, C#. I catched Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application's WindowActivate and WindowDeActivate events. It was surprised to know that WindowActivate and Deactivate only triggers when i switch between two Excel Windows. if i switch to notepad, i expect Deactivate to be triggered, but its not happening. same way from notepad if i switch to excel window, i expect Activate to be triggered but its not happening. It looks like the behaviour indicates windows are MDI-Child windows. Now what i want to do is get HWnd of Excel's Mainwindow and hook Window Activate and Deactivates using dllimport features. Can anyone guide to me on this. Regards

• How to add a Fragment inside a ViewPager using Nested Fragment (Android 4.2)

  I have a ViewPager with three Fragments, each one shows a List (or Grid). In the new Android API level 17 (Jelly Bean 4.2), one of the features is Nested Fragments. The new functionality description says: if you use ViewPager to create fragments that swipe left and right and consume a majority of the screen space, you can now insert fragments into each fragment page. So, if I understand right, now I can create a ViewPager with Fragments (with a button inside for example) inside, and when user press the button show another Fragment without loose the ViewPager using this new feature. I expend my morning trying to implement this on several ways but I can´t made it... Can somebody show a simple example of how to do this? PS: I'm only interested in doing at this way, with getChildFragmentManager to learn how works.

• LibraryContainer in a ScatterViewItem: resizing and background rectangle...

  Simple one: Want to add a LibraryContainer to a Surface ScatterView. Know I have to add the container inside a ScatterViewItem to get the rotate/move features.. but the SVI adds a rectangle box around the control, and it does not size correctly. Think I'm missing something simple but can't figure it... My current XAML is as follows: Background="{StaticResource WindowBackground}" AllowDrop="True" . . . Any thoughts are appreciated... I've been looking at the how-to samples but the library controls that are shown are static item. (ie they are not movable)... Rob

• Eclipse Code Templates with Cobol

  People, My team is just beginning to learn how to use COBOL on Eclipse (as part of the Rational Developer for System Z package) and one of our most desired features are code templates or code snippets. What we'd like to have is a code completion based on snippets just like we have on Java. For example, when I type try and hit ctrl-space Eclipse shows me a list of completion options, where one of those is create a try/catch block. Well, in COBOL one could leverage this when creating, for example, embedded SQL blocks, like EXEC SQL SELECT field, field, field, FROM table WHERE field = value, field = value END-EXEC. However, for some reason, it seems that Eclipse treats COBOL a little differently (no wonder why) from other languages. As such, when looking for the code templates in the preferences menu for COBOL, its appearance is very different from the Java one. The question is: how does one uses Eclipse's code templates with COBOL?
