• Why RSA SSH authentication only works after console log-in?

  I setup RSA authentication on one of my Ubuntu servers, however after every restart, I can't log-in via ssh RSA. In order to log-in with ssh I need to first log-in via console, then the RSA starts working. Why??? • red5 Install on Ubuntu 10.04? Problems with libslf4j

  I've been trying for many days to get Red5 to install on Ubuntu 10.04. There seem to be a lot of people having trouble getting 10.04 and red5 0.9 working together. I've tried red5-0.9.1.tar.gz and red5_0.9.0-RC1_all.deb. The libraries above should be all that are needed according to Red5's documentation and I got the latest version of each.

• BSOD trying to migrate Windows XP from a physical to a virtual machine

  I am attempting to migrate a Windows XP Home installation from a physical machine to a virtual machine. The physical machine has two hard disks; the first is 250GB containing the "C:", the second is 1TB containing "D:". I'd like to create a new virtual machine stored on the D:, which is a copy of the Windows XP Home installation that is currently on the C:. (This will leave the 250GB drive clear for me to install a fresh copy of Windows 7, and still be able to access the old XP installation if necessary.) The first method I tried was to follow the instructions here: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Migrate_Windows I booted up from an Ubuntu Live CD in order to execute the Linux commands whilst the Windows system wasn't running. With this method the virtual machine would always blue screen on startup with a "STOP 0x0000007B" message. The instructions above say to try a "repair install" using the Windows XP disc. Unfortunately for me my XP disc is scratched and will not boot so I was unable to try a repair install. The second method I tried was to use "VMWare Converter Standalone Client". This tool executed without any errors, but again produced a virtual machine that blue screens on startup with the same "STOP" message. Are there any other methods to move the Windows XP installation into a virtual machine? I think next I will try some more manual process to create the cloned virtual machine. I think I will try installing a fresh copy of Windows XP to a virtual machine, then once that is booting OK I will ntfsclone the source C: partition over the top. Perhaps this will fix the booting problems if the issue is related to the MBR or partition table in some way.

Problem ssh connections initiated ANYWHERE EXCEPT the office LAN are really fast. However, from the LAN, there is about a 5 second delay. WTF?? Extra info The DMZ machine is debian 5. Executing a wget to the DMZ has no lag.   I know this question has been asked, but I'm certain I've done what all the other answers suggest. Machine A: used keygen -t rsa to create id_rsa.pub in ~/.ssh/ copied Machine A's id_rsa.pub to Machine B user's home directory Made the file permissions of id_rsa.pub 600 Machine B added Machine A's pub key to authorised_keys and authorised_keys2: cat ~/id_rsa.pub ~/.ssh/authorised_keys2 made the file permissions of id_rsa.pub 600 I've also ensured both the .ssh directories have the permission 700 on both machine A and B. If I try to login to machine B from machine A, I get asked for the password, not the ssh pass phrase. I've got the root users on both machines to talk to each other using password-less ssh, but I can't get a normal user to do it. Do the user names have to be the same on both sides? Or is there some setting else where I've missed.   I'm having trouble authenticating services using uid for authentication, which I thought was the standard method for authentication on the user. So basically, my users are added in ldap like this: # jsmith, Users, example.com dn: uid=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com uidNumber: 10003 loginShell: /bin/bash sn: Smith mail: [email protected] homeDirectory: /home/jsmith displayName: John Smith givenName: John uid: jsmith gecos: John Smith gidNumber: 10000 cn: John Smith title: System Administrator But when I try to authenticate using typical webapps or services like this: jsmith password I get: ldapsearch -x -h ldap.example.com -D "cn=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com" -W -b "dc=example,dc=com" Enter LDAP Password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) But if I use: ldapsearch -x -h ldap.example.com -D "uid=jsmith,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com" -W -b "dc=example,dc=com" It works. HOWEVER...most webapps and authentication methods seem to use another method. So on a webapp I'm using, unless I specify the user as: uid=smith,ou=users,dc=example,dc=com Nothing works. In the webapp I just need users to put: jsmith in the user field. Keep in mind my ldap is using the "new" cn=config method of storing settings.   I am attempting to automate a script that executes commands on remote machines via ssh. I have public key authentication setup between the machines using ssh-agent. The script runs fine when executed from the command prompt. I suspect my problem is that cron isn't starting the ssh-agent due to it's minimalist environment. • How to serve pages through multiple frameworks/template engines efficiently

  I would like to render a file that has both PHP tags and Web2Py tags mixed together. To do this, I would like the web server to pass the file through Web2Py, then PHP. I found a method to call PHP from Web2py via Python (based on this method for running PHP on top of django), but this method loses the benefits of any server optimizations from mod_php or FastCGI like caching and multi-threaded operation. A new process is created for each PHP request, which is very slow. Is there a better way to efficiently render pages with both Web2Py(Python) and PHP tags in the same file? Note I am not looking for methods of serving PHP-only and Web2Py-only files from the same server/domain. I prefer solutions for Apache2 or Cherokee. I'm open to using other web servers, though. Background info: I prefer to develop in Web2Py, but we have this pre-existing system written in PHP. I would like to augment the PHP system with some of Web2Py's features like auth authentication/user management and the T() internationalization object. Also it would make it much easier to port the PHP project to Web2Py if it could be done piecemeal. Since the PHP project consists of many files, it would greatly help if they did not need modification.

• What is a good WordPress theme for long Objective-C code samples [closed]

  As some of you iPhone developers know, Objective-C can be a verbose language. Long, descriptive variable and method names are the norm. I'm not complaining, it makes code easier to read and code completion makes it easy to type. But damn! Check out this method name for getting a cell in a table view: -(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath; I have a WordPress blog where I publish my code samples as I'm learning the language. One thing I hate on other blogs is how the code won't fit in a column without that scroll bar or without wrapping around. It really made it hard for me to read and comprehend method names back when I was a super-noob (six months ago). Right now I use the clean-looking Fazyvo 1.0 theme by noonnoo. I love the look of it but the columns are just too narrow and it doesn't have support for wider ones. I could hand-modify it but then I'd have to maintain/redo those changes every time I updated it. Instead, I'm looking for a nice theme that has width control built-in and looks good at larger font sizes. Can anyone help? Note: I use WP-CodeBox for code syntax highlighting.

  Does anyone know how to deploy a custom MBean to Tomcat? So far I`ve found this http://www.junlu.com/list/3/8871.html. I copied my jar with my MBean to Tomcat lib directory so the Custom class loader should pick it up. I then followed the instructions but I kept getting the exception below. My MBean does definitely have a public constructor. • Cannot properly read files on the local server

  I'm running a RedHat 6.2 Amazon EC2 instance using stock Apache and IUS PHP53u+MySQL (+mbstring, +mysqli, +mcrypt), and phpMyAdmin from git. All configuration is near-vanilla, assuming the described installation procedure. I've been trying to import SQL files into the database using phpMyAdmin to read them from a directory on my server. phpMyAdmin lists the files fine in the drop down, but returns a "File could not be read" error when actually trying to import. Furthermore, when trying to execute file_get_contents(); on the file, it also returns a "failed to open stream: Permission denied" error. In fact, when my brother was attempting to import the SQL files using MySQL "SOURCE" as an authenticated MySQL user with ALL PRIVILEGES, he was getting an error reading the file. It seems that we are unable to read/import these files with ANY method other than root under SSH (although I can't say I've tried every possible method). I have never had this issue under regular CentOS (5, 6, 6.2) installations with the same LAMP stack configuration. Some things I've tried after searching Google and StackExchange: CHMOD 0777 both directory and files, CHOWN root, apache (only two users I can think of that PHP would use), Importing SQL files with total size under both upload_max_filesize and post_max_size, PHP open_basedir commented out, or = "/var/www" (my sites are using Apache VirtualHosts within that directory, and all the SQL files are deep within that directory), PHP safe mode is OFF (it was never ON) At the moment I have solved this issue with the smaller files by using the FILE UPLOAD method directly to phpMyAdmin, but this will not be suitable for uploading my 200+ MiB SQL files as I don't have a stable Internet connection. • SSH into remote server using Public-private keys

  Hi, I have recently setup ssh on two linux machines (lets call them server-a, client-b). I have generated two ssh auth files on client-b machine using ssh key gen and can see both public and private files in .ssh dir. I have named them 'example' and 'example.pub'. Then I have added example.pub to sever-a's auth file. When I try to ssh into server-a it still requests a password authentication where as I want a password less login (private key on client-b is setup without password). • PostgreSQL pg_hba.conf with "password" auth wouldn't work with PHP pg_connect?

  I've recently experimented with the settings in pg_hba.conf. I read the PostgreSQL documentation and I though that the "password" auth method is what I want. There are many people that have access to the server PostgreSQL is working on so I don't want the "trust" method. So I changed it. But then PHP stopped working with the database. The message I get is "Warning: pg_connect(): Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "myuser" in /my/path/to/connection/class.php on line 35". It is kind of strange because I can connect via phppgadmin without any problems and also I can connect from my home computer with psql - again without any problems. This is my pg_hba.conf: # TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD # "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only local all all password # IPv4 local connections: host all all 127.0.0.1/32 password # IPv6 local connections: host all all ::1/128 password The connection string I'm using with pg_conenct is: $connect_string = "host=localhost port=5432 dbname=mydbname user=auser password=apassword"; $dbConnection = pg_connect($connection_string); Does anybody know why is this happening ? Did I misconfigured something ?

• Internal Code Signing: Key Distribution, or Certificate Server?

  I should first note that we have nobody in IT with significant familiarity with self-signed certification. We have a moderately sprawling network (one forest, many locations), and we are now rolling out internal code signing; until now users have run untrusted code, or we even disabled(!) the warnings. Intranet applications, scripts, and sites will now be signed with self certification. I am aware of two obvious ways we can deploy this: Distributing the keys directly via a group policy, and setting up a cert server. Can someone explain the trade-offs between these two methods? How many certs before the group policy method is unwieldy? Are they large enough that remote users will have issues? Does the group policy method distribute duplicates on every login? Is there a better method I am not aware of? I can find a lot of documentation on certifications and various ways to create them, but I have not been able to find something that summarizes the difference between the distribution methods and what criteria make one or the other superior.

• Ubuntu 9.10 RSA authentication: ssh fails, filezilla runs fine

  This is quite a mistery for me. I usually use passwordless RSA authentication to login into my remote *nix servers with ssh and sftp. Never had any problem until now.
