  • The Three-Legged Milk Stool - Why Oracle Fusion Incentive Compensation makes the difference!

    - by Richard Lefebvre
During the London Olympics, we were exposed to dozens of athletes who worked with sports psychologists to maximize their performance. Executives often hire business psychologists to coach their teams to excellence. In the same vein, Fusion Incentive Compensation can be used to get people to change their sales behavior so we can make our numbers. But what about using incentive compensation solutions in a non-sales scenario to drive change? Recently, I was working an opportunity where a company was having a low user adoption rate for Salesforce.com, which was causing problems for them. I suggested they use Fusion Incentive Comp to change the reps' behavior. We tossed around the idea of tracking user adoption by creating a variable bonus for reps based on how well they forecasted revenues in the new system. Another thought was to reward the reps for how often they logged into the system or for the percentage of leads that became opportunities and turned into revenue. A new twist on a great product. Fusion CRM's Sweet Spot I'm excited about the sales performance management (SPM) tools in Fusion CRM. This trio of Incentive Compensation, Territory Management, and Quota Management sets us apart from the competition because Oracle is the only vendor that provides all three of these capabilities on a single tech stack, in a single application, and with a single look and feel. The niche vendors offer standalone territory or incentive compensation solutions, but then the customer has to custom build the other tools and can end up with a Frankenstein-type environment. On average, companies overpay sales commissions by three to eight percent. You calculate that number for a company the size of Oracle for one quarter and it makes a pretty air-tight financial case for using SPM tools to figure accurate commissions. Plus when sales reps get the right compensation, they can be out selling rather than spending precious time figuring out what they didn't get paid or looking for another job. And one more thing ... Oracle knows incentive comp. We have been a Gartner Market Scope leader in this space for the last five years. Our solution gets high marks because of its scalability and because of its interoperability with other technologies. And now that we're leading with Fusion, our incentive compensation offering includes the innovations that the Fusion team built, plus enhancements from the E-Business Suite Incentive Comp team. It's a case of making a good thing even better. (See product video.) The "Wedge" Apps In a number of accounts that I'm working on, there is a non-Oracle CRM system of record. That gives me the perfect opportunity to introduce the benefits of our SPM tools and to get the customer using Fusion. Then the door is wide open for the company to uptake more of Fusion CRM, especially since all the integrations they need are out of the box. I really believe that implementing this wedge of SPM tools is the ticket to taking market share away from other vendors. It allows us to insert ourselves in an environment where no other CRM solution in the market has the extending capabilities of Fusion. Not Just Your Usual Suspects Usually the stakeholders that I talk to for Territory Management are tightly aligned with the sales management team. When I sell the quota planning tool, I'm talking to finance people on the ERP side of the house who are measuring quotas and forecasting revenue. And then Incentive Comp is of most interest to the sales operations people, and generally these people roll up to either HR or the payroll department. I think of our Fusion SPM tools as a three-legged stool straddling an organization's Sales, Finance, and HR departments. So when you're prospecting for opportunities -- yes, people with a CRM perspective will be very interested -- but don't limit yourselves to that constituency. You might find stakeholders in accounting, revenue planning, or HR compensation teams. You just might discover, as I did at United Airlines, that the HR organization is spearheading the CRM project because incentive compensation is what they need ... and they're the ones with the budget. • Using EUSM to manage EUS mappings in OUD

    - by Sylvain Duloutre
EUSM is a command line tool that can be used to manage the EUS settings starting with the 11.1 release of Oracle. In the 11.1 release the tool is not yet documented in the Oracle EUS documentation, but this is planned for a coming release. The same commands used by EUSM can be performed from the Database Console GUI or from Grid Control*. For more details, search for the document ID 1085065.1 on OTN. The examples below don't include all the EUSM options, only the options that are used by EUS. EUSM is user friendly and intuitive. Typing eusm help <option> lists the parameters to be used for any of the available options. Here are the options related to connectivity with OUD : ldap_host="gnb.fr.oracle.com" - name of the OUD server. ldap_port=1389 - nonSSL (SASL) port used for OUD connections.  ldap_user_dn="cn=directory manager" - OUD administrator nameldap_user_password="welcome1" - OUD administrator password Find below common commands: To List Enterprise roles in OUD eusm listEnterpriseRoles domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn=<realm> ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn=<oud administrator> ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> To List Mappings eusm listMappings domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn=<realm> ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn=<oud admin> ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> To List Enterprise Role Info eusm listEnterpriseRoleInfo enterprise_role=<rdn of enterprise role> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn=<realm> ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> To Create Enterprise Role eusm createRole enterprise_role=<rdn of the enterprise role> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn=<realm> ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> To Create User-Schema Mapping eusm createMapping database_name=<SID of target database> realm_dn="<realm>" map_type=<ENTRY/SUBTREE> map_dn="<dn of enterprise user>" schema="<name of the shared schema>" ldap_host=<oud hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password="<oud admin password>" To Create Proxy Permission eusm createProxyPerm proxy_permission=<Name of the proxypermission> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn="<realm>" ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> To Grant Proxy permission to Proxy group eusm grantProxyPerm proxy_permission=<Name of the proxy permission> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn="<realm>" ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<password> group_dn="<dn of the enterprise group>" To Map proxy permission to proxy user in DB eusm addTargetUser proxy_permission=<Name of the proxy permission> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn="<realm>" ldap_host=<hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<oud admin password> database_name=<SID of the target database> target_user=<target database user> dbuser=<Database user with DBA privileges> dbuser_password=<database user password> dbconnect_string=<database_host>:<port>:<DBSID> Enterprise role to Global role mapping eusm addGlobalRole enterprise_role=<rdn of the enterprise role> domain_name=<Domain> realm_dn="<realm>" database_name=<SID of the target database> global_role=<name of the global role defined in the target database> dbuser=<database user> dbuser_password=<database user password> dbconnect_string=<database_host>:<port>:<DBSID> ldap_host=<oid_hostname> ldap_port=<port> ldap_user_dn="<oud admin>" ldap_user_password=<oud admin password>

  • Database Partitioning and Multiple Data Source Considerations

    - by Jeffrey McDaniel
With the release of P6 Reporting Database 3.0 partitioning was added as a feature to help with performance and data management.  Careful investigation of requirements should be conducting prior to installation to help improve overall performance throughout the lifecycle of the data warehouse, preventing future maintenance that would result in data loss. Before installation try to determine how many data sources and partitions will be required along with the ranges.  In P6 Reporting Database 3.0 any adjustments outside of defaults must be made in the scripts and changes will require new ETL runs for each data source.  Considerations: 1. Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition of Oracle Database.   If you aren't using Oracle Enterprise Edition Database; the partitioning feature is not available. Multiple Data sources are only supported on Enterprise Edition of Oracle   Database. 2. Number of Data source Ids for partitioning during configuration.   This setting will specify how many partitions will be allocated for tables containing data source information.  This setting requires some evaluation prior to installation as       there are repercussions if you don't estimate correctly.   For example, if you configured the software for only 2 data sources and the partition setting was set to 2, however along came a 3rd data source.  The necessary steps to  accommodate this change are as follows: a) By default, 3 partitions are configured in the Reporting Database scripts. Edit the create_star_tables_part.sql script located in <installation directory>\star\scripts   and search for partition.  You’ll see P1, P2, P3.  Add additional partitions and sub-partitions for P4 and so on. These will appear in several areas.  (See P6 Reporting Database 3.0 Installation and Configuration guide for more information on this and how to adjust partition ranges). b) Run starETL -r.  This will recreate each table with the new partition key.  The effect of this step is that all tables data will be lost except for history related tables.   c) Run starETL for each of the 3 data sources (with the data source # (starETL.bat "-s2" -as defined in P6 Reporting Database 3.0 Installation and Configuration guide) The best strategy for this setting is to overestimate based on possible growth.  If during implementation it is deemed that there are atleast 2 data sources with possibility for growth, it is a better idea to set this setting to 4 or 5, allowing room for the future and preventing a ‘start over’ scenario. 3. The Number of Partitions and the Number of Months per Partitions are not specific to multi-data source.  These settings work in accordance to a sub partition of larger tables with regard to time related data.  These settings are dataset specific for optimization.  The number of months per partition is self explanatory, optimally the smaller the partition, the better query performance so if the dataset has an extremely large number of spread/history records, a lower number of months is optimal.  Working in accordance with this setting is the number of partitions, this will determine how many "buckets" will be created per the number of months setting.  For example, if you kept the default for # of partitions of 3, and select 2 months for each partitions you would end up with: -1st partition, 2 months -2nd partition, 2 months -3rd partition, all the remaining records Therefore with records to this setting, it is important to analyze your source db spread ranges and history settings when determining the proper number of months per partition and number of partitions to optimize performance.  Also be aware the DBA will need to monitor when these partition ranges will fill up and when additional partitions will need to be added.  If you get to the final range partition and there are no additional range partitions all data will be included into the last partition.

  • What's New in SGD 5.1?

    - by Fat Bloke
Oracle announced the latest version of Secure Global Desktop (SGD) this week with 3 major themes: Support for Android devices; Support for Desktop Chrome clients;  Support for Oracle Unified Directory. I'll talk about the new features in a moment, but a bit of context first: Oracle SGD - what, how and why?  Oracle Secure Global Desktop is Oracle's secure remote access product which allows users on almost any device, to access almost any type application which  is hosted in the data center, from almost any location. And it does this by sitting on the edge of the datacenter, between the user and the applications: This is actually a really smart environment for an increasing number of use cases where: Users need mobility of location AND device (i.e. work from anywhere); IT needs to ensure security of applications and data (of course!) The application requires an end-user environment which can't be guaranteed and IT may not own the client platform (e.g. BYOD, working from home, partners or contractors). Oracle has a a specific interest in this of course. As the leading supplier of enterprise applications, many of Oracle's customers, and indeed Oracle itself, fit these criteria. So, as an IT guy rolling out an application to your employees, if one of your apps absolutely needs, say,  IE10 with Java 6 update 32, how can you be sure that the user population has this, especially when they're using their own devices? In the SGD model you, the IT guy, can set up, say, a Windows Server running the exact environment required, and then use SGD to publish this app, without needing to worry any further about the device the end user is using. What's new?  So back to SGD 5.1 and what is new there: Android devices Since we introduced our support for iPad tablets in SGD 5.0 we've had a big demand from customers to extend this to Android tablets too, and so we're pleased to announce that 5.1 supports Android 4.x tablets such as Nexus 7 and 10, and the Galaxy Tab. Here's how it works, with screenshots from my Nexus 7: Simply point your browser to the SGD server URL and login; The workspace is the list of apps that the admin has deemed ok for you to run. You click on an application to run it (here's Excel and Oracle E-Business Suite): There's an extended on-screen keyboard (extended because desktop apps need keys that don't appear on a tablet keyboard such as ctrl, WIndow key, etc) and touch gestures can be mapped to desktop events (such as tap and hold to right click) All in all a pretty nice implementation for Android tablet users. Desktop Chrome Browsers SGD has always been designed around using a browser to access your applications. But traditionally, this has involved using Java to deliver the SGD client component. With HTML5 and Javascript engines becoming so powerful, we thought we'd see how well a pure web client could perform with desktop apps. And the answer was, surprisingly well. So with this release we now offer this additional way of working, which can be enabled by a simple bit of configuration. Here's a Linux desktop running in a tab in Chrome. And if you resize the browser window, the Linux desktop is resized by SGD too. Very cool! Oracle Unified Directory As I mentioned above, a lot of Oracle users already benefit from SGD. And a lot of Oracle customers use Oracle Unified Directory as their Enterprise and Carrier grade user directory. So it makes a lot of sense that SGD now supports this LDAP directory for both Authentication and as a means to determine which users get which applications, e.g. publish the engineering app to the guys in the Development group, but give everyone E-Business Suite to let them do their expenses. Summary With new devices, and faster 4G networking becoming more prevalent, the pressure for businesses to move to a increasingly mobile enterprise is stronger than ever. SGD is good for users, and even better for IT. By offering the user the ability to work from anywhere, and IT the control and security they need, everyone wins with SGD. To try this for yourself, download SGD 5.1 (look under Desktop Virtualization Products) from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud or if you're an existing customer, get it from My Oracle Support.  -FB

When I create a form and add a WebBrowser control to it and have it navigate to http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform the flash area says I need Adobe Flash Player installed. This is already installed in IE, but apparently not in the WebBrowser control. Is there are way to have the WebBrowser control run flash without having to manually go to the flash site and install. Flash is already installed the normal IE browser, just not the WebBrowser control in the forms app.

  • WYSIWYG editor for Windows forms

    - by Tired
Does anyone know of a good WYSIWYG editor for Windows forms. If I use a rich textbox, I need to handle pasting events, bold buttons, fonts etc, which is a nightmare. I’m currently using the HTML control, suggested by many sites, but I have a large form, with many tabs. Since I have to load up to 8 HTML controls, loading the form takes too long. Any help?

  • asp.net windows forms - best place to persist application data

    - by mikeh
For Windows.Forms, I have an application that needs to get a unique install id for each install from my server, and then persist this data so once registered, the install ID is included on all communications back to the server. The application is in occasional contact with the server. How can I persist this data on the client in a way that is not easily tampered with?

  • Custom Windows Forms Control not exporting functions, not showing in tools list, showing as Text

    - by flavour404
Hi, I have written a very simple control. C# Visual Studio 2008. Its output should be, and is a dll. I have added a reference to the dll within the project that I intend to use it with. The msdn article about how to write a control states that it should appear in the 'Add reference / projects' list, which it doesn't but I simply navigated to it under the 'browse' tab, went to the /bin folder and added the reference that way. I dragged it over to my toolbox, but it shows up as a 'Text:xhair_tool' and when i try and add it to a form, it won't, so what have I done wrong? It was created as a 'Windows forms control' project. It should export the one method which is 'Target' which return an array, as shown below. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Drawing; using System.Data; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace xhair_tool { public partial class xhair : UserControl { public xhair() { InitializeComponent(); } private void xhair_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { Graphics g = e.Graphics; Pen pen = new Pen(Color.Black, 1); SolidBrush redBrush = new SolidBrush(Color.Red); g.DrawLine(pen, 8, 0, 8, 7); g.DrawLine(pen, 8, 9, 8, 16); g.DrawLine(pen, 0, 8, 7, 8); g.DrawLine(pen, 9, 8, 16, 8); //ControlPaint.DrawReversibleLine(start, end, backColor) } /// <summary> /// Returns the point at the center of the crosshair /// </summary> /// <returns>int[x,y]</returns> public int[] Target { get { int[] _xy = new int[2]; _xy[0] = this.Left + 8; _xy[1] = this.Top + 8; return _xy; } } } } Thanks, R.

  • Is there an Unobtrusive Captcha for web forms?

    - by KP
What is the best unobtrusive CAPTCHA for web forms? One that does not involve a UI, rather a non-UI Turing test. I have seen a simple example of a non UI CAPTCHA like the Nobot control from Microsoft. I am looking for a CAPTCHA that does not ask the user any question in any form. No riddles, no what's in this image.
