  • Implementing RAID 1 in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop [closed]

    I found many resources on implementing RAID 1 using two disk drives. But, I am confused while implementing RAID 1 using 4 RAID disks. Can we use two disks for storage and two for mirroring using RAID 1? I couldn't find the way to create RAID disk using gparted tool in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version. Maybe, the desktop version doesn't support RAID. I am trying to implement RAID on the existing Ubuntu installation? I have added 4 X 2TB HDD in the system and I want RAID 1 to be implemented in these 4 drives with 2 drives for storage and 2 devices for mirroring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!     The IPV6 protocol has a feature called "Extended Unique Identifier" or EUI-64 witch in short uses the MAC address of the network card when choosing an IPV6 Adress. If you want to be anonymous on the internet (so that nobody can find you when you download something, etc.) you need this EUI-64 to be bipassed in order for the MAC address not to be discovered by harmful third parties on the internet and for privacy. How do you avoid EUI-64 MAC address usage in IPV6 selection in Ubuntu? Also for DHCP IPV6?

  • Flash audio problem; redirecting to Pulse?

    I am having a problem where the sound on flash objects other than YouTube videos are giving a strange distortion. It has a high pitched pulse sound every second or less that resembles skips on a record. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix this? I am running Xubuntu 11.10. I think I might have redirected everything to pulse using a config file but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. It used the lines 'type pulse' in it. If anyone knows what I am talking about and how to find that file or whether or not it has any relevance I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Video playback not working in Ubuntu 11.10

    (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Classic with Compiz, Nvidia graphics card) This problem occurs with every and all video, whether it's a Youtube video in Firefox, an AVI file in movie player, or any other video. Video simply does not work. When I start any kind of video, the image halts after a second or two. The sound, however, continues. Before it seemed that if I delete all the files in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/, then reboot, the video will play. However this is no longer the case. Manipulating files in that directory does nothing to help the situation. I am now no longer sure this is a gstreamer issue or something else. I am open to any and all possibilities. How can I get video playback to run smoothly on my machine?

    How can I move a library inside a project's source tree and compiling static binaries? I want to use a particular tool that utilizes ANCIENT binaries without upgrading it's API usage. This way I can use the old libraries inside the single binary without wrecking the local host environment. I am on nix with netbeans/eclipse/code::blocks. I don't have a problem reading, just looking for a starting point. Any thoughts?

    Are there any programs for Ubuntu that can pull TV streams from the Internet ? For example like on a blu-ray player you get BBC iplayer and hulu and youtube as apps, so is there an application that can do this ? I know XMBC can but its to fiddly and resource hungry, I just want the net TV apps and not the full media center. Boxee was great for this, it was a media center but had an interface for the apps not just sticking them in some strange menu like XBMC. Please let me know of anything you know of

Coming to news my site is kind of a mashup. It gathers data from various sites and presents them in more user friendly way for quick digestion and access. My problem here is that since the news part of the site can be found from other sites, my site could suffer in search rankings. Is there any solution to this. One thing I thought of is to put disallow on all the news ariticles pages, so google does not crawl them. Will this be helpful to me. When applying to google adsense does google crawl these pages (disallow) also.

    Often I can't play html5 videos at all until after a relogin. I have a lenovo t500 with an ati hd3650. My sense is that it's the pop up notice that kills fullscreen. The "popup" notice refers to the notice that always pops up in the upper right hand corner when ubuntu announces something. In this case it pops up when I change the volume and video immediately jumps out of fullscreen. The question is: can I do something about the lack of fullscreen in youtube html5 or is it something I just have to accept?
