My computer stays off when the power goes off. I want to change the BIOS setting so that it turns on after the power comes back on.
Can I change that from within Windows?
I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom).
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?
I have a virtual Windows 7 computer using VirtualBox on a Linux host. How can I mount this virtual pc's harddisk (VDI file) in Linux? It's a dynamic file, meaning that it only takes up as much space as is actually used.
I need to load the module pcspkr to Linux kernel often by sudo modprobe pcspkr.
It sometimes happens that something goes totally wrong such that I cannot stand the amount of decibels in my speakers.
I would like to
control the amount of decibels in my speakers
and to have a visual speaker in my top panel which indicates the amount of decibels in my computer at each given time
How can you solve at least one of the problems?
I'm trying to add a second hard drive within Virtual PC without formatting it.
I followed the instructions for adding a second hard drive but when I add go the the Computer ManagementDisk Management console it wants to format it.
The reason I want to add this second hard drive is that it has data on it that I want available to this instance of Virtual PC
i am unable to open some attachments which is in russian language using microsoft outlook 2003. this problem is with my 2-3 staffs. and i am able to open these mails in outlook express in same computer. what is the problem?
I bought an audiobook on iTunes on my computer. Can I, using the same account, download the file onto my phone, via the iTunes app, without being charged again? Or do I have to sync? I'm afraid to try it, because I know if I am charged, Apple won't give me a re-fund, even though I've already purchased the book.
If I have a web server on my home network I can connect to it from work with http://my.external.ip/whatever/ (assuming NAT and forwarding).
Naturally I have a bookmark in my browser that points to http://my.external.ip/whatever/ however when I use that bookmark on my home computer (also behind NAT) the link does not work because my firewall blocks it. (firewall is a old'ish Dlink)
What is the best way to fix this issue?
Hi all,
I just installed a Kingston 64 GB SSD into my laptop, replacing the old 80 GB 5400 RPM one. The drive starts up and works fine every other time. For example, if I'm running normally, and press "Restart", I get:
2100 Initialization error on HDD0.
I turn off the computer manually, restart, and...it boots into Ubuntu again. This happens every other time without fail...anyone know what the problem could be?
Whenever I plug in my iPhone into my work computer Word 2007 decides it wants to start up.
How do I make it stop? Is it a registry deal, or is there an Windows interface that I'm unaware of. I'm on Win XP SP3 by the way.
Thanks
How can I get the Google Chrome web browser on my TV for under $100? ($200 MAX)
I have a TV with HDMI and component inputs (but no bluetooth so firmware modding is out.)
I want the solution to work with bluetooth peripherals--I already have a wireless Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse.
I don't want a laptop or a desktop computer, unless it's in the general form factor of an HTPC or Mac Mini.
Is there a way to make this happen?
Hi,
My Firefox 3.6.3 started displaying weird error messages when I load pretty much every page (a few per page):

Any ideas how can I locate which plugin, add-on etc. is causing this?
I have outlook 2007 installed (12.0.6514.5000) on my work computer.
I just installed Bowie to allow integration with outlook and TFS.
Most of the features for that plugin are based on the Ribbon. But I don't have the ribbon. I have the old menu and toolbar structure.
How do I switch to the ribbon view?
We have a teacher that has a project for doing some basic film editing with windows movie maker. We loaded the avi file onto the computer and Windows is trying to install a codec but can't. I assume I need to install some type of codec pack. I'm looking for suggestions on a codec pack that I can easily deploy through a Win2003 server to WinXP clients.
Ideally, this codec pack shouldn't break anything else and be easily removed if need be.
Since I installed Windows 8 Preview on my personal computer, during the installation of some programs and drivers(Windows 7 ones) started to pop me a message warning that .Net Framework 3.5 was needed:
I could use "Install this feature", start to download some dependencies(300MB) and that's it, but I don't want to have to download it every time I want to enable this feature on every machine that I install Windows 8.
There is some way to install .Net 3.5 on Windows 8 without having to download the entire Framework from Microsoft?
I'd like to record what I hear coming out of the main audio jack on my Mac. Nothing fancier than that.
I'm aware of Audio Hijack Pro but that really does much more than I'm looking for and comes with a steep price tag. If it's the only tool that can do the job that's fine but I was hoping to find something that simply captured all audio coming from the computer and dumped it to a file.
Any suggestions?
This started a few weeks ago and we thought it was a virus so we checked every computer and all though 50%(Yeah, that's right) were infected once they were cleaned the problem didn't go away. It's really frustrating so I want to figure it out so I need suggestions on how to find the culprit. I think the router has logging but it logs everyone so it's hard to tell and I might be able to setup a proxy but again it's hard to tell when and what to monitor. What are your suggestions?
I have two computer, both of them are Windows XP SP3 32-bit and running the same version of Skype and login with the same account

I have backed up my failing hard drive using a ddrescue Linux command to two partition files - p1 and p2 5GB and 90GB each.
Now, without saving this back to an actual disk - is there a way for me to boot my old computer virtually, using Virtual PC or Parallels or VMWare? How?
Thank you.
Sometimes when I click on the button on the language bar for the IME pad, it won't show up. Is there any other way to get it to show up again besides restarting the computer?
OS: WinXP SP3
When pressing win+E or open Windows Explorer, under My Computer, usually there are several disk drives. But somehow they just disappeared.
If I type c:\ in address bar, then the disk will re-appear in the tree though. How to get them back to normal? Thanks.
I accidentally renamed the username of my account on my Mac (running OS X 10.4.11) and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc., and the new one).
Is it possible to copy my settings from my original account into this new user name? When I open my computer, it defaults to this new account, and I cannot gain access to all my work documents, mail settings etc.
When I play m4b files on my computer, they open with iTunes. I can stop the file, but I cannot resume the file from within iTunes. In order to pick up where I left off, I have to open the file again.
How can I resume where I left off from within iTunes? Is there another program that will play m4b files and resume from where you left off?
I have Mini DV tapes, Hi8 or something lol. I have a camera that will not play them back, too choppy and cleaning has no effect. Is there a player, or adapter that can just read them into a computer? Thanks.
