• "No such file or directory"?

  Ok, so I have a VDS laying around, and I thought I would turn it into a TF2 game server. When I connect to my server through PuTTY, and use wget to download the package "hldsupdatetool.bin" from Steampowered.com. I go to run it and it says "No such file or directory found". When I use "ls" to see what files are in directory, it lists "hldsupdatetool.bin" as being in the directory. So, why is it saying it's not there? This has been a headache for the past 2 days. • unmanaged VPS account; Beginners questions

  I have a classified website which uses MySQL, PHP, Solr (java) etc etc... I wonder where I should start after purchasing a VPS package from my provider. There are first of all several packages, I am going with Linux because as far as I know it is the most stable system. But I have never used Linux before! What is Ubuntu, and which version of it should I get? Whats 64bit Ubuntu then? How do I install php, javascript, mysql, java and all that? What is debian, do I need it? What is apache, do I need that? And most importantly, what applications do I need, that I must have? (I mean applications which a beginner would never know was needed, what do you recommend?) After getting the vps, how do I even access it? Do I type in some kind of IP into the browser? Or is it by ftp program? How do I access the so called "terminal"? Please guide me, I am completely new to Linux and VPS! Thanks

• Linux 'top' utility widly inaccurate (more so for multi-CPU/core hardware)?

  Hi all. After using 'top' for long time, albeit basically, I have grown to distrust it's '% CPU' column reports. I have a 8-core (quad core Intel i7 920 with hyperthreading) hardware, and see some wild numbers when running a process that should not use more than 5% overall. top happily reports 50%, and I suspect it is not so. My question is, is it a known fact that it's inaccurate when several CPUs/cores are present? I used 'mpstat' from the 'sysstat' package, and it's showings are much more conservative, certainly within my expectations. I did press '1' for 'top' to switch it to show all the core and us/sy/io stats, but the numbers are substantially higher than with 'mpstat'... I know that my expectations can be unfound as well, but my gut feeling tells me 'top' is wrong! :-) The reason I need to know is because the process I am monitoring only guarantees quality of service with CPU usage "less than 80%" (however vague that sounds), and I need to know how much headroom I have left. It's a streaming server.

• Do I need to install mssql before I can use mssql.so with php on unix?

  I didn't install any MSSQL instance on my localhost that runs windows. I just used the xampp package and uncommented the modules used for mssql. The mssql server resides on another Windows Server so I believe I only needed a simple connector module. I hoped that it would be the same for Unix. But whenever I open my site on the unix production server, (i use codeigniter btw) the logs tell me it stops script execution after Database Driver Class Initialized. I am not really familiar on installing apache and friends on unix and I wasn't responsible on how the server was set-up. But it turns out that there is no mssql.so found on the php modules directory so i tried to google for one. While the forums are telling me to just compile the script, I couldn't just do that simply as I have no write access to the server and plus it seems upon installation of php, phpize didn't get installed with it too. Hope someone can shed light to me regarding this. I think its just easier if I can get a mssql.so for PHP 4.4.4

All works well from that side. I use eix to check on software versions for upgrades but have hit a problem where eix will see an available version ahead of what is available on the binserver. • struts2-json-plugin not retrieving json data from action class for Struts-JQuery-Plugin grid

  Hello, Im having an issue getting json working with the struts-jquery-plugin-2.1.0 I have included the struts2-json-plugin-2.1.8.1 in my classpath as well. Im sure that I have my struts-jquery-plugin configured correctly because the grid loads, but doesnt load the data its supposed to get from the action class that has been json'ized. The documentation with the json plugin and the struts-jquery plugin leaves ALOT of gaps that I cant even find with examples/tutorials, so I come to the community at stackoverflow. My action class has a property called gridModel thats a List with a basic POJO called Customer. Customer is a pojo with one property, id. I have a factory that supplies the populated List to the actions List property which i mentioned called gridModel. • spring mvc 3.0 small web application not quite working

  Hi, i'm creating a very simple (hello World quality) web application using spring mvc 3.0. when deploying the application on tomcat 6.0.26 and i try to open http://localhost:8080/protoweb/helloWorld.html i get 404, resource /protoweb/WEB-INF/jsp/helloWorld.jsp is not available.   Hi every one I came to know that google maps has deprecated its previous version API v1 and introduced a new version of google maps API v2. I tried out one example by following some links in google any how i am pretty sure that i got the api key correctly by providing the exact hash key code and managed to get the correct api key. • IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

  I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project.   Hello In my current company, i am doing a PoC on how we can write a file downloader utility. We have to use socket programming(TCP/IP) for downloading the files. One of the requirements of the client is that a file(which will be large in size) should be transfered in chunks for example if we have a file of 5Mb size then we can have 5 threads which transfer 1 Mb each. I have written a small application which downloads a file. Small Explanation what this file does This class finds the size of the file to be fetched from Sender Depending upon the size of the file it finds the start and end position till the bytes needs to be read. It starts n number of threads giving each thread start,end, sequence number and a list which all the threads share. Each thread reads the number of bytes and creates a ByteArrayWrapper. ByteArrayWrapper objects are added to the list Then i have while loop which basically make sure that all threads have done their work finally it sorts the list based on the sequence number. then the bytes are joined, and a complete byte array is formed which is converted to a file. In this code i am not able to see the benefit. 2) How should i decide how many threads should i create ? 3) Are their any opensource libraries which does that 4) The file which file receiver receives is valid and not corrupted but checksum (i used FileUtils of common-io) does not match. Whats the problem? 5) This code gives out of memory when used with large file(above 100 Mb) i.e. because byte array which is created. How can i avoid? • NullPointerException, Collections not storing data?

I have a Nullpointerexception at the line indicate by asterisks. Which would suggest to me that the Collections are not storing data properly. Although when I check their size they seem correct.   Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid. • Android: restful API service

  Hey, I'm looking to make a service which I can use to make calls to a web based rest api. I've spent a couple of days looking through stackoverflow.com, reading books and looking at articles whilst playing about with some code and I can't get anything which I'm happy with. Basically I want to start a service on app init then I want to be able to ask that service to request a url and return the results. In the meantime I want to be able to display a progress window or something similar. I've created a service currently which uses IDL, I've read somewhere that you only really need this for cross app communication, so think these needs stripping out but unsure how to do callbacks without it. Also when I hit the post(Config.getURL("login"), values) the app seems to pause for a while (seems weird - thought the idea behind a service was that it runs on a different thread!) Currently I have a service with post and get http methods inside, a couple of AIDL files (for two way communication), a ServiceManager which deals with starting, stopping, binding etc to the service and I'm dynamically creating a Handler with specific code for the callbacks as needed. I don't want anyone to give me a complete code base to work on, but some pointers would be greatly appreciated; even if it's to say I'm doing it completely wrong. I'm pretty new to Android and Java dev so if there are any blindingly obvious mistakes here - please don't think I'm a rubbish developer, I'm just wet behind the ears and would appreciate being told exactly where I'm going wrong.   This is the strangest problem I've faced in flash so far. I have no idea what's causing it. I can provide a .swf if someone wants to actually see it, but I'll describe it as best I can. I'm creating bullets for a tank object to shoot. The tank is a child of the document class. The way I am creating the bullet is: var bullet:Bullet = new Bullet(); (parent as MovieClip).addChild(bullet); The bullet itself simply moves itself in a direction using code like this.x += 5; The problem is the bullets will trace for their creation and destruction at the correct times, however the bullet is sometimes not visible until half way across the screen, sometimes not at all, and sometimes for the whole traversal. Oddly removing the timer I have on bullet creation seems to solve this. The timer is implemented as such: if(shot_timer == 0) { shoot(); // This contains the aforementioned bullet creation method shot_timer = 10; My enter frame handler for the tank object controls the timer and decrements it every frame if it is greater than zero. • Doctrine MYSQL 150+ tables: generating models works, but not vice-versa?

  I can generate my models and schema.yml file based on an existing database. But when I try to do it the other way around using Doctrine::createTablesFromModels() i get an error: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 So either of these works: Doctrine::generateYamlFromDb(APPPATH . 'models/yaml'); Doctrine::generateYamlFromModels(APPPATH . 'models/yaml', APPPATH . 'models'); Doctrine::generateModelsFromYaml(APPPATH . 'models/yaml', APPPATH . 'models', array('generateTableClasses' => true)); Doctrine::generateModelsFromDb(APPATH .
