• How to establish a two-way communication between Activity and Service in different process?

  Hi everyone, I'm working on establishing a two-way communication between an Activity and a Service which runs in a different process. Querying the process from the Activity is no big deal. But I want the process to notify the Activity on events. The idea behind it is this: the service runs independently from the actual app. It queries a webserver periodically. If a new task is found on the webserver the process should notify the activity. I found this thread over at AndDev.org but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've been messing around with BroadcastReceiver. I've implemented an interface which should notify the Activity but the problem is that the listener is always null since the Broadcast from the process is done via Intent, hence the class that extends BroadcastReceiver will be newly instantiated. How can I establish a 2-way communication? This has to be possible. Thanks for any help, steff

  Install Shield Premier 2009: Basic MSI Project I have a dll that is supposed to be removed during uninstall. But this dll is being used by explorer.exe, it is used for generating windows explorer context menus with their icons(same as the menu items, icons we see when we right click on any file/folder and see the WinRAR items, icons). Manually, I have to unregister the dll and close explorer.exe from task manager and again run explorer.exe. Then I can delete the dll. So from Install Shield how to delete this dll without any problem(as we see while uninstalling WinRAR or other software there is no problem no message boxes shown and the related context menu icons also removed).

• Tool for parsing smtp logs that finds bounces

  Our web application sends e-mails. We have lots of users, and we get lots of bounces. For example, user changes company and his company e-mail is no longer valid. To find bounces, I parse smtp log file with log parser. Some bounces are great, like 550+#[email protected]. There is [email protected] in bounce. But some do not have e-mail in error message, like 550+No+such+recipient. I have created simple ruby script that parses logs (uses log parser) to find which mail caused something like 550+No+such+recipient. I am just surprised that I could not find a tool that does it. I have found tools like zabbix and splunk for log analysis, but they look like overkill for such simple task. Anybody knows a tool that would parse smtp logs, find bounces and e-mails that cause them? Edit: smtp server is microsoft smtp server.

• A tool to find and fix incomplete source code documentation

  I have several finished, older PHP projects with a lot of includes that I would like to document in javadoc/phpDocumentor style. While working through each file manually and being forced to do a code review alongside the documenting would be the best thing, I am, simply out of time constraints, interested in tools to help me automate the task as much as possible. The tool I am thinking about would ideally have the following features: Parse a PHP project tree and tell me where there are undocumented files, classes, and functions/methods (i.e. elements missing the appropriate docblock comment) Provide a method to half-way easily add the missing docblocks by creating the empty structures and, ideally, opening the file in an editor (internal or external I don't care) so I can put in the description. Optional: Automatic recognition of parameter types, return values and such. But that's not really required. The language in question is PHP, though I could imagine that a C/Java tool might be able to handle PHP files after some tweaking. Thanks for your great input!

• ASP.NET MVC AuthorizeAttribute passing values to ActionMethod?

  Hi everyone I'm only a newcomer to ASP.NET MVC and am not sure how to achieve a certain task the "right way". Essentially, I store the logged in userId in HttpContext.User.Identity and have written an EnhancedAuthorizeAttribute to perform some custom authorization. In the overriden OnAuthorization method, my domain model hits the database to ensure the current user id can access the passed in routeValue "BatchCode". The prototype is: ReviewGroup GetReviewGroupFromBatchCode(string batchCode); It will return null if the user can't access the ReviewGroup and the OnAuthorization then denies access. Now, I know the decorated action method will only get executed if OnAuthorization passes, but I don't want to hit the database a second time to get the ReviewGroup again. I am thinking of storing the ReviewGroup in HttpContext.Items["reviewGroup"] and accessing this from the controller at the moment. Is this a feasible solution, or am I on the wrong path? Thanks!

  Hi guys, I have been charged with the task of analysing the log table of my company's website. This table contains a user's click path throughout the website for a given session. My company is looking to understand/spot trends based on the 'click paths' of our users. In doing so, identify groups of users that take on a certain 'click path' based on age/geography and so on. As you can tell from the title, I am completely new to BI and its capabilities so I was wondering: Are our objectives attainable? How should I go about doing this? I am currently reading books online as well as other e-books I have found. All signs seem to suggest this is possible via sequence clustering. Although the exact implementation and tweaks involved are currently lost on me. Therefore, if anyone has first hand experience in such an undertaking, I would be awesome if you could share it here.   i have two computer PC1 and PC2 in PC1 i have a .Net C# dll file that provides operations on sql server database. my question is - "how can i use this dll file on PC2 through VBScript within Outlook 2003". I tried this same task on PC1 and i succeeded using the CreateObject("dllfilename.classname") method of VBScript within outlook 2003. but now i want to use that dll file on PC2. is there any efficient way by which i can use that dll on PC2 without having to copy dll on PC2.

  Lets say that I would like to construct a list (L2) by appending elements of another list (L) one by one. The result should be exactly the same as the input. This task is silly, but it'll help me understand how to recurse through a list and remove certain elements. I have put together the following code: create(L, L2) :- (\+ (L == []) -> L=[H|T], append([H], create(T, L2), L2);[]). calling it by create([1,2,3,4], L2) returns L2 = [1|create([2,3,4], **)\. which is not a desired result.

• Most effective way of drawing 4 lines in an iPhone app?

  basic question, but I'm unsure. Not looking for code as an answer. I want to draw 4 short lines 1px lines on a view. What is the best way to approach this task? Options:- Load an image of the line, then create 4 UIImageViews with it. Create my own subclass of a UIView that draws a line in the draw rect method. Draw elsewhere on another view, another UIImageView that has an UIImage inside it (is this possible?) Another way? Thanks Ross

  Hello, guys! I have a problem and I dont know what is better solution. Okay, I have 2 tables: posts(id, title), posts_tags(post_id, tag_id). I have next task: must select posts with tags ids for example 4, 10 and 11. Not exactly, post could have any other tags at the same time. So, how I could do it more optimized? Creating temporary table in each query? Or may be some kind of stored procedure? In the future, user could ask script to select posts with any count of tags (it could be 1 tag only or 10 at the same time) and I must be sure that method that I will choose would be the best method for my problem. • Visual Artifacts in Visual Studio 2010

  I'm using VS 2010 on Windows Server 2003, running on a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. VS 2010 runs fine, except for persistent and random screen re-drawing issues. Samples of these are here. These artifacts occur as the mouse moves over items that highlight on a mouse-over event, while scrolling, and when switching tabs. VS 2008 has non of these issues, so I assume that it is related to VS 2010's use of WPF. Could it be that my video card or driver is not up to the task of rendering WPF? Some other WPF applications (not Silverlight) also have some of these screen repainting problems. I have tried a variety of settings in System Properties--Advanced--Performance Options--Visual Effects, and in the related "Advanced" tab, Processor Scheduling is adjusted for best performance of programs. • Executing multiple commands from a Windows cmd script

  I'm trying to write a Windows cmd script to perform several tasks in series. However, it always stops after the first command in the script. The command it stops after is a maven build (not sure if that's relevant). How do I make it carry on and run each task in turn please? Installing any software or configuring the registry etc is completely out of the question - it has to work on a vanilla Windows XP installation I'm afraid. Ideally I'd like the script to abort if any of the commands failed, but that's a "nice to have", not essential. Thanks.

• What CPAN module can send all warnings and errors to a log file?

  I'm maintaining some website code that currently dumps all errors and warnings into the apache log. This is a problem for me as i cannot access that due to lack of root. As such I am looking to redirect all warnings and errors to a specified log file under my control. I'd like to do so without preventing those messages from going through their usual patch of execution. Now, before i spend a lot of time fiddling with the Perl internals and possibly breaking things unawares I thought I'd look for a CPAN module that does this. However, I either do not know how to properly search for this, or I am overlooking something and thus cannot find any module that seems suitable. Thus my asking here: What CPAN module would i use for this task?

  Hi Guys, Like everyone of us, I have my own dreams about developing the next cool product that will be adopted by many users and become industry standard. Surprisingly, I find that the most challenging task is to keep my website up & running. My site is being hacked again and again no matter what I do - I blocked the FTP connections, changed the Joomla (CMS) database table names, installed all latest patches and what not. The web site supports the product (over 1800 users now...) by generating licenses, support forums, documentation, galleries etc. The product which is a winforms application cannot be marketed without this web site. My question: Do you have any innovative idea about securing joomla based web sites or what is the best secured web hosting you know. currently i'm hosting my site at ixwebhosting and i like them very much but obviously i can't do any serious marketing being hacked over and over again Thank you very much, Adi Barda

• Memory footprint of a parsed XML file in Classic ASP?

  Anyone know of a way to find out the amount of memory/size of a XMLDocument once it has parsed a XML file? I've been doing "beer mat" calculations so far but have been asked to come up with some more legit numbers through monitoring some how. I need to create about 1500 XML files (via FreeThreadedXMl-DOM object), which verge between 3-9K in size and store them in Application vars but our SysAdmin is worried about us gobbling up too much memory. Other than the crude method of booting up a fresh IIS instance and then loading everything in and monitoring before and after memory usage in Task Manager I can't think of a way of doing it with a bit more accuracy.

• IE browser doesn't close and file download popup needs focus

  Hii all , I am trying to to click on a link after it is active which again produces a popup ( file download) after clicking. Here i have 2 problems 1) I start the code and leave it .what the code does is -after long process -it waits for the link to be active .Once the link is active it clicks on the link and a download popups opens (if everything goes well) and then it hangs there ( showing yellow flashing in the task bar which mean i have to click on the explorer for it to process whatever is next ).every time i have to click on the IE whenever the download popup appears .Is there a way to handle this or am i doing some wrong ? 2) The next problem is even if i click on the IE .the IE doesn't get close even though i write ie.close . my code is below : ## if the link is active ie.link(:text,a).click_no_wait prompt_message = "Do you want to open or save this file?" window_title = "File Download" save_dialog =WIN32OLE.new("AutoItX3.Control") save_dialog.WinGetText(window_title) save_dialog_obtained =save_dialog.WinWaitActive(window_title) save_dialog.WinKill(window_title) # end #' #some more code -normal puts statements # ie.close ie is hanging up for some strange reason ..?

• Python: wxpython wx.media.MediaCtrl - millisecond seek capability

  I've been searching for a media player that can display sub-second resolution in videos. Some pointed me to the Frame stepping functionality in MPC, but I'd like even more than that. I know from previous experience with wxPython that the wx.media.MediaCtrl both displays and (as fast as i can click with the mouse anyway) stops the video with millisecond-precision. The code is here, and runs no-problem with python +wxpython module. Has anyone come across other video players that handle this functionality, or has seen a more robust/developed video player written with wxPython that allows for this level of precision? This is possibily a one-off task so I'd like to use existing solutions if possible. Thanks.

• How to re-use a thread in Java ?

  I am a building a console Sudoku Solver where the main objective is raw speed. I now have a ManagerThread that starts WorkerThreads to compute the neibhbors of each cell. So one WorkerThread is started for each cell right now. How can I re-use an existing thread that has completed its work? The Thread Pool Pattern seems to be the solution, but I don't understand what to do to prevent the thread from dying once its job has been completed. ps : I do not expect to gain much performance for this particular task, just want to experiment how multi-threading works before applying it to the more complex parts of the code.   I'm facing a problem which is probably extremely common in game-design. Let's assume that we've got a 2D world The world's size is M x N rect The world may contain some items in it The items have (x,y) coords The world can be browsed via a window that is physically (m x n) large. The browser window can be zoomed in / out The browser window can be panned up/down + left right, while in the extents of the world's rect. How should I go about implementing this? I'm especially concerned about the browser window. Can anyone recommend any good reads ? This is not a homework - it's more of a task which I've set myself to complete.

• out of memory issue in asp .net mvc application

  Hi, I have got one wierd issue. I am working on an asp .net mvc application. I have a refresh button that build some data and view models in the controller code, and returns the partial view back. Well this refresh does work good the very first time. But when i try to click my refresh button again, a javascript alert comes saying "out of memory at line 56" I checked my task manager to see on whats happening. I ahve a 3GB memory and when this error alert shows up the used memory is 1.41 GB. Its normal usage as it looks like. But I dont know why it shows the javascript error alert. This problem happens in my local workstation where I am doing developement of this application. Any thoughts or comments to trouble shoot or solve this issue is appreciated. I ma using IE7.

• Excluding files from being deployed with Capistrano while still under version control with Git

  I want to start testing the JavaScript in my Rails apps with qUnit and I'm wondering how to keep the test JavaScript and test runner HTML page under version control (I'm using Git, of course) but keep them off the production server when I deploy the app with Capistrano. My first thought is to let Capistrano send all the code over as usual including the test files, and write a task to delete them at the end of the deployment process. This seems like sort of a hack, though. Is there a cleaner way to tell Capistrano to ignore certain parts of the repository when deploying?

• prevent multiple login with same login credentials in php

  My website has premium videos, for which users have to pay to watch it. I am sending a random user name and password to the user's email id when the payment is completed. Then I want to assure no more than one user use that login credentials simultaneously. For that I use a login_status column in database table with login credentials and change it to 1 when one user login and change to 0 when user log out. But the problem is, if the user close browser or network connection loss may happened will not update database. Then login_will be 1 undefinitely and no one can use that login credentials again. Is there any idea to accomplish my task?
