  • Simple Mouse Move Event in F# with Winforms

    This evening I had the pleasure of reading one of ThomasP’s blog posts on first class events. It was an excellent read, and I thought I would make a brief derivative of his post to explore some of the basics. In Thomas’s post he has a form with an ellipse on it that when he clicks on the ellipse it pops up a message box with the button clicked… awesome. Something that got me on the post though was the code similar to the one below… // React to Mouse Move events on the form let evtMessages = frm.MouseMove |> Event.map (fun mi -> mi.Location.ToString()) |> Event.map (sprintf "Hey, you clicked on the ellipse.\nUsing: %s") |> Event.add (MessageBox.Show >> ignore) The MessageBox is a function with a string passed into it. What if I wanted to rather change a mutable value holder instead, how would the syntax go for that? Immediately the thought came to me of anonymous functions. I’ve used them before to do something like this… let HelloPerson personName = "Hello " + personName |> fun(x) -> Console.WriteLine(x) So using the same approach I adapted the event code to instead of showing a Message Box with a string passed in to it, to rather change the forms header. |> Event.map (sprintf "Your mouse position is %s") |> Event.add(fun(x) -> frm.Text <- x) Okay… it looks a bit weird with the –> x <- syntax, but makes sense and works… The next thing I wanted to do was change Thomas’s code sample from having an ellipse, and reacting to the position of the mouse and click, to rather trigger the event whenever the mouse moved. This simple involved removing some filtering code. Finally I wanted the code to work as a FSharp Project without having to run through the F# interactive. To achieve this I just needed to find out how to trigger the window event loop.     I am starting to use virtual functions, and i am programming a simple text game, my question is this, if i have a virtual function called spec_abil with in a Super class called rpg_class. If you allow the player to class what class they want to play, say a mage class, a archer class, and a warrior class, which all have their own spec_abil function. How do you write it so that the program knows which one to use depending on the chosen class.

  • Unity desktop became transparent after installing VBox Guest Additions [closed]

    I have installed Ubuntu Desktop x64 12.01.1 as guest in VirtualBox. When I installed VirtualBox Guest Additions, Unity desktop (top bar and left program icons bar) becomes invisible. The problem was found in VirtualBox 4.1.20 and still exist in 4.1.22. Reinstalling doesn't help. Maybe someone knows how to overcome this issue? As Django 1.4.1 isn't available in Precise I am wondering if it is best to: Package up Django 1.4.1 and drop it in my ppa OR write a script that wgets Django at build time and installs.     I'm running 14.04 on a Lenovo Y500. I want to get multi-touch gestures running, specifically a three-finger swipe to switch desktops. I would like to keep using the Unity interface, so I can't use touchegg, and I have a buttonless touchpad, so easystroke is not a good candidate either. Is there another third party program that will allow me to use buttonless three finger gestures, or some config hack that will accomplish the same thing?

    I use a program called YUMI from pendrivelinux.com to load all my Linux distros from a USB thumbdrive. They just updated their installer to support the newest 12.04.1 released a couple days ago. It's looking for a ISO name of ubuntu-12.04.*dvd-i386.iso but the file I downloaded from the Ubuntu homepage is named ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso. Can I simply change the name of my ISO, or is there a difference in the ISO?

SharePoint logs Each and every exceptions with ULS. SharePoint Administrators should know ULS and it's very useful when anything goes wrong. but when you ask any SharePoint 2007 Administrator to check log file then most of them will Kill you. Because read and understand the log file is not so easy. Imagine open a plain text file of 20 MB in NotePad and go thru line by line. Now Microsoft developed a tool "ULS Viewer" to view those Log files in easily readable format. This tools also helps to filter events based on exception priority. (Path : ULSLogger\ULSLogger\bin\Debug\) Right Click on Project -> Properties -> Select "Build" Tab -> Under "Platform Target" option select "x64". It'll log the message on the log file. Make sure you are using Farm Administrator User ID. You can play with Message and TraceSeverity as required. Now Open ULS Viewer -> File -> Open From -> ULS -> Select First Option to open the default ULS Log. It's Uls RealTime and will show all log entries in readable table format. Right Click on a row and select "Filter By This Item". Select "Event ID" and enter value "700" that we used in the application. Click Ok and now you'll see the Exceptions/Logs which logged by our application.   If you want to see High Priority Messages only then Click Icons except Red Cross Icon on the Toolbar. The tooltip will tell what's the icons used for.
