  • How to get total number of potential results in Lucene

    - by Slace
I'm using lucene on a site of mine and I want to show the total result count from a query, for example: Showing results x to y of z But I can't find any method which will return me the total number of potential results. I can only seem to find methods which you have to specify the number of results you want, and since I only want 10 per page it seems logical to pass in 10 as the number of results. Or am I doing this wrong, should I be passing in say 1000 and then just taking the 10 in the range that I require?

  • Unified Parallel C - examples and list of extensions

    - by osgx
Hello Where can I find examples of code, written in "Unified Parallel C"? I also interested in normative documents about this language (standards, reference manuals, online-accessible books and courses). What extensions were added to C to get UPC? Is this dialect alive or dead?

  • What is a good metaphor for c memory management?

    - by fsmc
I'm trying to find a good metaphor to explain memory allocation, initialization and freeing in c to a non technical audience. I've heard pass-by-reference/value talked about quite well with postal service usage, but not so much for allocation/deallocation. So for I've thought about using the idea of renting a space might work, but I wonder if the SO crew can provide something better.

  • Answered: Selecting even table rows from a table element

    - by mvrak
The issue I am having is: How do I go from a variable pointing at an element to using CSS selectors? I want to make this work: function highlight(table) {$(table " > :even").toggleClass('highlight');} where table is a reference to a table element. I don't want answers that tell me to use $('#table') because that defeats the point of the generality I am trying to make. Thanks

  • Session vs singleton pattern

    - by chobo
Hi, I have a web application where I would like to pull user settings from a database and store them for Global access. Would it make more sense to store the data in a Singleton, or a Session object? What's the difference between the two? Is it better to store the data as an object reference or break it up into value type objects (ints and strings)? Thanks!

  • SQL Server. Stored procedure to get the biweekly periods

    - by Yada
I'm currently trying to write a stored procedure that can compute the biweekly periods when a date is passed in as a parameter. The business logic: the first Monday of the year is first day of the biweekly period. For example in 2010: period period_start period_end 1 2010-01-04 2010-01-17 2 2010-01-18 2010-01-31 3 2010-02-01 2010-02-14 .... 26 2010-12-20 2011-01-02 Passing today's date of 2010-12-31 will return 26, 2010-12-20 and 2011-01-02. I'm not too strong in T-SQL. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

  • Waiting for a subset of threads in a Java ThreadPool

    - by David Semeria
Let's say I have a thread pool containing X items, and a given task employs Y of these items (where Y is much smaller than X). I want to wait for all of the threads of a given task (Y items) to finish, not the entire thread pool. If the thread pool's execute() method returned a reference to the employed thread I could simply join() to each of these Y threads, but it doesn't. Does anyone know of an elegant way to accomplish this? Thanks.

  • XML allows for external entities; what about XHTML?

    - by xtofl
This question about web page 'inclusion' triggered my curiosity. The XML allows you to specify a reference to an 'external' portion. Can you do the same in XHTML, then? XML example: <!ENTITY foo SYSTEM "http://www.mydomain.com/logo.gif" NDATA GIF87A> ... <SOMETHING>&foo;</SOMETHING>

  • Iterating through struct fieldnames in MATLAB.

    - by Noio
My question is easily summarized as: "Why does the following not work?" teststruct = struct('a',3,'b',5,'c',9) fields = fieldnames(teststruct) for i=1:numel(fns) fns(i) teststruct.(fns(i)) end output: ans = 'a' ??? Argument to dynamic structure reference must evaluate to a valid field name. Especially since teststruct.('a') does work. And fns(i) prints out ans = 'a'. I can't get my head around it.

  • Does the iPhone 3G/3Gs camera put metadata in its images? (and how do you get it?)

    - by Ben Collins
I've been trying to figure how whether the iPhone (either 3G or 3Gs) camera puts metadata into it's images. Anecdotally, it appears that it does (e.g., I've seen images posted on the web that included a bunch of metadata), but I can't find reference to it anywhere in the SDK documentation. So....does anyone have a definitive answer? Also, if there is metadata, how do I get at it?

  • Call function based off of a string in Lisp

    - by powerj1984
I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function: ("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2") I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but this isn't possible because something like (funcall (second args)...) receives "dot" and not dot as the function name. I tried variations of this function: (defun remove-quotes (s) (setf (aref s 0) '"")) to no avail, before realizing that the quotes were not really a part of the string. Is there a simple way to do this, or should I just check each string and then call the appropriate function? Thanks!

  • Changing website favicon dynamically

    - by rwmnau
I have a web application that's branded according to the user that's currently logged in. I'd like to change the favicon of the page to be the logo of the private label, but I'm unable to find any code or any examples of how to do this. Has anybody successfully done this before? I'm picturing having a dozen icons in a folder, and the reference to which favicon.ico file to use is just generated dynamically along with the HTML page. Thoughts?

  • What happened to the CSS Checker tool?

    - by Kyle Sevenoaks
I used it before, and was reminded of it when someone asked about a tool to strip unsused CSS from a stylsheet. I went back to the link, but it's gone, what happened to it? Is it gone forever or does anyone know of a backup? Or a similar tool that can still check your CSS against the HTML and strip orphan CSS. Thanks. Link (to broken site for reference).

  • Will this be garbage collected in JVM?

    - by stjowa
I am running the following code every two minutes via a Timer: object = new Object(this); Potentially, this is a lot of objects being created and a lot of objects being overwritten. Do the overwritten objects get garbage collected, even with a reference to itself being used in the newly created object? I am using JDK 1.6.0_13. Thanks for the help.

  • Why can't i define recursive variable in code block?

    - by senia
    Why can't i define a variable recursively in a code block? scala> { | val fibs: Stream[Int] = 1 #:: fibs.scanLeft(1){_ + _} | } <console>:9: error: forward reference extends over definition of value fibs val fibs: Stream[Int] = 1 #:: fibs.scanLeft(1){_ + _} ^ scala> val fibs: Stream[Int] = 1 #:: fibs.scanLeft(1){_ + _} fibs: Stream[Int] = Stream(1, ?) lazy keyword solves this problem, but i can't understand why it works without a code block but throws a compilation error in a code block.

  • best way to write a-> ..->[a] recursive functions in haskell

    - by Roman A. Taycher
So I keep having this small problem where I have something like func :: a -> b -> [a] -- or basically any a-> ...-> [a] where ... is any types -> func x y = func' [x] y -- as long as they are used to generate a list of [a] from x func' :: [a] -> b -> [a] func = undefined --situation dependant generates a list from each element and returns it as one long list should I keep it like this? should I use func' hidden by a where? should I only use the [a] - b - [a] version and leave the responsibility of passing [variable] to the callee? I might well need to compose these functions and might want to mess around with the order so I'm leaning towards option 3. What do you think?

  • Get spiral index from location

    - by ricick
I'm using Alberto Santini's solution to this question to get a spiral grid reference based on an items index Algorithm for iterating over an outward spiral on a discrete 2D grid from the origin It's not the accepted solution, but it's the best for my needs as it avoids using a loop. It's working well, but what I want now is to do the inverse. Based on a known x and y coordinate return the index of a location. This is as a precursor to returning the items surrounding a given location.
