• Need Sql Server Hosting 50GB or More

  Hi I am looking for a Hosting solution (Dedicated or Shared) which will allow me to host a SQL Server database service (Not SQL Express but the Web edition). The size of my database might grow to 50GB or more. The web application will offer more reads than write operations. I also need daily backups and raid 1 storage. Is there a reliable and economical hosting company that would provide this? Additional Question: If there is a easy way to host MS SQL on Amazon EC2 service, it will be preferable.

• Using an iPad or Nexus 7 as an Ubuntu Second Monitor

  Is there any way to use an iPad mini or a Nexus 7 as a second monitor through a cable? I dont want something like vnc, I need it to work through the usb cable (or any other cable). I imagine that the iPad will get a lot of hate around here, the reason why I am considering it is because of the larger screen (compared to the nexus 7). I think its self explanatory that I need this to work with ubuntu (as I am posting in this formum). • Putting Ubuntu Server on to a networked HDD

  Firstly, I know very little about servers and secondly the 1Tb HDD I have has network capabilities, but no software is installed on it, so when connected to the computer it is seen as a network connection, but not as a drive. Any advice on how to get started would be great. Up until now, I have been using it as a USB drive which worked well, but when this is sorted, I would like it to be connected directly to our BT HomeHub accessible through the WiFi for all the family to use as a film and back up repository. I would then be able to set up individual accounts for each family member to use and may be, if possible, make it accessible from outside locations. The First question then is: How can I install Ubuntu server on the 1Tb HDD attached directly to the computers network port but which doesn't show up in Nautilus?   Hi I want to mass create some users and I want to set the users timezone automatically. However I am using timezones generated by this Dictionary<string, TimeZoneInfo> storeZoneName = TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones().ToDictionary(z => z.DisplayName); So I need the names to be exactly like the ones this list returns. So can I put like a constraint on that xml node that the name has to exactly match one of the names. So I am guessing I will need to write this list somewhere in the file and that's what I am not sure if you can do something like that in a schema.

• BURG broken by Windows

  I have successfully installed, using Super Boot Manager, BURG in a computer at my work. After I boot into Windows XP, BURG is no longer operational. The machine just boots to the BIOS screen, goes black, and then boots to the BIOS screen again ad infinitum. The only way to recover I have found so far is to use a Boot-Repair USB, which restores either GRUB2 or MBR, not BURG. Everything works fine under GRUB2, but I prefer the improved look of BURG to make things easier on my students.

• Can't install ubuntu 12.04 64 bit and 32 bit

  I downloaded The Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, i burned it from a cd and when I tried to install it i only and get a black screen and saying Peter Arvin et al could not find kermel image I thought there's a problem with the file so i downloaded it again and install it then i always get the same message. I tried also 32 bit and i always get the same error. I tried also installing it from a usb and i always get the same. So i just downloaded the WUBI and works so fine to my computer. I'm using Sony Vaio E Series with a 32 bit system and 500 GB hard Disk Drive.

• Does saving my progress on a U1-synced file/folder put unneccesary strain on the servers?

  I love Ubuntu One and I use it all the time. I have my documents and music composition folders set to sync. It's been a real boon. However, sometimes I feel that constantly saving my progress forces the file to sync dozens and dozens of times to the servers. It seems wasteful to me so I've been disconnecting U1 until I'm finished working on a project. Is this an unnecessary action that I am taking? I know it's using Amazon's storage but I'm still paranoid that I'm costing Canonical money when I constantly save my progress.

• Keep trying to install always throws error help!

  So I was installing 12.10 on my Asus g74sx laptop... Did everything the tutorial told me to do yet I keep getting an error saying that there was an error of input/output.. That I should check the hard drive and see if it needs replacement. I tried with 2 DVDs and did format twice my usb to fat 32 and mounted the image file for 12.10... No idea what is going on. Please help! Mmm I cannot add an image... I'll comment with the link to the error!

• google maps based desktop application

  I want to build a desktop application which has google maps embedded to it. This app should have a thread to read coordinate data online a usb microphone to use. This application will move the google map markers to their new locations based on the data retrieved from online connections on each refresh. As far as I know gmaps has a javascript API so the first idea in my mind was to embed this mapview into a java applet. So the application will run on a browser. Im not sure if this will work. • Only sdb shows up when installing 12.04 on new Dell inspiron 14z

  I got my brand new Dell Inspiron 14z yesterday, but failed to install Ubuntu. I can boot from a USB stick, and it works well. When trying to install, I confirm that the laptop is connected to the internet etc (as in the 2nd picture in the installation guide: How do I install Ubuntu?). When pressing "Continue" I do not get the question on installation type (alongside/replace/something else). Instead I get a window where I can select partitions: // Picture removed due to low reputation... The problem is that I can only select sdb in the drop drop down box, and I can do do nothing with sdb (like adding partitions etc). The main disk (sda) is partitioned using Gparted the following way: // Picture removed due to low reputation As far as I understand from other threads on askubuntu, this should work... What can I do to install Ubuntu alongside with Windows 7?

  I am interested in how each individual smart phone is allowed to handle data transfers within a third-party app. I am interested in designing apps that allow customers to update, transfer, download, etc. data from their smart phone to their personal computer and vice-versa. (Ranging from just text, to XML, to a Relational Database) I only have experience with the Ipod Touch before and one particular app that maintained all the data on an online server, so to update the data on your pc or iphone you had to go online, are there other ways to do it? Like bluetooth, wireless LAN, USB, etc? I believe Apple has certain policies on this in order to control the App Store and individual Iphones. I suppose each company has a particular policy on how an app is allowed to transfer data to another system, does anyone have a good understanding of this? Thank you.

But how do I calculate the centroid of a weightless polygon (made from aerogel perhaps :), where each vertex has a weight? • Ubuntu 12.10 install freezes at configuring hardware

  I'm installing Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit) from a bootable USB stick. At first I had trouble with a black screen after selecting 'install ubuntu'. I added nomodeset and xforcevesa to the options to fix that problem. Now when installing, it hangs at 'Configuring Hardware', specifically at ubuntu ubiquity: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-17-generic Specs: Asus UX32a DB51 Intel Core i5 3317U 1.7 GHz 4GB DDR3 RAM intel hd 4000 graphics 500 GB harddrive with 25 GB sandisk ssd I'm trying to install Ubuntu by itself right now on the SSD. I made custom partitions (100 mb EFI boot partition, 4GB swap space, 20GB ext4 mounted on '/') I've tried re-downloading the ubuntu iso and creating a new boot image on my flash drive and it results in the same problem. • Ubuntu 12.04 upgrade (from 11.10) removed all packages installed

  I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 using bootable USB. After upgrade, all non-default packages from 11.10 are gone. For ex, I did not have Chromium, Eclipse etc. Although, I could see these in the History in the "Ubuntu Software Center". Is there any way I can retrieve all these packages (even reverting back to 11.10 is also fine with me)? What could be a possible reason for this (We plan to upgrade a few more machines)? • two windows loader in grub

  i'm facing a strange problem about which - googling- i didn't find any solution. This is the issue. I've restored windows 7 trught its hidden partition then i installed kubuntu 12.04 which didn't installed the grub loader. Hence via the same usb-live i used boot-repair which have found all the system that are: kubuntu + its recovery mode windows 7 /dev/sda1 windows 7 /dev/sda2 windows 7 recovery I don't know why i have got 2 windows loader, but they seem (to me) to load the same system. I tryied to see what is there written in the grub.cfg and it seems that the "root" directory for the two system is different eventhought when i load from sda1 i got "Avvio windows" (italian laguange that i choosed) and on sda2 i got "start windows" in the english language when the splash screen load. Can you PLEASE help me removing one of the two entry? i can not really see them, i want only one but i don't know how to act.. Thank you very much indeed. Lorenzo

• How can I limit CD drive speed while on the live CD to avoid drive noise?

  I sometimes disconect my harddisks for the weeks while only using the internet and I use the Ubuntu Live CD. But every time it needs something while in live desktop it accelerates and makes a lot of noise, also the acceleration takes too long. I want lower drive speed than acceleration lags, because acceleration lags stop me completly exactly when I need something. How can I lower the CD drive speed, say to maximum 16x, without restarting? I can't restart because I only use the CD drive, no harddisks, no flash disks, no network disks. Edit: No USB drives. Setcd does not work for the live session.

• Using an external hard drive as a server and be able to connect via wifi [on hold]

  OK, so i have an old external HDD(seagate 1tb) and a windows computer just in case but im trying to set it up as a server for my home at the moment but if everything goes right i want to transfer it to being a database hub for the business i work for that way i can have more then one register at a time on the same basic database. The thing is im new to the whole server part along with im not well versed with ubuntu either so what im getting at is if i can get it setup, can i connect it on ubuntu and run a linux based Point of sales program but have multiple linked to the single server? i may be able to do it via the router, i think its a belkin n600 with usb port but at this moment i dont know what it is since im not home. i just need information if this is possible and if so, a guide would be appreciated.
