  • Tomcat 7 vs. ehCache Standalone Server (Glassfish) Configuration with RESTful Web Services

    My requirements consist of using ehCache to send and store data via RESTful web service calls. The data can be stored in-memory or via the filesystem... Never used ehCache before so I am having some issues deciding on which bundle to use. Have downloaded the following bundles: ehcache-2.6.2 ehcache-standalone-server-1.0.0 (1) What is the difference between the two? It seems the ehcache-2.6.2 contains src and binaries, which essentially enables one to bundle it with their webapps (by putting the compiled jar or binaries inside the webapp's WEB-INF/lib folder). But it doesn't seem that it has support for Restful web services. Whereas, ehcache-standalone-server-1.0.0 (comes with an embedded Glassfish server and has support for REST & SOAP) can be used to run as a standalone server. If I my answers to my own question are correct, then that means, I should just use the standalone server? (2) My requirements are to setup ehCache (with REST support) on Tomcat 7. So, how could I setup ehCache on Tomcat 7 as a separate app with REST & SOAP support? Thank you for taking the time to read this...

    I am sorry if I am repeating this issue. But I am a layman and cant understand the answers posted. I want to do away with Windows XP Professional (I have lost the product key) that I have on an old desktop PC that is more than 7/8 years old. I didnt use the PC for a couple of years as this laptop was more convenient. Now I have started to use this PC but cannot download SP2 onto the PC as it keeps asking for product key and I dont remember where I wrote it down or where I kept it. So I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 onto the desktop screen (about 753MB and 3 hours) and then used Unetbootin to put this on my pendrive. After completing the process, I have on my pendrive 9 folders, 3 text files, 1 autorun file, 1 ldlinux file, 1 wubi application file and 5 other files - total 20 items. Though on bootup I opted for USB boot, the boot-up opens into Windows. It simply bypasses the USB where ubuntu lies. What do I do? Am I doing things correctly. Pls explain in simple terms.

  • Can MFMailComposeViewController attach an XML doc to an HTML message?

    I am creating an email in MFMaiilComposeViewController and if I simply create some html snippets and assign them to the message body - all is well. The resulting email (in GMail and Yahoo) looks like the original HTML I sent. [mailMan_ setMessageBody:body isHTML:YES]; On the other hand, if I also include an XML attachment, my email reader renders everything as plain text … including, the XML inlined. IE: my mail client (GMail, Yahoo) shows the raw HTHML and XML tags - including html tags that I didn't supply - ie: the html, head, body tags the iPhone provides around the content: NSData *opmlData = [[NSData alloc] initWithData:[opml dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; NSString *fileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f.opml", [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]]; [mailMan_ addAttachmentData:opmlData mimeType:@"text/xml" fileName:fileName]; I pop3'd the mails to see what was happening and found that WITHOUT an attachment, the resulting html section of the email contains this block: --0-1682099714-1273329398=:59784 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii <html><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div><h2 style="b while on the other hand, WITH the XML attachment, the iPhone is sending this: --0-881105825-1273328091=:50337 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii <html><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div><h2 style="bac Notice the difference? Indeed, the HTML renders correctly and the attachment looks like a little icon at the bottom of the message. This problem has more to do with what the iPhone is actually sending.

  • XmlDataProvider and XPath bindings don't allow default namespace of XML data?

    I am struggling to work out how to use default namespaces with XmlDataProvider and XPath bindings. There's an ugly answer using local-name <Binding XPath="*[local-name()='Name']" /> but that is not acceptable to the client who wants this XAML to be highly maintainable. The fallback is to force them to use non-default namespaces in the report XML but that is an undesirable solution. The XML report file looks like the following.     Hi, I would like to create a configuration panel for the homepage of the web-app I'm designing with Django. This configuration panel should let me choose some basic options like highlighting some news, setting a showcase banner, and so on. Basically I don't need an app with different rows, but just a panel page with some configuration options. The automatically generated administration area created by Django doesn't seem to handle this feature as far as I can see, so I'm asking you for some directions. Any hint is highly appreciated.   • Delphi's OTA: is there a way to get active configuration while building (D2010)?

    I can ask Delphi to build all configurations at once - by clicking on "Build configurations" and invoking "Make" command: This will build all configurations, one after another. The problem is that we have an IDE expert, which must react on compilation events. We register IOTAIDENotifier80 to hook events. There are BeforeBuild and AfterBuild events - we're interested in those. IOTAProject is passed to each event. The problem is: the active configuration is never changed. I.e. if you have "Debug" configuration selected (maked in bold) - all calls to BeforeBuild/AfterBuild events will return debug configuration profile (even though IDE compiles different profiles one after another). I mean properties of IOTAProject here. I also tried to use IOTAProjectOptionsConfigurations, but its ActiveConfiguration property always return the same "bolded" profile, regardless of current compiled one. The question is: is there a way to get the "real" current profile?

  • Compiling examples for consuming the REST Endpoints for WCF Service using Agatha

    I recently made two contributions to the Agatha Project by Davy Brion over on Google Code, and one of the things I wanted to follow up with was a post showing examples and some, seemingly required tid bits.  The contributions which I made where: To support StructureMap To include REST (JSON and XML) support for the service contract The examples which I have made, I want to format them so they fit in with the current format of examples over on Agatha and hopefully create and submit a third patch which will include these examples to help others who wish to use these additions. Whilst building these examples for both XML and JSON I have learnt a couple of things which I feel are not really well documented, but are extremely good practice and once known make perfect sense.  I have chosen a real basic e-commerce context for my example Requests and Responses, and have also made use of the excellent tool AutoMapper, again on Google Code. Setting the scene I have followed the Pipes and Filters Pattern with the IQueryable interface on my Repository and exposed the following methods to query Products: IQueryable<Product> GetProducts(); IQueryable<Product> ByCategoryName(this IQueryable<Product> products, string categoryName) Product ByProductCode(this IQueryable<Product> products, String productCode) I have an interface for the IProductRepository but for the concrete implementation I have simply created a protected getter which populates a private List<Product> with 100 test products with random data.  Another good reason for following an interface based approach is that it will demonstrate usage of my first contribution which is the StructureMap support.  Finally the two Domain Objects I have made are Product and Category as shown below: public class Product { public String ProductCode { get; set; } public String Name { get; set; } public Decimal Price { get; set; } public Decimal Rrp { get; set; } public Category Category { get; set; } }   public class Category { public String Name { get; set; } }   Requirements for the REST Support One of the things which you will notice with Agatha is that you do not have to decorate your Request and Response objects with the WCF Service Model Attributes like DataContract, DataMember etc… Unfortunately from what I have seen, these are required if you want the same types to work with your REST endpoint.  I have not tried but I assume the same result can be achieved by simply decorating the same classes with the Serializable Attribute.  Without this the operation will fail. Another surprising thing I have found is that it did not work until I used the following Attribute parameters: Name Namespace e.g. [DataContract(Name = "GetProductsRequest", Namespace = "AgathaRestExample.Service.Requests")] public class GetProductsRequest : Request { }   Although I was surprised by this, things kind of explained themselves when I got round to figuring out the exact construct required for both the XML and the REST.  One of the things which you already know and are then reminded of is that each of your Requests and Responses ultimately inherit from an abstract base class respectively. This information needs to be represented in a way native to the format being used.  I have seen this in XML but I have not seen the format which is required for the JSON. JSON Consumer Example I have used JQuery to create the example and I simply want to make two requests to the server which as you will know with Agatha are transmitted inside an array to reduce the service calls.  I have also used a tool called json2 which is again over at Google Code simply to convert my JSON expression into its string format for transmission.  You will notice that I specify the type of Request I am using and the relevant Namespace it belongs to.  Also notice that the second request has a parameter so each of these two object are representing an abstract Request and the parameters of the object describe it. <script type="text/javascript"> var bodyContent = $.ajax({ url: "http://localhost:50348/service.svc/json/processjsonrequests", global: false, contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", type: "POST", processData: true, data: JSON.stringify([ { __type: "GetProductsRequest:AgathaRestExample.Service.Requests" }, { __type: "GetProductsByCategoryRequest:AgathaRestExample.Service.Requests", CategoryName: "Category1" } ]), dataType: "json", success: function(msg) { alert(msg); } }).responseText; </script>   XML Consumer Example For the XML Consumer example I have chosen to use a simple Console Application and make a WebRequest to the service using the XML as a request.  I have made a crude static method which simply reads from an XML File, replaces some value with a parameter and returns the formatted XML.  I say crude but it simply shows how XML Templates for each type of Request could be made and then have a wrapper utility in whatever language you use to combine the requests which are required.  The following XML is the same Request array as shown above but simply in the XML Format. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <ArrayOfRequest xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/Agatha.Common" xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <Request i:type="a:GetProductsRequest" xmlns:a="AgathaRestExample.Service.Requests"/> <Request i:type="a:GetProductsByCategoryRequest" xmlns:a="AgathaRestExample.Service.Requests"> <a:CategoryName>{CategoryName}</a:CategoryName> </Request> </ArrayOfRequest>   It is funny because I remember submitting a question to StackOverflow asking whether there was a REST Client Generation tool similar to what Microsoft used for their RestStarterKit but which could be applied to existing services which have REST endpoints attached.  I could not find any but this is now definitely something which I am going to build, as I think it is extremely useful to have but also it should not be too difficult based on the information I now know about the above.  Finally I thought that the Strategy Pattern would lend itself really well to this type of thing so it can accommodate for different languages.   • Howto WCF Service HTTPS Binding and Endpoint Configuration in IIS with Load Balancer?

    We have a WCF service that is being hosted on a set of 12 machines. There is a load balancer that is a gateway to these machines. Now the site is setup as SSL; as in a user accesses it through using an URL with https. I know this much, the URL that addresses the site is https, but none of the servers has a https binding or is setup to require SSL. This leads me to believe that the load balancer handles the https and the connection from the balancer to the servers are unencrypted (this takes place behind the firewall so no biggie there). The problem we're having is that when a Silverlight client tries to access a WCF service it is getting a "Not Found" error. I've set up a test site along with our developer machines and have made sure that the bindings and endpoints in the web.config work with the client. It seems to be the case in the production environment that we get this error. Is there anything wrong with the following web.config? Should we be setting up how https is handled in a different manner? We're at a loss on this currently since I've tried every programmatic solution with endpoints and bindings. None of the solutions I have found deal with a load balancer in the manner we're dealing.   • Why does tomcat like deleting my context.xml file?

    I'm developing a web-based Java application at work and (obviously) have to run it locally during development. I've figured out the Tomcat docs and have a suitable context.xml file in /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/ but every so often, Tomcat decides to delete it! Which means I have to put it back and restart Tomcat. Why does it do this? I have searched the Tomcat docs about it and am none the wiser. (Oh yes: it's not actually called context.xml but owners.xml as that's the HTTP path prefix for this application.) Update I've now seen Tomcat delete the file whilst Tomcat was running. I think I need to file a bug...
