  I think it is imperative for web application developers to know the answers surrounding the following general questions on web development irrespective of the programming language/framework used. What authentication mechanisms HTTP offer & what are their pros and cons? Why should one go for FORMS authentication? How to secure authentication or for that matter any transactions via HTTP? How to maintain state in HTTP? What are the downsides to maintaining state via cookie & what happens when browsers disable them? Security issues like cross site scripting, session hijacking etc. What other questions a web developer should have answers for similar to the ones above that are programming language/web framework agnostic?

Shouldn't it need to parse HTML source FIRST Before it parses CSS file (I assume which triggers the 'Recalculate Style') and Java Script file (I assume which triggers the 'Function Call')

• Developer oriented hardware benchmarks?

  Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but every hardware benchmark I've found, for nearly any component, is oriented towards gamers and/or workstations (video editing etc). Is there anyone doing benchmarks that are relevant to software developers? For example, take SSDs. I don't care how fast Crysis loads off an SSD -- that is completely worthless information. What I want to know is, which drive yields the quickest build times? What about Intellisense and refactoring operations? What RAID configuration has the biggest benefit? I could probably come up with more examples, but you get the point. Long story short, where are the benchmarks that tell me which hardware will be most effective in helping me be a productive software developer?

  I think by now, I've transitioned from a junior developer to an "intermediate" developer. Previously, whenever someone would ask me a question, I'd gleefully answer them simply because I was happy to be of use to someone and wanted to prove my worth as a developer. Now it's gotten to the point where I can't get work done because I'm constantly answering questions that can be answered just by spending a few seconds looking at documentation or searching google (sometimes from developers more senior than I). On one hand, I genuinely want to help them out and enjoy teaching other people. However, I just don't have enough bandwidth to keep answering these kinds of questions. How do I handle this kind of thing politely?

  I am using ACTION_MY_PACKAGE_REPLACED to receive when my app is updated or resinstalled. My problem is that the event is never triggered (I tried Eclipse and real device). I have a feeling its because of the fact that 4.3 is not using /Developer folder but instead the /Applications/XCode.app/... • Creating own LiveWallpaperPreview?

  Hi, I would like to create my own LiveWallpaperPreview, i.e. to show the user a fullscreen preview of what the selected Live Wallpaper looks like (without the "Set Wallpaper" and "Settings" button that the built-in preview has). Rebuilding the LivePicker-Class from 2.1 (android.git.kernel.org) works fine, so I am able to select a wallpaper to be previewed, but the actual LiveWallpaperPreview-Class tries to import the following private Interfaces/Classes: import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperConnection; import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperService; import android.service.wallpaper.IWallpaperEngine; import android.service.wallpaper.WallpaperSettingsActivity; Is there any way to display a LiveWallpaper in my app without resorting to using the private APIs (which I obviously don't want to do)? • Using a Kanban board per developer

  I have been trying to get our software department to adopt some kind development process methodolgy. We only have 9 developers, and about as many projects. Currently, we can only be described as chaotic. Or perhaps 'crisis driven development' as I've seen another SO user call it. Using Kanban seems like a it could be a good fit for us. So I've discussed it with everyone else, everyone thought it sounded good. But when we discussed how the board(s) should be arranged, everyone wanted to do one board per person. Now, I've never tried Kanban, or any methodology really, but it feels like having each person managed on their own board would negate the benefits a Kanban process is supposed to provide. This notion makes me sad, and want to say 'ho-hum let's scrap this whole idea.' Do you think implementing a Kanban board per developer can be worthwhile?

  Hi, I have build a Java appliction which is using ant.jar (ant 1.8.2) classes for building android application from it's build.xml file with release as target. My Android project has been built by using android create project command, using sdk 2.2. When I run my application for building the Android application I get the following message - build.xml:46: taskdef class com.android.ant.SetupTask cannot be found I have verified the sdk.dir path and the sdk-location path and both are correct.   I want to limit my text view to have maximum of 6 lines, so I did: <TextView android:id="@+id/toptext" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:maxLines="6"/> But when I try to configure it to add '...' when the text is truncated, I add android:ellipsize="end". I do see the ... but then my TextView only has a max line of 2, instead of 6. Can you please how can I make the text view of maximum line of 6 and add '...' when it get truncated? Thank you.

This is of no use to me. How do I get it to export ALL of my data?

• To be a lazy developer or not to be a lazy developer?

  Am I a lazy developer? Is it being lazy to use automated tools, such as code generators and such? Now, I could, if I had to, create all the data layers and entities I needed, but I choose to use CodeSmith to generate my datalayers and entities. I also use Resharper and I would say it fights with MSDeploy as to which gets installed first after Visual Studio. Again if I had to, I could code without it, but prefer not to. Both these tools from my point of view are no brainers as they improve output massively. But is this lazy? I'm sure there are purists out there that would say everything should be wirtten by you so you know what everything is doing, but if you can read through the code and see what is happening is that ok? So am I being lazy or am I just using all the cards in my hand?

• Which Visual Studio 2010 edition for sole developer

  I am the sole .net developer for a small company. My projects span many .net technologies including WinForms, WPF, SQL, XNA, Linq, WCF, WTF?, and others. I struggle staying on top of all these projects so I'm looking to make my life easier with the release of VS2010. Without a mentor I rely heavily on StackOverflow and whatever else Google comes up with. Should I convince my company to get an edition with an MSDN subscription? Is it one of those things where once you have it, you can't imagine life without it? What about the source control that comes with VS2010, do you all find it better than an SVN server? We're looking to hire another programmer this year, would I be best off getting a Team edition of VS2010 to be best prepared for that hire? Thanks!

  Hello, I'm a Delphiholic for quite some time now and lately I was thinking of learning some C# as well, however I'm kinda' "afraid of the unknown", I've done some simple apps as a test drive for C# and I have to admit that I've liked it, HOWEVER I do not really like the IDE... that being said here's the question that I would appreciate if others who went down this path would answer: As a Delphi developer what are the "main basic" changes from the Delphi language(by basic I mean basic -- utility functions, streams, etc.), I'm used to add "System, Classes, Windows" to uses not "use System.XXX.YYY.ZZZ", I'm trying to make a partial equality in my mind from Delphi to C# until I can see where does Delphi go hand-in-hand with C# and so on... I hope the question is pretty clear, if not, do not hesitate to swear me and I'll try to clarify as well as I can :-)

  Here is my ToggleButton: <ToggleButton android:id="@+id/bSmenuTopItems" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="48dp" android:background="@drawable/master_button_selector" android:drawableLeft="@drawable/flame_icon" /> I have no text in this image, I need a ToggleButton due to Active State. EDIT: I think question was misunderstood. There is a drawable inside the Toggle Button (flame_icon) and it is set as background. I want it to be centered. There is no Text, just an image. I need a Toggle Button because I need to have an Active State when selected. There is only drawableLeft, drawableRight, drawableTop, etc. I want a draweableMiddle that doesn't seem to exisit.
