  • using threads in menu options

    I have an app that has a console menu with 2/3 selections. One process involves uploading a file and performing a lengthy search process on its contents, whilst another process involves SQL queries and is an interactive process with the user. I wish to use threads to allow one process to run and the menu to offer the option for the second process to run. However you cannot run the first process twice. I have created threads and corrected some compilation errors but the threading options are not working correctly. Any help appreciated. main...   • VS 2008 - Procedure to ship C#/WPF solution to ensure compatibility

    I am attempting to collaborate on a C#/WPF project with another developer remotely via e-mail; and although the code compiles perfectly when it leaves, my collaborator has not been able to compile the code on his side. We are both using VS 2008 Version 9. This is the first time trying to work with someone else on an application and I was hoping that someone would advise me if there are any suggestions to obtain and ensure compatibility between the two of us? Additionally, is there a recommended procedure to prepare the solution for shipment (ie. just zip up the solution folder? export the application? etc.)? Thanks very much.

  • Strange difference between optimized/non optimized microsoft c++ code

    I have a c++ program with a method that looks something like this: int myMethod(int* arr1, int* arr2, int* index) { arr1--; arr2--; int val = arr1[*index]; int val2 = arr2[val]; doMoreThings(val); } With optimizations enabled (/O2) the first line where the first pointer is decremented is not executed. I assume the compiler believes that the arr1 array is not used since it thinks it can remove the decrement. Am I violating some convention in the above code? What could cause this behavior? It is a very old piece of f2c-translated code, the pointer decrement is due to the 1-based indexing of the original code.

    I created a UserControl with the buttons Save, Close and Cancel. I want to close the form without saving on the Cancel button, prompt a message to save on the Close button and Save without closing on the Save button. Normally, I would have used this.Close() on the Cancel button, but the UserControl doesn't have such an option. So I guess I have to set a property for that. Scrolling down the "Questions that may already have your answer" section, I came across this question: How to close a ChildWindow from an UserControl button loaded inside it? I used the following C# code: private void btnCancel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ProjectInfo infoScreen = (ProjectInfo)this.Parent; infoScreen.Close(); } This does the job for one screen, but I wonder if I have to apply this code for all the screen I have? I think there should be a more efficient way. So my question is: Do I need to apply this code for every form I have, or is there another (more efficient) way?

  • Cannot serialize this List<T> extension

    I'm trying to push a subset of a collection of data through WCF to be consumed by WCF - think paged data. As such, I want this collection to have one page's worth of data as well as a total number of results. I figured this should be trivial by creating a custom object that extends List. However, everything I do results in my TotalNumber property coming across as 0. All of the data gets serialized/deserialized just fine but that single integer won't come across at all.     We're trailing the use of the built in bug tracking, and have written some integration into our helpdesk software that allows for escalation via workitems. One thing I haven't found out how to do, is to merge all changes associated with a work item (say to go from dev branch to main) - I appreciate you can double click on a changeset in the merge dialog to view if it is associated with a workitem, and also that I can select individual changesets, and groups of adjacent changesets; but there doesn't appear to be any way to merge changes by workitem?

    What happen untill now is this... Any line happens once, and if i use a while(1) or while (nFlags == MK_LBUTTON) its working as it should but i get a crash... The other problem, or mabye the same one is the delay if i will be able to do it, mabye using while() with Timer()????? I was thinking about Timer() to recall the function with delay but i can't call OnLButtonDown() becouse as i understand it only a messege can call it with the arguments..... 10x

    I have created a web app version of my previous crawler app and the initial form has controls to allow the client to make selections and start a search 'job'. These searches 'jobs' will be run my different threads created individually and added to a list to keep track of. Now the idea is to have another web form that will display this list of 'jobs' and their current status and will allow the jobs to be cancelled or removed only from the server side. This second form contains a grid to display these jobs. Now I have no idea if I should create the threads in the initial form code or send all user input to my main class which runs the search and if so how do I pass the the thread list to the second form to have it displayed on the grid. Any ideas really appreciated. I have the following settings: In IE, under Tools-Internet Settings-Advanced (tab)-Browsing Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) is checked. Disable script debugging (Other) is checked. In VS, under Debug-Exceptions-Common Language Runtime Exceptions JScript Exceptions (thrown and user-unhandled) are unchecked. In VS, under Tools-Options-Debugging-Just-In-Time Script is unchecked. There are some JavaScript errors that I just don't care about and it is driving me insane having to deal with them.

  • How to enable an AdventureWorks database in a web application?

    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. I want the users to be able to select an Adventureworks table and then an input file. The user is then able to map columns from the file with the selected table. This app works fine now in VS. But when I Browse in IIS, it doesn't show any of the tables. I think this is because currently Adventureworks connection string is integrated security (Windows authentication). If I want users to be able to select a table, do I have to change connection to SQL Server authentication? And if so, is the only way to do this to reinstall SQL Server? Or can I just reinstall Adventureworks? And if I reinstall SQL Server, do I need to reinstall VS also for this to work? This could be painful...

  • Best way to fix an out-of-sync TFS workspace after a back-up/restore

    Wednesday I had to restore from a back-up image I made on Monday. At the time of the snapshot I had about 20 files modified, which I later checked in, and more, on Tuesday. Now that I am back to a snapshot from Monday morning, my workspace has all of these files checked-out or added, etc. even my check-in comments and work-item associations. But I already did that check-in on Tuesday. I'm thinking I will shelve all the pending changes (just in-case), and then just undo all changes, and get latest (specific version). And I should be back to good. Any cautions or suggestions? (TFS 2008, VS2010)
