• How to best integrate HTML/design with C# code in ASP.Net or ASP.Net MVC?

  We're working on a new ASP.Net site. The last major site we did was in classic ASP--the procedure we used there was to have the HTML completed first, then "bring it to life" with the ASP code. In the ASP.Net world, how does this work? I.e. how do the designers do their work if much of the mark-up is actually being generated by the server controls? We are also looking at ASP.Net MVC as a potential lightweight alternative. Would be very interested to know what was worked best for people in both scenarios in terms of working with the designers and integrating their work with the code.

• wp_redirect acting weird. requires die() afterward?

  I am writing a wordpress plugin that redirects the user. for some reason, wp_redirect does not work as think it should, namely: it seems not to redirect the user at all, unless I put a die command in directly after. here is some code: switch($_GET['wp_favorites_tax']) { case 'post_tag': wp_redirect(add_query_arg('tag', $_GET['wp_favorites_term'], get_bloginfo('url'))); die(); break; case 'category': wp_redirect(add_query_arg('cat', $_GET['wp_favorites_term'], get_bloginfo('url'))); die(); break; default: wp_redirect(get_bloginfo('url')); die(); } It seems really strange to me that I should have to tell my script to die so that the redirect can work. I have also tried a basic header("Location: $location); to similar ends, ie: it still requires the die() in order to work. really perplexing me. Thanks.

• Use jQuery Fancybox(lightbox type dialog) with dynamically loaded links

  I'm trying to bind Fancy box links so that when the new links are created it will still work. I've seen a few other question on here but not really answered. This is what I'm trying to do. jQuery("a#[id^='domore_']").fancybox({ 'autoDimensions' : false, 'width' : 'auto', 'height' : 'auto' }); This works fine but when the page or links are reloaded by ajax it doesn't work. I tried using live() but I couldn't get it to work. How do you rebind or implement live on fancybox? Any way to do this? Thanks

But, I want to avoid using scriplets in my JSP. How can I access the java enum inside EL tag and do the comparision?? Please help.

• Joomla, drupal or dotnetnuke?

At work I'm a .net developer and we are starting to use DNN for some small projects around the office. I'd like the new business to be fully open source but it might be nice to use Dnn cause I will already have some experience with it from work. I'm worried that I'll be spreading myself too thin learning php/Lamp at home and .net at work. What does everyone recommend?

• Maven 2.1.0 not passing on system properties to Java virtual machine

  We use the command line to pass on system properties to the Java virtual machine when running our Hudson builds on a Linux box. It used to work quite well in 2.0.9 by since we upgraded to 2.1.0 it has stopped working altogether. The system properties just never make it to the Java virtual machine. I have created a small test project and indeed it does not work at all. I have attached it in case you want to give it a go. This should work just fine with Maven 2.0.9: mvn2.0.9 -Dsystem.test.property=test test But this will fail: mvn2.1 -Dsystem.test.property=test test The Java code simply does this assertTrue( System.getProperty("system.test.property") != null); , Apr 20, 2009; 12:44pm edward eric pedersson

• Drawbacks with reading and writing a big file to or from disk at once instead of small chunks?

  I work mainly on Windows and Windows CE based systems, where CreateFile, ReadFile and WriteFile are the work horses, no matter if I'm in native Win32 land or in managed .Net land. I have so far never had any obvious problem writing or reading big files in one chunk, as opposed to looping until several smaller chunks are processed. I usually delegate the IO work to a background thread that notifies me when it's done. But looking at file IO tutorials or "textbook examples", I often find the "loop with small chunks" used without any explanation of why it's used instead of the more obvious (I dare to say!) "do it all at once". Are there any drawbacks to the way I do that I haven't understood?

• Scrum burn down charts, can they go negative?

  I work on a small Agile development team which is part of a large, non-agile thinking corporation. Currently, we practise Scrum and occasionally, we exceed our sprint commitment. My question is, how do you handle burn down charts when you have exceeded your sprint commitment? I can think of two options: Extend the y-axis in the negative direction and keep counting down Add more cards/stories/work and have the burn down value increase by that amount, burning down when that work is finished. The ultimate solution for my team is one which is clear to the business and adds real value for the developers. So far, neither of these solutions has worked out perfectly.

• ssh-keygen accepting stdin

  I am trying to call ssh-keygen using a variable through bash as an input instead of a file to get a fingerprint of a public key. This method does not work as it says the key file is invalid (it's correct for sure) echo $pubkey | ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin This does work ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin < alpha.pub This does not work because I get an ambiguous redirect ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin < $(echo $pubkey) I would appreciate some insight as to how to get ssh-keygen to read from a variable with a public key and if possible, an explanation as to why the redirects aren't doing what I think they should be doing. I searched online but many of the redirect tutorials didn't seem to answer my questions.

• Rolling back database changes

  Hi, I work in team which uses Work flow management tool. I was presented with a challenge where the user should be able to roll back the changes made anytime during the flow to a certain point in the past. Surely the toll can handle it but the additional database calls that may have made during these activities have to be manually rolled back. the challenge is that there are multiple parallel paths and there different permutations of external database calls. So is there a frame work or a way to keep track of these DB calls and rollback them?. thank you, Justin

I don't want to change the charset because windows software work with that charset . • jQuery rewrite href

  I have an onclick function that I want to add an anchor to the href value. I do not want to change the URL's, because I need the site to still function for people without javascript / for SEO purposes. so here is what I have tried using (amoung other things): jQuery('a[rel=ajax]').click(function () { jQuery(this).attr('href', '/#' + jQuery('a')); }); An orginal link looks like this: http://www.mysite.com/PopularTags/ URL re-write should look like this, so that AJAX will work: http://www.mysite.com/#PopularTags I was able to get some URL's to work by setting a links name value to the same as the href, but it did not work for links with sub-sections: http://www.mysite.com/Artist/BandName/ So not really sure. • Python: re-initialize a function's default value for subsequent calls to the function.

  I have a function that calls itself to increment and decrement a stack. I need to call it a number of times, and I'd like it to work the same way in subsequent calls but, as expected, it doesn't re-use the default value. I've read that this is a newbie trap and I've seen suggested solutions, but I haven't been able to make any solution work. • [PHP] preg_replace: replacing using %

  Hi all, I'm using the function preg_replace but I cannot figure out how to make it work, the function just doesn't seem to work for me. What I'm trying to do is to convert a string into a link if any word contains the % (percentage) character. For instance if I have the string "go to %mysite", I'd like to convert the mysite word into a link. I tried the following... $data = "go to %mysite"; $result = preg_replace('/(^|[\s\.\,\:\;]+)%([A-Za-z0-9]{1,64})/e', '\\1%<a href=#>\\2</a>', $data); ...but it doesn't work. • ImageMagick and Grails not working

  I'm trying to have ImageMagick run from grails to convert some images when I run the command to make an image nothing happens. I get no errors, no information returned nothing at all. I've tried running other commands like touch and ps ux just to see if they work and they all work fine. It just seems like the imagemagick commands are getting lost and I''m not sure what to do. Here is the code I've been working with. String command = CH.config.ImageMagickPath + "/convert -size 40x20 xc:red xc:blue -append -rotate 90 append_rotate.gif" println command command.execute() CH.config.ImageMagickPath is set up to where imagemagick/bin is. I've taken what is shown in println command and run it in a terminal and it works fine. Is there any reason why I can't get IM to work from grails?

  Well, I've heard programmers get to interact with other programmers quiet a lot. But, who gets to meet a lot of new people on a daily basis at work without getting the feeling "Goosh! I'm stuck with him/this for another year :(" - Admins or Coders? And what kind of people domain do each get to interact with? Secondly, I've had this myth for a long time that unlike programmers, Network/System/Security Admins get locked-up in a den and juiced up late nights and early mornings. Most of the time they had to slip out of work without being noticed. But recently one of my seniors from my grad school told he had to work late and on weekends for a product release. How true and often does this happen with programmers and admins?

  Hello, I've created a c# com interop dll project that generates both .dll and .tlb files. When I use them on the computer that I built everythig, all works fine. But when I pass it to another computer (with the same windows installed), it doesn't work. I allready made the: Regasm.exe SoundLogDLL.dll /tlb:SoundLogDLL.tlb command, but still doesn't work. I also done the work in all computers in vs2008 before releasing it! Is there anything else that I have to do?

• Customer session is different in different parts of a Magento website

  I have a function inside of a Helper in Magento that returns whether or not a customer attribute equals one. Here is my Helper class class Nie_Nie_Helper_Data extends Mage_Core_Helper_Abstract { public function isNieAdmin() { if(Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')->getCustomer()->getNieAdmin() == 1) { return true; } else { return false; } } } Now when I call this function from a class that extends Mage_Core_Block_Template, everything seems to work fine. However when I try to use this inside one of my controllers, it does not work. In fact when I do Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')-getCustomer()-debug() the only variable that is returned is the website_id. Does anyone know what I have to do in order to get this to work?   I'm looking at building a MySQL client plugin for a proprietary product, which would violate the GPL as discussed in the FAQ at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#NFUseGPLPlugins However, according to the MySQL FOSS License Exception ("FLE"), discussed at http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/licensing/foss-exception/, you can license an open-source product built with the client with many alternatives. The oursql library (https://launchpad.net/oursql) is BSD-licensed. Is this a valid way around the GPL? By my reading of the FLE, the only clause that refers to downstream uses of derived works is section 2.e: All works that are aggregated with the Program or the Derivative Work on a medium or volume of storage are not derivative works of the Program, Derivative Work or FOSS Application, and must reasonably be considered independent and separate works. This is the case for our product: it is not a derivative work of oursql, and in fact accesses it only via a plugin-driven interface. So is this a valid loophole?

• Oracle - timed sampling from v$session_longops

  I am trying to track performance on some procedures that run too slow (and seem to keep getting slower). I am using v$session_longops to track how much work has been done, and I have a query (sofar/((v$session_longops.LAST_UPDATE_TIME-v$session_longops.start_time)*24*60*60)) that tells me the rate at which work is being done. What I'd like to be able to do is capture the rate at which work is being done and how it changes over time. Right now, I just re-execute the query manually, and then copy/paste to Excel. Not very optimal, especially when the phone rings or something else happens to interrupt my sampling frequency. Is there a way to have script in SQL*Plus run a query evern n seconds, spool the results to a file, and then continue doing this until the job ends? (Oracle 10g)

• stuck on sliders with jquery

  I am building a portfolio page of different work that has been done and im using two different jquery sliding techniques, one nested in amongst the other one. The first slider works great but the second one doesnmt work that great for the first few and then doesnt work at all. • Invisible .htaccess Redirect from /public_html/ to /public_html/folder

  I need to point the root domain of my hosting account to a subdirectory (joomla). I want this to be invisible (i.e. browser address bar doesn't change). Also, I need this to work when a user hits the root or a subfile/subfolder. I've tried the following rules, which work individually, but I can't get them to work together. This one works when no subfile/subfolder is specified: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^$ /joomla/ [L] And this one works when a subfile/subfolder IS specified: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule (.+)$ /joomla/$1 [L] I just can't figure out how to combine them.

  I frequently work with libraries that use char when working with bytes in C++. The alternative is to define a "Byte" as unsigned char but that not the standard they decided to use. I frequently pass bytes from C# into the C++ dlls and cast them to char to work with the library. When casting ints to chars or chars to other simple types what are some of the side effects that can occur. Specifically, when has this broken code that you have worked on and how did you find out it was because of the char signedness? Lucky i haven't run into this in my code, used a char signed casting trick back in an embedded systems class in school. I'm looking to better understand the issue since I feel it is relevant to the work I am doing.

• Deploy CakePHP to a subfolder

  I have created a CakePHP 2 app, and now I'm trying to deploy it to a production web server. My app uses the default folder structure (app/lib/plugins/vendors), default htaccess, default routing, nothing special. I've been developing locally as if the app were in the root folder of the site (e.g. http://mycakeapp.localhost/ takes me to the site). But I'm deploying to a site (shared hosting) where that will not be the case (e.g. http://www.somedomain.com/mycakeapp). It doesn't work (I didn't really expect it to), so I assumed I had to tweak one or more htaccess files. I tried modifying the root .htaccess as suggested in this post, but that only partially worked (the link to the CSS didn't work, for instance): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^mycakeapp$ mycakeapp/app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule ^mycakeapp/(.*)$ mycakeapp/app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> So what should I do to all the htaccess files to make this CakePHP site work in a subfolder?
