• Play Halo on the Xbox360 Arcade

  I'm looking at purchasing a Xbox360 because I've wanted to catch up with the Halo trilogy. Does the cheap Arcade edition console support Halo 2 Halo 3? Halo Wars? Would I be able to save my game progress in single player? Would I be able to play online in typical maps? General questions: Would I be able to play games using the DVD drive or do I have to download everything? Does the tiny HDD hurt even if I don't download any games, trailers or music? Are there any other differences in comparison to the Xbox360 Pro? I have a regular TV that uses the composite cable, so I don't need the HDTV support in the Pro edition.

• GnuPG PHP gnupg Folder & Files Permission

  Situation: we plan on using PHP's GnuPG extension to encrypt/decrypt files. Currently we've setup some test cases, using keys generated with GPG. The generated files reside in: /Users/username/.gnupg/ I am able to get keyinfo for the key I want to use to encrypt/decrypt, but when I attempt to use addencryptkey, I get: (E_WARNING: 2): gnupg::addencryptkey() [gnupg.addencryptkey]: get_key failed I think this is due to the permissions on the ~/.gnupg folder & enclosed files. The files are owned by me - username, but apache runs as www. A few days ago I did have this working, but it seems each time I use GPG Keychain Access to import / export a key, the folder's permissions are changed. Question: What are the exact permissions required to allow PHP's GnuPG to add encrypt & decrypt keys?

• Reality behind wireless security - the weakness of encrypting

  I welcome better key-wording here, both on tags and title, and I'll add more links as soon as possible. For some years I'm trying to conceive a wireless environment that I'd setup anywhere and advise for everyone, including from big enterprises to small home networks of 1 machine. I've always had the feeling using any kind of the so called "wireless security" methods is actually a bad design. I'm talking mostly about encrypting and pass-phrasing (which are actually two different concepts), since I won't even considering hiding SSID and mac filtering. I understand it's a natural way of thinking. With cable networking nobody can access the network unless they have access to the physical cable, so you're "secure" in the physical way. In a way, encrypting is for wireless what walling (building walls) is for the cables. And giving pass-phrases is adding a door with a key. But the cabling without encryption is also insecure. Someone just need to plugin and get your data! And while I can see the use for encrypting data, I don't think it's a security measure in wireless networks. As I said elsewhere, I believe we should encrypt only sensitive data regardless of wires. And passwords should be added to the users, always, not to wifi. For securing files, truly, best solution is backup. Sure all that doesn't happen that often, but I won't consider the most situations where people just don't care. I think there are enough situations where people actually care on using passwords on their OS users, so let's go with that in mind. For being able to break the walls or the door someone will need proper equipment such as a hammer or a master key of some kind. Same is true for breaking the wireless walls in the analogy. But, I'd say true data security is at another place. I keep promoting the Fonera concept as an instance. It opens up a free wifi port, if you choose so, and anyone can connect to the internet through that, without having any access to your LAN. It also uses a QoS which will never let your bandwidth drop from that public usage. That's security, and it's open. And who doesn't want to be able to use internet freely anywhere you can find wifi spots? I have 3G myself, but that's beyond the point here. If I have a wifi at home I want to let people freely use it for internet as to not be an hypocrite and even guests can easily access my files, just for reading access, so I don't need to keep setting up encryption and pass-phrases that are not whole compatible. I'll probably be bashed for promoting the non-usage of WPA 2 with AES or whatever, but I wanted to know from more experienced (super) users out there: what do you think? Is there really a need for encryption to have true wireless security?

• Cisco SR520w FE - WAN Port Stops Working

  I have setup a Cisco SR520W and everything appears to be working. After about 1-2 days, it looks like the WAN port stops forwarding traffic to the Internet gateway IP of the device. If I unplug and then plug in the network cable connecting the WAN port of the SR520W to my Comcast Cable Modem, traffic startings flowing again. Also, if I restart the SR520W, the traffic will flow again. Any ideas? • Cisco 891w multiple VLAN configuration

  I'm having trouble getting my guest network up. I have VLAN 1 that contains all our network resources (servers, desktops, printers, etc). I have the wireless configured to use VLAN1 but authenticate with wpa2 enterprise. The guest network I just wanted to be open or configured with a simple WPA2 personal password on it's own VLAN2. I've looked at tons of documentation and it should be working but I can't even authenticate on the guest network! I've posted this on cisco's support forum a week ago but no one has really responded. I could really use some help. So if anyone could take a look at the configurations I posted and steer me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful. • Problem with shared ssh keys

  Following the process I've used in other environments (http://www.trilug.org/pipermail/trilug/Week-of-Mon-20080602/054712.html), I've tried setting-up shared keys between my Mac and my CentOS 4 webserver. I've seen the same problem with my older Ubuntu 7.10 workstation trying to connect via keys to the same webserver. I have tried both dsa and rsa keytypes (sshkeygen -t <type>). The sshd_config file on my webserver seems to be allowing key-based logins: RSAAuthentication yes PubkeyAuthentication yes AuthorizedKeysFile .ssh/authorized_keys And my .ssh/authorized_keys has my dsa and rsa keys added. Where should I be looking for what to change next to make key-based logins "Just Work™"? Is it related to the line #UseDNS yes and sshd is trying to do a reverse-lookup on my IP, but cannot because it's NAT'd?

  For some time I've been interested in binding the Windows Key (Super_L) on my keyboard to Copy and Paste for no other reason but convenience and consistency between my desktop and my MacBook. I thought that I was close after reading about xmodmap and executing the following: $ # re-map Super_L to Mode_switch, the 3rd col in keymap table `xmodmap -pke` $ xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = Mode_switch" $ # map Mode_switch+c to copy $ xmodmap -e "keycode 54 = c C XF86_Copy C" $ # map Mode_switch+v to paste $ xmodmap -e "keycode 55 = v V XF86_Paste V" Unfortunately, XF86Copy and XF86Paste don't seem to work, at all. They are listed in /usr/include/X11/XF86keysym.h and xev shows that the key sequence is being interpreted by X as XF86Paste and XF86Copy, do these symbols actually work? Do they have to have application level support?

  The full error in Microsoft Visual Studio on a compile looks like this: error CS1548: Cryptographic failure while signing assembly 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Samples\Analysis Services\Programmability\AMO\AMOAdventureWorks\CS\StoredProcedures\obj\Debug\StoredProcedures.dll' This is likely due to a missing strong key pair value file. The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a new one. Navigate to:  Microsoft Visual Studio 2010>Visual Studio Tools>Visual Studio x64 Win64 Command Prompt (2010)  [if you aren't on an x64 box, pick another command prompt option that fits] Once the MS-Dos window displays, type in this statement: sn -k c:\SampleKey.snk Then copy the output *.snk file to project directory, or the *referenced directory. Remove the old reference to the *.snk file from the project. Add the paired key back to the project as an existing item. When you add back the *.snk file to the project, you will see that the *.snk file is no longer missing.   Our work is done!   *referenced directory: Pay attention to the original error message on compile. The *.snk file that is referenced may be in a directory path you aren't expecting--so you will still get the error unless you change the directory path or write the file to the directory the program is expecting to find the *.snk file.

• How do I use an include statement in a TXT record?

  We have a client that is using an email service that requires a TXT domain key reocrd that is over 127 characters long. I'm pretty sure BIND allows this, however we run djbdns with tinydns and it looks as though it only supports txt records up to 127 characters. And the rest is being truncated. I was thinking I can do an include combining them, but I'm not really sure how. I was thinking of setting the value to somthing like... v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQC2GWCNaDTuC3include:bdk2._domainkey.mail.cutlerymania.com My thought is, will this grab the actual value located at that domain which only has one record which is a TXT record and simply append that information so the entire key record gets sent correctly?

• MySQL Replication Error

  I recently updated my master server to 5.1.41 and noticed that the slave was no longer replicating. It was returning this erorr: 091208 12:53:31 [ERROR] Slave I/O: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3306' - retry-time: 10 retries: 86400, Error_code: 2026 091208 12:53:41 [ERROR] Slave I/O: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3306' - retry-time: 10 retries: 86400, Error_code: 1045 The first error is apparently an SSL error, followed by auth denied.. Thing is, I haven't touched my SSL key or user access in months (and the key is fine, since I'm using the same one on that machine to replicate from other master servers.. Any ideas? Edit: Months later, I've tried with 5.1.44 and the problem is persisting. When I roll back to 5.1.39 replication works great... I guess I can't use anything newer than 5.1.39....

• Make Your Mouse Pointers Left-hand Friendly

  It’s a right-centric world, with everything from pencils to computer mice expecting you to be right-handed.  Here’s how you can train your mouse and cursors in Windows 7 and Vista to respect your left-handedness. Using your Left Hand the Right Way It’s easy to switch your mouse to left-handed mode.  Enter “mouse” in your Start menu search, and select the first entry. Check the “Switch primary and secondary buttons” box to make your mouse more left-hand friendly.  Now your primary select button is your right button, and the secondary button (commonly referred to as right-click) is the left button. But, it can still be awkward to select items on screen with your left hand using the default cursors.  MSDN has a free set of cursors designed for left-handed users, that can fix this problem for you.  These cursors are exactly like the default Aero cursors in Windows 7 and Vista, except they are reversed to make them better for left-handed use. The cursors are available in 3 sizes: normal, large, and extra large.  The normal ones are the same size as the default ones in Windows 7; feel free to choose the other sizes if you prefer them.  Click each link to download all 6 cursors for your size (link below). Click “I Agree” after selecting the cursors to accept the license agreement and download them. Once you have all 6 cursors downloaded, select the Pointers tab in the Mouse Properties dialog.  Click the cursor to change, and then click Browse to select the new cursor. Browse to the folder you downloaded your new cursors to, select the correct cursor, and click Open. Do this for each of the 6 cursors to be changed.  Strangely, the Busy cursor (the spinning blue orb) is a static cursor, so you may not wish to change it.  All the other ones look and act like their standard counterparts. Here’s the cursors to be changed, and their equivalents in the default cursors: Normal Select: aero_arrow_left.cur Help Select: aero_helpsel_left.cur Working in Background: aero_working_left.ani Busy: aero_busy_left.cur Handwriting: aero_pen_left.cur Link Select: aero_link_left.cur After changing all the cursors, click Save As… to save this mouse scheme so you can easily select it in the future.  Finally click Ok to close the Mouse Properties dialog and accept the changes. Now your pointers will be easier to use left-handed! Conclusion Whether you’re right-handed or left-handed, you can enjoy the Aero cursors in Windows 7 or Vista in the way that works best for you.  Unfortunately, many mice are still designed for right-handed people, but this trick will help you make the best out of your mouse. • SharePoint 2010 Search Error 0x800703fa

  We have migrated from SharePoint 2007 to 2010. Everything appears to be working correctly except for an intermitent error with search. • DKIM passes everywhere apart from Yahoo!

  Hi, I'm using dkim-milter, Postfix on Ubuntu (I think I used these instructions for setting up). Anyway, using the reflectors such as Port25, BlackOps and Altn.com I get passes for DKIM: X-DKIM: OpenDKIM Filter v2.0.1 medusa.blackops.org o2SGTMSg005616 Authentication-Results: medusa.blackops.org; dkim=pass (1024-bit key) [email protected]; dkim-adsp=pass dkim=pass header.d=example.com (b=miSIxi7TMX; 1:0:good); Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com header.d=example.com; dkim=pass (matches From: [email protected]); Yahoo gives this: Authentication-Results: mta1031.mail.ukl.yahoo.com from=; domainkeys=neutral (no sig); from=example.com; dkim=permerror (key failed) Where, obviously, example.com is my site address. Is anyone aware of anything different with Yahoo! that would stop these from signing? TIA

• Windows 7 installation reboot loop

  Upgrading from Vista home premium to win 7 hoe premium from DVD ex Digital river on gigabyte VM900m; core 2 duo 2.13GHz 2GB ram; Western digital 250GB HD. Got as far as "Expanding Windows files ...100% the error message "Computer encountered unexpected error... To install windows press OK to restart computer and reinstall windows" The computer then reboots, loads Windows 7 (new logo) a essage that says "setup is starting services" then the error message comes back. I can get into BIOS to change boot priority but the computer just ignores this and goes through the same sequence. At the point of "to boot from CD/DVD press any key" my keyboard is deactivated and i cannot make a choice and the sae sequence occurs. I cannot break the sequence - I have push every key, disconnected every external device including HDMI screen, but nothing stops the loop. Any ideas? Auswoolf

• Is it reasonable to have multiple SSH keys?

  So far I've created a separate SSH key for each server I need to login to (for each purpose, to be more accurate). I did it out of a sense of security, just like different passwords to different sites. Does having multiple SSH keys actually improve security? All of them are used from the same machine, are located in the same ~/.ssh, most even have the same passphrase. So... should I give up the whole system and just use one SSH key for everything?

• Curiosity’s Official Self-Portrait

  NASA has released a high-resolution self portrait of Curiosity. The photo, a composite of images snapped by the rover’s agile arm and MAHLI camera, shows Curiosity in front of Mount Sharp. From the NASA release: The mosaic shows the rover at “Rocknest,” the spot in Gale Crater where the mission’s first scoop sampling took place. Four scoop scars can be seen in the regolith in front of the rover. The base of Gale Crater’s 3-mile-high (5-kilometer) sedimentary mountain, Mount Sharp, rises on the right side of the frame. Mountains in the background to the left are the northern wall of Gale Crater. The Martian landscape appears inverted within the round, reflective ChemCam instrument at the top of the rover’s mast. Self-portraits like this one document the state of the rover and allow mission engineers to track changes over time, such as dust accumulation and wheel wear. Due to its location on the end of the robotic arm, only MAHLI (among the rover’s 17 cameras) is able to image some parts of the craft, including the port-side wheels. • Cannot apply unity --reset after modifying files

  So I have an idea of what I did wrong, I am just not sure how to fix it. • Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

  I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?
