  • Custom pyGTK button

    - by Wallter
I would like to create a button that I can control the look of the button using pyGTK. How would I go about doing this? I would like to be able to point to a new image for each 'state' the button is in (i.e. Pressed, mouse over, normal...etc.)

  • Excel VBA Application.OnTime. I think its a bad idea to use this... thoughts either way?

    - by FinancialRadDeveloper
I have a number of users I support that are asking for things to happen automatically ( well more automagically but that's another point!). One want events to happen every 120 secs ( see my other question ) and also another wants 1 thing to happen say at 5pm each business day. This has to be on the Excel sheet so therefore VBA as addins etc will be a no no, as it needs to be self contained. I have a big dislike of using Application.OnTime I think its dangerous and unreliable, what does everyone else think?

  • Structuring Win32 GUI code

    - by kraf
I wish to improve my code and file structure in larger Win32 projects with plenty of windows and controls. Currently, I tend to have one header and one source file for the entire implementation of a window or dialog. This works fine for small projects, but now it has come to the point where these implementations are starting to reach 1000-2000 lines, which is tedious to browse. A typical source file of mine looks like this: static LRESULT CALLBACK on_create(const HWND hwnd, WPARAM wp, LPARAM lp) { setup_menu(hwnd); setup_list(hwnd); setup_context_menu(hwnd); /* clip */ return 0; } static LRESULT CALLBACK on_notify(HWND hwnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wp, LPARAM lp) { const NMHDR* header = (const NMHDR*)lp; /* At this point I feel that the control's event handlers doesn't * necessarily belong in the same source file. Perhaps I could move * each control's creation code and event handlers into a separate * source file? Good practice or cause of confusion? */ switch (header->idFrom) { case IDC_WINDOW_LIST: switch (header->code) { case NM_RCLICK: return on_window_list_right_click(hwnd, wp, lp); /* clip */ } } } static LRESULT CALLBACK wndmain_proc(HWND hwnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wp, LPARAM lp) { switch (msg) { case WM_CREATE: return on_create(hwnd, wp, lp); case WM_CLOSE: return on_close(hwnd, wp, lp); case WM_NOTIFY: return on_notify(hwnd, wp, lp); /* It doesn't matter much how the window proc looks as it just forwards * events to the appropriate handler. */ /* clip */ default: return DefWindowProc(hwnd, msg, wp, lp); } } But now as the window has a lot more controls, and these controls in turn have their own message handlers, and then there's the menu click handlers, and so on... I'm getting lost, and I really need advice on how to structure this mess up in a good and sensible way. I have tried to find good open source examples of structuring Win32 code, but I just get more confused since there are hundreds of files, and within each of these files that seem GUI related, the Win32 GUI code seems so far encapsulated away. And when I finally find a CreateWindowEx statement, the window proc is nowhere to be found. Any advice on how to structure all the code while remaining sane would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I don't wish to use any libraries or frameworks as I find the Win32 API interesting and valuable for learning. Any insight into how you structure your own GUI code could perhaps serve as inspiration.

  • Why can't I inherit static classes?

    - by User
I have several classes that do not really need any state. From the organizational point of view, I would like to put them into hierarchy. But it seems I can't declare inheritance for static classes. Something like that: public static class Base { } public static class Inherited : Base { } will not work. Why have the designers of the language closed that possibility?

  • user is being created with Membership.CreateUser and when I pass the line it is being automatically

    - by Assaf
Hi Guys, I'm trying to create a user using Membership.CreateUser. After I pass the following line: MembershipUser newUser = Membership.CreateUser(_UserName, _Password, _UserName); I check the 'aspnet_Membership' table and I find out that the user is indeed created. At that point I stop the application and I check the table again. Mysteriously the user that has just been created is dissapeared. Does anyone understands what's going on? Thanks a lot, Assaf.

  • Why does ASP.Net rewrite relative paths in runat=server anchor controls?

    - by Atomiton
I have UserControls in a Controls folder in my solution: /Controls/TheControl.ascx If specify the following: <a runat="server" href="./?pg=1">link text</a> ASP.Net seems to want to rewrite the path to point to the absolute location. For example, If the control is on site.com/products/fish/cans.aspx the link href will be rewritten to read <a href="../../Controls/?pg=1 Why does Asp.Net rewrite these control paths, and is there an elegant way to fix it?

  • Dispatch functions

    - by Uruhara747
What exactly are dispatch functions? I've googled them and all is vague. They seem to just be nested blocks/closures inside of other functions? Speaking from a scala/lift point..but i assume it's universal, i've seen them mentioned in ruby as well.

  • How do I create drop lines while dragging a menu item on a WinForm?

    - by Bryan
I want to mimic the functionality of Google Chrome/FireFox for example, when rearranging your bookmarks, when you are dragging the menu item, it creates a black line at the proposed drop point, like this: I've already implemented the Drag/Drop functionality to rearrange the menu, but I would like to add these separator lines as an additional feature. Is there a way to do this within the .NET Framework (3.5) or shall I have to resort to Win32 api calls? Just wanted to ask before I went down that path.

  • Faster integer division when denominator is known?

    - by aaa
hi I am working on GPU device which has very high division integer latency, several hundred cycles. I am looking to optimize divisions. All divisions by denominator which is in a set { 1,3,6,10 }, however numerator is a runtime positive value, roughly 32000 or less. due to memory constraints, lookup table is not option. Can you think of alternatives? I have thought of computing float point inverses, and using those to multiply numerator. Thanks

  • Managing the interval for horizontal axis in flex

    - by Roshan
Hi Guys, How can we manage the horizontalaxis interval in flex chart? What actually happening is , the data is inserted between two interval levels and its causing readability problem when we draw line grids in graph. The data point is shown in between the data grids. How can we move the axis or manage the data points?

  • Message Queue with 'Message Barrier' Feature?

    - by Lajos Nagy
Is there a message queue implementation that allows breaking up work into 'batches' by inserting 'message barriers' into the message stream? Let me clarify. No messages after a message barrier should be delivered to any consumers of the queue, until all messages before the barrier are consumed. Sort of like a synchronization point. I'd also prefer if all consumers received notification when they reached a barrier. Anything like this out there?

  • WPF Storyboard works well, except for the first time it runs. Why?

    - by sofri
    Hi, I'm doing a Surface Application. And there I have something like a bulletin board where little cards with news on it are pinned on. On click they shall fly out of the board and scale bigger. My storyboard works well, except for the first time it runs. It's not a smooth animation then but it scales to its final size immediately and it's the same with the orientation-property. Just the center-property seems to behave correctly. This is an example for one of my Storyboards doing that: Storyboard stb = new Storyboard(); PointAnimation moveCenter = new PointAnimation(); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames changeWidth = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames changeHeight = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames changeOrientation = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); moveCenter.From = News1.ActualCenter; moveCenter.To = new Point(250, 400); moveCenter.Duration = new Duration(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1.0)); moveCenter.FillBehavior = FillBehavior.Stop; stb.Children.Add(moveCenter); Storyboard.SetTarget(moveCenter, News1); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(moveCenter, new PropertyPath(ScatterViewItem.CenterProperty)); changeWidth.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1); changeWidth.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame(266, KeyTime.FromTimeSpan(new System.TimeSpan(0, 0, 1)))); changeWidth.FillBehavior = FillBehavior.Stop; stb.Children.Add(changeWidth); Storyboard.SetTarget(changeWidth, News1); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(changeWidth, new PropertyPath(FrameworkElement.WidthProperty)); changeHeight.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1); changeHeight.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame(400, KeyTime.FromTimeSpan(new System.TimeSpan(0, 0, 1)))); changeHeight.FillBehavior = FillBehavior.Stop; stb.Children.Add(changeHeight); Storyboard.SetTarget(changeHeight, News1); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(changeHeight, new PropertyPath(FrameworkElement.HeightProperty)); changeOrientation.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1); changeOrientation.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame(0, KeyTime.FromTimeSpan(new System.TimeSpan(0, 0, 1)))); changeOrientation.FillBehavior = FillBehavior.Stop; stb.Children.Add(changeOrientation); Storyboard.SetTarget(changeOrientation, News1); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(changeOrientation, new PropertyPath(ScatterViewItem.OrientationProperty)); stb.Begin(this); News1.Center = new Point(250, 400); News1.Orientation = 0; News1.Width = 266; News1.Height = 400; Pin1.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; news1IsOutside = true; Scroll1.IsEnabled = true; What's wrong with it?

  • Is it possible to build a WinForm app (or another type of .NET app) which allows me to interact with

    - by RoboShop
I'm learning Chinese at the moment and I have gotten my hand on a Chinese dictionary definition. Now I would like to make an interface. All I really want the application to do is when I point my mouse pointer over any text on the screen (in any window), it would identify the text I am pointing at and then display a small form over it, which would the chinese transaction. Is that possible to do? Can WinForms apps interact with windows outside of it's own application?

I need to use IBM Informix for my project where I have point coordinates and I need to find which points are present in query rectangular region. Informix has spatial datablade module with ST_POINT and ST_POLYGON data objects. I know how to create, insert and create r-tree index on tables with such objects. But problem is how to do a SELECT statement, something which list all the points in a particular rectangular region.

  • Why is FLT_MIN equal to zero on OS X?

    - by Nick Forge
limits.h specifies limits for non-floating point math types, e.g. INT_MIN and INT_MAX. These values are the most negative and most positive values that you can represent using an int. In float.h, there are definitions for FLT_MIN and FLT_MAX. If you do the following: NSLog(@"%f %f", FLT_MIN, FLT_MAX); You get the following output: FLT_MIN = 0.000000, FLT_MAX = 340282346638528859811704183484516925440.000000 FLT_MAX is equal to a really large number, as you would expect, but why does FLT_MIN equal zero?

  • I've got my 2D/3D conversion working perfectly, how to do perspective

    - by user346992
Although the context of this question is about making a 2d/3d game, the problem i have boils down to some math. Although its a 2.5D world, lets pretend its just 2d for this question. // xa: x-accent, the x coordinate of the projection // mapP: a coordinate on a map which need to be projected // _Dist_ values are constants for the projection, choosing them correctly will result in i.e. an isometric projection xa = mapP.x * xDistX + mapP.y * xDistY; ya = mapP.x * yDistX + mapP.y * yDistY; xDistX and yDistX determine the angle of the x-axis, and xDistY and yDistY determine the angle of the y-axis on the projection (and also the size of the grid, but lets assume this is 1-pixel for simplicity). x-axis-angle = atan(yDistX/xDistX) y-axis-angle = atan(yDistY/yDistY) a "normal" coordinate system like this --------------- x | | | | | y has values like this: xDistX = 1; yDistX = 0; xDistY = 0; YDistY = 1; So every step in x direction will result on the projection to 1 pixel to the right end 0 pixels down. Every step in the y direction of the projection will result in 0 steps to the right and 1 pixel down. When choosing the correct xDistX, yDistX, xDistY, yDistY, you can project any trimetric or dimetric system (which is why i chose this). So far so good, when this is drawn everything turns out okay. If "my system" and mindset are clear, lets move on to perspective. I wanted to add some perspective to this grid so i added some extra's like this: camera = new MapPoint(60, 60); dx = mapP.x - camera.x; // delta x dy = mapP.y - camera.y; // delta y dist = Math.sqrt(dx * dx + dy * dy); // dist is the distance to the camera, Pythagoras etc.. all objects must be in front of the camera fac = 1 - dist / 100; // this formula determines the amount of perspective xa = fac * (mapP.x * xDistX + mapP.y * xDistY) ; ya = fac * (mapP.x * yDistX + mapP.y * yDistY ); Now the real hard part... what if you got a (xa,ya) point on the projection and want to calculate the original point (x,y). For the first case (without perspective) i did find the inverse function, but how can this be done for the formula with the perspective. May math skills are not quite up to the challenge to solve this. ( I vaguely remember from a long time ago mathematica could create inverse function for some special cases... could it solve this problem? Could someone maybe try?)

Any ideas or links anyone can point me to? Thanks!

As you can see I've placed several traces and in the property of the class my trace works fine , however if I look in my Draw function it is already gone. And I get a blank trace. Does anyone know what's happening here. thanks in advance. (forgive me I'm new )
