    I am trying to burn 12.04 on a CD. Should be it working or is it not? After reading a couple of other forums that relates to this question, they say to use a 700MB CD which I am but again is not working. Another question is that the reason for this is because I have a School Desktop which I use and the OS seems to have crashed and that OS files seem to be missing so this looks like an option at the moment. So basically, Can't burn it on a CD (says its too small) and trying to rework a partial dead computer...

  • Ubuntu does not recognize install files (easytether)

    I am running Ubuntu 12.4 64amd. I cant get easy tether to install regardless of which version I use (32 or 64bit.) I keep getting an error when I try to run it in the command line. It tells me it not a valid deb file. If I click it on the desktop the instal manager comes up but the install button is not highlighted for me to click to install it that way. Please help. I'll be using my phone as internet modem

    Is it possible to install Ubuntu on my Ainol Novo7 Venus? I don't want any tablet-version of ubuntu, because I like ubuntu how it is and think there is no need for a tablet-version (I know there is no tablet-version, but many questions after it). So I want to install full desktop-ubuntu 12.10 with unity and everything, but I want a dual-boot with my existing android installation. Is that possible? If so, how? Is 16gb enough for ubuntu or should I buy an extra sd-card for it?

    I have been using ubuntu 12.04 for a few months now. but have now come across a problem that i cant get past. I am stuck at the log on screen= i enter my password but i get a black screen flases up and the log on prompt reappears!!! tried using terminal prompts and i actually have loggin it- but not according to the main log onm screen. I cant get my desktop active as the log on prompt is there. when i put a wrong password in i get an invalid password message- with the correct password the log on screen just reappears!!!please help.

I just want to install ubuntu because it is suppose to get rid of most of the virus problems, so anyway I was following online instructions to install ubuntu alongside windows 7 these are my laptop specifications. I tried booting with a pendrive using netbootin and other similar program but once I boot the laptop in ubuntu I click try without installing button and go to desktop then my mouse stops working.   • What is causing Unity to be slow on startup?

    A few days ago I noticed that after I login in, the top panel and the dash took a bit more time to load and I noticed more disc activity than usual. I thought that it might have been caused by some update or by the installation of pdftk. So I removed pdftk but the "problem" persists. Is there a way to know what is using the disc (read/write operations) on startup? If it were at a later time, I would use iotop but I can only launch iotop after I get control of the desktop. I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 amd64.

    Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 I'm suffering severe rendering issues in unity: Some parts of any application (for instance Firefox, or emacs, etc) are blank, or are not rendered, or are blinking. Some fonts in an application are not correct rendered, maybe only some part (see Eclipse screenshot). There is some shadows in desktop background. It's something that occurs from time to time (it's works great for hours and suddenly start to give this rendering problems). I was trying to find a bug in launchpad but without success. My card (using i915 module): 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0042] (rev 02) I've tried to reset compiz/unity or gnome but does not help.   • Is it possible to use the Raring install image as a package repo (like the old alternate CD)?

    I use Kubuntu and recently upgraded to Raring directly from Precise. Until Precise, I always installed the OS using the alternate CD and not the desktop CD, because I could later on mount the image and use it as an offline package repo. For instance if I remove a package installed by the default installer and later I want to install it again, I can just install it from the ISO without needing to download it again. However, since Quantal the alternate CD no longer exists, so I am not sure how to set up the installed image as a local repo. I mean, doing find . -name "*.deb" inside the ISO tree after loopmounting it only shows a few packages like libc6 gcc and such and not the full set of packages that are actually installed -- I presume they are included in pre-installed form inside casper/filesystem.squashfs. Given this situation, is it or is it not possible to use the Raring install images as offline repos? If yes, how? Thank you!

    After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 my sound was lost. I've tried several suggestions from this site (and other helpers) without success. My dual (UBUNTU/WINDOWS) Desktop sound works fine in windows. My DELL Inspiration laptop sound works fine in UBUNTU 14.04 LTS. Does anybody know which is actually the origin of the problem? Is there any solution diferent to essay-error methodology? Isn't every newer version of UBUNTU enough double checked before releasing it?

  • Synchronizing (updating) published files

    How can I update a published file and maintain the same URL? After saving an update of a published file on my desktop, it will automatically "synchronise" with the corresponding files at UbuntuOne (and it does). Problem is that the "new file", actually the updated file with the same name, is no longer published. Pressing the publish button results is a new URL. I now have to mail new URL's and change embedded links, as old URL will result in a failure to find the updated file (or indeed any file). I am not sure if it is a bug or a design flaw (maybe intentional?), but it seems strange to me.

And the answers I'm seeing is a conflict between 64 bit Sql Server and 32 bit Office.     Working on a screen saver for my wife, http://cchearts.codeplex.com/, and while I've been able to improve FPS on lower end machines (switch from Path to StreamGeometry, use DrawingVisual instead of UserControl, etc) the CPU usage still seems very high. Here's some numbers I ran from a few 5 minute sampling periods: ~60FPS 35% average CPU on Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz, 3GB ram, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB), Vista [My dev laptop] ~40FPS 50% average CPU on Pentium D @ 3.4GHz, 1.5GB ram, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (unknown), 2003 Server [A crappy desktop] I can understand the lower frame rate and higher CPU usage on the crappy desktop but it still seems pretty high and 35% on my dev laptop seems high as well. I'd really like to analyze the application to get more details but I'm having issues there as well so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong (never profiled WPF before). WPF Performance Suite: Process Launch Error Unable to attach to process: CCHearts.exe Do you want to kill it? This error message occurs when I click cancel after attempting launch. If I don't click cancel it sits there idle, I guess waiting to attach. Performance Explorer: Could not launch C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CC.Hearts\bin\Debug (USEVISUAL)\CCHearts.exe. Previous attempt to profile the application finished unsuccessfully. Please restart the application. Output Window from Performance: Profiling started. Profiling process ID 5360 (CCHearts). Process ID 5360 has exited. Data written to C:\Projects2\CC.Hearts\CCHearts100608.vsp. Profiling finished. PRF0025: No data was collected. Profiling complete. So I'm stuck wanting to improve performance but have no concrete way to determine where the bottleneck is. Have been relatively successful throwing darts at this point but I'm beyond that now :) PS: Screensaver is hosted at CodePlex if you want to look at the source and missed the link above. Edit: My RenderOptions darts... // NOTE: Grasping at straws here ;-) RenderOptions.SetBitmapScalingMode(newHeart, BitmapScalingMode.LowQuality); RenderOptions.SetCachingHint(newHeart, CachingHint.Cache); RenderOptions.SetEdgeMode(newHeart, EdgeMode.Aliased); I threw those a little while back and didn't see much difference (not sure if the bitmap scaling even comes into play). Really wish I could get profiling working to know where I should try to optimize. For now I assume there is some overhead in creating a new HeartVisual and the DrawingVisual contained inside. Maybe if I reset and reused the hearts (tossed them in a queue once they completed or something) I'd see an improvement. Shrug Throwing darts while blindfolder is always fun.

    I've been experimenting with Hive for some data mining activities and would like to make it easily available to less command line orientated colleagues. Hive does now ship with a web interface (http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Hive/HiveWebInterface) but it's very basic at this stage. My question is does a visually polished and fully featured interface (either desktop or preferably web based) to Hive exist yet? Are their any open source efforts outside the Hive project working on this?

    Hello, I have a problem with m2eclipse (0.10.0) together with eclipse galileo (Build id: 20090920-1017). I always get the error message:"Eclipse is running in a JRE, but a JDK is required". I have tried several things, but nothing works. The error message is still there. Here are the things I have tried: In WindowPreferencesJavaInstalled JREs I checked JDK1.6.0_20. DOES NOT WORK In WindowPreferencesJavaInstalled JREs I removed all JREs. Only the checked JDK1.6.0_20 is still there. DOES NOT WORK In WindowPreferencesJavaInstalled JREsExecution Environments I choosed JavaSE-1.6 and checked JDK1.6.0_20[perfect match]. DOES NOT WORK. In Preferences of the eclipse desktop start icon I added the -vm parameter (C:\Programme\eclipse_galileo\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vm C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin). DOES NOT WORK. I added the clean parameter (C:\Programme\eclipse_galileo\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vm C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin -clean). DOES NOT WORK. I added the -vm parameter to the eclipse.ini file with a carriage return after -vm and C:/Programme/Java/jdk1.6.0_20/bin/javaw.exe in a new line. DOES NOT WORK. After doing all these things I removed the m2eclipse plugin and installed it once again. DOES NOT WORK. New ideas I have tried: In Preferences of the eclipse desktop start icon I put the executable at the end (C:\Programme\eclipse_galileo\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vm C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin\javaw.exe). DOES NOT WORK. I changed in eclipse.ini the slashes to backslashes. DOES NOT WORK. Here is my eclipse.ini file: -startup plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.201.R35x_v20090715.jar --launcher.library plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.0.200.v20090519 -product org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product --launcher.XXMaxPermSize 256M -showsplash org.eclipse.platform --launcher.XXMaxPermSize 256m -vm C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin\javaw.exe -vmargs -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5 -Xms40m -Xmx512m Is anyone out there who have other ideas?   • Reset VS2010 Project Templates?

    I installed Blend 4 RC recently but strangely it deleted some of my VS2010 projects templates, including the most important ones being Silverlight User Control and Silverlight Application. Does anybody know how to get back these templates or tell VS2010 to reset all templates? A bit frustrating, I'm having to create projects on my laptop then copy them to my desktop manually :(

  • NSData's writeToFile method failing with server address

I am trying to write an NSData object to a directory like so; [myData writeToFile:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%@.txt", path, filename] atomically:YES]; I receive no errors or warnings but I am assuming the write fails because the path variable has the format of afp://10.0.0.20/username/Desktop. I am connected to the networked share. Do I need to modify the string or take a different approach here? TIA, Ricky.

  • Unexplained Django error. Diagnosis anyone?

    I have a django project I keep on github. It worked perfectly fine on my laptop. I downloaded it on my desktop and tried to "python manage.py runserver" or even "python manage.py shell" I get a Error: No module named messages No other messages, no stack trace, nothing..Anyone have any idea whats going on?
