• Installing OpenLDAP: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)

  Hello. I've been trying to set up the OpenLDAP installed by default on Fedora 12, very unsuccessfully. My ultimate goal is to use LDAP authentication for user login and Apache, using the OpenLDAP server running on the same machine. The server is running, but the error I always get when I try to use ldapsearch or ldapadd is: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) I've been following these tutorials, but none of them helped me: http://www.howtoforge.com/openldap_fedora7 http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/ref-guide/s1-ldap-quickstart.html http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_ldap_authentication http://docs.fedoraproject.org/deployment-guide/f12/en-US/html/s1-ldap-pam.html http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/quickstart.html First, some components were already installed, and I installed these with yum: yum install openldap-servers openldap-devel Then, I created a basic slapd.conf file in /etc/openldap: database bdb suffix "dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootdn "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootpw {SSHA}cxdz55ygPu4T3ykg7dgu+L0VRvsFSeom directory /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com I obtained the rootpw with this command: slappasswd -s changeme I also created the /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com directory and made sure the entire contents of /var/lib/ldap were owned by the ldap user. I found two ldap.conf files, one in /etc and one in /etc/openldap. I don't know which is the right one. If I understood correctly, this file is to configure the client. I put this in both: HOST localhost BASE dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com I then ran the server with: service slapd start It said OK. Most of the tutorials above say to use the command ldapsearch -D "cn=Manager,dc=my-domain,dc=com" -W to ensure that everything's working. When I execute this command, a password prompt appears, and after entering the password, I get the error. ldapsearch -D "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" -W Enter LDAP password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) The same thing happens when trying to use ldapadd. I tried with an encrypted and unencrypted password in slapd.conf, it doesn't change anything. Adding a -x for simple authentication doesn't change anything either. netstat -ap confirms the server is listening: tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd ps -ef|grep slapd confirms the process is running: ldap 4148 1 0 15:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/slapd -h ldap:/// -u ldap Running slaptest procudes config file testing succeeded. I read somewhere that the command ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContext can confirm the server is running. It appears to work: # extended LDIF # # LDAPv3 # base <> with scope baseObject # filter: (objectclass=*) # requesting: namingContext # # dn: # search result search: 2 result: 0 Success # numResponses: 2 # numEntries: 1 I'm running out of ideas.   I'm having some problems with storing variables from my touch events. The warning I get when I run this is that coord and icoord are unused, but I used them in the viewDidLoad implementation, is there a reason why this does not work? • How to monitor screen updates?

  I am trying to write a program that monitors when the screen has been redrawn. Meaning if any part of any window is redrawn, then the program is notified. As far as I understand I should use a journal record hook like at http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/vb/code/libraries/Hooks/Journal_Record_Hooks/article.asp However, I do not understand which MSG type would get me the WM_PAINT events (WH_CALLWNDPROC and WH_CALLWNDPROCRET do not seem to do the job). I'm not even sure that WM_PAINT is what I'm looking for... Basically, if I knew when the DC associated with GetDesktopWindow() has changed then my problem would be solved. Question is: How do you monitor screen updates?

  0 vote down star I am using GridView in asp .net and editing data with edit command field property (as we know after updating the edited row, we automatically update the database), and I want to use transactions (with begin to commit statement - including rollback) to commit this update query in database, after clicking in some button (after some events for example), not automatically to insert or update the edited data from grid directly to the DB...so I want to save them somewhere temporary (even many edited rows - not just one row) and then to confirm the transaction - to update the real tables in database... Any suggestions are welcomed...   I'm playing around with building a new web application using DB4O - piles of fun and some really interesting stuff learned. The one thing I'm struggling with is DB4O's current lack of support for stateless applications (i.e. web apps, mostly) and the need for automatically-generated IDs. There are a number of creative and interesting approaches that I've been able to find that hook into DB4O's events, use GUIDs rather than numeric IDs or for whatever reason avoid using any system of ID at all. While each approach has its merits, I'm wondering if the less-elegant approach might equally be the best fit. Consider the following pseudo-code: If ID == 0 or null Set ID = (typeof(myObject)).Count myObject.Save It seems like such a blindingly simple approach, it's usually about here that I start thinking, "I've missed something really obvious". • Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware

  The whole installation goes smoothly up to the point of "Completing installation ...". The monitor changes resolution, after which a standard dialog box pops up saying Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware Then, in a few seconds, the whole machine powers down. Trying to restart produces the message: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x00100448) OR it boots into Setup and comes up with the message: Windows Setup encountered an unexpected error... (This is not the actual error, just paraphrasing) I tried using the OEM restore instead of a regular install, but it fails with the same error. (Even though it worked before...) General specs: HP Pavilion Elite e9262f Intel Core i5-750 Processor ATI Radeon HD 4650 Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 ATA Device 6GB DDR3 RAM SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Some built-in Wi-Fi module http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01916917 I've tried disconnecting the wireless card and disabling the built-in Ethernet and Firewire via the BIOS, and replacing the wireless keyboard and mouse with wired USB ones. Didn't work. I've also tried changing the SATA controller settings in the BIOS to RAID, AHCI, and IDE, reinstalling each time I changed. Still not working. I think the reason why it is showing the Fatal System Error is because it didn't finish installing before it errored out and shut down, so the system is left in an inconsistent state. I've tried 3 different copies (including the OEM restore) of Windows 7 now, and they're all failing at the same point, with the same error message. I've tried to install Windows 7 maybe 10 times already, with the exact same error message at the exact same location. Hm... Interestingly, the 32-bit version of Windows 7 works, but the 64-bit version doesn't. Perhaps it was a badly burned disk? Reburning the 64-bit version still comes up with the same error. However, new requirement has emerged which says that there is a need in providing an alternative interface for a certain group of website users who want to regularly receive pushed notifications(messages) that would inform them about new events(news) in their field of interest. What sort of interface would it be?Is it all about using a MOM(message-oriented middleware) like JMS and deploying it withing an application server on a website using publish/subscribe model?Is it the correct way how to meet these sort of requirements?And if it's not a web-based interface,would kind of interface would it be then for the users? • Ctrl+Click / Command+Click not working with analytics

  Hi All, I created my own analytics for my site to track outbound click events using jquery. Now the thing with preventDefault() is that it does not allow for the Ctrl+Click or COmmand+click operation in the browser to open the link in new tab/window. So my solution was to detect e.metaKey || e.ctrlKey and use window.open. This does not work very great with safari unless the user changes browser behavior. I am wondering if anyone here knows what other analytics users do - like how does google etc deal with this problem in tracking outbound links? • UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked event not getting fired for certain links

  Hi, I am using a UIWebView as an embedded browser within my iphone app. I am using the shouldStartLoadWithRequest function to handle UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked events for links clicked by a user. It is working as expected for a number of sites, but not for all. For example: when I click on any of the links on website http://www.foxnews.mobi, the UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked event is not getting fired. Same thing happens for some other sites. I read somewhere that links with blank target do not fire the event, however this is not the cause of the problem in my case. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Ms Access Save record in subform

  I have a main form with a tab control containing multiple subforms. I need to be sure that the data in a subform is saved when the user switches tabs. The problem is that DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord seems only applies to the current form so it doesn't save the data in the subform. I have tried different events on the subform such as deactivate, OnLostFocus etc but they don't fire until another field somewhere else gets the focus. The ideal solution would seem to be to put something on the OnChange event of the tab control to be sure that all the data is saved. That is my question, how to do I save the record in a subform?

• iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

  Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing.   I've run into an issue with my KVM host which runs VMs on a LVM volume. As of last night the logical volumes are no longer seen as such (I can't create snapshots of them even though I have been for months now).   I have an IKImageBrowserView that I want to be able to pinch-zoom using a multi-touch trackpad on a recent Mac laptop. The Cocoa Event Handling Guide, in the section Handling Gesture Events says: The magnification accessor method returns a floating-point (CGFloat) value representing a factor of magnification ..and goes on to show code that adjusts the size of the view by multiplying height and width by magnification + 1.0. This doesn't seem to be the right approach for zooming IKImageBrowserView, whose zoomValue property is clamped between 0.0 and 1.0. So, does anyone know how to interpret the event in -[NSResponder magnifyWithEvent:] to zoom IKImageBrowserView?

• DataGridView lags for a second with large data updates

  I have a DataGridView with about 400 rows and 10 columns. When the user first displays this table, it receives all of the data from the server and populates the table. The DGV uses a DataTable as it's data source, and when updating the DataTable I use row.BeginEdit/EndEdit and acceptChanges, but when the View itself is updated it lags for a second while all of the DGV is being updated. I am wondering if there is a way to make this smooth, so that for example, if the user is scrolling through the data and it updates, it won't interrupt the scrolling. Or if the user is moving the display around the screen and it updates, it won't interrupt. Is there an easy way to do this? If not, is there away to prevent the DGV from updating the view until all events have ended so it won't be repainted until the user stops scrolling, dragging, etc ?

• How to establish a two-way communication between Activity and Service in different process?

  Hi everyone, I'm working on establishing a two-way communication between an Activity and a Service which runs in a different process. Querying the process from the Activity is no big deal. But I want the process to notify the Activity on events. The idea behind it is this: the service runs independently from the actual app. It queries a webserver periodically. If a new task is found on the webserver the process should notify the activity. I found this thread over at AndDev.org but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've been messing around with BroadcastReceiver. I've implemented an interface which should notify the Activity but the problem is that the listener is always null since the Broadcast from the process is done via Intent, hence the class that extends BroadcastReceiver will be newly instantiated. How can I establish a 2-way communication? This has to be possible. Thanks for any help, steff

• Strategy for unsubscribing event handlers

  In my WPF application I have a View that is given a ViewModel, and when given this View it adds event handlers to the ViewModel's PropertyChanged event. When some action occur in the GUI I remove the View and add another View to the holding container - where this new one is bound to the same ViewModel. After this has happened the old View still keeps handling PropertyChanged events in the ViewModel. I'm assuming this happens because the View hasn't been collected by the Garbage Collector yet, and therefore is alive? Well - I need it to stop. My assumption is that I need to manually detach the event handler from the ViewModel? Is there a best-practice on how to handle this?

  Hello again, I was doing some reading and have even gotten a "master" SPI working on my microcontroller. Here is my question, basically if the master wants to initialize a write to the slave we write to the SSPBUF, how do we control what the slave responds with? The datasheet doesn't seem really clear to me the order of events in that case. I.E. Master puts a char into the SSPBUF, this initiates the SPI module to send data to the slave, during the shift, the slave returns a byte. In the slave side, is there something that tells you you have incoming data, and you can write to your SSPBUF first, THEN accept the data? OR Do you have to write to the SSPBUF the first "return value" you want sent back before the master can have an opportunity to initiate a transfer?

• How does the momentum/inertial scroll work with the Magic Mouse on NSScrollView?

  When you scroll with the newer Apple Magic Mouse (at least on 10.6, I can't confirm any previous Mac OS) you get inertial scroll like scrolling on iPhone (that is, after a flick of the finger to scroll, it doesn't abruptly stop, but instead gradually slows down). This behaviour is "for free" with all NSScrollViews, it would appear. There are exceptional cases, such as Tweetie for Mac (I've heard Tweetie was written with a custom Table View class that works akin to how UITableView works on iPhone). My question is, how do the scroll views know how to do this inertial scrolling? My guess is the mouse [driver] repeatedly sends scroll events with a dampening scroll magnitude (or something like that) over the scroll period. But I'm not really sure how it works. I am having some scrolling problems in my scrollview class and I'm trying to figure out why (obviously we don't have the source code to Tweetie to see why it doesn't get the proper scrolling), but just trying to better understand how it works in order to fix my own problems.

  Hi all, My hardware has a problem, from time to time it's sending a "keydown" followed by a "keyup" of event: keydown: None LButton, OemClear 255 keyup: None LButton, OemClear 255 keydown: None LButton, OemClear 255 keyup: None LButton, OemClear 255 It goes like this forever, in Windows. In general it doesn't affect most of the applications, because this key is not printable. I think it's a special function key, like a media key or something. It doesn't do anything. But, in some applications that LISTEN to keydown and keyup, I get undesire and unexpected behaviour. Is there a way to intercept these 2 events in Windows (for all applications, for Windows itself) and make the OS ignore them? This is really important to me, if you can think of any solution, I'd be forever thankful.

  Hi, We're having a lot of corrupted profiles lately on our profile share. At the moment I have no clue why, but I decided to switch to one mandatory profile since the users can all use the same and there is no need to have seperate profiles for each user. Here's what I did. I logged into the Terminal server with a new user and configured some stuff (imported certificates and a few files). Then I logged out. Later as admin I copied the profile to another server and renamed it to bsilo. I made sure the user hive settings were adjusted. Everyone had access to the hive. I shared the bsilo folder with full access for everyone. I set the NTFS permissions to read, read & execute, list folder contents for domain users. I also renamed NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN. Now I set a env variable %manprofile% on the Terminal server that points to \server\bsilo\ntuser.man I set the env var as terminal services profile path for a test user. When I log in I as the user get the following output The system cannot find the path specified. Can somebody point me in the right direction.
