• Which is the better approach in custom pages ?

  Hi all I want to create a custom new item page for sharepoint but there are two approached that I can use and I want to share your experience in determining which is better. The first: is to create a page in a library then create a C# library project to handle the events of the controls on the page. The second: is to define a feature of the content type of my list and specify the new item form to be my custom form, then create a website containing the custom form and put this site at the layouts folder. for me the first approach is fine but the problem is that a user may access the default sharepoint new item form which I don't want to happen. but I don't like the idea of placing the form in a library on the site. so which is better in your opinion ? thanks

• How do I handle dojo datagrid cell updates so I can post them back automatically to the server?

  I am using dojo datagrid to display my data. When the end user edit the cell values it should be updated in the server using ajax calls(when the focus goes out of the cell). Else, I should have a Edit & update/cancel buttons for each row to handle the same feature. But I don know how to place edit & update buttons inside the grid and capture their events. By default dojo updates only local the store value(client side). how can I save the updated cell values into the server? do we need to write any override methods to do so?? I am new to dojo.   Since C# uses Garbage Collection. When is it necessary to use .Dispose to free the memory? I realize there are a few situations so I'll try to list the ones I can think of. If I close a Form that contains GUI type object, are those objects dereferenced and therefore will be collected? If I create a local object using new should I .Dispose of it before the method exits or just let the GC take care of it? What is good practice in this case? Are there any times in which forcing a GC is understandable? Are events collected by the GC when it's object is collected?

  I have to come up with a way to get data from a SQL server table given it's month There's a smalldatetime type field called "date" in the "events" table and a field from it looks like this: 29/01/2003 17:00:00 It should be one among those that appear in the gridview when I select jan/03 in a given DropDownList control in ASP.NET. What would be the best way to do this? Assuming I only want to go as long as 10 years to the past, wouldn't making a dictionary be a good way? How do I change it so the top month is always the current, and each month another options appeaars in the dropdown ? It should be a common issue, so that shall not be a trick, but I want a good and clean way of doing this, and (since I'm new to asp.net) I myself would come up with something messy after a long time trying.   This is a situation I run into a lot but never seem to find a good solution. I have movieclips that I scale up slightly on rollover, but if you hover over the edge of the movieclip it just sits there and flickers, continuously receiving mouseOver and mouseOut events. How do you deal with this? • Working with DataBinding and Page_Load in ASP.NET MVP

  I'm using WebForms MVP to create some simple reporting applications. Most of these applications consist of a few search criteria inputs and a ComponentArt datagrid that I'm populating with data from the database. Most of the markup is in a UserControl, which is in a content page with a master page. My problem is that the control's Page_Load event is firing before the control events that caused the postback in the first place. Basically, the user clicks the search button, and Page_Load is fired BEFORE Search_Click. This is messing with the databinding scheme I've been using. So that's the question: Why is my Page_Load event firing before the event handler, and what can I do about it? I don't THINK this problem is related to WebForms MVP or ComponentArt, but obviously I could be wrong. Thanks.

• Windows Workflow foundatation scheduling.

  If I have an ASP.NET app hosting a worflow where a trouble ticket passes through a fairly standard flow....at one point there needs to be an escalation occurring if a ticket has not been looked at or resolved in 6 months. Now lets say the 6 months have passed, but the IIS machine has been rebooted last month and not used. Will the workflow escalate the ticket? When/how does the runtime check conditions on long running processes? Does it scan through the 1000's of workflows looking...or have an events table it checks? Does it even handle this kind of out-of-process workflow? Seems like it would be a very common situation for a WF to handle but i can't seem to find any information.

  Hi I'm doing an event manager in Freepascal Each event is an object type TEvent (=object), each kind of event must derive from this class. Events are differentiated by an integer identificator, assigned dynamically. The problem is that i want to retrieve the event id of an instance, and i can't do it well. All instances of a class(object) have a unique id = so it should be static field. All classes have a diferent id = so it should be virtual. Event ids are assignated in run time, and can change = so it can't be a simple method In sum, I can't put all this together. I'm looking for an elegant solution, i don't want to write a hardcoded table, actualizing it in every constructor... etc, i'd prefer something taking advantage of the polymorphism Can anyone help me with another technical or design solution? I remark I don't want to use class instead of object construct.(property doesn't work on objects? :(

• Rebinding jQuery qtip tooltip on images in bxcarousel

• Are file access times not properly maintained in Mac OS X?

  I'm trying to determine how file access times are maintained by default in Mac OS X, as I'm trying to diagnose some odd behaviour I'm seeing in a new MBP Unibody (running Snow Leopard, 10.6.2): The symptoms (drilling down to the specific behaviour that seems to be causing the issue): mutt is unable to switch to mailboxes which have recently received new mail mail is delivered by procmail, which updates the mtime of the mbox folder it is updating, but does not alter the atime (this is how new mail detection works: by comparing atime to mtime) however, both the mtime and atime of the mbox file is getting updated Through testing, it does not appear that atimes can be set separately in the filesystem: : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch test : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch -m -t 200801010000 test2 : [ether@tequila ~]$; touch -a -t 200801010000 test3 : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -l test* -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:42 test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Jan 1 2008 test2 -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test3 : [ether@tequila ~]$; ls -lu test* -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:42 test -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test2 -rw------- 1 ether staff 0 Dec 30 11:43 test3 The test2 file is created with an old mtime, and the atime is set to now (as it is a new file), which is correct. • GTK+ (GTKSharp) poor performance in Windows

  Hi, In my Mono (C#) project that is meant to be cross-platform, I am using the GTK for the UI. However one thing I noticed is, on my netbook in Archlinux, the performance is really speedy, so events such as mouse hover, and redrawing of widgets, etc, are really fast. Compared to windows (7) on dual core CPUs, the performance is really really weak. Which perplexes me. Am I doing something wrong that is warranting this difference in performance between OSes? What are some ways I can do to optimize GTK on Windows? Its really bad to take around 0.5 secs for a hover event to kick in whereas its almost immediate on a weak(er) netbook with Linux. • HTML/JavaScript: mouseover effect for image maps?

  I'm trying to help out a nonprofit by doing their website. They want (ugh) their logo to serve as an HTML image map. In other words, when you click on different parts of the logo, you're directed to different web pages. They also, however, want mouseover effects: when you mouseover a particular portion of the image map, that piece of the graphic should be highlighted. If the logo was simple, I would slice it up into rectangles and attach mouseover and click events to the appropriate rectangles. With the complexity of their logo, this is not possible, however. Has anyone done anything like this without Flash? I'm not a Flash developer but this is looking like a very difficult task in just HTML/JavaScript. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Is there a good way to adjust the size of a UITextView to conform to it's content? Say for instance I have a UITextView that contains one line of text: "Hello world" I then add another line of text: "Goodbye world" Is there a good way in Cocoa Touch to get the rect that will hold all of the lines in the text view so that I can adjust the parent view accordingly? As another example, look at the Notes field for events in the Calendar application--note how the cell (and the UITextView it contains) expands to hold all lines of text in the notes string.

• Does the Microsoft SQL Server native client support IDBAsynchNotify?

  I'm working on some OLE DB code that runs queries on MS SQL Server via ICommand::Execute. I'm converting this code to operate asynchronously by setting the DBPROPVAL_ASYNCH_INITIALIZE property on the command before executing. I'd prefer to register a IDBAsynchNotify sink so that my code can be notified of events, as opposed to polling or blocking via ISSAsynchStatus. The documentation for ICommand::Execute does not show IConnectionPointContainer as an acceptable riid parameter, but the same document, when discussing the DB_S_ASYNCHRONOUS return code, suggests that it is possible to request an IConnectionPointContainer interface that I could use to register my event sink. When I call ICommand::Execute, passing IID_IConnectionPointContainer as the riid parameter, I receive the E_NOINTERFACE error. I also tried setting the DBPROP_IConnectionPointContainer property before Execute but I received the same results. If I have to, I'll use ISSAsynchStatus, but I'd much rather use IDBAsynchNotify. Is it possible?

• How Do I Detect A WordPress Admin Panel in my Plugin?

  I've got two events in my plugin. One is run for the front-end. The other is run for the admin panel. Both call the same function in one particular situation, and this echoes stuff to the screen. How do I make it such that the function is smart, calls something in WordPress, and detects whether it's being loaded in the front-end versus the admin panel? I don't want it to echo stuff to the screen on the front-end, but do want it to do so on the admin panel. Right now, it's echoing on both, which is not what I want. Background For the front end (the side of the site that the visitor sees), I'm intercepting the 'wp' event and checking for: ( is_single() || is_page() || is_home() || is_archive() || is_category() || is_tag()) For the admin panel, I'm intercepting the 'admin_menu' event. I tried intercepting the is_*() stuff above, but it seems to somehow answer TRUE or something, not giving me a difference between front-end and admin panel.

When I try to add the event that I have (which is passed into this view controller, having been retrieved from core data previously) with this code [myEvents addEventObject:event]; It falls over with *** -[NSComparisonPredicate evaluateWithObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance MyEvents and Event are just the default generated code. MyEvents contains only the relationship to event. Thanks.

• Cleanup for control inside a FlowDocument

  I have a custom control that I use inside a FlowDocument. The control uses a System.Drawing.ImageAnimator to display transparent, animated GIF images. Why is this such a pain in the butt in WPF anyway? :P In my original implementation, this was causing memory leaks when a paragraph containing the control was being deleted from the document, because the ImageAnimator kept a reference to the control for event handling. I've now implemented a WeakEventManager pattern which seems to indeed fix the leak itself, but I would like to stop "OnFrameChanged" events from being fired if a particular animated GIF is not currently in the document, instead of relying on the garbage collector to eventually collect the control objects and my event manager to notice that there no longer are valid listeners to the event. Basically, I would like to take a more active role in this and have the control react to being removed from the FlowDocument. Is there some way to do this? I've been unable to find it. OnVisualParentChanged doesn't get fired, because the direct parent (a Paragraph) is unchanged.
