• On a Hudson master node, what are the .tmp files created in the workspace-files folder?

  Question: In the path HUDSON_HOME/jobs/<jobname>/builds/<timestamp>/workspace-files, there are a series of .tmp files. What are these files, and what feature of Hudson do they support? Background Using Hudson version 1.341, we have a continuous build task that runs on a slave instance. After the build is otherwise complete, including archiving the artifacts, task scanner, etc., the job appears to hang for a long period of time. In monitoring the master node, I noted that many .tmp files were being created and modified under builds//workspace=files, and that some of them were very large. This appears to be causing the delay, as the job completed at the same time that files in this path stopped changing. Some key configuration points of the job: It is tied to a specific slave node It builds in a 'custom workspace' It triggers a downstream job that builds in the same custom workspace on the same slave node

• What should I know before starting my first consulting project?

  I just got a job for a small project. I have all the relevant skills and knowledge to complete the project, but I am concerned about getting screwed over because this is my first time working on a consultant basis. We have already agreed on an hourly wage that I'm happy with, so that's not an issue. I'm just worried that since this is my first time working on my own, I'm going to make some mistakes that could be easily avoided if I had someone give me advice beforehand. This is what I already know to do/not do: -Get everything in writing -Limit the scope of the project. Once I start the actually coding, all features should be frozen. -Make sure to communicate constantly with my client. In addition he wants an max hourly cap. What is a good way to come up with one? What else do I need to know?

• BASH Script to cd to directory with spaces in pathname

  Argggg. I've been struggling with this stupid problem for days and I can't find an answer. I'm using BASH on Mac OS X and I'd like to create a simple executable script file that would change to another directory when it's run. However, the path to that directory has spaces in it. How the heck do you do this? This is what I have... Name of file: cdcode File contents: cd ~/My Code Now granted, this isn't a long pathname, but my actual pathname is five directories deep and four of those directories have spaces in the path. BTW, I've tried cd "~/My Code" and cd "~/My\ Code" and neither of these worked. If you can help, THANKS! This is driving me crazy!!

• Sorting NSTableColumn contents

  Hey, I have a problem with sorting NSTableColumn contents. In my NSTableView there are three columns: File, Size, Path. The contents are stored in NSMutableArray. Each object in this array is a NSDictionary containing three keys: file, size and path - value for each is a NSString. In Interface Builder, in each Table Column's attributes I can choose sorting options: Selector: IB entered "compare:" which I think is ok, because I compare NSStrings. Sort Key - and that's the problem I think - I don't know what to enter here. Any clues? If you've got questions about my code, please ask.

• How to set -Xbootclasspath for a JRE with a custom launcher?

  I have a Java application which is using a certain Java Runtime Environment. The application uses it's own launcher to startup the java virtual machine. No use of the java.exe, javaw.exe, javaws.exe binaries is being made -- as the application seems to have it's own launcher which is a different executable. This custom launcher is using the rest of the JRE files, such as bin/client/jvm.dll and rt.jar package etc. Now, the problem is that I want to set a boot class path for this custom launcher. The custom launcher does not support the -Xbootclasspath command line parameter, like the default java.exe does. Is there any way for me to set the boot class path now for this java runtime environment? Thanks in advance. • YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest does not work in Safari

  When I request a webpage using YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest in Safari I always get Communication Failure message in callback's failure properties statusText. The same method works in IE. What could be wrong here? Here is the code. When the code is executed I always get two alerts: "Three" and "communications failure undefined" (corresponding to the second alert in the failure part below.) Also when I attach the debugger and put break point in the SAProvision.aspx's page load event, the break point is not hit. So it is sure that in safari the page is not being called. I have read many links on the net that talk about this issue, and although I made the changes, nothing went wrong. I was thinking if the case is not an issue of permissions to folders. • Django template context not working with imported class

  I'm using Django's templating on appengine, and am having a problem whereby a class I'm importing from another package is not correctly being made available to the template context. Broadly speaking, this is the code. The prop1 is not available in the template in the first example below, but is in the second. MyClass is identical in both cases. This does not work: from module import MyClass context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) This does: class MyClass(object): def __init__(self): self.prop1 = "prop1" context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) If I log the context in the above code I get: <module.MyClass object at 0x107b1e450> when it's imported, and: <__main__.MyClass object at 0x103759390> when it's defined in the same file. Any clues as to what might cause this kind of behaviour?

• WPF textblock binding question.

  I'm trying to get my head around the whole MVVM thing and binding. I have a ViewModel class which has a property that is another class. I want to bind to a (string) property of that class to the text of a textblock. I set the ViewModel as my data context for my window\page. And then do this: <TextBlock Text="{Binding ElementName=myAddressClass, Path=StreetName}" /> But this does not work. The text is empty. I can expose the StreetName directly as below and this works: <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=StreetName}" /> So am I doing something wrong in the first example. It seems simple enough ... am I just confuse about what an elementname is or should be set to? thanks

• File.Exists() returns false, but not in debug

  I'm being completely confused here folks, My code throws an exception because File.Exists() returns false public override sealed TCargo ReadFile(string fileName) { if (!File.Exists(fileName)) { throw new ArgumentException("Provided file name does not exist", "fileName"); } Visual studio breaks at the throw statement, and I immediately check the value of File.Exists(fileName) in the immediate window. It returns true. When I drag the breakpoint back up to the if statement and execute it again, it throws again. fileName is an absolute path to a file. I'm not creating the file, nor writing to it (it's there all along). If I paste the path into the open dialog in Notepad, it reads the file without problems. The code is executing in a background worker. It's the only complicating factor I can think of. I am positive the file has not been opened already, either in the worker thread or elsewhere. What's going on here?

  So basically what im trying to do is queue up tasks in a thread pool to be executed as soon as a worker becomes free, i have found various examples of this but in all cases the examples have been setup to use a new Worker instance for each job, i want persistent workers. Im trying to make a ftp backup tool, i have it working but because of the limitations of a single connection it is slow. What i ideally want to do is have a single connection for scanning directories and building up a file list then four workers to download said files.   Hi, I am trying to get my head around the way shared libraries work in the c++ unix environment. I understand we only need header files and no shared libraries specification when compiling code. But if I want to create an executable or shared library from my compiled files, do I need to specify shared library dependencies (those are dynamic)? And do the paths of shared libraries need to match the path at runtime loading? I am using Linux 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux I am having a problem where my code is not able to pick up a library at runtime. I have tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH. I have Junit tests and everything is working fine. I have made a different project in the same workspace - which happens to be an Android project - that needs to use my LicenseGenerator classes. I added LicenseGenerator to the "projects" tab in the build path - the classes were recognized and I was able to use them. Everything compiled and ran. However, when the part of the LicenseGenerator that used the commons-codec was called from my Android project I got the following error. Could not find method org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64.encodeBase64URLSafeString, referenced from method This basically tells me that the commons-codec was not packaged which the Android project, so I added the commons-codec to the android project as well but the same error appears. how do I fix this?

  Hi, I'm working through the Stanford iPhone podcasts and have some basic questions. The first: why is there no easy string concatenation? (or am I just missing it?) I needed help with the NSLog below, and have no idea what it's currently doing (the %@ part). Do you just substitute those in wherever you need concatenation, and then comma separate the values at the end? NSString *path = @"~"; NSString *absolutePath = [path stringByExpandingTildeInPath]; NSLog(@"My home folder is at '%@'", absolutePath); whereas with any other programing language I'd have done it like this: NSLog(@"My home folder is at " + absolutePath); Thanks!   hello, i've got two comboboxes with the same content. the user should not be allowed to choose the same item twice. therefore the comboboxes' contents (= selectedindex?) should never be equal. my first attempt was to comapare the selectedindex with a datatrigger to show/hide a button: <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding ElementName=comboBox1, Path=SelectedIndex}" Value="{Binding ElementName=comboBox2, Path=SelectedIndex}"> <Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Hidden" /> </DataTrigger> it seems that it is not possible to use Value={Binding}. is there any other way (if possible without using a converter)? thanks in advance!

  Looking for a reasonably priced alternative to YouSendIt's exorbitant pricing for an embedded, unbranded (i.e. no "Uploads by SomeCompany" or at the very least, discrete, subtle co-branding) file upload solution for my client's print shop Website. To do what we want to do with YouSendIt, we're looking at a corporate account of $995 USD plus $29.99 USD monthly fee, that is only sold pro-rated, so you have to buy the entire year's worth. To me, this is just unacceptable considering the commodity pricing of storage and bandwidth nowadays. For data, we're looking at roughly 10MB per upload, with perhaps 250-1000 uploads per month, with transient data storage of no more than 30 days (and more than likely 1-2 business days) for a total of 10 GB transfer (upload) and 10 GB transfer (download, to the print shop) at the very max each month. Any ideas? Everything I've found through searching seems to be geared more towards personal file sharing and not for embedding into Websites. Thanks

This gives me an object of type type File, which has the following method: File.name: The name of the file including the relative path from MEDIA_ROOT.
