  On windows I have a few AutoHotkey scripts that let me hit various key combinations to resize windows to particular pre-defined sizes, or move them to certain areas of the screen (or both). I'm wondering how I would accomplish this in Ubuntu (gnome). Most of the searches I did for a linux version of autohotkey seemed to be centered around just setting up simple keyboard shortcuts (key combo X launches app Y, etc). I didn't see anything about scripting window size and placement beyond maximize/minimize.

• Always route a keypress to an application regardless of focus

  I have to transcribe some audio (not enough to download dedicated software but enough to put my hacker hat on) and flipping back and forth between vlc and my text editor every time I want to pause is really annoying. Is there a way to always route a key-press (for example F10) to vlc regardless of what window has focus. Bonus - I have a Makey Makey so if I can get this working I can create a pedal and it will be my first real use of it!

The perfect solution for me would be an application that lets me start typing a window's and offer a classic auto-complete drop down list to chose from. • No Firefox UI if launched during boot-up

  At work I'm using Windows XP SP2. What I've noticed is if I launch Firefox while Windows hasn't finished booting up, it launches the firefox.exe process but fails to launch the associated UI i.e. there's no Firefox window at the end of it. The only way to resolve this is to kill the firefox.exe process and re-launch Firefox. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior? Update: I'm using Firefox 3.6

• Is there a way to save and restore a set of tabs in a linux file manager?

  For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?

  Hi all, I have a question concerning hard disk permission after Using boot camp, i have a macbook pro 17 i7, 500gb, yesterday i installed window 7 ultimate in 80 gb (bootcamp) ntfs offcourse. I was testing my HD permission since i found that the start up is slow in mac side. I found there's alot of changes in permissions is that normal or i should to repair all this permission problems, need to mention that from Windows side i can see my mac drive which i don't want...   hi all, i've been reinstalling my oracle and somehow when im trying to start them, it says that apphelp.dll is missing. when i lookup in c:/window/systems32 the apphelp.dll was there. i also download new from internet and try to replace them in case it crash but it said that i cannot delete the file coz it's still running. my question is, if i was doing the right thing by replacing the apphelp.dll can solve my problem, how can i stop this apphelp.dll? thanks

• Why doesn't Windows XP show "Total Size" and "Free Space" for USB flash disks?

  When I double click on My Computer, I can immediately see the Total size and Free space for internal and external HDDs, and inserted CD/DVD media, but in the same columns I cannot see these values for any USB flash drives. They are just empty. To see, I have to right click on USB drive letter, and select Properties. Is there a trick to make Windows XP display USB drive's Total size and Free space in My Computer window?

  Since the release of the latest version of firefox, I've been having an issue where Vimperator will show scrollbars on its tab-bar. I can't find any relevant options in Vimperator's docs or via googling. The only option that looked remotely relevant was the "scrollbars" setting, but that just determines whether I get scrollbars on Firefox's content window... Is there any particular setting I have to use to hide scrollbars from the tab-bar? (I'm using Waterfox on Win8)

  When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches.   I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server. Here is what I'm doing from the finder : menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer I get an error (error code -36). But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory. I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.

  I am unable to connect my Nokia 2690 to my PC via data cable using Nokia PC Suite under Windows XP SP3 Pro 32 bit. Every time I connect my mobile using the data cable, the Nokia App shows a window where it says it's "Installing the required drivers. Please wait". But even after several hours my phone never conects to my PC and the screen remains there idle. I checked in he task manager, Nokia PC Suite didn't go unresponsive.

  Windows XP professional SP3 Firefox 13.0.1 NoScript Addon 2.4.6 I can't click Javascript links, like for opening a popup window (which I usually don't care about, but this time it was Important :-( ). I mention NoScript as I used to have a button where I could temporarily enable Javascript so the link would work, but with one of the latest updates this seems to be gone. The worst situation I have seen was an office in a war zone which had a window blown out which exposed the internal space to the elements outside. There were about 20 computers and only one of them would power on. The layer of dust looked to be at least 1/32 of an inch. WOW! I mean KerPow!
