• How can I use Object Oriented Javascript to interact with HTML Objects

  I am very new to object orientated javascript, with experience writing gui's in python and java. I am trying to create html tables that I can place in locations throughout a webpage. Each html table would have two css layouts that control if it is selected or not. I can write all of the interaction if I only have one table. It gets confusing when I have multiple tables. I am wondering how to place these tables throughout a blank webpage and then access the tables individually. I think I am having trouble understanding how inheritance and hierarchy works in javascript/html. NOTE: I am not asking how to make a table. I am trying to dynamically create multiple tables and place them throughout a webpage. Then access their css independently and change it (move them to different locations or change the way the look, independently of the other tables).

• Circular NSSlider with stop (non-continuous)

  I am not sure how to phrase this better as a title but I need to make an NSSlider that functions as a normal volume knob. At the moment it will spin around as many times as I hold the mouse down and move it around the control. I need it to stop at the "0" position and the "100" position, I cannot have it jumping from 0 to 100 when I drag it the other way. I hope I am making this clear. Does anyone know how to do this or have any suggestions?

• Seeking FOSS user admin code

  It must be a fairly standard wheel, so I'd rather not reinvent it. Create/modify/delete users. Ditto their passwords & maybe enforce password change every X days. Also, create groups, like "sales", "support", etc and add/remove users. The only unique part should be what they have permission to do (visit certain parts of the site after login, etc) And I'd like to store admin data in an ODBC compliant database (MySql to start with, but I may move on). Is this a new wheel? There doesn't seem to be much of anything on SourceForge, but if I could find something established and trusted I wouldn't even mind paying a few $100 as a trade of for the time needed to develop & test it.

• Moving webshop storage to NoSQL solution

  If you had a webshop solution based on SQL Server relational DB what would be the reasons, if any, to move to NoSQL storage ? Does it even make sense to migrate datastores that rely on relations heavily to NoSQL? If starting from scratch, would you choose NoSQL solution over relational one for a webshop project, which will, after a while, again end up with a bunch of tables like Articles, Classifications, TaxRates, Pricelists etc. and a magnitude of relations between them? What's the support like in .NET (4.0) for MongoDB or MongoDB's support for .NET 4.0? Can I count on rich code generation tools similar to EF wizard, L2SQL wizard etc. for MongoDB? Because as what I have read so far, NoSQL's are mostly suited for document storage, simpler object models. Your answer to this question will help me make the right infrastructure design decisions.

• How long can a hash left out in the open be considered safe?

  If I were to leave a SHA2 family hash out on my website - how long would it be considered safe? How long would I have before I could be sure that someone would find a collision for it and know what was hashed? I know that the amount of time would be based on the computational power of the one seeking to break it. It would also depend on the string length, but I'm curious just how secure hashes are. Since many of us run web-servers we constantly have to be prepared for the day when someone might make it all the way to the database which stores the user hashes. So, move the server security out of the way and then what do you have? This is a slightly theoretical area for many of the people I have talked with, so I would love to actually have some more information about average expectations for cracking.

• How can you deflect a direction/magnitude vector based on a direction/magnitude vector and a collided triangle?

  So, I have a Triangle-AABB collision algorithm and I have it returning the triangle that the AABB collided with. I was hoping with the 3 vectors of the triangle and the direction/magnitude of the movement would let me determine a deflected vector so that when you run against the wall at an angle you move slower, depending on the angle of collision, but along side the wall. This would remove the sticky collision problem with only moving when there is not a collision. Any suggestions or references would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

• How do I "merge" two separate git repositories of the same website without losing commit data?

  I have two separate git repositories for the same version of a single website. domain.com-1.0 domain.com-2.0 Version 2.0 was completely redone from the ground up. There is no bridge between the two repositories. I would now like to merge the two into a single repository, but maintain the separation. I have already tagged domain.com-1.0 in it's repo and now want to clean the working tree and move domain-2.0 and all it's commit history into 1.0's repo. Is this possible or is there a better way of accomplishing this? Note: domain.com-1.0 will not be developed on anymore and is "being retired".

• Jquery Help : Draggable to Sortable and then back to draggable again.

  I have a pool of items in the drag list which is connected to a sortable using connectToSortable option. Now I want to remove some items from this sort list and move them back to the drag list. Sort of like an undo. Suppose the user moves some 5 items to sort list and decides he/she wants only 4 items, and decides to just drag the unwanted item from the sortlist TO the drag list. How do I accomplish this WITHOUT adding a "remove" link in the sort list. Thanks a lot. • What technology should I use for a complex report?

  I have a task to generate reports from a Visual Studio C# application. This is a replacement (caused by new requirements) for a program written using the built-in implementation of Crystal Reports. Although workable, it was far from ideal. The reports have conditional content (If type=1, print this, if type=2 print that.) Crystal does not adjust spacing dynamically and the various pieces were not the same length making for some unprofessional-looking spacing. I had thought of generating the reports in HTML, which would be feasible, but I'm concerned that you lose a degree of control, and I may be asked, e.g. to "move this up a bit" or similar which may be tricky. I'm not either a Crystal guru or an HTML guru. What other reporting technologies are available that would make it easy to drop in parts of different sizes, do table layouts, etc.?

• Webservice for serial port devices

  Hi I want to create a remote webservice for an application that is now avaliable only localy. This application controlls three devices (each is controlled separately) connected on serial port. The problem is that I don't know how to take care of passing back information that a device return requested data. For example - I send move command to the motion device (which is very slow and can take a minute or more). Can I just set a big timeout on the client side (and server side) and return for example a true/false if operation is completed or is this a bad idea? Is SOAP with big timeouts ok? And the other question is if Mono on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10, Mono 2.4) is stable enought for making a web service or should I chose Java or some other language? I'm open for recommendations.   i want to port my application to CodeIgniter but i am wondering whether i should use their v2.0 or v1.72 (then when they release 2.0, upgrade it). i have never used a framework before so i don't exactly know what implies when upgrading a framework: what does it mean practically - i just move the folders and it will work? or do i have to change a lot of settings, file structure etc? could someone enlighten me about the upgrade process. and what would you use: v.1.72 or v2.0? if i'm using the latest version, is there a good documentation for it somewhere so you can read about how to use the new features: packages, drivers and so on. thanks

• Use a SELECT to Print a Bunch of INSERT INTOs

  I have a bunch of records I want to move to another database and I just want to create a bunch of inserts that I can copy and paste. I've seen someone do this before but I can't figure it out. I'm not getting the escapes right. It's something like this where 'Code', 'Description' and 'Absent' are the columns I want from the table. SELECT 'INSERT INTO AttendanceCodes (Code, Description, Absent) VALUES (' + Code + ',' + Description + ',' + Absent')' FROM AttendanceCodes The end result should be a slew of INSERTS with the correct values like this: INSERT INTO AttendanceCodes (Code, Description, Absent) VALUES ('A','Unverified Absence','UA')

• Excel - Programming Cells

  I just started programming in Excel and I have a problem figuring some code out. I have created a work schedule in Excel with lists in order to add new people. I wanted to create a macro in which the user inputs a value in a cell (I chose B3) and depending on that 'start time' in cell B3, the headers for the lists all change to correspond with that starting time. For example: B3 says 5:00 am. All the headers will follow with: 5:00 am, 6:00 am, 7:00 am, etc. of course the headers will move at some point so I'm wondering how do you point to a cell that moves too?

• jquery mouseleave issue when moving too slow

  Hello. I am using the jQuery mouseenter and mouseleave events to slide a div down and up. Everything works well except for the mouseleave which doesn't appear to fire ONLY if the mouse of moved off of the div quite slowly. If i move the mouse at a relatively normal or fast speed then it works as expected. Can anyone explain this or provide any info on how to get around this? • What are the repercussions of not checking existing data when adding a foreign key?

  I've inherited a database that doesn't exactly strive for data integrity. I am trying to add some foreign keys to change that, but there is data in some tables that doesn't fit the constraints. Most likely, the data won't be used again so I want to know what problems I might face by leaving it there. The other option I see is to move it into some kind of table without referential constraints, just for historical purposes. So, what are the repercussions of not checking existing data? If I create a foreign key constraint on a table and don't check existing data, will all new data inserted into the table be enforced?

  I'm looking for a convenient way to fix comments where line lengths exceed a certain number of characters in Vim. I'm fine with doing this manually with code, especially since it's not that frequent, plus refactoring long lines is often language, or even code-style dependent, but with comments this is pure drudgery. What happens is I often spot some issue in a comment, tweak one or two words and the line spills out of the, say, 80 character limit. I move the last word to the next line and then the next line spills, and so on. Does anyone know a way to do this automatically in Vim?

• Asp.net profile in a separate assembly

  Hi everyone, I have a web application which uses membership and profiles. I successfully used the WebProfileBuilder extension, so my profile class is correctly generated, and is working nicely. However, after a new request of my client, I need now to move that profile management part into another assembly (so I'd be able to get profile information in a windows service running on the same machine). What I made is created the new assembly, moved my generated profile file, and tried to use it from the other assembly, but without any success. I always get a SettingsPropertyNotFoundException. My tought is that the profile system doesn't know where to find its connection information, so I tried to add the connectionstring and provider in the app.config of this assembly, but this doesn't seem to work. What am I missing ? Is it possible to do ? Thanks in advance!

  I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great.   Using TDataSet.FindKey you can locate records. When it results in True the datasets cursor will be positioned on the found record. When it results in False the cursor is not moved. This results in the record data prior to FindKey being issued being displayed in data aware components.
