• Dynamic size canvas with Scroll bars

  Hi, I am developing a simple WPF application without any auto layout. The goal is when a user clicks (mouse down) a element (say textBlock) will appear at the location of the mouse click. For this I am using canvas panel embedded in a Grid of 1 row, 1 column and scrollviewer (visible). The issues are: 1. when the application window is resized the scroll viewers do not become active. 2. I want the ability to auto grow the canvas with mouse drag. Something like in MS-Excel when user drags the mouse horizontally/vertically the canvas should grow. I have searched net a lot to figure this out and am unable to get an answer. Any help in this regard would be great. Thanks a bunch in advance. -P

• Trying to verify understanding of foreign keys SQL Server

  So I'm working on just a learning project to expose myself to doing some things I do not get to do at work. I'm just making a simple bug and case tracking app (I know there are a million this is just to work with some tools I don't get to). So I was designing my database and realized I've never actually used Foreign Keys before in any of my projects, I've used them before but never actually setting up a column as a FK. So I've designed my database as follows, which I think is close to correct (at least for the initial layout). However When I try to add the FK's to the linking Tables I get an error saying, "The tables present in the relationship must have the same number of columns". I'm doing this by in SQLSMS by going to the Keys 'folder' and adding a FK. Is there something that I am doing wrong here, I don't understand why the tables would have to have the same number of columns for me to add a FK relationship between the tables?

Cannot sort a row of size 8130, which is greater than the allowable maximum of 8094 I checked and didn't find any solution. The only way is to truncate (substring())the "tblJobAnnouncement.JobClassDesc" in the query which has column size of around 8000. Do we have any work around so that i need not truncate the values. Or Can this query be optimised? Any setting in SQL Server 2000?

  So i have flexgrid in my vb6 project I'm working on. It has names on each row, and I have a drop down so the user can select what name they want to see more info for, here is what I have. • Are these tables too big for SQL Server or Oracle

  Hey all, I'm not much of a database guru so I would like some advice. Background We have 4 tables that are currently stored in Sybase IQ. We don't currently have any choice over this, we're basically stuck with what someone else decided for us. Sybase IQ is a column-oriented database that is perfect for a data warehouse. Unfortunately, my project needs to do a lot of transactional updating (we're more of an operational database) so I'm looking for more mainstream alternatives. Question Given these tables' dimensions, would anyone consider SQL Server or Oracle to be a viable alternative? Table 1 : 172 columns * 32 million rows Table 2 : 453 columns * 7 million rows Table 3 : 112 columns * 13 million rows Table 4 : 147 columns * 2.5 million rows Given the size of data what are the things I should be concerned about in terms of database choice, server configuration, memory, platform, etc.?

• How do I set ORDER BY params using prepated PDO statement?

  I'm having problems using params in the ORDER BY section of my SQL. It doesn't issue any warnings, but prints out nothing. $order = 'columnName'; $direction = 'ASC'; $stmt = $db->prepare("SELECT field from table WHERE column = :my_param ORDER BY :order :direction"); $stmt->bindParam(':my_param', $is_live, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':order', $order, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':direction', $direction, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->execute(); The :my_param works, but not :order or :direction. Is it not being internally escaped correctly? Am I stuck inserting it directly in the SQL? Like so: $order = 'columnName'; $direction = 'ASC'; $stmt = $db->prepare("SELECT * from table WHERE is_live = :is_live ORDER BY $order $direction"); Is there a PDO::PARAM_COLUMN_NAME constant or some equivalent?   Hi, I have edited my form web part to look like this. I am a newbie to moss. As i understand, form web part allows only 1 column to be mapped to my list at a time. I need to configure to it have multiple columns mapped to my list view. Do I need to change any javascript function or use sharepoint designer. I have spent a week trying to accomplish this. • Python.expat can't parse XML file with bad symbols. How to go around?

  I'm trying to parse an XML file with expat, and here's the line where I get bad token exception: <tag k="name" v="???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????" /> xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: not well-formed (invalid token): line 610127, column 37 The symbols in hex look like: \xd1? Seems like someone wrote this string (Russian alfabet) hitting backspace a few times. I set parser.returns_unicode = True, but this didn't help. The 1st line is <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>. I work with a bz2 file. (bz2.BZ2File) How can I parse the file?

• Left Join 3 Tables and Show True or False on Empty Cells

  Ok, this may be confusing so I hope I explain it correctly. I have 4 tables: business photos video category I want to display "featured" businesses on the home page (or elsewhere) and I want to show a Yes or No in the table row based upon whether or not there are photos or videos for that business. Example: Joes Crab Shack has no videos or photos but is featured. So, when his row is echoed out it will show the Business Name and Business Owner but there will be no data in the photo or video cells thus in the video and photos column it will say No. Otherwise, if the opposite was true, it would say Yes.   I'd like to know why most Banks or Financial companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their core systems (the absolutely minimum features that a Bank must support). I found a few answers that didn't satisfy me. For example: Oracle has more features. But features for what? Can't you implement that in application level if you were not using Oracle? Could someone please describe a bit more technical but still on high-level overview of what the bank needs and how Oracle would solve it and the others can't or don't have the features yet? I came from the web-app (web 2.0) crowd who normally hear news about MySQL, PostgreSQL or even key-value/column-oriented storage solution. • Manually inserting varbinary data into SQL Server

  Hi, We have a SQL Server table for user settings. Originally the settings were domain objects which had been serialized as XML into the table but we recently begun serializing them as binary. However, as part of our deployment process we statically pre-populate the table with predefined settings for our users. Originally, this was as simple as copying the XML from a customized database and pasting it into an INSERT statement that was ran after the database was built. However, since we've moved to storing the settings as binary data we can't get this to work. How can we extract binary data from a varbinary column in SQL Server and paste it into a static INSERT script? We only want to use SQL for this, we don't want to use any utilities.   I am using SQL Server 2008. I have a Student table in which there are following fields: 1. StudentId, 2. StudentName, 3. Marks . I want to get a resultset in which there should be a column named “Position”. Something like “Select StudentId,StudentName,Marks, as Position from Student...” so that, depending on the marks a student scored, i can evaluate them as the 1st, 2nd or 20th position.   I have several TextField columns on my UserProfile object which contain JSON objects. I've also defined a setter/getter property for each column which encapsulates the logic for serializing and deserializing the JSON into python datastructures. The nature of this data ensures that it will be accessed many times by view and template logic within a single Request. To save on deserialization costs, I would like to memoize the python datastructures on read, invalidating on direct write to the property or save signal from the model object. Where/How do I store the memo? I'm nervous about using instance variables, as I don't understand the magic behind how any particular UserProfile is instantiated by a query. Is __init__ safe to use, or do I need to check the existence of the memo attribute via hasattr() at each read?   Hello Hoping that using something like this demo it is possible to drag items within and between two columns, and update their order either live or with a "save" button to MySQL. Point being that you can make changes and return to the page later to view or update your ordering. http://pilotmade.com/draggable2.html Doing it for just one column is fine, but when I try to pass the order of both columns, the issue seems to be passing multiple serialized arrays with jQuery to a PHP/MySQL update script.   How can I export a query result from a .sql database into a .csv file? I tried with SELECT * FROM players INTO OUTFILE 'players.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' LINES TERMINATED BY ';';` and my .csv file is something like: p1,1,2,3 p2,1,4,5 But they are not in saparated columns, all are in 1 column. I tried to create a .csv file by myself just to try WEKA, something like: p1 1 2 3 p2 1 4 5 But WEKA recognizes p1 1 2 3 as a single attribute. So: how can I export correctly a table from a sql db to a csv file? And how can I use it with WEKA?

  I am trying to list all of the columns from whichever Adventureworks table I choose. What T-sQL statement or stored proc can I execute to see this list of all columns? I want to use my C# web app to input one input parameter = table_name and then get a list of all the column_names as output. Right now I am trying to execute the sp_columns stored proc which works, but I can't get just the one column with select and exec combined. Does anybody know how to do this?

  Hello everybody I am in a crucial project and I am trying to speed up the development phase by using codesmith for generating the business class DAL and info class for the tables of my project. There are about 50 tables with relationships parent child many to many and for retrieving data I have to code several inner joins in stored procedures. I have to combine fields from many tables and this makes working with the info class difficult. Is there anyway to generate info class from stored procedures or to be more exact is there a way to parse the result set of the stored procedure and to generate the info class with properties for every column in that result set. • vim command to restructure/force text to 80 columns

  I know there are ways to automatically set the width of text in vim using set textwidth (like http://stackoverflow.com/questions/235439/vim-80-column-layout-concerns). What I am looking for is something similar to = (the indent line command) but to wrap to 80. The use case is sometimes you edit text with textwidth and after joining lines or deleting/adding text it comes out poorly wrapped. Ideally, this command would completely reorganize the lines I select and chop off long lines while adding to short ones. An example: long line is long! short After running the command (assuming the wrap was 13 cols): long line is long! short If this isn't possible with a true vim command, perhaps there is a command-line program which does this that I can pipe the input to?

• Sql server table can be queried but not updated

  i have a table which was always updatable before, but then suddenly i can no longer update the any of the columns in the table. i can still query the whole table and the results come back very fast, but the moment i try to update a column in the table, the update query simply stalls and does nothing. i tried using select req_transactionUOW from master..syslockinfo where req_spid = -2 to see if some orphaned transaction was locking the table, but it returns no results. i can't seems to find signs of my table being locked, but simply cannot update it. any clues as to how to fix the table or whatever state it is in?

• Why would you want a case sensitive database?

  What are some reasons for choosing a case sensitive collation over a case insensitive one? I can see perhaps a modest performance gain for the DB engine in doing string comparisons. Is that it? If your data is set to all lower or uppercase then case sensitive could be reasonable but it's a disaster if you store mixed case data and then try to query it. You have then apply a lower() function on the column so that it'll match the corresponding lower case string literal. This prevents index usage in every dbms. So wondering why anyone would use such an option.
