    I mounted a disk image using a few different FUSE modules and then subsequently renamed the parent directory.   • How do I correct a directory incorrectly copied into itself?

    Given the following situation... <path>/mydir1/mydir2 ...where mydir2 should have overwritten mydir1, but was instead placed inside, and both directories actually have the same filename. How is that fixed? Attempting to do mv <path>/mydir/mydir/* <path>/mydir/ or mv <path>/mydir <path>/ results in: mv: cannot move `<path>/mydir/mydir` to a subdirectory of itself, `<path>/mydir` This seems stupidly simple, but it's late here and I can't figure it out. There are seventeen such directories to fix (path differs for each, but same mydir name). This appears to be working... except there's a lot of files (and dirs) - I don't want to confirm every one! Isn't the f there supposed to prevent this? Although I've solved the problem of getting dirs/files from one place to another, I'm still curious as to what's going on with the mv stuff - is this really a deliberate feature as suggested by Warner?

    I'm hitting the 4GB limit of FAT32 on USB drives more and more often. However, being able to unplug the device without unmounting it first is a must have for me. I've noticed exFAT recently, however I couldn't find any info on whether drives formatted with exFAT can be unplugged safely without unmounting. Can they?

  • Mavericks not booting after successful installation over Lion (10.7.5)

    On my 2012 MacBook Pro (15 inch, non retina, i7, 10GB RAM) after successful installation when Mavericks tried to boot, it is freezing there with "Still waiting for root device" (Seen Using CMD + V during boot). Someone please help. My Mac is not usable anymore. Boots in safe mode but freezes in safe mode too. From safe mode reinstalled Mavericks but failed again with same error. If it can't be fixed please let me know if it can be reverted.

    My companies production dynamic web servers ( Apache + PHP 5.1x) are using the Apache expires module and there is a clause inside http.conf as follows: <FilesMatch ".+"> ExpiresActive On ExpiresDefault "A0" </FilesMatch> If I were to set inside a php script "Cache-Control" and "Expires", would it get eaten by this clause? Normally I would test this on my own but having trouble convincing the Expires module to function on my workstation and the company Admin's are down at the data-center.

  • Accessing local resources over wifi with a BES-connected Blackberry

    I'm trying to get to a local web site on my LAN at 192.168.1.10 with my Blackberry, but I'm getting a message saying the server did not respond. I know that some, if not all, internet traffic on a BES-connected blackberry goes through the BES. This is clear because I can access internal resources on my employers network via the mobile network. Is there any way for me to specify that the device should attempt to route directly over wifi before it tries to connect via the BES server at work?

After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program for Windows 7.   • Remotely from Chrome or IE page loads ~60seconds, from Firefox or IE on local machine - instantly.

    The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly.   • Letters seem to be rendered wrongly in Firefox

    So, when I'm browsing in firefox, some letters look grainy or glowing, does anyone know what might be causing this? It doesn't show on all website, only some. It almost looks like Firefox is trying to render different font colours on top of eachother and blends them in the process somehow.     I need to have at least one microphone on Windows to make Skype calls, but i have a VPS with Windows 2003 server with no audio device. I googled a lot and finally i found something called "Virtual Audio Cable", a tool to install virtual audio drivers ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html ). I tried many times but i couldn't get this driver work, so i'm asking if someone know a similar solution, i mean a virtual microphone or a way to make skype working without any microphone.   • I can't get the Samsung PC Studio to work on Vista or Windows 7

The software installs OK and the drivers, it sees the Tocco Lite when connected but will not actually connect! error message can't change mode or can't connect as "no response from the device because it is in the initializing stage.     After I upgraded from kernel 2.6.18 to 3.5.3 modeswitch started not to work for me. Although lsusb shows my usb modem, usb_modeswitch does not switch it. My system information is like below.     I have experienced this issue mainly with Excel, Word and Powerpoint 2013, where there is constant pop-up box asking for login credentials as it tries to connect to officeimg.vo.msecnd.net I have searched and found one of the solution, to prevent Office from connecting to the internet (Options Trust Center Settings Allow Office to connect to internet). This solution worked for sometime, but am back to square one again. Solutions are sought, as this is a nagging problem, I am sure others would have experienced the same.

    I'd like to broadcast audio from my Mac desktop to my Palm Pre, as the Pre is more portable and I can use it in the kitchen, or while I'm exercising, and so on. I can already capture the audio using Soundflower, but how might I create an MP3 stream out of the audio input device? For all intents and purposes, Soundflower can reduce this question down to, "How can I create an MP3 stream from the built-in microphone on my Mac?" as the answer can be applied equally well to iTunes output.

  • High I/O latency with software RAID, LUKS encrypted and LVM partitioned KVM setup

    I found out a performance problems with a Mumble server, which I described in a previous question are caused by an I/O latency problem of unknown origin. As I have no idea what is causing this and how to further debug it, I'm asking for your ideas on the topic. I'm running a Hetzner EX4S root server as KVM hypervisor. The server is running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 and KVM virtualisation is utilized through LibVirt. The server has two different 3TB hard drives as one of the hard drives was replaced after S.M.A.R.T. errors were reported. The first hard disk is a Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS (512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical sector size), the other one a Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (AF) ST3000DM001-9YN166 (512 bytes logical and physical sector size). There are two Linux software RAID1 devices. One for the unencrypted boot partition and one as container for the encrypted rest, using both hard drives. Inside the latter RAID device lies an AES encrypted LUKS container. Inside the LUKS container there is a LVM physical volume. The hypervisor's VFS is split on three logical volumes on the described LVM physical volume: one for /, one for /home and one for swap. Here is a diagram of the block device configuration stack: sda (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) sdb (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) md0 (Boot RAID) - ext4 (/boot) md1 (Data RAID) - LUKS container - LVM Physical volume - LVM volume hypervisor-root - LVM volume hypervisor-home - LVM volume hypervisor-swap - … (Virtual machine volumes) The guest systems (virtual machines) are mostly running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 too. We have one additional Ubuntu Precise instance. They get their block devices from the LVM physical volume, too. The volumes are accessed through Virtio drivers in native writethrough mode. The IO scheduler (elevator) on both the hypervisor and the guest system is set to deadline instead of the default cfs as that happened to be the most performant setup according to our bonnie++ test series. The I/O latency problem is experienced not only inside the guest systems but is also affecting services running on the hypervisor system itself. The setup seems complex, but I'm sure that not the basic structure causes the latency problems, as my previous server ran four years with almost the same basic setup, without any of the performance problems. On the old setup the following things were different: Debian Lenny was the OS for both hypervisor and almost all guests Xen software virtualisation (therefore no Virtio, also) no LibVirt management Different hard drives, each 1.5TB in size (one of them was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS, the other one I can't tell anymore) We had no IPv6 connectivity Neither in the hypervisor nor in guests we had noticable I/O latency problems According the the datasheets, the current hard drives and the one of the old machine have an average latency of 4.12ms.
